Hi Robbie. Took the kids fishing on Monday along the Goulburn Ovens and caught my first crayfish (6cm). Well...kind of....my 8yr old daughter caught it via fish rod. Just a word of warning for anyone taking kids fishing at the moment, the banks of the rivers here are quiet slippery. As upon returning the cray, myself and my other daughter (9yrs), ended up slipping into the drink. Lucky for us we both got out safely - cold, wet, muddy but safe.
Robbie , I want you to save your fish heads from 4 fish and keep them frozen so they are nice and fresh when you plant them in your crab pots :) works here so well . they love fresh aquatic meat .
Had a chuckle when you were checking out your boots. Never know if someone has taken up residence. Nice pair of crays for the dinner table. Looks like a good day out 🐟

Great video Robbie, I was at Yarrawonga below the weir in the river this long weekend we caught about 30, plenty of big females 1 cray went 16cm from the back of the eye socket to the end of the carapace all were caught on sweet potato and pumpkin, all were returned to water safely
WOW 16cm is EPIC! Well done mate. I thought my 130 was big. I have never heard of vegetables being used as bait, but I do have a feeling that most crustaceans are omnivorous so I am not surprised. Great work mate, thanks for the report.
@@lukemarchionne Actually Champ yabbie is a synonym of crayfish/crawfish. It is merely the Australian term for freshwater crayfish but most usually applied to the herax-destructor. Hi Adam, you sure do mate. That is where this video was made! They can bite any time day or night mate, I am not sure if there is a preferred time or not. I have had some good luck at night, but in saying that all of these ones were caught during the day!

Say, I'm an American viewer and I'm southern and truly love what you call Yabbies we call mudbugs. I have a plethora of questions about Yabbies... but the biggest 3 questions are: why are they so big compared to crawfish in the US? have you ever had a crawfish boil, Cajun style with Yabbies? and last, of all, why aren't their yabbies in my country" because they look super meaty"? plus, other questions like; some videos of Yabbies I've seen are like in droves in cattle watering holes all muddy, but your watering holes are all clear and clean looking, why, and do the taste better from the wild rather than farmed?
Hi Richard thanks for watching. I have seen crawfish boils but have never caught that many yabbies that I could do that myself. I'm unsure why out a grow so big. Perhaps it is the genetics of each species? As for the water, generally we get yabbies (you call them mudbugs) in dirty still stagnant water, and a huge crayfish (such as in this video) in clear, well oxygenated flowing water. Crayfish like healthy levels of dissolved oxygen whereas yabbies are happy in stagnant water. I hope this answers your questions mate.
@@robbiefishing yes, thanks for the responce! Your probably the first person I've ever gotten a responce when I asked questions about Yabbies.
