      Well, not saying it’s a good thing that the repair shops cutting corners but since the insurance companies introduced “gestuurd schadeherstel” ( commanded damage repair) here many years ago in the Netherlands, I’ve seen my share of glued back together headlights brackets and many other things that should be replaced and where probably being charged as new. So they could get a bit more profit out of it because the insurance companies squeezed almost all out of it.

      Also probably other driver's assists as well didn't work properly, such as emergency braking.
      This type of car shape is hard do park reverse with mirrors alone because you can't judge distance when there's trunk behind the glass (it seems that you already touched it when you have about 0,5-1meter still to go.

I can backup a loaded tractor trailer on my hook, without assistance. That’s what years of driving does. It gives you skills to perform easy and complex tasks. Your turn now, my love. Interesting problem and nice diag & fix. Cool to see the fixed parking assist in action :)
    I guess the price of original parts creates market for cheap and sometimes bad alternatives, but sometimes dealerships have cheaper alternatives too, equal to original but a bit cheaper.
    For example Kia, at least here in Finland, offers "2nd line" parts for older, out of warranty vehicles. This monday my car (2016 Kia Rio) was in engine oil change service (smaller shop, not Kia dealer), and I bought the oil filter indeed as a 2nd line part from dealership. Looks exactly like original Kia filter, but no Kia badges anywhere even in the cardboard box.
    Even before, cabin air filter was also 2nd line part, installed in bigger service at Kia dealer. This time I replaced the cabin air filter myself, and bought Mann Filter part from car parts store.

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  Місяць тому +2

      The price of the original sensor was expensive for sure and that makes that people will try to find alternatives.

They want to play with all the toys in the car and play on their phones instead of paying attention like they used to in the 60s and 70s and part of the 80s before all the new toys came out in the cars, these are my thoughts my thoughts only thank you Dan

    Top video weer zoals altijd. Zou je aub een keer een filmpje willen maken over short circuit, short to ground, short to power…hoe meet een computer en hoe weet de computer dat er een short is. Op die manier kan je veel beter interpreteren wat de foutcode aangeeft. Bedankt!

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  Місяць тому +1

      I denk dat ik dat al wel eens behandeld heb. Als je goed naar het symbool in het draadschema kijkt van de voeding in deze video dan zie je in de computer een weerstand getekend. Als de voedings draad aan massa ligt dan is er 12V voor deze weerstand en geen spanning meer na deze weerstand. Dit heet spanningsval. Door intern deze spanningsval te meten weet de regeleenheid dat er sluiting is. De weerstand beschermd de regeleenheid ook tegen doorbranden bij sluiting

    Oh hey, welcome to my world! I have the unmitigated joy of dealing with this kind of thing all the time, and it is very annoying.
    I'm shocked to hear the sensors come pre-painted, though! I can't say I've ever seen that. Lucky!
    With 6-sensor systems like this, often times the outer corner sensors will be a different part number from the inner four sensors, and the two are not interchangeable. I run into this a lot on GM trucks and SUVs, body shops just yarfing all the sensors back in wherever and then it takes down the entire park sensing system. :(

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  Місяць тому +2

      That is correct the inner 4 are Pdc sensors and the outer sensors are Pma sensors. When you swap them on this Bmw you'll get a faultcode that tells you the wrong partnumber is installed. This is because on this Bmw the sensors communicate through Lin-bus and they send an identifier to the control unit. If by accident you swap them you'll find out because of the faultcode.
      The pre-painting of these sensors makes sense. The ensure good operation they need a certain thickness of paint. It's safer for Bmw to keep this under control in house.

    I had this kind of issue on multiple brands, not only on BMW. Also on Mercedes. Even genuine parking sensors can fail over time and cause short circuit. On some BMW-s(E65,E60) this kind of short can damage the PDC module. A small transistor fails due that. It can be replaced, but before reinstalling the module, short circuit needs to be eliminated.

    ! While it may seem simple to some to find where a short to ground is situated or why it occurs, having a method to apply is key.
    I guess the other shop will have to do some explaining to an unhappy client. I mean if I was that customer I would certainly not agree to pay for the park assist module the car didn't need. Not to speak of the fact they installed a sensor made of chinesium, which caused much trouble and delay. As a customer I would expect a commercial rebate for the delay and not paying the brand new but unnecessary module.

    it is something a good electrical mechanic will ask you for is a paper trail of all work carried out, and when you noticed the problem, it will then reduce their time a lot. hense why I always put recipts in with the service manual, that way I know exactly where the paperwork is, and as it is all in order then makes it a lot quicker to give a mechanic up to 12 months of work carried out on the car, and they can look for older recipts if needed. and with cars with more electrical systems then it becomes even more vital for the diagnosis process, and why I would pay more for a car with a documented background than just a stamped service manual.
