I watched this show when it first aired, and now I'm going back through it as I'm reading the book. The quotes are word for word from the book - loving this!!
Childermass is brilliant.
Your comment is........convoluted.
Ah! Finally an adaptation based on the actual quotes from the book! Long live John Uskglass!
This looks perfect~! I love Segundus having a complete fangirl attack over all the books, and Honeyfoot in the background being adorable. I'm pretty sure Norrell's lines are verbatim from the book. And I have never been more in love with Childermass than I am now (seriously, I always loved his character, but now I want to marry him.)
_Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell_ is one of my favorite books ever written, and this looks like a truly beautiful adaptation. I've never been so excited to see a book adapted for screen!

LOL, I couldn't have said it better :D
It looks exactly as I imagined, so excited for this series.
The barley twist legs on that prominent table! I'm ecstatic over the design of this programme. This is impeccable.
What a great series made from the books! Such a shame there was only 1 series made!!
Susanna Clarke, the author of the novel, did a great job. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it on the BBC and hoping for more.
Flippin' love John Childermass, he's the real MVP in this story
Just too excited for words!!!
Very sad I missed the first episode, THIS is now on my list for watching.
Can't wait!!
the series ws one of the best adaptation of a book i have ever seen! Current directors should take this seriees as an example!
The book needs a sequel to tie up some loose ends even though I'm usually against them.
:o i loved this book! i hope the show can do it justice
Loved the book! When will it hit BBC america? I cannot wait for this series!
I'm looking forward to this one, too.
A friend of mine hated the book and gave me her copy. I loved it. I'm hoping for a sequel, but the length of time it took her to write this one, I'm not holding my breath.
Doug Schwartz She is writing a sequel. :) And I don't mind if it takes another 10 years. If it takes that long to write a brilliant book, I'll wait - it's better than authors who spit out the same book all over again and again and again... did you read The Ladies of Grace Adieu?
Ninchennase - I forgot that I have her other book on my shelves! I'll have to migrate it to the stack at my bedside. :)
As for taking 10 years, I sympathize with her. I imagine she probably spent a lot of those 10 years doing the historical research for JS&MN apart from writing it. It took me 20ish years from when I dreamt up the idea of my book until I published it. For me, most of that time was finding the right way to tell the story. It's no JS&MN, but I am pleased with the result. And, the feedback on it has been mostly positive.
Ninchennase Now THAT is good news. I finished my latest re-reading of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell less than 15 minutes ago, and, as always, was saddened by the parting of Strange and Arabella.
Loved the book and it seems from this that the BBC might have a good chance of making great tv from it
Wow. This looks spot on. Wonderful focus on the importance of spellbooks; the lifebood of a magic-user.
Stay close to the candles. The staircase can be treacherous.
Love this mo v I e
Count back 300 years and you get the dissolution of the monasteries.
This was 8 years ago? Really? Wow I saw it rather late then..
Mr. Segundus is about to expire at any moment... Either that, or his eyes are going to fall out.
My only question is: when?

Excellent.
