Been watching your videos for a while now, seeing how nice the first generation Town Cars are, and it makes me want to save up the money to try to buy my grandparents old 1989 Signature Series off my uncle and fix it up. It hasn’t run in over 10 years and the last time I remember it being driven was when my uncle took it on a trip and came home with a tow truck towing it. The last time I remember riding in it was when me and my mom went to the grocery store and got pulled over because one of the headlights died and we didn’t even notice it was dead so it must’ve been while we were driving.
Beautiful car !! I had a 1986 Town Car Base Non-Signature Series. Mine had every option before the signature series. I had the keyless buttons on the door, leather wrapped steering wheel, etc.. I even had the carriage roof option. I do like your vinyl roof better because you get the opera light. That’s a nice touch I like on a luxury car.
Great news on your parent's " New " 1989 Town Car. With only 26,000.0 miles on it it should last them a long time barring any more irresponsible drivers ! Any work that needs to be done to it should not pose a problem for you Tony. Just got back Friday with my 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS from New Haven , Ct. and got caught in a 1 hour traffic jam do to an accident that shut down I 84 in Hartford. Had to idle along with A/C on for that time period with no overheat or any problems. I have gotten as much as 26 mpg with the Merc on previous long trips. Fuel injection and overdrive transmission are the key to good gas mileage. I wish your parents all the best with their new purchase, a truly beautiful car.
Very Nice Lincoln! I used to work at the Budd Co. and Budd made all the major class A sheet metal assemblies for the Lincoln, Mark, & Continental - Door, Fenders, Quarter Panels. Deck lids, Hoods and Roof assemblies. They also did the T-birds - 55-50 BIW . The Lincolns were built at Wixom,Michigan and I spent a few days there and Budd had a representative there at all times. Some models the roof to quarter panels were manually leaded in and that was cool to watch and the workers could only do that operation for so many years to not get lead poisoning in the future. I hope and pray your health is good Tony. I am still going thru my maintenance treatments for Follicular Lymphoma and I am feeling pretty good. Your dad and mom look like they are in great shape too! I wouldn't trade the Lincoln for a new car either! Take care and Thanks for your video. Tony
Thanks for that great little bit of info. Very interesting. I don't think Dan ever mentioned that you worked there. I think I'm doing okay for the time being. Take care of yourself.
Hi Tony - Wow, you found a great car for your Mom and Dad! You'll be able to get it just the way you want and as you know you just can't beat a low mileage used vehicle. I'm glad your Mom and Dad are happy. Thanks for sharing this video with us. Y'all come back now, ya hear?❣
Very nice Town Car. I’m glad they’re happy with it and hope that it gives them many years of safe trouble free driving. Can’t wait to see the second one!
That was an awesome find! I'm sure it was well worth the drive. I believe that is one of the sharpest black TCs of that body style that I have ever seen. I know that it is just a matter of personal taste, but IMO I believe that sedan looks fine without the chrome applique along the bottom or the centerline side moldings. That may look nice on other TCs of different colors, but with that matching black coach roof.....it looks perfect the way it is. The only change in appearance I would attempt would be to possibly tint the windows to block out sun's UV rays. The gray cloth interior, headliner, and carpet will fade fast. And because of it's age the cloth headliner will pull loose from the foam backing fairly soon. I love the looks of the car. The black finish with a certain amount of chrome gives it a rather understated look of elegance and authority.....as a LINCOLN should. Also, I hope both your parents are well and have fully recovered from their accident. God bless and keep you all in his tender care.
The base model is so underrated. To see one optioned out highly and still have cloth interior is a really rare beast. I'm not a huge fan of the exterior black color but the base trim would NOT scare me away at all. When i was growing up in the late 1980's, a neighbor of mine bought a 1989 Lincoln Town Car base model in a beautiful shade of mauve. I knew it was the base model but it was the ONLY Town Car i've seen with the base hubcaps at the time. But everytime it drove by my parents house, it looked beautiful. Not everything has to be Signature or Cartier to be considered good in my opinion.
It will be getting things you don't like. My mom said she doesn't get near the compliments on it as she did her white one. That will change when I get done with it.
And I love a black 88/89 Lincoln. I had the velour on my 88 (champagne and light beige velour). Mom and Dad are gonna love this and they’re lucky to have a son like you!
Beautiful car! My buddy had an 89 executive that he put chrome door moldings on it looked great! With the right work done to them I've gotten up to 27 mpg on my 88 signature when they run well they sip gas
These crushed velour seats are far more comfortable than leather and hold up far better than leather on older cars... not cold in the winter, not hot in the summer, holds you in place, sound insulation and makes the interior whisper quiet.
I think that car looks absolutely beautiful and elegant!!! I love the cloth interior much more than leather!! This is a keeper!!! Excellent job finding this car!!! Your folks will love this!!
God bless all of you. I am saying hello from Kalamazoo, Michigan. I have been watching from the accident coverage. Everybody is safe and together you found a car for Mom and Dad. 😊
Congrats on the find. Nice low mileage '89 and hope the price was as nice. And possibly another? His and hers or back up car always works. Two is better than one so they say. I'm just glad these cars still exist in that condition and low mileage period.
Congratulations! I love it, what a find! Yes, chrome rocker moldings will look great. There are so many parts from your wrecked Lincoln that can be put on this one! Beautiful Automobile. Now you have me wondering about another one!? Can't wait to see it!
This car is quite a find. Congrats on sealing the deal. My mom owned an '87 Town Car base model like this one from 1992 through 2003. It was black with the gray interior but didn't have the wire wheel covers. The test drive you took brought back a lot of memories.
Excellent video!! I learned a few things... base price of a base town car is $25,205, base does not have "signature series" on the rear side vinyl just past the opera window, and base town car doesn't have the chrome trim along the bottom of the car. Excellent Town Car!!!! I'd be happy with a base Town Car!!!
Glad the search for your parents replacement Town Car ended in finding a really nice low mile example. I can't wait to watch the progress as you add "signature series" parts to the car. Can't wait to see a video on the second Town Car you found!
Tony, will be awesome 2 new town car’s! One for mom One for Dad! Very Cool 😂❤your u-tube channel…I’m retired love watching your channel, your very smart & knowledgeable. 😊
Beautiful car Tony. I could see your mom in the back seat with a lap blanket as Larry drives her into town. Very pretty car. You got a couple of nice Town cars there!
Beautiful car as is! Elegant simplicity, leave it as original and avoid temptation to add the unneeded SS chrome bling. She is well equipped and possesses a n understated grace. My humble opinion.
I agree with adding the chrome. I actually like it without the added bodyside molding in the middle of the doors...it's neater looking that way to me. There are direct replacements for R-12 without converting the system. Freeze12, Envirosafe/Artic Air, are some. Look up drop in replacement for R12... If that radio is working properly, that's gold alone in this car. You can always transfer the JBL speakers/amp/grille badges from your parents' car that was hit into this car, along with the automatic mirror. Enjoy, all of you!
I had an uncle who would lease a new silver Town Car every 2 years. He liked everything about the Cartier series except he hated the clock, so he would load up a lower trim with every available option. This would cost him a boatload, not to mention he would make other mods outside the dealer, like gold chrome. He usually didn't put more than 8 or 10,000 mi on the car over 2 years and turned them in well under the mileage allowed on the lease. He would spend a lot of time sitting in a lawn chair in his garage, just admiring the car and whenever you came over you had to hear his spiel about how wonderful his car was and God help you if you confused the current One with the last one. One particular year he actually turned one early after only one year because he really wanted the next year's model. It probably would have just made more sense for him to get a Cartier and replace the clock. He had to be a dream customer for the dealer he leased those cars from for around 20 years.
Tony, it is a beautiful car, very nice condition. Perfect for your parents. Just take it to a professional car detailing company & have it all cleaned up & engine compartment steam cleaned. Have the paint all polished up & buffed & put on the chrome on the bottom rocker’s. Will be a gorgeous car, how exciting & fun 😊 So happy for your parents. 26,000 miles very low. 😊
I'm surprised you could find a car that old that is that nice. Well done. And you did it fast too. Very impressive. Have fun in the new one and be on the look out for young crazy drivers.
That is an odd but welcomed package for a base in 89'. Keyless entry and lit key cylinders. I have had a few and if I ever am fortunate to get one more I would like to find one without the digital dash. I believe cloth was actually an option, as well, in 89. Nice find.
What a really nice, good car. The options make me think that whoever ordered it didn't like the Signature Series chrome. I personally Love the chrome and can totally see that black beauty shining with it on. Hopefully the other car is in similar condition.
I think you'll be happy with it. I need to finish up some Dearborn videos before I do a video on the other one. I thought the same thing about whoever ordered it.
Congrats! I've owned both white and black cars before. Black looks beautiful, but by the time you've dusted one side of the car, the other side is dusty again. White hides a lot, but black reveals everything. Nothing beats the beauty of a black car though.
WOW! What a nice car, and only 26,000 miles. This car is surely a keeper. I love those old Lincoln's. I still have my 1976 mercury cougar, I bought brand new in 76.
Right, but my parents would still like to have the chrome added to the bottom. People and dealers were adding it to these cars when they were new because everyone wanted it. These cars are what made adding stick-on chrome to the later Town Cars and even trucks so popular in the 90s.
Nice find. The late 80s are the best TCs. You are very right on the glove box warp. One coat of Nu vinyl on the top will darken the top a bit and add a subtle shine.
Hi Tony. What a good-looking car! I was not surprised to hear you say you thought the standard seats were more comfortable than the SS leather seats. I found with myself a long time ago that I just don't like leather seats. The cloth seats that I have now in my latest Marquis Brougham are by far the most comfortable seats I have ever had in a car. And I have owned a 1989 Signature Series before. Great job with the selection. Now just waiting to see the "other" one.
Lovely car Tony. I would definitely fit the same alloy wire wheels (I know you have some NOS) ala what was on the wrecked car. That would really make it pop with some reasonably wide whitewalls. I like it. 👍
@@tonyscarcare5657 Ha. Just ignore them. With the extra chrome and those beautiful Lincoln alloy wires (I have a set on my 1980 Lincoln MKVI Signature - same metallic red as the one in the brochure) it will look tremendous. I love how much your Mum loves the car too. Very sweet. 👍👍
Beautiful Town Car for mom and dad. I look like it could be used for a limo, being a plain Town Cae with a few up grades on it. As long as mom likes it, that it all that matters.
Hello Mr. Tony - another great video and the car looks even better in person when we saw it in Dearborn with you, Mom, Dad and Charlie. Having your mom, dad & Charlie in the video is great. You can see how much your dad really likes the car and your mom is so cute with her comments. You have a truly wonderful mom and dad. We know that car needs a little work, however, we cannot wait to see what it looks like once your dad details everything. It is nice to see how both of them are so excited about the car. Also, it looks like the fuel mileage was better on the black Lincoln due to using mid-grade fuel? I might try that on my next road trip. Keep up the great work. Roseann & Dan
It’s kind of a miracle to find a Black Lincoln in that good of shape that’s 35 years old, that they don’t want crazy money for, Definitely found a needle in the haystack
It seems Rare to see Base Models still left in wonderful condition. I see mostly the Signatures. I kinda like it without the Chrome on the bottom. It gives it a Different, Kinda unique Look.
They are getting a lot of compliments, but I really like the chrome. I remember them adding at the dealer back then because customers wanted it, and they'd pay for it.
@@patrickburke7929 26,000 miles on an 89 and the overall condition is excellent what a disservice to make it a daily driver. Rack up the millage & wear it out.Car like this should be bought garaged and driven once a month just so it doesn't dry up.
Let me first say By the grace of God I'm glad mom & dad walked away from the accident unscathed. Both of those Town Cars are gorgeous and I wish you the best of luck with them. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that you are not running them on Premium fuel. I've owned 3 over the years. I know that the owners manual says they can run on Regular gas. But they will run better on Premium. The gas mileage speaks volumes. You are so perfection oriented, spend the extra 60 cents a gallon and use Premium. Anyway that's how I feel. Good luck, be safe and enjoy.
@@tonyscarcare5657 HI Tony I'm Carmine. You care for those Town Cars so much I was just surprised. Everything is getting very expensive so I understand saving some money when you can. I just know that those cars don't have knock sensors and I've been told I have a heavy foot. That's why I use Super.
Honestly I have to say that I average 20mpg myself. I now live in NJ and I have a lot of family in NY. So I will take my 89 Town Car on the turnpike to visit. With all the crazys in both states you drive defensively. So I want to make sure that the car can get up and go if needed Lol
My dad had a 1986 he bought for retirement and would not let me drive it but any girl I would bring around for a while he had no problem tossing them the keys 😂😂😂 good ole dad
Beautiful car with ultra low miles. The two cars look good together. It is all personal preference, but I like it without the lower chrome piece. If I were you I'd do whatever your Mom wants...Lol. My cousin in Montgomery AL was a realtor and had a new 88 that looked similar to these. She has a lead foot and max speed between stop signs and maximum braking at all times. She gave the car to her Mom in Oklahoma when it had about 110,000 miles on it. So her Mom, (my aunt) was 85 and drove it until she was about 93 when it had too many things wrong with it. She put an ad and it sold in minutes of the first person buying a Lincoln off of a little old lady. Lol. They had no idea what horrible treatment that car had for the first 100k miles. Lol
Lol! That reminds me of the a Andy Griffith episode when Grandma Walton ripped off Barny with a used car. Mom and dad definitely prefer the chrome. They've never had a base model before, and once you're used to seeing something.
That is a nice find Tony. I didn't think you would find an 89 that nice. You can tell it is a garage queen. I think it is more accurate to average your mileage over several tanks. If you squeeze an extra half gallon in it make all the difference in your numbers. Some pumps cut off sooner than others too. It seems to me that the calculator on the dash is actually pretty accurate.
24:21 look at how beautiful that interior lighting package is!!! must add under seat lighting as well, I bet the wiring is already under the carpet? What a beautiful elegant Town Car!!! just immediately check that throttle valve lever grommet before they burn up that transmission, makes me so nervous until you check it...
Those are awesome cars. Ive got a late 80s grand marquis which i really like as well. Want an 80s tc too but have to sell my 76 continental first. Very little decent made anymore in new vehicles
This one is sharp, I like the look of the wire wheel covers on it compared to the turbines or the other style of wire wheel covers, the 1980-1984 model chrome disk style full wheel covers were really sharp too
Been watching your videos for a while now, seeing how nice the first generation Town Cars are, and it makes me want to save up the money to try to buy my grandparents old 1989 Signature Series off my uncle and fix it up. Hi Tony, nice looking Lincoln, nicely appointed to. It amazes me how much you know about it.

Beautiful car! And 26,000 miles that is great

I am very glad that your parents found a Town Car that they like.
Love it!
Beautiful car I always loved the rear taillights very classy cool vid

Right, but my parents would still like to have the chrome added to the bottom. People and dealers were adding it to these cars when they were new because everyone wanted it. These cars are what made adding stick-on chrome to the later Town Cars and even trucks so popular in the 90s.
Nice find. The late 80s are the best TCs. You are very right on the glove box warp. One coat of Nu vinyl on the top will darken the top a bit and add a subtle shine.
Thank you!
Thanks, Michael! They have always preferred cloth over leather. I could always take it or leave it.
Lovely car Tony. I would definitely fit the same alloy wire wheels (I know you have some NOS) ala what was on the wrecked car. That would really make it pop with some reasonably wide whitewalls. I like it. 👍
Several have already attacked me for adding the chrome to the bottom. 🙄
Very sweet. 👍👍
i love the padded vinyl roof
Beautiful Town Car for mom and dad. I look like it could be used for a limo, being a plain Town Cae with a few up grades on it. As long as mom likes it, that it all that matters.
I’m so happy for your parents Tony😊
Thanks, guys! It was so good seeing you again and getting to play with your 86 Ford truck. The video is coming soon!
It’s kind of a miracle to find a Black Lincoln in that good of shape that’s 35 years old, that they don’t want crazy money for, Definitely found a needle in the haystack
They're very pleased with this one and probably another one. Lol
Congratulations on both new cars im vary happy to see mom an dad's back on the road
@@patrickburke7929 26,000 miles on an 89 and the overall condition is excellent what a disservice to make it a daily driver. Rack up the millage & wear it out.Car like this should be bought garaged and driven once a month just so it doesn't dry up.
Beautiful lincoln town car 😍😍😍
She's a beaut, Clark!
The mid grade fuel was $1.00 more than regular up there.
I've always gotten over 20 mpg with that car. I never speed.
I always loved the look of the eighties Lincolns. I had a 78. I would like to get a 74 Continental.
Nice find. Was not expecting black!
My dad has always loved black vehicles.

Tan interior is nice too. I like beige. New cars don’t have beige inside anymore either.
@42luke93 Well then, I think you'll like the other one they bought.
Very very nice town car Love them cars and I can't think of a better way than to get another one I mean why not
Congrats to Tony's mom & dad!
i love the power pulldown
It's beautiful Tony!!!!!
My dad had a 1986 he bought for retirement and would not let me drive it but any girl I would bring around for a while he had no problem tossing them the keys 😂😂😂 good ole dad
🤣😂🤣😂 of course!
Lol
Lol! That reminds me of the a
Andy Griffith episode when Grandma Walton ripped off Barny with a used car.
Yes, the electronic dash is always very close. We are always checking fuel mileage.
Beautiful car.
I'd say the wiring is there, and I already have some of those lights for under the seats.
love it - great colors
That was a nice car, and I supos that you are going to put on everything you like to hav on it as you like it. I miss the white colour thou.👍👍
Some people don't want me to add things.
I really like the wire wheel covers!
I wish I never sold my mom's white '89 Town Car with tan interior when she passed away.
Been patiently waiting for a update video 😂, we'll maybe 😂, beautiful lincoln
I'm so busy in the shop, I haven't had time. I have more Dearborn videos to get done yet.
@@tonyscarcare5657 I was just kidding with you 😂 glad you are busy still catching up probably
For sure!
