Similarly, the Lakota language (a Siouan language of the northern great plains of North America) has the word "wakan" which is variously translated as "medicine," "holy," or (potentally) "magic." All of these concepts carry connotations of mystery, as holy beings are mysterious ("Wakan Tanka," the Great Mystery of Lakota religion and roughly akin to an overarching deity, is sometimes translated as "Great Spirit" with "tanka" being a common word to indicate large size or otherwise greatness), or disease and healing is mysterious for pre-industrial or pre-scientific societies. "Mni wakan" (alcohol) is "water" that has mysterious effects. I have to assume that any resemblance to the various "weik" derivatives in European languages is entirely coincidental, at least until linguists/etymologists find a way to trace back further than Proto-Indo-European to connect it with the languages of Native Americans.
The ancient indian scriptures have many stories in which it is mentioned that there were rulers who ruled the entire globe and vedic knowledge was everywhere, with the coming of dark age (kaliyuga) the Dharma is 1/4th of its original strength, elites have huge control over us. @@patrichausammann Water is "udara" in Indonesian. (? /!) Water in ancient Greek was "ydoor" and even in modern Greek their is the adjective meaning "watery", which has the nominative forms (in masculine, feminine, & neutral) "ydarees ydaree ydares", respectively!
@@jimanast3593 Very interesting! I figured out some kind of a system to interprete other foreign languages and it works pretty well. Naturally there are false friends and some changes which are based on historic divergences, but when I realize how to interprete with my system I was really astound that I understand many words. What amazed me most was that when I saw a documentary about American natives, I understood practically everything, and that before the actual translation was told. Since I taught myself the Cyrillic alphabet, I now often understand Russian words. I mean look at the example of the word "water" in Russian or German. In Russian it is "вода" (> voda), pronounced "vada" and then you look at "water" in English. Or in German it is "Waßer" or "Wasser". I mean, there isn't much of a difference in Italian either, since it's called "aqua" there. Maybe you ask now why. Look at "voda" (pron. "vada"). Just two simple adaptions and you see what I mean. You just have to invert the "d" to a "q" and change the "v" to "u" and then rearrange the letters. Actually it does not surprise me at all. It just remembers me to "one ring to rule them all". This ring has to be uncovered, that its power fade away. I want the world to become a better place, but to achieve this we have to disclose that our "mighty leaders" don't want our best. They want to play us off against each other to gain even more power and wealth. Some teachers told me that I could never show the connections between the different languages, and that languages have absolutely nothing to do with mathematics. However, I disagreed and the older I got, the more convinced I am that I was right as a little lad.
Great job on the video! I learned so much historical truth. But it all stems from deceptive roots so it makes me question things more now than how I felt prior.
The proto-Celtic root of druid was specifically the oak tree, if I remember correctly, though it did come from the PIE word for tree. So the druid was the oak-knower. With the oak tree being _dair_ in modern Irish. The Irish for magic is _draíocht_ which comes from the druidic arts which over time became magic or enchantment in general.
@@mladendjukic1061 It's pointless giving words without saying which language they are from. Writing the letter V immediately marks this out as suspicious. It wasn't used in Old Irish. The 'v' sound does exist but it is produced by what is called lenition of the letters 'b' and 'm', with another 'v' sound being produced by what is called eclipsis of the letter 'f'. None of these changes were written in Old Irish, which was first written by monks using the Latin script. It was understood that the changes were triggered by the placement of the letters. Later lenition was written by putting a dot over the letter, and eclipsis by the use of consonants. And not of these sounds would occur in the Old Celtic root, from which Old Irish and the Gaulish forms would have come from. The Old Celtic is reconstructed to be something like *derwijes, broken down to *derwos "true" and *dru- "tree" (especially oak) + *wid- "to know". The Old Irish form was written as 'drui' with the dative and accusative forms being 'druid'. The plural was 'druad'. The modern Irish hasn't changed much, being 'draoi' meaning *druid*, with later meanings of wizard and magician, or someone who read auguries. Where did you get these two words? What language are they supposed to be from?
Atlantean priests/sorcerers moved to Egypt and passed their knowledge, you can read about it in the book from Manly P. Hall and book name is SECRET TEACHINGS OF ALL AGES
I love this video. Part of the reason is all the connected lines. Etymology is a nice and interesting thing to delve into, but to connect them like tinfoil-hat conspiracies makes it even better! Great way to straddle the line between subtle and overbearing comedic composition.
It comes from the codes that command the matrix. The matrix we live in is commanded by Combinations of tones that can be used by putting the tones into word commands for easy remembrance. Words are used in combination to create the tones needed to produce the command. There are beings all around us that we can't see some are to assist us with certain problems but not if its part of our training. The commands are there for the certain beings who took bodies for higher purposes. But we have learned from them or witnessed them being used and wrote them down in a way for us to understand. Hope this helps the matrix is made from waves of energy from another Dimension.
There's a movie "Frequencies" by Darren Paul Fisher. Have you seen it? It showcases the theory you mention. Code (frequency) is the basis of the language and strings of code form commands. I wouldn't consider the commands magic themselves, like you wouldn't think of a computer command as magic. The Matrix was designed with a fixed number of commands. I think magic refers to using non-native(artificial) commands that are created within the Matrix to alter reality.
I like the news report style used here . It would be great to see you both publish a book with a glossary and footnotes that alone would be so interesting..

Wow! What a great and educating lecture on the etymology of magic. I enjoyed it very much, although there's a plethora of additional words associated with magic. The Hex/Hexe/Hagazussa/Heka/Hekate connection would have been a nice addition, as well as Caduceus, Thaumaturgy, and Dweomer (a word rediscovered by Gary Gygax - one of the creators of Dungeons & Dragons). So, how do you feel about a second part for this topic?
I may well revisit magical words, there certainly are many more! I've got a few Endnotes planned with bits I left out of this (already very long!) video...

@@vojsavaibrahimi3571 The best I can take from your comment is "bannan" from protogermanic which is the root for banish and abandon. And this means "to take away" or to "put away", which is the speculative root for bandit too. Don't know which language you're using but from greek is "to reveal" or "to manifest" and the PIE root is BHA. Sanskrit uses "bhanati" which means "to speak" or "to voice".
Re: deus ex machina...the phrase (translated into Latin from Greek) originally referred to staged divine interventions in classical dramas. An actor playing the god was placed in a mechanical device above the stage, so that he could descend on cue and deal with other characters' problems.
"Magic" has always been with humans. You have done a nice job of analyzing the term in a western sense and I guess a deep analysis would have required a series
There is *always* more to say! Because I'm focused around the etymology of English words, I do end up with more restricted slices of big topics like this.
Wow! Soooo much information in this video, I need to watch it several times to absorb it all. Along the line of self-fulfilling prophecies is the power of suggestion. That's really what a self-fulfilling prophecy is; a strong suggestion.

To address some repeated comments: This video is about the origin of the word "Magic" and the tradition and concepts the English word refers to; therefore it covers some (not all) of the history of magic within the cultures that affected the word before and as it came into English. It is not intended to explain all magic everywhere or all the various magical traditions across the world. There are many rich and important traditions of magic in other languages and cultures. It's interesting how Polish "wiedźma" (a witch) doesn't seem to have negative etymology, yet it suddenly got this connotation, probably after the The Grimms' Fairy Tales publication, most notably Hansel and Gretel, so it would seem. "Wiedźma" comes from *vĕdьma meaning "she who knows" similar to how "wieszcz" came to be meaning originally prophet, wiseman and later an inspired poet. Both praslavic *vĕdĕti (to know) and *vidĕti (to see) come from PIE *weyd-, yet somehow "wiedźma" feels more connected to sanskrit वेत्ति (veda) than "wieszcz" is... at least it feels that way - if I were to form a feminine version of "wieszcz" I could do it ("wieszczyna" seems the most plausible form, as the tree "wierzba" which is a feminine tree has another form that is "wierzbina", coming from *werb- or perhaps *wer-), yet I can't do it the other way - there's no way to make a masculine form of "wiedźma" other than "wiedźmin" which is a word created for the witcher series, so it is plain fantasy. I find this discrepancy between Slavic and Romance/Germaic etymologies really amusing.
Put this into context. Grimes fairy tales was used to teach children. During the Bolshevik famines children were cannibalized and many women were involved. It’s a reference to Bolshevist terror upon the innocent.
Short answer. It was two angels harut and marut who informed people about magic. But only the devils and magicians engaged in it. To become a magician you will have to do the worst types of things first in order for the devils to engage with you. I personally know people who have seen these things and it is as real as it gets.

Magic. It is "unknown" or "held secret". That is the most basic and honest way to put it without ANY SPIN OR "MAGIC". You must stay center with no considering any opinion or "thought". A lot of this makes sense since governments, rulers, and organized religion tend to fear intelligent and wise people because they are not easy to control.
Never a truer statement....To this day, they still have nothing other than disdain..or contempt for any one..who, actually thinks for him or her self...They really do wish for a population which..questions nothing, and believes only what is being designed for them. My daughter was given an assignment and told that..only, "approved" sources where allowed..and, that their work would not be accepted if other sources were used....The same with MSM, it's designed to seem like many sources...when, in reality, it is one source which seems like many...Many people truly believe, they are informed peoples..However, you cannot be an informed person..if, your information comes only from one source or "approved" only sources, as you are then getting designed information..just, like they are doing to people in the education system with.."approved, sources only". They do not want a population which thinks and forms their own opinions...They long for a day in which the generation that walks upon the earth, exist in a world where no other sources than, the "approved" sources have survived. Which again, it will seem like many different sources do exist..however, all those sources will contain the same designed idea/way of thinking...Sorry for rambling, it's late.
Concept of magic in Hinduism is defined so differently... In Hinduism we say it supernatural powers... There are lots of supernatural powers mentioned in Hinduism such as 8 ashtashiddhi, 7 matrika, 8 matrika, 10 mahaviddya, kundalini power, 7 Chakras etc. Naruto anime even mentioned 7 chakras as well as these chakras also give human superpowers. These powers aren't like banned or wrong in Hinduism as long as long you are using for doing good stuffs.... There are also some dark powers as well which are banned to do in Hinduism.
There's a series of children's books called "Hilda" that have a character who's a Mara, and she makes the main characters have nightmares. It's pretty cool to know the author probably knew about the etymology of the word and used it on purpose. Also, the idea of the Mara comes, as far as I know, from "night terrors", a disposition common in teens and young adults caused by stress, anxiety and others that make you suffer constant nightmares, that are quite severe. Sleep paralysis, that can make your mind distort reality, forming monsters, creatures and faces that are "not allowing you to move or breath correctly" and the horrible misogynistic idea of female lust. On another comment, not so much about the video itself. The 2 ads before your video were quite... interesting. One is for an app Gaia? that was talking about ancient powers (aliens, magic, etc) and the 2nd was a catholic ad for this coming Easter... I couldn't keep from giggling.. xD

The Magi would light their fires, chant their mantras and make their offerings to their God “Ahura Mazda”. They were the old world order, priests of Zarathustra, teachers of Avesta, and as Brahmans were to India and the Druids to Europe, so were the Magi to its capital Iran and the surrounding areas of what came to be known as Persia. ~ “Magi” means “priest” its source is the Sanskrit “maga” meaning “priest of the Sun” which then becomes the European words “magic” and “magician”. Zarathustra was their prophet, born into a family of animal traders, his name has been said to mean “one whose camels are old” the “ustra” from the Sanskrit “ustra” meaning “camel” and “zara” seems to come from the Sanskrit “jara” meaning “old” the same “jara” which becomes the European “geriatrics” and “gerentology". ~ Their object of worship, their supreme deity was Ahura Mazda, the “ahura” being the Sanskrit “asura” meaning “divine” from the root “asu” meaning “spirit” and the word “mazda” is the Sanskrit “medha” meaning “wisdom" his name meaning “divine wisdom”. Their beginnings are said to go back some 3,500 - 6000 years and the names for their God, their prophet and their priests are all Sanskrit. ~ In his book “the science of language” Professor Max Muller writes “ It was more faithfully preserved by the Zoroastrians who migrated from India to the northwest and whose religion has been preserved to us in the Zind Avesta, though in fragments only. The Zoroastrians were a colony from northern India ”. The wisdom of the Magi was once a vast library of knowledge known as “Avesta” their language was called “Avestan” a dialect of the ancient Sanskrit language. ~ Iran was originally called "Aryan" its citizens were originally known as "Aryans" they were the centre of Avestan culture. “Arya” meaning “nobel” describes the character of a person and has no relation to skin colour nor geographical locations, its emphasis reflects the cultivation of spiritual knowledge. This was emphasised by Lord Krsna some 5000 years ago where he accuses Arjunas decision not to fight, as non Aryan, as indicated by the word “anarya”. ~ “ sri-bhagavan uvaca kutas tva kasmalam idam visame samupasthitam anarya-justam asvargyam akirti-karam arjuna “ ~ “ The Supreme Person ( Bhagavan ) said, My dear Arjuna, how have these impurities come upon you ? They are not at all befitting a man who knows the progressive values of life, they do not lead to higher planets, but to infamy.” Gita 2.2 ~ The etymology of “Arya” is “ar” meaning “to move” and “ya” meaning “advance” as in that which “moves (ar) in order to advance (ya)”. The dictionary defines “Arya” as “noble” “leader” “kind” “polite” “honourable” “wise” “master” “gentleman” and one who “behaves like an Aryan”. The land which became known as Persia was once “Aryan” and the scriptures known as “Avesta” reflect this in their hymns. ~ " As the bright, glorious star Tishtrya moves on equally, so does the strong wind made by Mazda, and so the Glory of the Aryans ” ~ ” Ahura Mazda spoke unto Zarathushtra, saying, i made the Aryan Glory, rich in food, rich in flocks, rich in wealth and rich in Glory “ ~ “ I bless the sacrifice and prayer and the strength and vigour of the Glory of the Aryans made by Mazda ” - all verses from the Ashtad Yasht of Avesta. ~ “Bagastan” known today as ( Behistoon ) is an ancient city of Iran, its name is the Sanskrit “bhaga” meaning “God” and the Sanskrit “sthana” meaning “land” as in “the land of God”. We see the same in the capital of Iraq known as “Bhagdad” the “bhag” being the Sanskrit “bhaga” meaning “God” and “dad” being the Sanskrit “dada” and “dadati” meaning “gift” as in “gift of God”. Upon the cliff face of Bagastan in Iran we find written the following words. ~ " I am Darius the great King, King of Kings, King of many countries and many people, King of this expansive land, the Archaiemenid, son of a Persian, Aryan from the Aryan race ”. Herodotus the famous Greek historian also writes “ These ( Medes and Persians ) were called anciently by all people as the Aryans”. ~ This was the Middle East over 2000 years ago. Prior to the Greeks and Europeans naming the land “Persia” it was known as the Kingdom of the Aryans, an extension of Vedic India where even the name “Iran” is a corruption of the word “Aryan”. And their kings such as “Cyrus the great” and “Darius” both Sanskrit names “Cyrus” a corruption of “Kurus” a name of the great Vedic dynasty and “Darius” is the Sanskrit “dharya” meaning “holding” his name according to academia “holding firm the good”.
Actually it’s the new world order because the egypto-Greco-Phoenician cultural line is 70 000 years old and the Babylonian is only 7000-10 000 yrs. Look up Austronesian maritime peoples.
You’re going the wrong direction with the assumption that Avestan came from Sanskrit or that one was a corruption of the other. They were contemporaries and one would likely have understood the other in those times. It is useful to compare the languages to make sense of the other, but they both came from the same proto languages.
There are people who actually go out of their way to prove these people are scammers and reveal their tricks to make people believe them and of course give them money. It’s sad their tricks include people being killed.
Wow! Great presentation. Linguistics is on the level of genetic historic evidence. Empires may write histories but they can't stop the organic dispersion and connections between words.

"Waka" might come from the "rain maker" or "rain god" (> deity), then rain is "water from heaven", so it might be "holy" but also mysterious or magic. I would guess, that "Tanka" might have an Asiatic influence. Maybe from the Japanese language. Because in Japanese "Tanka" is a form of ancient short poem. So we would get "mysterious poem"(>story) or "holy story" from "Wakan Tanka". And we shouldn't forget that knowledge in the past has been passed on in a poetic oral form!😉
"Mni" might be related to "Mizu", which means "water" in Japanese. Actually it looks to me like a mixture of Japanese, Hawaiian, Maori and Samoan (Mizuka waiwaivai >> Mni). Maybe they have a connection to the German word "Wasser" (>vasɐ) too. And it might be possible, that the west Germanic word "watar", was probably "transformed" to the English word "water". If we have a look at Indonesian, we can see that the expression for water made a circle, from our "English" point of view. And it seems funny, that Indonesia is diagonal on the other side of Eurasia, viewed from England. And now guess what. It is the exact opposit (> contra element) of the English expression, then "water"(Engl.) is called "air" in Indonesia.😉 And to be honest, it seems really strange that the term for "water" is "udara", in Indonesian (udara >> 1.u >v>W, 2. d > ß, 3. a, 4. r, 5. a >e >> 1, 3, 2, 5, 4>>> "Waßer"(Ger.) "Wasser" (Sui. Ger.) water(Engl.)). It looks to me that some people had a lot of time and fun, to shuffle the things(>words) up. But hey, I am only a hobby linguist.😉
Another strange point is that a tribe of the Lakota is called "Teton", which reminds me very much to the ancient Nordic people in the region of "Jutland", and around Danemark. But they had also connections to the "Blackforest in Germany and the source region of the Danube river.😉 They were called "Teutons" (Engl. with "-s" as a indicator for a plural), "Teutoni" (Ital. with "-i" as an indicator for a plural) and in German "Teutonen" (also with "-nen" as an indicator for a plural). But a part of their homeland sank and they had to leave😔.
Here I translated a part of a German Wikipedia article to English:
"Thiuda (Þiuda) is the earliest surviving lexeme in a Germanic language, in the Gothic language, meaning "people".
The * þeudō, which was reconstructed for the Germanic language, forms the linguistic basis for the etymology of the term German and emerges as a word element in the field of onomastics." (Source: Wikipedia de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiuda)
Have also a look at the Túatha Dé Danann in Ireland and the "Isla of Mann"😉/Isle of Man or simply "Mannin".
As I mentioned in another post, J. J. R. Tolkien already knew the answers, and I think I know them too.😊

Druid comes from drvid or drvovid .

~
“Magi” means “priest” its source is the Sanskrit “maga” meaning “priest of the Sun” which then becomes the European words “magic” and “magician”.
~
Their object of worship, their supreme deity was Ahura Mazda, the “ahura” being the Sanskrit “asura” meaning “divine” from the root “asu” meaning “spirit” and the word “mazda” is the Sanskrit “medha” meaning “wisdom" his name meaning “divine wisdom”. Their beginnings are said to go back some 3,500 - 6000 years and the names for their God, their prophet and their priests are all Sanskrit.
~
In his book “the science of language” Professor Max Muller writes “ It was more faithfully preserved by the Zoroastrians who migrated from India to the northwest and whose religion has been preserved to us in the Zind Avesta, though in fragments only. The Zoroastrians were a colony from northern India ”. The wisdom of the Magi was once a vast library of knowledge known as “Avesta” their language was called “Avestan” a dialect of the ancient Sanskrit language.
~
Iran was originally called "Aryan" its citizens were originally known as "Aryans" they were the centre of Avestan culture.
~
“ sri-bhagavan uvaca
kutas tva kasmalam idam
visame samupasthitam
anarya-justam asvargyam

~
“ The Supreme Person ( Bhagavan ) said, My dear Arjuna, how have these impurities come upon you ? They are not at all befitting a man who knows the progressive values of life, they do not lead to higher planets, but to infamy.” Gita 2.2
~
The etymology of “Arya” is “ar” meaning “to move” and “ya” meaning “advance” as in that which “moves (ar) in order to advance (ya)”.
~
" As the bright, glorious star Tishtrya moves on equally, so does the strong wind made by Mazda, and so the Glory of the Aryans ”
~
” Ahura Mazda spoke unto Zarathushtra, saying, i made the Aryan Glory, rich in food, rich in flocks, rich in wealth and rich in Glory “
~
“ I bless the sacrifice and prayer and the strength and vigour of the Glory of the Aryans made by Mazda ” - all verses from the Ashtad Yasht of Avesta.

“Bagastan” known today as ( Behistoon ) is an ancient city of Iran, its name is the Sanskrit “bhaga” meaning “God” and the Sanskrit “sthana” meaning “land” as in “the land of God”.
~
" I am Darius the great King, King of Kings, King of many countries and many people, King of this expansive land, the Archaiemenid, son of a Persian, Aryan from the Aryan race ”. Herodotus the famous Greek historian also writes “ These ( Medes and Persians ) were called anciently by all people as the Aryans”.
~
This was the Middle East over 2000 years ago.
