While I don’t agree with some of the others wording of their comment on the channels changing of direction, I do agree that something is definitely “off”. The filming/framing of this episode was just so different than your usual style. As others have mentioned, this one does not seem to have any info or specifics, almost just driving around, and trying to get enough footage for an episode. I fully understand that life can change directions and people adapt and grow, but dont still label and market/push the channel as full time mobile living/mobile lifestyle if it no longer is. You’ve always been openly honest and forthright when it comes to what your feeling and going through over the years, both good and bad. If your wanting to change the direction the channel is going or if your burnt out, just be honest with your long time channel fans and say it. They will understand. Yes you will still lose some that don’t like change, but I bet the bulk of the people would rather just be told “face to face” so to speak. It doesn’t have to be a long drawn out apology video, but anything would be better than the “elephant in the room” of not knowing/understanding. I can’t imagine being a Patreon subscriber and paying for the gps and info of this episode and ones that have been like it. I will stay tuned, hopeful.
My old playground. I used to run those roads in an old 1972 Pontiac Grand Ville and camp in the sand washes next to a bonfire with nothing more than a sleeping bag. We knew most of the swimming holes, and some were stocked with fish. Life was good.
Some good information via a proxy ride-along. A van like this isn't for everyone, and after viewing this video it really helps me decide about ever wanting to own one for a lot of reasons. And that's why I enjoyed watching this video and glad that Chris is sharing this experience with us. Having said this, though, I can see that it would be a desirable option for mild off-road travel with a lot of compact utility with some of the comforts of being somewhat in a regular home. To be sure, you could stay out for a long time in this rig, and not have to worry about going too stir crazy during inclement weather. Good choice for a lot people who can justify the costs.
I live in Arizona. Yes AZ is a beautiful landscape.alpine forest high desert Vistas and the Great Sonora Desert. I've snow skied one day and water skied the next. Oh and the various food opportunities are unbelievable, from south of the border to classic foods. Your choose.
I love the southern arizona stuff. Have not started paying yet. However as a new arizonan less than 2 years and living near Coronado national forest. I like seeing what is near by when I get that day off. Good job Chris.
Chris, I see (14:35) you added a LockNFlate locking airchuck to your onboard air system. I recently added the same, along with a longer leader hose, to my onboard VIAIR onboard air system. Love the LockNFlate and the longer leader hose on my air gun lets me inflate my tires while still standing straight. The stubby hose I previously had on the gun meant kneeling or crouching while airing up.
Chris I have some concerns as a long time subscriber. First, I subscribed because you were an Overlander providing excellent tours of all kinds of locations and not just cacti in Arizona. Secondly, you did it in what I consider to be one of the best/smartest configurations ever put into a Jeep Wrangler. Are those days over now that you have a van and a house with a woman in it in Arizona? I sure hope not.
I would have said "Oh-Ko-TEA-Oh"... but I've also heard "Ock-Oh-TEE-Oh". Definitely a hard "k" sound for the "c" and not a soft "s" sound. They are beautiful when fully leafed out (with a few days to a week of rain), when in bloom, and even in their more dormant phase where they photosynthesize through the green stripes on their "branches" ... such a cool plant. (Ocotillo means “little torch” in Spanish.) Love the series... thanks!
I’ve been watching ya since the beginning. At no fault to you your at a problem point many UA-camrs have found themselves at. I don’t know the answer but the videos arnt the same when we can tell your driving around your backyard to get your weekly footage before you go back to your house for date night. It now feels like UA-cam went from documenting an adventure for fun to just another job 😢
It IS a job. And now, thanks to expectations, he has to produce. Enjoy it or don’t, he does some good photography and He’s getting some exercise, unlike some of us, myself included. The romantic notion of a free-wheeling existence is what we crave, that’s why we watch. But really- we need to step out of the house and live our lives too. Get out there
I hate backtracking as well. Funny how common it is here in the West to have overlanding, 4x4 and even biking routes that are out and back. In Vermont, one would never even consider an out and back route.
Thanks for another great video, Chris! I appreciate your honest, uncontrived presentation. I might add that Shannon is a terrific lady (we met you guys in Lander). Blessings!
Another great adventure and video Chris! It’s nice to have different options on which rig you’ll take out on an adventure, the Revel, the Defender, or Orangie!
Yeah I haven't seen you do anything we haven't done in an old VW bug. The bug would definitely fit under that tree. I think my old Chevy van would too.
@@NigelNaughton And it did. Poor man's jeep we called it. My dad hopped the engine up a bit cuz those were gutless, did something for an inch of lift but I'm not sure how he pulled that off. We drove that thing from desert to logging roads to beach sand. Bunch of kids learned to drive stick on the beach and in the deserts of central Oregon.
Do you think the next version Revel with AWD instead of 4x4 would make through that road with no issues? New Sprinter will no longer make 4x4 and I am wondering if the new AWD would do fine, if you know…thanks
The current Sprinter 4x4 system is essentially a selectable AWD system as there are no locking differentials or hubs in the system. Instead it uses an electronic braking system to lock the spinning wheel in an attempt to get power to the wheels that aren’t spinning. You can drive the current Sprinter at highway speeds, on a dry road, with the 4x4 system engaged; not something you’d want to do with a real 4x4 drive. The new Sprinter (2023) will be available in a full time AWD. This system will be lighter and just as capable as the current 4x4 system in the Sprinters. The engine will deliver more HP and torque than the current V6. About the only thing lost is the selectable low range gearing found in the current Sprinters. Realistically, nothing is lost though as the 2023 Sprinter has a new transmission and the 1st gear in the new Sprinter yields a similar crawl ratio to that of the current Sprinter in low range and 1st gear. If I didn’t already own a 2018 Sprinter 4x4 I’d be very tempted by the new 2023 Sprinter with AWD.
Hello Chris, For years I’d been hoping to meet up with you on one of your Arizona adventures, it just didn’t happens. Almost a year ago my wife and I moved from Green Valley Arizona to Las Cruces New Mexico and look what happens. Arivaca was thirty-four miles from our old home in Green Valley… We’ll someday you may decide to explore southern New Mexico, there’s a lot to see here. Stay safe
I noticed on your Winnebago camper, it showed your Texas license plate. I live at Lake, Bridgeport, Texas, if you need a place to hang out, send me a message.
Some of the early shots have you way too close to the wheel. Worried about airbag doing serious damage if it went off. Hopefully van has more adjustability than that..
Seriously dude you need to make your show a little more interesting, don’t eat spaghetti all the time when your gal was with you she got some really good food.

Not long ago it took a real professional to make 4K videos, now, a guy that lives in his van down by the river does it!
A guy down by the river, can be sophisticated too!🤭

We call those scratches "Arizona Pinstripes"
Gotta love southwest Arizona. Many amazing trails in my backyard.

I live in AZ and my son laughs at me when I jump out with my Black and decker 20V hedge trimmer and trim the bushes back.
Excellent idea!👍
Do you use any special coating for the van that protects against scratches?
Nope, we thought about doing a wrap but started living in / using the van and it fell by the wayside. Definitely some pinstriping.
I am a long time resident of AZ when you get down by the border like you have done you need to be very careful

Chris, Im curious what the Revel does as far as range and mileage off road, compared to orangie for instance.
If you heat your marinara sauce your pasta would be even better...

Wide angle and post processing?!
Pretty much what Darcy said - it’s a feature of the gear. I’m still a one-man show!
