I often revive with my sword out for a better view & quicker timing when dealing with potential interruptions. I usually have passive guard on & sometimes sword block (w/ enduring guard selected usually) & maybe even have 1 melee resistance mod on too!
As someone who has only been playing for a little over a month, this is a god roll video. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the info you presented. I had no idea how much I still didn't know about the game. Thank you. I'm trying to be better and this will help a lot.
The final tip has been the biggest game changer for my team. Started using double Aeons for Heavy to slash times for longer runs like Hallowed lair, or farms like your LoS strat. My team finds the preparation the tips lay out as part of the fun at this point. Great accumulated knowledge in this guide.
as they say at my job.. what does this look like? & why does it work this way? & what happens when we do this versus this? Excellent vid!!! Enjoy your vacation!!!
More on resist mods! Using two different resist mods can give you more damage resistance than using two of the same mod. As stated in the video, two of the same mods stack up to a 40% DR. But let's say, for example, that you are fighting against an arc sniper combatant: using two sniper resists or two arc resists makes you take 40% less damage but using both the arc elemental resist and the sniper resist TOGETHER gives you a damage resistance closer to 43%. This can be super useful for activities where a specific enemy type keeps killing you so you can stack both an elemental resist mod and a different resist mod for just a tiny bit of added survivability.
Just returned, I played at release and stopped shortly after. There are so many layers to this game now. Optimization is a hell of a rabbit hole now. After a week of playing the ftp portion of the game, this video has opened my eyes to entire systems I wasn’t aware of.
Never heard of the 40/60 rule, gonna have to give that a try because sometimes I just seem to struggle clearing enemies and I just don’t know why. I do notice sometimes I just seem to get surrounded and burnt down really quick. I will have to pay attention to this more. (Positioning) Thank you, great video, gave me a lot to think about. You earned a new sub…
Thanks for the video. Lots of good advice. One small editing suggestion. In Item #1, I think you meant gaming "cues", not queues. The first is an indicator, the second is a line for something (like being in a matchmaking queue).
I started playing the Destiny franchise in D2... never played D1. I was supposed to play with a bunch of friends, and they all bailed and quit the game. Clear and concise, and straight forward and to the point... this is by far the best video I've seen when it comes to great tips all in one place. You just got a new subscriber. Thanks for the time man! Excellent!
One time I had the pleasure of gaming with this famous UA-camr - I haven't washed my shorts SINCE. MAN IS SO CRACKED, I WISH HE'D SIGN MY STEAM PROFILE
W video. Very good beginner tips, especially the ones on different buffs/debuffs and enemy types. I meet tons of people who don't know Champions aren't bosses and are always surprised when I tell them to not use boss spec for them.
Excellent video! The 40/60 rule/positioning is incredibly useful and I think is essential for players to be successful with end game content. It’s become second nature and sometimes I forget to mention it to newer players when playing something like a GM. Thanks for this and I will definitely be sharing this to friends. Have a great vacation!
How did I miss this video for so long? Even as a guardian with a handful of seals and 1.65M kills in the game, it's always good to review the basics and remember "power creep" is sometimes just knowing more about the game. Like Above does :) Thanks for another great video.
Very helpful. I started playing D2 about 18 months ago and still pretty new considering the content offered. Im always trying to figure out how to improve playing but found I always fall back on what weapons and armor I’m comfortable with. I’m trying to go outside that comfort zone to improve my skills.
This vid was great, there are always pvp guides but very few guides on how to get good at pve. I have one thing I would like to add that hopefully someone learning will read If you watch pros playing the game at a high level, in speedruns, gms, or day 1 raids, you can see that they are always in action, and never stop. Like the heavy conservation tip says, if enemies are dead, they can't kill you. If you are on low health, before you leave to regen, try to get as much damage in as possible. Double special loadouts help you learn this, because you can't abandon to your primary. Learning your weapons in and out and being agressive with them is one of the best ways to play destiny.
Thank you so much! And YES, I agree! Your mind should always be working. If there aren't ads to kill, look for ammo. If you're full on ammo, ask your teammates how their ammo is. Focus on positioning, etc.
Tip for Taken Spec mod (I'm assuming it works here because it works in tandem with exotics that deal more damage to taken, anyone who has done the testing can correct me on this): If you run witherhoard and have a weapon with taken spec on it, damage translates as if the enemies in the pool are taken.
I’ve been playing since a little before the taken King in D1, on and off, and I had no idea about these mods or how they worked. I felt like such a noob but I’m glad I saw this. I’m sure My gameplay will feel so much better now.
The only thing u need to get better at PvE in destiny 2 is to subscribed to Above with notifications turned on. That's how I got better at PvE an GM in general.
The 40/60 rule is funny to me. Its what I always used since destiny 1. I named it coward style lmao. When my teammates would be dying 3 or 4 times during a tough fight, I was usually the one alive to revive them and shout out COWARD STYLE BABY lol. Another thing I did when I did die, I would cycle through my teammates screens and look at different angles to see what the enemies were doing and their positioning. From there I would decide kill orders, where to be and where not to be.
Thanks for the tip on peaking in high difficulty content like nightfalls! I'm usually pretty good about utilizing cover, but it looks like I can polish some more & be even better!
Good points here and one of the reasons I love Destiny and Destiny 2 over most of the other games. I can work PvE and if I screw up it is my fault vs. a group of random people I’m relying to do everything perfect. In RAIDs or Dungeons I play with clan or LFG with mic required so I can talk with people that I’m relying on. Good tips for all.
really appreciate this vid, i was confused at ‘queues’ as i was thinking do you mean being polite and waiting your turn for an activity lol, had a bit of a moment hah, it’s spelt ‘cues’ if that can be changed. the advice is very helpful so thanks
I preordered D2 for 100$ and was heavily invested only to quit, from warmind until about now. I played here and there but I didn’t really focus on specs that much. Thanks
Great video as usual! I'm guilty of heavy/super fear :D (though my last week on Lake of Shadows, I spent more Heavy than anywhere else in the game that isn't Dares thanks to Gjally). Only a small nitpick, I think at the beginning it should be "cues" instead of "queues" (but you still got the point across very well, so it's more of a nitpick than anything else).
I've found this video and others you've created to be very helpful as I try to figure out the best way to approach this highly addictive game. Thank you!
New light here and the only thing I can say is wow your video was very useful but i still believe bungee can do a better job of introducing the idea of all of these mechanic to the player earlier on. I'm not opposed to learning things but last time I checked swimmers don't learn to swim in a tank full of sharks. An introduction to the idea of mechanics early in the game would be amazing.
One more advice from me: Read and Learn. There is so much info provided in the game already if you take your time to read it. Learn weapon perks. While it is not so crucial as "Nyet Rifle is fine it shoot boolet" rule generally works, there are some perks that either make or break the gun and singlehandedly can make gun suitable for hard content or almost completely useless. Roll weapons with perks that you feel you will need in said content you play. take your time and finesse the build, invest in stats. Give your character some love because it pays off "tremendy".
About the "same button for two things" setting - this will only get picked up if you store keybinds on the computer and not in your account, I believe. Destiny 2 seems to ignore reads from cvars otherwise. At least in my experience. Also, instead of contorting your hands trying to hit air move with a keyboard... pick up an Azeron and get many more buttons in comfortable locations. :)
I played the Destiny 2 campaign when the game first launched, but came back after buying the Legacy Collection. It was not a good experience. As soon as I booted up the game and selected my character, light level 962, I was thrown into one of those events you mentioned in the video. I was so weak because everything required light level 1100 or more. I had to use one of the premade characters.
Concussive dampener and elemental resists stack also. You can use concussive dampener and arc for 40% against boomers and also use the concussive for 25% against void and solar grenade enemies or 40% for arc grenades for example. This is a much more valuable stack tip in my opinion since you cover more enemy types of damages.
This is a wonderfully helpful video for a PVE player like me especially as a new light. I learned some new stuff and I thank you for it especially the 40-60 video. You just got a new subscriber. Thank you so much. I didn't know much of these stuff especially the mods. I have a lot to learn in Destiny 2.
It's an enormous game with lots of stuff in it for sure. I've been playing for years and still have a lot to learn. Which makes it fun, and for me a good investment in entertainment :)
On point number 2 - not blaming the game? I've had solo GM's where champions straight up teleport. The point is very valid but the game is far from perfect, sometimes you are just unlucky.

Surely you mean "Cues" as in a cue to do something on stage and in game, as opposed to "queue" which means lining up to wait for your turn.
Glad I’m not the only one to notice this.
Yep my bad!
Omg thank you for saying something it was driving me crazy!
Pool cues, I think she's talking about?
Thank you for caring enough to point these things out.
Tip: you can move and shoot while reviving, just stay close to the ghost so you don’t lose the circle.
I often revive with my sword out for a better view & quicker timing when dealing with potential interruptions. I usually have passive guard on & sometimes sword block (w/ enduring guard selected usually) & maybe even have 1 melee resistance mod on too!
Great tip!
You can melee enemies while reviving too.
My bind for interact is the same as ads. It can be super annoying in raids but also allows you to shoot while reviving.
Also, you can begin to move away once the revive hits 75%.

About the "same button for two things" setting - this will only get picked up if you store keybinds on the computer and not in your account, I believe. Another tip- vorpal weapon takes time to proc. Take your time on the first shots to max out your dps. I think ads’ing on the enemy procs it.
