I have Hippies on DVD and I think it's really quite good. Pegg does some funny "comedey of awkward" in it and Darren Boyd is great in it too. I think it suffered because it followed Father Ted. Had it been standalone, I don't think it would have failed. There was a lot of talent in the cast and some of the writing is really strong.
I liked Hippies. I think it failed because a lot of the humour didn’t work if you didn’t know anything about the (counter) culture that was being sent up.
Strange to find a Mathews/Linehan show that I'd never heard of in Hippies, usually their stuff was gold, Father Ted, Black Books, IT Crowd, Big Train...
Fair play to Graham Linehan. To have a second series commissioned but say 'No, f- it, the public don't like it, so let's do something else' is commendable I think.
I remember hippies quite clearly and discussing it with a guy at work the next day after an episode...we used to discuss comedy all day to get through the drudgery of factory work, Alan Partridge being about 95% of what we spoke about

Hate to tell you, but you missed the biggest offender from the early 90s - BSkyB’s “comedy” Heil Honey I’m Home, with Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun in a sitcom. There’s clips on UA-cam and it’s just as bad as your worst imaginations. It got cancelled very quickly.
I enjoyed Get Back, it was inspired by The Beatles song of the same name. Dark Ages was OK, but didn't reach the same heights as Blackadder and Chelmsford 123. Grace & Favour looked outdated in the 90s, so it's even worse now.

The only one I remember was Artists, that was the show where we found out Alexi Sayle was an uncool one trick pony with no real talent. I do vaguely remember a couple of others existing but I never watched any of those at all, well maybe an episode of hippies but I don't remember so it clearly wasn't the most impactful show ever.
Not only do I not remember most of these, I've never heard of most of them. I do vaguely remember Grace & Favour and I quite liked Law & Disorder. If there was one phrase that used to make my heart sink during the 80s and 90s it was "A new bitter-sweet comedy from Carla Lane" One 90's sitcom you did miss, and one I absolutely hated was "My Dead Dad" which, I think was shown on Chanel 4.
Lee is a talented bloke, but I judge comedians by the quality of their material, not the quantity of their sweat. If he got someone better to write his material, he could be amazing.

She was absolutely amazing on Taskmaster, one of the best contestants ever.
