Dr. Esselstyn has always talked about the importance of oral micro-biome and how we need to focus on chewing our food. He also recommends against alcohol based mouthwash
i eat an organic wfpbd and i brush my teeth and tongue every evening. i use only baking soda and reverse osmosis water. i use an extra soft brush and brush very gently, rinsing thoroughly. i also rinse after every meal. if i feel i have bad breath i chew a sprig of parsley, it's very effective. i believe dr. gregor did a video on this.
I really appreciate this dental health series. Would you be able to extend upon the series with using the ingredient nano-hydroxyapatite in lieu of fluoride when brushing teeth?
@@Luckygirlme111 Why would nanoparticles ever be bad? In or of themselves they're neithe useful nor hazardous. In biotechnology, they're functionalized with bioactive/pharmacologically or chemically active molecules. In this case hydroxyapatite crystals. Both these and fluoride toothpaste are perfectly safe as per lastest science.
@@miloradvlaovic In beauty products, nano particles of titanium dioxide and zinc should be avoided because they can be carcinogenic or something like that
@@Luckygirlme111 nano or not, titanium dioxide is a reason for concern; potential carcinogenity included. But that has nothing to do with the particle size, rather with the chemical structure.
Was toothpaste tooth brushing or swishing with coconut oil tested with the good bacteria productions? Surely both alter the microbial make up of the mouth.
I'd be interested to know if this includes tongue-brushing. I brush my tongue with my toothbrush when I do my teeth, but after watching this video I'm not sure if I should-I have a pacemaker. Could tongue brushing also introduce bad stuff for my heart?
He addressed this in one of the previous videos. Tongue brushing is, apparently helpful in introducing oncogenic compounds into deeper cellular layers of the tongue surface. Coupled with the inflammation it creates via mechanical stress, the practice creates a favourable milieu for development of the oral cancer. Tongue scraping and brushing, as well as plaque removal (done in a dentists office) can always potentially cause coronary infections, but in reality that happens very, very rarely. Still, to be on the safe side, MDs usually recommend patients to avoid it altogether in specific cases.
He has previously talked about that. The nitrates have synergy with other plant compounds so that nitrates in meat caused harm and nitrates in plants were beneficial.
It has to do with added vs naturally-occurring. Added nitrates in meat will react with things in the meat and from the cooking of the meat to create cancer causing compounds. Naturally-occurring nitrates in vegetables will form beneficial nitric oxide. If you watch this channel you will learn you can't look at things in isolation and say they are good or bad. Sugar is bad if it's in the form of cookies, but good in blueberries. You have to look at the whole food.
That goes back as far as humanity and before. It's a totally natural process that our genetics have had 100's of 1000's of years to deal with. This is also why whole plant foods are so difficult to overeat or suffer malnutrition from. The troubles we have for the most part are all from modernized food supply and environmental contamination. Fibrous foods and chewing them up are what our bodies yet crave, and benefit best from, by the "programming" written over the last few 100,000 years. Therefore and thereby fibrous foods are no issue at all for most folks. Our REAL problem is fiberless foods designed by man, not Nature.
I am more concerned with killing beneficial bacteria, as mouthwash apparently does. So my question is if salt rinsing acts the same as mouthwash. I'd love to know the answer!
Salt water temporarily raises the pH in your mouth (less acidic), slowing down and killing some of the bacteria from dehydration, but also making the oral environment better for brushing since you don't want to brush any acids into your teeth. It would say it's generally better than a commercial mouthwash to rinse with salt water then rinse with water.
what about plant based DIY mouthwash (thym pwd, cloves powder) more convenient than tongue scraping and certainly without the antibacterial mouth rinses side effect
What? I’m 65 and have never scraped my tongue once. Not gonna start now. Never a heavy user, I quit using mouthwash over a year ago because of nitric oxide. I don’t like arugula, so rather than ruining recipes with it, I chew on it in the morning strictly as a supplement. Supposedly the more you chew it the better. I also drink a cocktail of beet juice and low-sodium V8.
Just drink beet juice or a green smoothie preworkout. You will get the nitrates along with the antioxidants and fiber. Supplements are expensive and never as effective as whole foods.
Just curious if you have any thoughts on HMB and Vitamin D combo use? I've seen some recent studies and internet articles suggesting it is very helpful to 60+ year olds muscle development.....and I realize this topic has nothing to do with this tongue series but would wonder if you would consider doing a vid on the topic......thanx and ....keep up the GREAT work.....this info you give out for free is....PRICELESS!!! God Bless!
Didn't he say in an earlier video that nitrates slow your metabolism? Even if it's healthy I don't want to eat something if I have to eat less calories because of it.
How do you properly clean your tongue? Just brush it with a toothbrush along with toothpaste? I see a special contraption in the video thumbnail, so I'm wondering if I'm missing out on something.

Wait, does hydroxyapatite toothpaste have nano particles? Is it bad? I just switched to a hydroxyapatite toothpaste...

Oh thank god. I thought you were going to say "the science says DONT do it" Cause i do that.
Good! I like to scrape my tongue because it makes my mouth feel cleaner. I don't use mouthwash after brushing my teeth or flossing.
What about teeth brushing tho? What should or shouldn't be in my toothpaste?

So what's the difference between nitrate-rich vegetables and nitrates in deli-meat?
Nitrates in deli meat is synthetic. Anything synthetic can be harmful.

Makes one wonder about the effect of all the crap in commercial toothpaste on the oral biome.
What about rinsing with salt water? My dentist swears by it, but it does kill all bacteria too, no?

What kind of mouthwash would you recommend, if any?
Does fluoride negatively affect the oral microbiome?
yes.
it kills the good bacteria

Eat broccoli
I am 66 and I try to it a few times in the pass and gagged. So about 3wks ago I brought me one of those things and still do the same thing. I give up.
so why not take nitrate oxide supplement? Like preworkout drinks?
Just drink beet juice or a green smoothie preworkout. You will get the nitrates along with the antioxidants and fiber. Supplements are expensive and never as effective as whole foods.
Very informative, thanks.
Normally I understand these clearly, but is he saying yes or "no" to tongue scraping?

Should we swallow or saliva to get the benefits

How can vaccines affect heart health? (myocarditis)
Can drinking hard liquor 3 times a day hurt or help oral health?
Hurt. Drinking alcohol is serious carcinogen.
You can answer that one yourself. You know it's unhealthy to drink alcohol in general
But I believe it's how I avoided covid for 2 years. I swish it around before I swallow, and I eat boringly healthy foods.

Absolutely not. He has videos about hot dogs and processed meats causing cancer and many other things.
