Why no silicone on the inside of the shower? If you only do it on the outside, the water can get into the cracks and space between the shower glass/wall and the wall or floor of the shower along with dirt and debris and start mould? Isn't it better to stop the water from getting out of the shower at all? I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I'm just curious, here in Sweden we seem to always have silicone on the inside, as far I've seen it at least.
The theory is that the shower base slopes towards the drain, by sealing on the outside any water will accumulate and drain out, whereas if you seal on the inside any area of seal failure will allow water in and it cannot get out.
Norman hit the nail on the head here. All the manufacturers recommend just doing the outside. There's more chance of trapping water and mould growth, especially if the silicone starts to fail as it doesn't last forever 😅
@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT @normanboyes4983 Aaah.. of course! I didn't think of that.. then Swedes are dumb 😂😋 Of course there are pros and cons, but I didn't even think about the slope, that is a given. Thanks all of you!
Any moisture that gets in either the side tracks or underneath the glass will get trapped instead of being able to drain into the tray. It'll end up going mouldy as a result with either black mould or pink mould
If you need to get rid of silicone, grab adhesive or anything like that, try multisolve from ct1. It removes stuff even where you can get in as it is a spray. Another use for this application is to spray it after above the surface of the bead you've done to give it that smooth, shinny sleak bead you've done. Banging product. (Ps, I am liking that vid so i am in that 30% you spoke of) 😊
Good sound advice. I feel a song coming on: 'You've got to know when to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away And know when to run' PS I even clicked the thumbs up icon three times....that's my 30% done! 👍
@@micksmith8839 yeah I know, I had a quick look too but as I read it on camera I trust myself...I think😆 I'm sure they have this one in Wickes so you could always just go and pick it up off the shelf and check
Thanks, for the first time I've managed to do some siliconing properly. A couple of things to add. I didn't have your first tool, so I cut an old credit card at the corners in a similar fashion to your tool, and it worked great. First job was with white silicone, and it looks fab (even the wife thinks so 😛 ). Second job was with clear silicone on glass shower wall - it was more tricky, as I couldn't actually see properly how it was going on, so I ended up with too much, and when I tried to remove the excess, it smeared a bit on the glass. Managed to tidy up ok with the side of the credit card, but any tips?
I'm not sure what tool you mean 😆 the removal tools or the smoothing tool? It sounds like you've done pretty well though and it sounds like you already know where you could improve and that's just not putting down too much silicone initially. It's hard to judge though, especially if you only do it once in a blue moon
The electric gun still works but I'm missing a little bit which means some of the silicone comes out the back side 😩 plus not everyone has an electric one so I wanted to show how anyone can do this little job 😉
Learning to know when to call it quits to save f*cking up even more is a #1 top tip. Something I've learnt a lot this year, and you're the only one who's going to know it's not a 'perfect' job anyway. Good how to video anyway, but get back to the house 😜
Tip: I use WD40 to get rid of the residual mastic after scraping off as much as I can. It melts the silicon and leaves a clean surface. However you need to clean off the WD40 off with white spirits or similar because the new silicon will not seal to the WD40 surface.
I could live with those “imperfections”. I’d need a magnifying glass to see them. I’ve had really good results with the soapy spray method when siliconing. Better by a good margin than tape or raw tooling. I’m interested in your view(s) on the downside. Also, not giving a thumbs up to a video one has chosen to watch to near the end is just fkn rude. You don’t have to agree a point to appreciate an effort made.
Great video, cheers for the tips mate!

Great video mate, good tips to save us making ourselves look even less competent.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Why cant we use fairy liquid? It allows the silicone to nicely get into tiny gaps from my experience unless im missing the point.

I would say think there are pro and cons to both, so best to go with your instinct!

@@Oli_Hudson Yes of course, instinct is much better than following the design intent.

Thanks for the tutorial, been meaning to do this for ages! Question: why don't you also put silicone on the inside?

Hi, how do you silicone the pivot section?
You don't, there should be a door seal fitted to the bottom to direct water back into the tray

Ah I didn't know there was a spray version, that sounds useful!
Good sound advice.

interested to know why fairy is so bad, seems to have worked for me!
I'll do a video at some point 😉
Thank you so very much!!!
Hi. Great video, thanks.....Which Dow silicone did you use? All the ones I saw say it's medium / high modulus.
dow 785+ sanitary sealant clear
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT thanks, it's not clear in any of the sites I checked what the modulus levels are.

I hate doing silicon or painter's caulk. like you warned, I dick around with it too much. What happened to your electric Ryobi?
The electric gun still works but I'm missing a little bit which means some of the silicone comes out the back side 😩 plus not everyone has an electric one so I wanted to show how anyone can do this little job 😉
What did you use to clean off the old sealant? Kinda mumbled there. Sounded like you said Maps??
I said meths, that's methylated spirit
Not only a "like", but a "comment" as well from me. Excellent video!
Much appreciated!
Ah man, I literally have this exact same video recorded, half edited, and about to be published 😂😂😂 maybe I'll delay it for a few weeks!!! Good job 👌
Haha that'll be an interesting watch! Are you aiming for another 10/10 😂

Good how to video anyway, but get back to the house 😜
I've ended up having to redo a whole bath once 🤦
The house isn't going anywhere 😅
Liked and subscribed 👍😊
Why do you not seal inside the shower? Mould?
It can trap water under or inside the frame where it can't drain away, that will eventually cause mould 🙈

Don't use white spirit as that to leaves a residue...methylated spirit is better
Nice video. I'm planning a video using silicone and washing up liquid.😂 But for a different purpose.
Oh no not washing up liquid! 🫣 I suppose it's only ok if you're doing some kind of casting 😉
I fancy this guy, he is so handsome. Love your videos. xx
Thanking you ☺️
What do you mean don't go over it again and fuck it up? That's the most inportant part! That's at least to 2 tube job and a double swear! :)
😂🤣 We've all done it
Pukka Job.😀👍
Thanks dude
My other half, she did fall into this 🤔🤣
How to earn brownie points from the other half.
Leave it long enough, so when you eventually do it, it means more right? 😂
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT great strategy, just don't let on to the other1/2!
