Google maps sends me to stupid places and stupid situations. Today i drove on a road that was not even on maps... it was a grey area ( in a busy place!) and it was the right way and not how they sent me.
I like Waze I’ve been using it for year. I also use google as well. I like them both. If I have to pick one it would be Waze it’s more interactive with the other drivers and you can report more than on Google and you can communicate with them as well. I find it helpful.
Ive used both, for cameras and obstructions waze is amazing but for routes you cant beat Google maps, waze takes you on too many side roads while Google gives you a straight forward route, you can change routes in real time and it has the best traffic information.
I can see immediatelly that google maps shows gas stations, shops and other businesses along the way....waze seems to miss that, like it won't show me if there is a gas station ahead, no? I do like speed camera stuff, even if inaccurate, still will make one slow down! 😂😂
Google maps shows you steps with pictures of each location you pass but Waze doesn't. Google map gives you the opportunity to input your location and your destination but Waze only allows your destination. Etc
I had enough of apple and google map for not being accurate. No google, i dont wanna use more oil than necessary coz of your map that does not know where shortest to drive.
How can one program either app to vocally announce the upcoming street, road or highway, not simply say "turn left", but rather to say "turn left in a quarter of a mile on Main street". ?
Both Google Maps and Waze announce street names in English. If they are not mentioning street names, you should check the settings: 1. Check the voice navigation language and voice (set them to default to test them out) 2. Ensure the internet connection is stable (both won't say the street names if the connection is poor) 3. Check if both apps support street names in your country.
Google, Waze, and even Apple Maps are all great. Personally, I use Waze when I have CarPlay available because of the crowd reporting for things like objects in the road and stalls/crashes. Then, I go Apple Maps when I don’t have CarPlay for the Apple Watch turn-by-turn navigation.
Waze is better for commuting, especially if you have a lot of speed camera or police because it reports you where they are and because it always shows the speed limit even when you haven't set a destination (unlike Google maps). But at the same time it has a worse UI and sometimes it leads me to some narrow and uncomfortable roads... Waze also tells me how much will I pay in tolls when I set a destination, Google maps doesn't. Voice controls work better on Google maps and in my car the button on the steering wheel will only work with Google Maps and not with Waze
Thanks for sharing this info. I didn't know about the Toll price feature as we don't have Tolls here in SA, Australia. Yes, Waze is better in terms of safety, but it's not the best in navigation.
Google maps is great but it has some issues. The map itself runs smooth as silk but once you start navigation, it cuts the framerate in half and removes smooth scrolling, the compass doesn't work much of the time if you are stationary, I have to open a separate compass app to get my bearing, which is odd because there is a compass right on the damn map, also, settings all disappear when you start navigating, layers ect gone. You can still get to settings (the layers setting isn't in those settings) by swiping up but its just weird to have the entire app functions to change just because you started the route. Also, you can set and share a pin on the map, but once you are navigating, you cannot. So bizarre they have not fixed these seemingly intentional issues
Never mention important thing i.e flyover.. Google maps suffers a lot. Many times no proper arrow shows . Not sure how wage handles. Few apps solves this by junction view.
My experience was that Google would suggest unpaved roads if they were the quicker rout and not let you choose an alternate route. Waze had an option to avoid unpaved roads.
I like Waze best. Because of verry fast updates. Every user is allowed to work active on map updates by setting a command for main roads or you can work yourself in the map, if it is a small road! Same to the speedlimits or new created roads!
Both are amazing! I love navigation so its always cool to see different ones. I sometimes play around with Waze and change it to kilometers lol I'm from the United States so we don't use kilometers but it's so cool seeing the numbers all mixed up for example the speed limit in highways near me is 89 km/h the numbers don't match up you would probably see a speed limit of 90 km/h but not 89 lol. The numbers don't make sense if you put it to kilometers in a place that uses miles and vice versa.
While I appreciate that you published this comparison, you did leave out one of the MOST IMPORTANT things to consider between using both apps, and that is how harshly they tax your system. It's vital for those who have head units with a limited amount of memory, graphics strength or processor strength. Too many times Google Maps runs very slowly on some of my previous head units. So knowing if Sygic, Waze or Google Maps runs more efficiently, is a vital decision maker when deciding which one to use. Please include this metric in future comparisons, or edit these last few vids and add it in. Thanks.
Thank you. I appreciate your concern. There is no doubt that both apps are slow. Sygic is faster because it downloads the city and country maps. Google Maps has so much that it slows it down. Waze needs constant internet; hence, it is slow. I will include this metric in future videos, as I can't edit the existing videos.
Did you check your settings for how the routes are structured? Last year that kept happening to me for about a week. Kept redirecting me, and telling me to get off the freeway then back on ( which I didn't do ). Turns out, I accidentally changed the settings for the route set ups, like fuel-efficient, staying away from major highways, and roads.
Reason for edit: I typed this on a phone which had a lot of typos, but decided to edit it on my PC. Well on eight different phones waze has given me ridiculously wrong instructions. It will tell me to turn on a street that doesn't exist on my side of town. When I'm leaving my house to go to the other side of town it'll tell me to do a u-turn. There's one point where I could just go across the street to get to the other side, but NO, waze wants me to make a left turn, then go right, get back on the main road I was about to cross, then go to the traffic light, and turn left to get to the other side. I can't tell you how many times it has sent me to subdivisions where there's no exit. Again this has happened on eight different phones over the years, though Google owned waze, it converted to an independent app in 2022. My roommate has an Apple phone and she runs in some of these issues as well, so it's not an Android issue. Also lacking in ways is picking an alternate route when you pass a turn it wants you to make. It will keep telling me to turn around for several miles. Waze is garbage in my experience.
