Now we’ve gone from the Gosforth handyman to the Gosforth tidy man and now you are the Gosforth clean man. Great job Andy. Now, just pop down to South Leicestershire………🌞
I really must pay more attention, I heard bar mitzvah at least twice, and then jumped up wondering what you were doing. Some good guidance there for fitting a shower. Thanks
Thank you so much! I came for the entertainment value, but now I know why the silicone on the *inside* of my screen has gone mouldy. I had added it myself because I thought the builder had forgotten to do it... 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I live and thanks to you I learn!
Ditto... did the exact same thing and added silicone inside all along the bottom of the shower tray 😅 Guess I now need to take the frame out, remove it all, put it back and silicone it correctly on the outside
It is also a good discipline to wipe the shower dry after use especially if you live in a hard water area. By leaving the shower with water droplets on the surfaces to evaporate, the residue quickly makes marks. I will not have another tiled shower surround having opted for the coated boards last time, excellent and so easy to keep clean. Good video Andy, very clear and to the point. Thanks.
Nice job mate you and your apprentice should be proud. 👍 I use to do maintenance work in the hotels in London and had to do plenty of masticing and the old boy who use to lay the mastic down and before tooling, use to spray with a little bit of washing up liquid in a spray bottle. So you get no chance of a thin film of mastic left on the tiles on the tiles and tray. Just make clean up easier aand cleaner.
Inspirational channel I’m using a lot of your ideas and tips as I have major building work going on . keeping the site tidy is key as the builders do not although they do try 🤔.
Nice work! A glass-enclosed shower is practical if your water has a low mineral content. My well water contains iron and manganese, so my shower looked dirty from day one unless I took the time to clean if after every use. As I grew older and less steady, the door and panel got in the way of transferring myself from one grab bar to the other, so I had it all removed and I'm very happy with my shower curtain made from water repellant fabric. Many years from now (after you've installed grab bars to keep yourself upright) you may want to do the same. ;-)
Fitted similar screen same set up couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to attach the corner post together m didn’t want to drill it just siliconed it inside top to bottom and held them together with clamps overnight is solid
I know this was a year ago ,but I wanted to see how you put the side panel into the fixed bracket ,I've got a 6'x4' panel ,the bit I wanted to see you glossed straight over
Thanks for your videos Andy, always a good watch. Im fitting a frameless sliding shower screen. I notice the silcione was still wet when you fitted the u channel. If the tray has already been siliconed (and dried), coukd you recommend a silution to fit the u channel, as it wont be ablebto aitbflush against the tray?
Hi. Great channel. Do I attach the side profiles whilst the silicone around the tray is wet? Or do I wait until the silicone has dried before screwing the profiles in place? Hope that makes sense.
Those tiles are rather nice, can I ask where they're from and the name of them? We've got 3 bathroom rip-outs and re-fits coming up on our renovation project in the next few months so your timing for this video is impeccable.
Hey hoping you still see this after years ! Does it matter when the glass panel was installed the wrong way ? Aka the outside bit is inside and the inside glass is facing outwards ?
This looks like one of the Screwfix sliding enclosures? Fitted one a couple of weeks ago. Very decent product but the only downside was the fiddling trying to get the screws in as they are stainless steel (non-magnetic).
Cheers John! Ha, there's a story. No, I've had nothing but problems with grout recently. This stuff was a nightmare. Might have a vid coming up about it.
To reduce the risk of chewing up screw heads, make sure to use the correct screw driver. Pozi screwdriver for pozi screws and Phillips screwdriver for Phillips head screws (and use the correct size bit as well).
Nice job as always Andy. 👍🏻 Related but not the same do you or any viewers know of a good place to get replacement hinges for a bi fold shower screen? Really struggling to find replacements!
Really depends on the manufacturer. Some are great for spare parts, others are almost impossible to find. Sometimes generic versions fit! Roman are generally pretty good: www.romanathome.com/shower-spares-catalogue/ 👍
Excellent video. Thank you so much for putting this together. Steady away....great tip waiting for the silicon to go off before drilling the metal bars. Lovely job. I do a fair bit of siliconing and quite enjoy it. I noticed you are using the 785 Dowsil. I have tried to research which is the best 785 to use? There is the 785 or the 785 plus (+) or the 785N. I've contacted Dowsil and spoken to my fab Screwfix staff but I'm still a bit miffed at which is the best one to use for shower/bath siliconing??? If you have time it would be great to hear your thoughts? Kind regards Andrew
Bi-Fold Door Shower Enclosure, the door will not fully stay open but springs back a bit so when getting out the shower you need to hold the door to exit. Any advice or is there adjustment on the door, The problem is the gasket in between the two doors is so tight of a seal that it pushes the door apart?
This is exactly what I need for when I redo my ensuite shower cubicle, I still can't quite grasp where the silicon along the lower screen edge/top of the shower tray goes though (may not be necessary on a tray with upstands?)
@@GosforthHandyman you should of put ply pads behind the shower wall so you can get a better fixing for shower holder/screen etc etc as those plugs and screws are just into plasterboard & tile . Hey I know it works but better to make it solid . Apart from that ur a good example of howto
Hi Andy, as others have said, you make it look so easy. However, I'm surprised you didn't drill a clearance hole for the self tapping screws to ensure the extrusions come together properly. Tapping both extrusions can leave a gap, albeit rather small.
Clearance holes aren't mentioned in the instructions and I generally follow them to the letter to avoid any warranty issues 👍. It's a valid point about a gap though, normally if this happens just back out the screw and re-tighten and the gap closes up.
Ideally we'd have the 'fold' in the corner but we layed the tiles out in every conceivable way and in the end this looked best since you don't really notice the cut on the far right hand side. 👍
I don't suppose many tradesmen will be watching this video but extremely helpful to DIYers. Lot of very helpful tips here as I'm psyching myself up to remove our bath and install a walk in shower so perfect timing. Thanks and subscribed.
From a maintenance point of view, isn't a rubber hose easier to clean than a rubber hose covered in a metal coil with a hundred dirt trapping ribs? What is the obsession with EVERYTHING MUST BE CHROME, even if it's just pretending to be metal? 😁 Like the obsession with trying to completely hide every pipe, even to the extent of installing toilet cisterns inaccessably in the wall. Sometimes it doesn't seem very practical. I know from some of your other videos that you have a practical philosophy about pipe boxings and shower tray plinths Andy, so I'm not having a go here, just general observations. "Don't my chrome sockets and light switches look great?" No they ****ing don't, why would you ever want to make a feature out of your electric points? 🤣
What on earth is going on with all that grout at the top ov the tile's mate. I hope you didn't pay the tilers they should be ashamed of them selves , it's a god dam mess.

No worries! Yeah, generally no silicone on the inside but always try to check the instructions for your shower screen if possible. 👍
Same for me although the silicone? sealing on the inside was done by the builder or previous owner. (most likely the former which is a worry!)

Great video as always. The care you take is fantastic. I would not have thought about putting a bead of silicone in the corner.

@@GosforthHandyman Hi mate, great video- well presented. Why do you put the bead of silicone in the grouted corner?
perfect timing as we are currently in b&q looking at shower enclosures
Good luck with yours!

Defo Bob! Or a full wet room! We have quite hard water here but use a water repellent spray on the glass and it keeps the limescale at bay. 👍

Might be Victoria plumbing
I’ve seen similar at Wickes but it was a couple of years ago.
Can we talk more about the isolation valves in the skirting? Good idea. How do you hide the holes?
Cheers. At the moment there's a little bathroom bin in front of them 😁 - but I'm on the lookout for some nice 20mm caps that can easily be removed. 👍
