Compass App vs Baseplate Compass - which is better?

I was asked recently, what I think about compass apps for smartphones, so I tried one to find out. I asked myself 3 questions:

Compass pro for iPhone does declination for you. Very accurate.

Keep it simple, silly! If you're in a shadeless desert at high noon and using the phone charger is not an option, you'd be in a real pickle trying to shade the stupid screen with one hand, etc.
