I vividly remember getting to walk up all those stairs back when my parents and I visited DC back in the seventies. It was so cool to be able to see all of those plaques in the stairwell, and it's kind of sad you don't normally get to do that anymore. Thanks for sharing a great video in a fun format, it really took me back, I am pretty sure I was even younger than your young Mr. Lincoln when I was there.

I remember going there up the elevator, dropped down, going inside a dimension where very special trees go up & down & dust laying on the ground. & then waking up on the floor of the Washington Monument. It was pain.
I have had the privilege of walking down the stairs at the Washington Monument. They used to allow it regularly, but I was told it is unlikely to happen again. Seeing all those stones is very cool. If I recall correctly, the walk down took about an hour.
I actually did walk up and down the Washington Monument in the early 60's. I was probably in 6th grade in school, and it was a school bus trip. Looks so much different now than it did then. Nothing fancy then at all. But I'm glad I did it.
Thanks for the great memories. I walked up the stairs during a high school trip to DC in 1965. Wonderful to see those amazing carved stones again. It didn't seem like a long climb at age 18. Now, I'd be finished after 30 feet!!!
That was my favorite thing about DC long time ago it was the tallest building in the world. Only from 1884 till 1889 until the Eiffel Tower outgrew it but it’s still the tallest building in DC.
Founded in 1790, the nation's capital has been a dynamic city with plenty of highs and lows to match its place in American history. Founded on July 16, 1790, Washington, DC is unique among American cities because it was established by the Constitution of the United States to serve as the nation's capital. The Residence Act of July 16, 1790, put the nation's capital in current-day Washington as part of a plan to appease pro-slavery states who feared a northern capital as being too sympathetic to abolitionists. On July 9, 1790, Congress passed the Residence Act, which approved the creation of a national capital on the Potomac River. ... On September 9, 1791, the three commissioners overseeing the capital's construction named the city in honor of President Washington. I walked down the Washington Monument when I was 5 (1969). I didn't remember the interior. I remembered extremely sore, rubbery legs. I really wanted to give up 2/3 the way down, but my dad kept saying, but we're almost finished. I appreciate this video, seeing the plaques on the walls.
I came down a staircase in a 33 story building in 1.5 minutes . 2 flights per floor . Took them one at a time . We had a competition . They beat me going up . I passed them .

I was thinking about this last night. I got to go in the Washington monument once and was really bummed out that we were not allowed in the stairs when all those beautiful State stones were there. I then thought, maybe some one did a UA-cam video of it? And here I am 🙂
