I think Godrick ist very well aware, that his Knights only serve him because of his bloodline. He doesnt trust them and thats probably why theyre not allowed in the castle. He hired these Exiled Soldiers, gave them a new home AMD cool Windpowers and thats why theyre loyal. Same case with the banished Knights.
That’s fair, although the carian/cuckoo knights and the Leyndell knights don’t have a bad gig. The Godrick Knights definitely are the safest geographically. Where it gets rough is the Cleanrot knights, Gelmir knights, Redmane knights and the Haligtree Knights. Redmanes and Cleanrots live in Caelid and the Gelmir knights live obviously near Mt Gelmir which has all manner of lava wyrms, rune bears, Demi humans, cannibals and other such horrors. The Caelid enemies I didn’t specify because do I really need to? The Haligtree Knights just have it bad because they serve Miquella who disappeared to their knowledge then turn to serve Malenia who is slowing losing it while they all collectively live in a fortress set in a tree that is being corrupted by scarlet rot. While alot of the other residents turn into insects. The Cuckoo knights live in West Liurnia broadly whereas the Carian knights live in the Carian Manor and Acedemy Specifically. Liurnia is generally not dangerous as long as you avoid the swamp/marsh area surrounding the academy. The problem for the Carian knights is that they are loyal to Ranni and Rennala specifically and the rest of the Carian academy and their territories in Liurnia turned against them. So most of the Carian Knights died out after Ranni stole a fragment of destined death and after radagon had left Rennala and yet stayed loyal to Ranni and Rennala. The Cuckoo soldiers and Knights wiped them out because they serve the Acedemy and therefore the sorcerers and not the royals. Leyndell Knights on the other hand I shouldn’t have to explain anything really as they live in the most secure location in the lands between and sit directly under the erdtree which is the base of their religion while also having access to the best gear available to the knights alive at the time. The only threat they ever face is the character you play.
@@ICECAPPEDSKYthe Leyndell knight obviously has the better condition almost safe like limgrave They all have better equipment which was maintained properly, their in vicinity of the erdtree itself which making them feel like they have more blessings and not to mention has better security with tree sentinel, gargoyle and avatar and they have Morgot who the most rational lord than anyone else as he actually did his duty as the last king to properly lead leyndel Basically joining the Leyndell army is by far the best option That is until we the tarnished kill Morgot, burn the erdtree from the fire giant forge, take the power rune of death from Maliketh and kill There first elden lord Godfrey as well as Radagon,Marika and elden beast and become the 3rd Elden lord Or we just straight up burn everything with the power of frenzy flame
The Soldier of Godrick must have been sent to away from the castle to ensure he never saw the weakness of his master. Else he might have made his own attempt at claiming the Great Rune, and Godrick could never have withstanded him. also I just love all the artwork for these, this one really gives the right "clinically depressed" vibes
most of the souls games give off these vibes mixed with some existential dread, he does a good job of capturing the feeling of these games in how he speaks
It actually makes me think about it... what is in the Cave of Knowledge and Stranded Graveyard next to it? Soldiers of Godrick, Exiled soldiers and knights, Grafted Scions... Was Godrick using that area as a makeshift prison???
I like to think… maybe he is a maniac or something of the sort. Maybe shellshock has made him that way, as to why he uses a Bleed infused weapon. Given that there is a BlackFlame prayerpook in Stormveil, a putrid tree spirit, and a Crucible Knight in the lowest part, I wouldn’t be surprised if they know about the Formless mother and a knight uses one of their techniques. I won’t say much else, because this random knight IS a mystery lore wise, although Fort Haight itself is a bit strange
@@HoseB932 Is he though? I mean, Lord Kenneth speaks of him as being obsessed with blood, and the fort was originally his. He might be a deserter, or loyal, and just took the fort as an excuse to wage war on the demi-humans, as we find the people in the fort doing before our arrival on Kenneth Haigh's behalf.
I'm going to start a new playthrough with the Godrick's knights sword and armor to become elden lord, these guys were hard done by and deserve something more
One thing to note is how the placement of his knights is an analogy for grafting. He plucks away the knights who belong to the castle, replacing them with knights from another place, quite litterally sawing off his own knights, grafting the banished knights on.
I love the fact that you cover subjects others might consider not too important, but I’m absolutely enthralled by the lore of the different knights, warriors, and lordships
@@square-table-gaming or maybe the Exiled soldiers, Kaiden Sellswords, Alabaster Lords, Fallen Hawks, Duelists, Pumpkinheads, Haligtree Knights, the ties between shadows/wolf-like guardians of lords from Bloodhound Knights to Blaidd and Maliketh? Idk how much can be said about each of these or what all you guys covered cuz I haven’t watched all of your lore vids just yet but I’m just shooting quick stuff while at work
Gotta say, despite all their problems Godricks forces are the most lively army in the Lands between, every other force is seemingly just the local army unchanged since the shattering-wars, or the haligtree who are just a bunch of overleveld sadbois waiting for their senpai to save them. arguably godricks ability to compromise and "innovate" makes him the only Lord with any growth-potential, but sadly he has not enough of those "god-genes" to win.
Godrick could've been an imposing demigod if he had any divinity left. Unfortunately being a mostly baseline human saddled with the expectations of the Golden Lineage made Godrick quite mad
The godrick knights would've made for an excellent story about regaining their honor. The knight forces in this game have always been one of my favorite parts of this game, they always had some of the most interesting lore in the game
Agreed. The knights in all the factions are very interesting. The knights I found most interesting are the Gelmir Knights. I always wondered what happened to them. The ghost Gelmir knight that gives you the Serpent Hunter has some interesting implications. Did they leave due to Rykards blasphemy or were they eaten by Rykard himself?
@@enterusername6953 they were probably eaten, as they were serving Rykard BECAUSE of his blasphemy not despite it. They too rejected the rule of the Erdtree and only rebelled when Rykard let himself be devoured. IIRC spirit says something about how great Rykard was before that. He was at least respected as a lord, even Ranni believed he could defeat Maliketh with help of blasphemous claw.
@@DragonZombie2000 Don't need to have dialogue to be interesting, people wouldn't have a fascination with the lore of Dark Souls/etc if all it took was the scraps of dialogue we get, item descriptions, environmental story telling and other stuff is what helps elevate this stuff to catch people's attention.
What might further add to their shame is when you kill Goderick himself. Although likely relieved, the knights might also think to themselves "we couldn't even defend our lord. What right do we have to serve any other?" Broken and lordless, I imagine morale would be pretty low. Their only redemption is likely through Nepheli. Under her rulership, Nepheli's knights can prosper again. And if she really is the daughter of Godfrey, then serving under her lineage would bring honor back to their ranks. Hope for them isn't lost. Now, if Nepheli is killed, made into a puppet, or is simply never allow to rise as lord to Limgrave, their outlook might not be so rosy then.
Wondering when Nepheli becomes the Ruler of Limgrave, all former Godrick Soldiers are friendly to you unless attacked, would be a nice detail. Could make a interaction from Nepheli asking you why you attacked her men
I think Godrick must’ve treated them like shit as well, so they’re going to be at least somewhat relieved when they are freed of Godrick’s rule and embraces a new leadership afterwards
At long last. I have been waiting for someone to make a lore on the Godrick faction for so long. The hype is real! His whole army is grafted when you think about it. Exiled, banished, his own army, and kaiden sellswords.
At least they can feel better knowing that beings beyond their universe view them as the most iconic "generic" knights of the game, if only because they're the base versions
I think they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Godrick fears them I think. Before the grafting probably even Boc could've beaten him easily... but Godrick never shed his fear. Hence only mercs who don't know his weakness are defending the castle.
Im doing a RP run of Elden Ring as a Knight of Godrick who, after realizing that Nepheli is no mere warrior, rebels against Godrick to bring the Golden Lineage back to its former glory and once again enter Leyndell.
You’ll be happy to know in the Japanese community they discovered in the first cutscene you hear the rings stomps and cries of the walking mausoleums. This implies your of the golden lineage too.
I don't know, Man, Radahn's boys have it pretty bad, too. Constantly having to barely beat back a never-ending horde of rot-mutated Barghests and Terror Birds? Knowing they can never return to their true home, out of fear of bringing the Scarlet Rot back with them? All for a guy who's slowly rotting away, going crazier and crazier, and cannibalizing his own men, due to himself being infected by the very rot they've been trying to stave off? At least Godrick's knights get to just chill out from time to time.
I sorta formulated an interesting theory as to the purpose and motivation for the Godrick Soldiers and Knights based on the available information and state of affairs at the start of the game. Given that they're not allowed within Stormveil, it can be assumed that Godrick doesn't particularly trust or think too highly of his army, preferring instead to be defended by Exiles and Banished Knights. At most, the soldiers still guard the approach to the front gates of the castle, but as far as we know, the entirety of his army could very well have been out of communication with their lord for years, cut off or barred from receiving any orders, with the only potential comings and goings in Stormveil being new prisoners like Roderika and her group brought in to be grafted. In the absence of any orders from their sovereign, Godrick's army has essentially been left to their own devices down south, completely abandoned and possibly even forgotten about by the very man whose symbol they wear. I imagine that, bereft of any other purpose, and with a delusional lord content to barricade himself into a castle beyond their reach, the Godrick Knights took it upon themselves to impose some semblance of order onto the chaotic mess that is Limgrave (and the Weeping Peninsula, to a lesser extent), patrolling its roads and keeping the demi-humans in check. Who knows, we can reasonably expect that, after Godrick's slaying at the hands of the Tarnished, Stormveil was reopened, since some new occupants arrive there in the meantime, and, with their apathetic lord now dead, the remnants of Godrick's army might decide to swear allegiance to their new lord, Nepheli Loux, Warrior, and her minister the great Kenneth Haight, and actually have a sense of purpose again.
This is an excellent theory. The whole theme of the game is "ambition" which links back to the alchemy idea of "Magnus Opus" or the great work. And alchemy inspiring much of the game's look and story telling. Each character represents different aspects of that ambition: Worthless ambition (Godrick), ambition at the cost of pride and honor (Malenia), dangerous ambition (Ranni), ambition devoid of morals (Rykard), the ambition of loyalty (Morgott), and those are just the ones I can think of. But even minor characters have ambitions, some noble and others not. What you've done is shown what are the Godrick soldier's ambition.
It could be they only patrol, or even somewhat serve their "lord", due to a sense of honor. Would explain why they seem to try and keep raiding demi-humans in-check. A better question is why they haven't bailed completely: Unlike the Cuckoo knights, they don't get any real perks, and unlike the Redmane knights, they don't have an ongoing duty. Considering the Gelmir knights *did* bail once Rykard started exploring his vore kink, it's fascinating that the Godrick knights remain loyal, to their symbol at the least.
@@Umbra_Ursus Eh. Limgrave is far from a bad place to be. Sure, you have the occasional dragon, but asides from that, it's a beautiful and relatively safe place to be.. as far as the Lands Between is concerned. I imagine Godrick's army upholds Limgrave purely out of respect and loyalty to the land and people itself, not really to Godrick.
@@WretchedRedoran Pursuit of knowledge, maybe? That would overlap pretty heavily with Gideon, but Goldmask goes about it without using the same evils and manipulative tactics that Gideon does.
What I’m curious about is Edgars death dialogue, for he says “Please forgive me, Lord Godrick”. For a man who seemed to have been hated by most of limgrave/stormveil. To put in this dialogue is a bit strange no? Is it the fact that Godrick sent his knights to try and repel the rebellion? Is it because Godrick was good to Edgar?
It's entirely possible Edgar knows nothing about what Godrick is today. Godrick stationed him in a place of power over that castle so he would probably see him as benevolent for that. We don't know how long it's been since Edgar has heard word from stormvale. Also, no matter what his opinion of Godrick might be, he is a knight and his duty was to protect that weapon so if he dies he is losing his honor.
In the original japanese text (this was somewhat lost in translation), Godrick actually seems to be quite fond of his soldiers - his death text, which in english is "I am the lord of all that is golden, and one day we'll return, together, to our home, bathed in rays of gold", in the japanese original the 'we' is his soldiers, essentially. It's entirely possible he never recognized just how far he'd fallen - the grafted scions are likely his children, made 'stronger', through a grotesque process. He seems to think grafting the dragon is appropriate to do to a trueborn heir, as well
@@bajscast That's a good point! I did always find it interesting that Godrick said "we will return together," very plainly going beyond just restoring himself to Leyndell. Perhaps he could just be talking about his Grafted Scions, but it may also include ALL of his forces. The Banished, Exiled and standard soldiers of his army. That would give them a pretty good reason to follow Godrick, too; if you were a Banished Knight like Edgar was, it could be possible that Godrick was your best chance at returning to the Erdtree.
@jooot_6850 Yep, it adds a good layer to an insane and evil character in my opinion, that he believed he was doing what was right not just for himself (though obviously it would be him on the throne!) but his lordsworn as well. It is also possible that some of the banished knights come from commander niall. Godrick has wind powers and his leg has been replaced with a banished Knight or commander armour leg, the same that commander niall is missing. It says in the descriptions that niall traded his leg for the lives of his soldiers, but in castle sol the soldiers are only ghosts. So, I believe godrick may have got his wind powers from that leg, and spared the knights but employed them in his ranks
In Marika's own words. The Erdtree governs all. The choice is thine. Become one with the Order. Or divest thyself of it. To wallow at the fringes; a powerless upstart.
Alternative take: The Banished Knights are holding Godrick hostage on behalf of Malenia since we know some work for Niall. The Godrick Knights are defending their lord as closely as they can.
Wow.. now that you've mentioned it, yeah.. there are indeed NO Godrick soldiers or knights in the castle itself. Looking back at it, it's so obvious now.
Godrick is my favorite demigod just for how grounded and human he seems. He has clear motivations and a palpable hunger for power, even if he is considered craven or cowardly. Clearly he also bestows grafting on some of his followers as is seen with the scions, it’s a shame we don’t see any grafted knights around.
grafted knights would have given Limgrave a much more unique feel, I agree. And seeing as he is willing to share his power with his scions, it's not too far-fetched that his most loyal knights could get an extra arm or two
Godrick: "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries !" Malenia: * jumps over the castle walls or some other anime sh#t * Godrick: "I shouldn't have said that. I should NOT have said that..."
Stormveil castle could've been a immense power in limgrave, and superstructure with a powerful army, but the army was ahnihilated at leyndell making the castle almost empty, and so the exiles filled the place of the soldier who once held that post
Godrick’s knights work so hard just to get dunked on, they cooked me lol, and they fight like the rest, especially that godrick knight in the first ruin we find as well as the blood knight
I think you might be being a bit overly mean to Godrick. Sure, he's far from the strongest Demigod. But on the other hand, he's still alive. He survived the Night of Black Knives and the Shattering, and he wasn't taken out by Vyke. Of the Golden Lineage, only he and Godefroy can can claim that distinction, and Godefroy was defeated, imprisoned, and left Runeless. His very survival is an impressive feat.
The Night Of The Black Knives was to kill Godwyn so that fell flat right off the bat. Everything else was either nepotism or cowardice so no, not really impressive
@@IHNMAIMS123 Is there any info as to him starting the battle? I used to think he was inside the city during the siege, which is why he was able to grab the mimic veil and hide among the women
Godricks approach was not bad at all. He went with his forces to a place which is easy to defend and used the time to gain strenght. They were definetely in a better position than Radahns men.
Do they even know what they want? Im sorry its a 1 yr old comment but i just dont get how immortality works in the game. I understand that everything went downhill after the shattering and everyone became living corpses but like the nobles seem to have gone completely insane, do the soldiers retain some kind of sentience?
@@sultankebab1587 how is this comment a year old?! It does NOT feel like a year, I still kinda-sorta remember what I was doing that specific day! Well, anyways, all these guys have died at one point or another, but the cycle of death and rebirth is broken. They can no longer be renewed, this, they shamble about, unable to move on from wherever they've been. Sure, maybe their awareness is stunted, but their sense of duty remains, that's why they yet remain, forever trapped in this state of exile, bound by duty, longing for it to end; to go to the Erdtree; to at least die and be reborn home.
While it was a banished knight whom Nepheli killed in that castle room, I think it sums up the faction very well what she said to him. "Be proud. You were a fine warrior. Your only mistake was your choice of master." It is sad how loyal all of them are to a man who never deserved to have anyone's loyalty, and who little respect they got in return. I hope the survivors reorganized themselves under a better person, like Nepheli.

@@square-table-gaming made my day seeing this! Thank you guys so much for the inspiration! I absolutely will :) it’s funny too because I watch them as well haha
I felt that the Soldiers/Knights of Godrick not being deployed inside Stormveil itself was due to two different reasons: A: Godrick was more interested in Grafting himself to gain power so he was sending as many of his men out as possible to seek out new Tarnished victims for the Grafting procedure. B: He just doesn't have enough manpower to cover the whole of Limgrave/Weeping Peninsula and Stormveil. It's a sizeable portion of land, but with the soldier sbeing formed from what was left of the army that fled the capital, chances are it's just a fraction of what Godrick left with initially, the rest being captured or killed during their escape. But I supposed the shame of them being allied with the weakest demigod of them all and a known coward is a pretty bitter pill to swallow. And Godrick's disgusting nature keeps them away too: so the only people Godrick can find to man the castle itself are exiles and banished knights, with literally nowhere else to go.
I went from feeling bad about killing those guys to wanting to kill every single Godrick knight I see just to end their misery. Also getting killed by the future elden lord is a way better fate than serving * deep breath* Godrick Baddragonforhanddaddyissues the golden.
I’d honestly say that I agree the Cleanrots were probably the strongest most of the time especially numbers wise but I would also say that the Carian Knights specifically are probably on par with them or on another level of powerful in comparison depending on your interpretation. As the Carian Knight sword says “These knights' swords could serve as catalysts, letting them wield sorcerous battle skills. Despite numbering fewer than twenty, this power made them a match for even the champions of gold in battle”. So depending on how you interpret that that could mean cleanrot knights or something more akin to the Tree sentinels or Crucible knights who are champions and defenders of the golden order. I personally interpreted this quote as something more akin to the Tree sentinels specifically because it states champions of gold which is referencing the golden order specifically to me. Whereas if it was referencing the knights of Malenia it would’ve specified. Also there were fewer than twenty Carian knights and those numbers would more match the number of Tree Sentinels than the Redmane and Cleanrot knights who were rivals and were in large enough numbers alongside the regular soldiers to be considered entire armies. Also the Carian knights shield as a last note was stated to be built to protect against Holy and Magic damage specifically while asking in the quote, just who were these knights preparing to fight?
I have been playing souls since 2018, with demons souls for the ps3, dark souls 3 and finally elden ring. I have to say the the soldier of godrick killed me 145 tmes, it was one of the best experiences I ever had as a gamer. Not even Gael comes close to the difficulty of this battle, the soldier of godrick has to be one the most memorable bosses in the souls saga.
I think the slave company of the inverted hawk had it even worse, malnourished, sealed inside the dark city, forced to use the bones of their friends for light.
man if you think about it godrick story is kinda sad like he probably was very sad about godwyn death and godfrey exile like he saw all of his lineage downfall and despite him not having direct god heritage he still tried to fight along the all mighty demigods if he was more humble and didnt resort to grafting he probably helped my kenneth of hell maybe even morgott i hope we see a young happier version of godrick in the dlc maybe he wasnt a asshole in the past
So I think the reason why the Banished Knights and Exiled Soldiers occupy Stormveil is because they were part of the mercenaries that were serving under Commander O’Neil when Malenia overtook the castle. It would make sense this was part of the deal, Godrick got to keep his life, his rune, and Stormveil in exchange for becoming a vassal of Miquella. His soldiers would be then used to keep control of Limgrave. He of course would claim to be lord of all that was golden in your fight through pride, he would only admit subservience in the presence of Miquella or Malenia
Great video as usual. Did some digging and it seems that in the official adventure guide the entry for Stormgate references the knights there as Capital Knights, so it seems to confirm that
i would like to say that the orange gold on their shields is very similar to the gold of the crucible knights and they may have been the layndel Knights before the full rise of the golden order
@@Issengan Yeah I know lol, I didn't really pay attention to the timestamp on this video. Just opened UA-cam, saw it at the top of my feed and hit play.
Honestly, i love your lore dives on all the enemies and even the knights and bosses of Elden Ring, and i hope the DLC will expand thia even further. But i do have 3 enemies I would love to see a lore dive on: Dragon Lord Placidusax, Dragon Lord Fortisax, and the Virgin Maidens of Mt Ghelmire.
I'd also like to note that Godrick's behavior as a scavenger isn't just limited to Grafting either. -You can see the his Knights and Soldiers all around, forcing peasants to pillage and scavenge ruins for what I can only assume to be either mining ores or collecting relics & artifacts. -He's probably the one who send the Fallen Hawks into the underground cities, likely to find something from the Nox that could increase his power. Stormveil itself has a lot of stuff that's clearly pillaged from other places in the Lands Between, including Nomads' Cookbooks and even seals and prayerbooks from the _Godskin Apostles._ He's also got mindless Living Jars stored in a corner, Marika knows why, never mind the Godwyn's replica corpse & Deathrood beneath the castle. -The fact that his castle is manned by Exiled & Banished Knights, as well as the Kaiden Riders. He's willing to stoop as low as recruiting people who are probably criminals and traitors, never mind hiring mercenaries. -The fact he's willing to use Trolls and Omen, both races that despised by the Golden Order. -The fact he sought to kill and graft a Dragon, a being that the Golden Order started to consider sacred at one point, not to mention one that's afflicted with Scarlet Rot. Godrick has put himself in such a pathetic state that he's willing to get any power or asset he can, even from things he would otherwise should consider heretical and vile.
@@wolfsoldner9029 _HUZZAH! A man of quality!_ The difference is that, from what I read on Zsinj, he wasn't an absolute screw-up like Godrick. Zsinj was actually quite cunning and devious ruling over a large territory, and was probably someone Admiral Thrawn might even respect. Definitely not like Godrick in any way. I'd compare Godrick to the Sith Lords from the New Sith Wars, like Darth Rivan or the Calimondra Family. He's basically an insane petty magic warlord trying to hold on to crumbling power by whatever means possible, including scavenging whatever power or weapon he can find from his predecessors and engaging in foul rituals and tactics with no long-term benefit.
My favorite part with the soldier of godrick fight was when the cave ceiling gave way and he began piloting the AC6 helicopter, all while summoning the orphan of kos as an ally while gwyn’s theme played. 10/10 fight hope for a buff in the future
Great video as always! These lore videos on the factions & knights are such an underrated topic within the community. Have you guys looked into the Carian Knights? It’s said their power made them a match even for the champions of gold in battle
If their first lord was godwyn then I’d imagine their inability to save their lord probably took a massive toll on them mentally cuz they feel they failed the one thing they swore to do
I didn't die to soldier of godrick or the actual Godrick but Soldier of Godrick did take me aback since I just came from both Dark souls 2 and Demon's PS3. Elden Ring runs on Bloodborne rules so I needed to adapt.
The knights are pitiable, having been reduced to a sad bunch forced to defend a demigod so weak he needed to build himself a flesh evangelion just to even stand a sliver of a chance against his siblings. It’s not their fault they were reduced to such poor knights, yet they must bear the burden their excuse of a king put on them.
I was trying to get the God Rick's boots and losing hope that I'd complete the armor set. While I farmed the Gatefront spear guy for the millionth time, watching your video, I got them. Win! TY!
My great grandmother was of Spain and carried the names Contreras of Leon(Lion) Spain and Alamilla(tree). This was the only armor I would wear from the beginning of my journey due to random drop with the golden slender sword, and continue wearing it with pride
Actually if you don’t mind the shame and dishonor, being a knight of Godrick seems like a decently sweet deal. You’ll get staioned over a relatively peacefull land with only main threats being small tribes of demihumans and occasional Tarnished. And even if you can’t stand Godrick, since he isolates himself in Stormveil, you don’t get to be around him very often.
Personally I'd argue the knights of Gelmir had it just a bit worse... seeing as they went extinct and a few (maybe even the last) threw themselves at Rykhard in an attempt to kill him. While I'm sure more than a few of Godrick's boys would love to take a stab at him, they never quite got to open revolt.
This makes me happy to have put Nepheli on the throne. Hopefully her honor will give them a master truly worth serving. We know that Godrick is decedant from Godfrey, but with which son? The only candidate is really Godwyn. The Tarnished Archelogist theorized that Godwyn was set to wed Ranni the Witch, an Empyrean and carry on his mother's bloodline. So, am I saying Godrick is also a decadent of... Ranni? Uhhhh... No. Godrick is obsessed with his Golden Lineage, not a Carian one. It's more likely that Goldie Boy Godwyn had a few concubines and mistresses. (I even have my suspicions who they were. A clue being that they're tall, scary looking, sometimes invisible, and carry these scary looking knives imbued with death...) Doesn't mean he's a bad guy. He seemed to love the prodigy twins despite their affliction and they seemed to have loved him back. But it's pretty easy to see how easy it was for Ranni to choose Godwyn to take on the other half destined death. (I'm seriously thinking marrying her is probably not your best idea...) It also means there's a double whammy against Godrick. Not only is he weak because of his character, he's many generations removed from Marika, AND he's a from a bastard bloodline to boot. Speaking of the twin prodigies, it's pretty easy to see how easily Godrick could have rubbed Malenia the wrong way. It could have been anything from referring her to the moniker "the Severed" (a title only used in game once in reference to Malenia and it was meant as an insult). He could have referenced how she was deformed (which is how he refers to her as in his cut dialogue). He could have refused her supplies and shelter while on her march to Caelid, citing something about her scarlet rot and "impure blood." But it could have also been callously comparing himself to her beloved half brother to a point where Malenia felt she needed to prove a point.
@@kaiserdetectivegolden2735 A ghost in shaded castle calls her "that severed harpy." I found out since that there is a talisman that refers to Malenia as "the Severed" and seemingly in a positive way.

How in the hell a coward like Godrick is a descendent of a LEGEND like Godfrey is beyond me, as for the soldiers they were already doomed from the moment the fell in the hands of that useless demigod Nice video as always mate 👌
God-Rick an disgrace soldier that once served under a coward that claims to be a descendent of Godfrey but there are rumor saying that god-rick is possibly a descendent of an old powerful dragon that once ruled the skies above but some have their doubts on these claims.🐱
God i love this video, you realy gave those soldiers a personality and such bitter backstory but i dont think they had the short end of the stick if you look at rykards men or even the ones who are still in caelid ^^
I think of it this way, the knights in Caelid chose to fight the rot, the gelmir knights chose to fight what Rykard became, Godricks knights lost a battle and have to live with the shame of their lord being a coward as well as essentially being exiled from Stormveil. At the very least, the redmanes and gelmir knights maintain their sense of valor.
Despite the godrick soldiers and knights not being permitted access to Stormveil I would say it is a Mercy, I mean Godwyn’s affliction appears to heavily affect the castle and even the exiles - not sure if it affects the banished knights as i have yet to check them properly - to the point it is growing out of both sources though I am uncertain as to how it came to be if the depths are under the Capital. On a side note I would say that if the Godrick soldiers and knights were stronger they would definitely be a force to be recognised, I mention this as: 1. The Godrick soldiers spirit ashes are surprisingly good being capable of killing misbegotten from the Capital when they work together (at +9-10 of course but even at the start I say they are better than many other ashes you can aquire) 2. I was testing spirit ashes against the storm gate camp and well they bullied summons such as Finley - until they finally threw up some rot to kill the majority - and even the avionets and those guys benefited from being hit as it turns them into a moving blender. (It was only reg NG but they would most likely do even better against more ashes, perhaps I will test this with my first character or not)
I feel so bad for them. I feel like they are no longer human at all. They just move, as if they were stuck in the past, but they no longer know what they were fighting for.
I’d still say the gelmir knights had the shortest stick when it came to lords all being slaughtered to a man when they rebelled against rykards blasphemy
And also why he craves physical power. He’s probably extremely paranoid about being overthrown if he wasn’t as powerful.
Any theories why the exile soldiers have thorns but our tarnished wearing their armor doesn't?
@@minespatch deathblight? Isn't that what's behind all the thorns in the castle to begin with?
@@minespatch It's corruption from Godwyn's satellite corpse in the castle basement. The thorns mar the castle as well.
@@CsStrez Thanks for the explanation. I've only seen them at Stormveil castle so far, so I assume exile soldiers only work there.
Hah, i'm laughing just imagining godrick using the mimic veil and just running with the fleeing crowd as an armor rack 😂😂😂
Lore says he escaped with the women of the capital
The Knights of Godrick get to live in Limgrave, that alone is reason enough to stay loyal to Godrick when compared to where other armies have to live.
@@ICECAPPEDSKYthe Leyndell knight obviously has the better condition almost safe like limgrave
They all have better equipment which was maintained properly, their in vicinity of the erdtree itself which making them feel like they have more blessings and not to mention has better security with tree sentinel, gargoyle and avatar and they have Morgot who the most rational lord than anyone else as he actually did his duty as the last king to properly lead leyndel
Basically joining the Leyndell army is by far the best option
That is until we the tarnished kill Morgot, burn the erdtree from the fire giant forge, take the power rune of death from Maliketh and kill There first elden lord Godfrey as well as Radagon,Marika and elden beast and become the 3rd Elden lord

You forgot to mention the Godrick Knight at Fort Haight. Perhaps he chose to serve a different master; the Formless Mother
He's definitely an anomaly
One thing to note is how the placement of his knights is an analogy for grafting. He plucks away the knights who belong to the castle, replacing them with knights from another place, quite litterally sawing off his own knights, grafting the banished knights on.

@@enterusername6953 Most likely they we're all eaten, either when Rykard first transformed or when they tried to kill him.
They have no dialogue, there's nothing interesting about them
@@DragonZombie2000 Don't need to have dialogue to be interesting, people wouldn't have a fascination with the lore of Dark Souls/etc if all it took was the scraps of dialogue we get, item descriptions, environmental story telling and other stuff is what helps elevate this stuff to catch people's attention.
I really hope they let Nepheli have this happy ending, her and the knights deserve it
@@zenebean thankfully all the good quest endings for npcs are canon
Wondering when Nepheli becomes the Ruler of Limgrave, all former Godrick Soldiers are friendly to you unless attacked, would be a nice detail. Could make a interaction from Nepheli asking you why you attacked her men
I think Godrick must’ve treated them like shit as well, so they’re going to be at least somewhat relieved when they are freed of Godrick’s rule and embraces a new leadership afterwards
they will enjoy being reunited under the frenzied flame no more differences just fire
At long last. I have been waiting for someone to make a lore on the Godrick faction for so long. The hype is real!
His whole army is grafted when you think about it. Exiled, banished, his own army, and kaiden sellswords.
banished and exile have similar roots, they both use storm-related skills.

@@miimiibeschde4818Jerren is such a chad. Same with Radahn.
@@TheRisky9 What ambition do you think Goldmask entails?
The Godrick Knights are defending their lord as closely as they can.
but the banished knights have hurt their forces enough to remind them to stay well away from stormveil's walls
I'm on a "Godrick Knight" playthrough and God the gilded greatshield + partisan combo is absolutely amazing
...And one day, we'll return together... To our home, bathed in rays of gold...
Wow.. now that you've mentioned it, yeah.. there are indeed NO Godrick soldiers or knights in the castle itself.
And seeing as he is willing to share his power with his scions, it's not too far-fetched that his most loyal knights could get an extra arm or two
This one hit different man. Our Limgrave homies down bad frfr.
Godrick: "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries !"
Malenia: * jumps over the castle walls or some other anime sh#t *
Godrick: "I shouldn't have said that.
I remember when I defeated my first spear Godrick Knight, armed with only a stick and these knives I found.

Your only mistake was your choice of master."
It is sad how loyal all of them are to a man who never deserved to have anyone's loyalty, and who little respect they got in return. I hope the survivors reorganized themselves under a better person, like Nepheli.

From the very proud and mighty to these knights. Amazing the amount of variation we get in this game.
The face i make when bro asks the bbt (big booty tarnished) if she got roblox on her phone: 1:30
I felt that the Soldiers/Knights of Godrick not being deployed inside Stormveil itself was due to two different reasons:
A: Godrick was more interested in Grafting himself to gain power so he was sending as many of his men out as possible to seek out new Tarnished victims for the Grafting procedure.
I dunno if we can call them disgraced when they share the image of Rick, but okay.
Damn it, the joke got yoinked. GGs.
I went from feeling bad about killing those guys to wanting to kill every single Godrick knight I see just to end their misery. Also getting killed by the future elden lord is a way better fate than serving * deep breath* Godrick Baddragonforhanddaddyissues the golden.
Poor soliders of godrick man. Actually strong peapole held back by the pile of dung that is Godrick.
The Godrick Knights are with the Banished and Carian my most favorites
Never heard of this channel but once I heard "we covered all the other knights" I'm ready to binge whatever you got
I think the slave company of the inverted hawk had it even worse, malnourished, sealed inside the dark city, forced to use the bones of their friends for light.
Most definitely but we're talking in the context of different knight factions
There needs to be an HBO series on the adventures of Rick and the Knights of God.
Almost to 30k! Youre doing the Outer Gods work, Square Table McGee
man if you think about it godrick story is kinda sad like he probably was very sad about godwyn death and godfrey exile like he saw all of his lineage downfall and despite him not having direct god heritage he still tried to fight along the all mighty demigods if he was more humble and didnt resort to grafting he probably helped my kenneth of hell maybe even morgott i hope we see a young happier version of godrick in the dlc maybe he wasnt a asshole in the past
Godrick probably should've stuck by Morgott. I wonder why he betrayed the alliance and rebelled..? Greed, maybe.

He reminds me of Warlord Zsinj from Star Wars Legends. Who strenghtened his few imperials forces with pirates and mercenaries.

The difference is that, from what I read on Zsinj, he wasn't an absolute screw-up like Godrick.

Soldier of God, Rick is going to be my next character to rp as
The knights are pitiable, having been reduced to a sad bunch forced to defend a demigod so weak he needed to build himself a flesh evangelion just to even stand a sliver of a chance against his siblings. It’s not their fault they were reduced to such poor knights, yet they must bear the burden their excuse of a king put on them.
The knights of all time!
I’d say the gelmir knights had a worse lot, getting eaten and all
Dw some ran away
The ad with the intense elden ring music and your monotone voice got me laughing ngl
I love the thumbnail so much, he looks like me after 12 hour gaming session
I was trying to get the God Rick's boots and losing hope that I'd complete the armor set. While I farmed the Gatefront spear guy for the millionth time, watching your video, I got them. Win! TY!
Great video as usual, Table.
While I'm sure more than a few of Godrick's boys would love to take a stab at him, they never quite got to open revolt.
oh yea! get some! Soldier of God, Rick is commin' for U!!!
(I'm seriously thinking marrying her is probably not your best idea...)
It also means there's a double whammy against Godrick.
He could have refused her supplies and shelter while on her march to Caelid, citing something about her scarlet rot and "impure blood." But it could have also been callously comparing himself to her beloved half brother to a point where Malenia felt she needed to prove a point.
who used this "the Severed" line ?
@@kaiserdetectivegolden2735 A ghost in shaded castle calls her "that severed harpy." I found out since that there is a talisman that refers to Malenia as "the Severed" and seemingly in a positive way.
As a tarnished who's nickname happens to be Rick, I appreciate the shoutout STG! 🙏
Fight on soldier of god
So many details I never noticed. Dead interesting!
So after we defeat Godrick… does that mean they now serve Nepheli?
That would make sense if she's truly a descendant of Godfrey. Although, she doesn't have the blood of a demigod so maybe not
@@square-table-gaming the Godrick knights: so you're the blood of Godfrey, but not a demigod?
Nepheli: And you're knights that served the realm and an honorable master?
Knights: ... throne room is that way
@@zenebean Godfrey is a demigod
"if your current computer chair is feeling a little less than comfy..." *looks at cushion on the ground... Hmmm...
Great breakdown as always! Love the videos.
That doom chair tho...
Rumors have it that Rick, Soldier of God, became the new master of the Godrick soldiers after we, the tarnished killed Godrick.
How in the hell a coward like Godrick is a descendent of a LEGEND like Godfrey is beyond me, as for the soldiers they were already doomed from the moment the fell in the hands of that useless demigod
Nice video as always mate 👌
4:15 such a fabulous woman indeed
What a cover picture, makes me feel something
lmao even the lore video was like "ya Godrick is really unimportant here as well"
Godrick really is the ultimate failson of The Lands Between huh
Enjoyed the video thank you for making a fine quality video to watch for us all to enjoy i'm definetly subbed now.
Rick, soldier of God.
God-Rick an disgrace soldier that once served under a coward that claims to be a descendent of Godfrey but there are rumor saying that god-rick is possibly a descendent of an old powerful dragon that once ruled the skies above but some have their doubts on these claims.🐱
Godrick is shounen protagonist who never started his training.
On a side note I would say that if the Godrick soldiers and knights were stronger they would definitely be a force to be recognised, I mention this as:
1. The Godrick soldiers spirit ashes are surprisingly good being capable of killing misbegotten from the Capital when they work together (at +9-10 of course but even at the start I say they are better than many other ashes you can aquire)
Hmm the art for this reminds me of the one shot from All's Quiet on the Western Front. Very nice
Come and see
I’d still say the gelmir knights had the shortest stick when it came to lords all being slaughtered to a man when they rebelled against rykards blasphemy
Still got to maintain their honor at the very least, but I can see that mindset
Rick, soldier of god
The thumb nail looks like the Danny Devito meme 😂.
