The only thing I hope is that when you need parts that are available and I'm assuming because it's a GM product that they will be but being a Cadillac it could be very specific to the year I just hope it doesn't need a lot of work throughout the years when you're driving around or is it one of these things you're just going to fix up and then get rid of again

This brings back some great memories. I was a junior in high school in Grand Rapids, MI and working at a sewing machine store in town. My boss handed me some cash and told me to get his new 62 Caddy washed. It was just like yours. I called my two runnin buddies and we washed the car in my driveway. We used the cash for gas and took that beast around the local circuit. Popped the hubcaps and air cleaner off and we looked and sounded very cool! The boss never had a clue. Here I am at 79 years of age and I still drive an 80's Eldorado. Thank you so much for the video!!!!!!!!!

We all took the hubcaps off to be cool back then, I took them off my dad’s brand new 64 Chevy at the car wash. Then promptly backed over them. Me and a friend spent the next 4 hours “finding” four new hubcaps. Thankfully chevys were very common at the time!

Nice pick Wiz... I found a 66 Coupe DeVille with 67K back 3 years ago. Estate of original owner, $5745 brand new, light blue up and down and no vinyl top.( No A/C but I will change that). Found a receipt from 67 when he took it to the Cadillac garage for a service. Oil and filter, air cleaner element, grease and clean the car for $12.00 ! Enjoy the content on your channel, great work !!
If that's the car I think it is, It was well-known for being at the Viva Las vegas car shows, as well as Cars and Coffee in SO CAL for a number of years. If it's the car I think it is, that car was very loved by everyone that came to the car shows. Glad it went to a good home.

I got my license in 1976, and at that time, my Dad owned a 1966 Mustang 289 4-speed and a 1959 Cadillac. He worked for the original owner of the Caddy, who covered and parked it in a warehouse he owned for many years. It was a great project that my Dad, Grandfather, and I worked on cleaning and getting it roadworthy. I loved that car, and so did my friends.

I WOULD NOT repaint that entire car!!
What you should do is find a very good body shop, and have them try to paint the hood to match the rest of the car. Get it detailed by experts first, with the exception of the hood. If it is wheeled-out, the oxidation will be removed and a good paint guy could probably make it match to the point of imperceptibility.
Having original paint but with a repainted hood would make the car more valuable down the road.

Up early to make sure it runs, out to the meet, sit and chat with folk, a long cruise afterwards and when back home, 2hrs of polishing bugs off the chrome while the BBQ heats up, then with a beer or 2 with a grilled steak, you admire the car 😁
Fantastic car! I only wish my house had a garage big enough to fit it. LOL! When I was young, and worked at the local food store, each year the owner would throw me the keys to his 1968 4-door Cadillac to take to the garage for service or the yearly state car inspection. Yes, I was only 17-18 years old at that time. I drove it like I was leading a parade, making sure to pass by my friends and careful to return the car without a scratch. Growing up poor, at least for a while driving this car, I felt like a king. This started my love of cars.

@@wills2140 LOL! My 1950's era small "starter" home, 1100 sq ft, can't fit the Wizard's Cadillac, either. I own a 2020 V90 estate wagon and when I drive it in my garage, there's only about 5 to 6 inches of clearance on either side of my car. When I get older, my guess is I'll just leave it in the driveway.
When I was a little boy, my family was in the funeral business, my dad took us to school in one every day. I would sit behind the wheel and just marvel at the controls and interior, truly the standard of the world then
63’ sedan Deville one of many several vintage cars I grew up riding in. My dad paid 200.00 dollars for his 63’ in 1969. Mint car and beautiful ride. My mom’s 49’ cad ragtop was pretty nice as well. The folks paid literally nothing for both those vehicles. I grew up rather poor but we had two used low priced Cadillacs at home.
Good thing you’re out in the Midwest. If you parked that boat in Rhode Island part of it would be hanging out in Connecticut.
My first car was a Blue 62 VW. In 67 I was in a band and we thought we were something back then and so we all went out and bought rock star cars except for one thing, we weren't rock stars lol! So mine was a 63, beautiful, 4 year old black Cadillac with the crest on the back panel that supported the top. We thought we were something lol again. I think I was 22 at the time. It wasn't long before I learned that if you can't write a check for a new one, you can't afford to drive a Cadillac. Cost a fortune to run that thing and keep it up. But it was sure nice and fun for a while anyway until reality set in. But I learned some good lessons in the process. I wish I had it today but alas, it got traded in for a more affordable ride after driving it for about 4 years. But what a gorgeous car it was!!

I love 60s Caddies! I had a '69 Superior Sovereign funeral coach. It had that GLORIOUS 10.5:1 compression 472. That engine was a torque MONSTER!
The only work I did to it was to replace the useless T-Quad carb for a 750 cfm Edelbrock.
My neighbor had one and would regularly wax it with Vaseline

I think you done great. It's a beautiful car. I have a 1959 Cadillac 2dr. Coupe De Ville. The one thing I hate about my 59 is to remove the dash you must take the gauges, the speedometer, out at the same time you remove the dash panel. It is so heavy, and removing the steering wheel does help some. The second thing I don't like on a 59 is it has a remote oil filter sitting on top of the intake manifold. Your car has an screw on oil filter on the side of the engine. Much better. Have fun with your Cadillac!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
My old man had a 64 teal and white ragtop.
Then got an olive green 72 coupe deville.
My old man worked at Gm for 29 years.
Then for shits and giggles He got himself a 500ci engine for the 64 and threw a blower on it and raced it at the local track.
It was a pig but it moved pretty quick with that blown 500 ci.
To keep the tradition alive, I got a black on black fwd 1989 Coupe Deville with the horrendous 4.5 ltre.
I drove it till the engine tanked.
I love these old rides.
Plenty of space in the engine bay to get in there and tool around.
As my old man used to say, "If you can't afford the gas, don't get a Cadillac".

My Dad had a 63 coup deville, Most comfortable trip we had was in that car. Had more cargo room than my yukon! Seriously trunkroom for days, and built like a tank!
Why repaint it? The hood i agree, but the rest looks ok, Good polish and coat while keeping the original petina would be really nice in my opinion
I hope he shows what can be done to save something like that in a short space of time. 1 hour or one day to save the paintwork even if he is going to repaint anyway.
When I was a 5/7 year old, my mom had a 59 eldorado convertible, white with red leather, ohhhh the memories...
My father had a 1963 Coupe de Ville in one of the metallic, "Fire Mist" shades with a cloth interior. That Cadillac had acres of interior space and the largest trunk I've ever seen.
I had a '74 Sedan De Elegance that you could have put a SmartCar in the trunk & had room left over for 10 bag of groceries.
That is nice. You get a 10 out of 10 from me. I had an uncle that lived in El Paso, TX that had one of these. So much room inside and it was smooth as silk on the road. I used to get motion sickness, and it was the only car I never got sick in.
Going by my memory, I believe the standard whitewall on a '63 Caddy was 1.25 inches wide. Having said that, these wider whitewalls gives the car a more gangster look rather than a business/professional owner look.
By '63 wide white walls were a thing of the past. This car would look much nicer with the narrower white walls.

My 1962 Sedan de Ville had the proper size WSWs and looked astonishing in its teal paint and matching brocaded bench seats with a little badge on the passenger side seat that proclaimed.

I also loved the lower skeg/fin that mirrored the upper fin on the rear fenders. It disappeared by 1963.

I believe you are correct. I think the change-over year was 1961. In fact it was something of a mid-year switch. I believe you'll find some of the sales literature for a number of makes was revised during the year with updated photos of the cars reflecting the change when the narrower whites were introduced.
My grandmothers sister bought a new caddy every year. They are great cars - like driving a couch. That was back in the days of free-range children, so we’d fight over who could lay down in the back window. Btw. My family called the “triangle winDow” a “flare glass”
In the UK we always refer to those little triangle windows as 'quarter lights'.

In December '66 I was home after basic training & my '60 merc needed an oil change & lube. It was cold in Detroit then, so I treated myself & took it to a gas station. This is back when gas stations did all types of repairs. The station attendant offered to use his car while mine was being worked on. It was a '63 Caddy convertible, all black just like this one. What an automobile. There are cars & there are automobiles. It was spotless, vault quiet & rode like a dream. From that day on, I promised myself that when I made it I would own a Cadillac. I've kept that promise for the last 40 years & never regretted it.
Neighbor had 64. Caddy up until 1991. Drive it after her death it was awesome 😊
@@user-ht1xu4gv2u I now have a 2010 Loaded Performance pkg CTS with 130K with no issues. It looks just as good as when I bought it over 12 years ago.
Make sure to inspect the bearings on the oil pump. If they get out of spec, the wobbly steel pump will eat away at the aluminum water pump /oil pump / timing cover. Good Luck. I love the 2nd to 3rd shift of the hydromatric.
There's no aluminum anything on that car. And oil pumps don't have bearings you clown!
Same year I like too. Also the late 60's Eldorado with the pop-up lights. Having the fuel filler behind the number plate was so handy. Had a 1987 Fairmont and I could pull up to any side of a pump and didn't have to think about it. Only thing was I had to pull a bit forward which sometimes made it tight for cars passing the front. It's such a good idea and a shame they stopped doing that.

My Dad always had a coupe when I was a kid into my early 20's. He had a 'yellow '59 a black '61 with white leather and his last Cad was a '65 coupe. He also bought a '59 Impala convert new and in mid '70's he got a new '76 Caprice Classic. He was a GM man for sure.
Great car. My father had a 1958 Eldorado Brougham, and his brother had a 1963 Coupe Deville Convertible in white. I had a 1976 Coupe Deville. I love old Caddies. 1967 is also my favorite. I love the double stacked headlights.
There exists an evocative photo, of Jimi Hendrix, casually leaning against a 1967 Caddie limo, in front of the Beverly Hills Hotel. The photo says so much about the wonderful excesses of that fabulous era! I miss Jimi, and those cars!

Absolutely a sweet Cadillac. I've had a half a dozen of them myself and that is a very clean car. I do hate it when people say those bumper jacks are death traps. People use them successfully for decades without hurting themselves
Most bumper jacks worked OK. Its those odd ball incidents that got people hurt.

You didn't mention the reason for the gas filler behind the license plate was because it didn't matter which side of the gas pump you arrived at. You could fill it up anyway.

In the early 80's, my father purchased a 1964 Coupe DeVille convertible. It only had 5,000 original miles, Royal Maroon Iridescent exterior, I think light tan interior. It had a dimple damage right in the middle of the rear bumper, but it had a new OEM bumper in that massive trunk, still in the box.
He sold it a few years later, but it was a beautiful car, went to a collector out in Maryland. Anyway nice new toy Wizard, enjoy.

It's beautiful, David! I love all the Caddies from '59 to '63, but I am especially partial to the '61 rear bubble window CdV. The front end of the '63 is more attractive, though. Don't know what you paid for this example but I'm sure it was a lot to get this level of condition. Nice find!
I'd put a fan shroud on it for sure. I think I would upgrade to a Vintage Air system for the A/C. That would get rid of the under dash box. A good repaint will cost $7,000-10,000 to do correctly. No Maaco special for this car.
That's a cheap one 😂😂 a great paint job for that car easily close to what he paid for it 😂😂 20k or more. That's a LOT of sqft and removing/covering all the chrome and doing it RIGHT there's 3-4 days of prep, 3-4 days of painting and then 3-4 days inspecting and reassembling/buffing the chrome. Id expect 20-25k for a good 3-4 layers of paint and 4+ layers of clear. Make sure that paint shines more than the chrome 😂😂😂
Those under dash a/c units blew ice cold. Put one in my 67 Cutlass. Back seat passenger's asked to turn it down!
From the sanding on the hood it looks like a pretty thick coat. So other than the hood I think the rest of the paint could be saved.
What a great find. The desert climate of Las Vegas preserved it pretty well (no rust). I'd say "it is a keeper" even if you had to put a lot of mechanical work into it, since to find a body and frame without rust is the big thing, other things can be replaced.

It literally was like riding around on a comfy couch.
I was pretty young then but was really into cars and even then I really loved and appreciated that car. It felt like true luxury.

The Caddy should have a exhaust resonater at the tailend along with the muffler. Great car Wizard now you have to get fittet with a fedora.

Wizard asked us what we think of his Caddy! Wizard ALWAYS gets nice cars but this one takes the cake for me. I saw the thumbnail for this video, started watching it and was smiling all the way through it! I love this car! Now the Wizard will be driving in complete style! There is only one issue I have, I'm jealous that I don't own this car! :-)

I’m tech in school to be an automotive technician, the wizard has been such a big help for me. Such double cardon u-joints the hydro-matic transmission all things we learn in our text book but never really get to see them visually.

Growing up I was captivated by cars, thanks mainly in part to my late Father. He was a tech nerd with a love of muscle cars, and his '69 GTO. I came into the picture in '84, and in 3 years after my emergence into this wild world, came my mother's 1987 Cadillac Brougham (Silver/Blue). It was the first car I'd learn to "drive". Since childhood I'd grow quite fond of Cadillac. My favorite year, 1959. GIve me a sedan De Ville, Red, white interior.

That thing is really long. They called them land yachts for good reason. I once drove my boss's Toronado in the '70s and it looked like the hood went on forever, especially compared to my compact car.
No dual exhaust to be fitted, thanks for keeping it as stock, will look great with refinished paint, a keeper perhaps? One of the best disguised fuel filler caps was on my grandfathers 1957 Chev, it was in the family from new till 1985, he got too old to handle the big heavy car.
Amazing find, a truly honest car. stainless bright work inside looked in exceptional condition . underneath looked incredible for a 61 year old vehicle. Learned something new had no idea those came with 4 speed automatic transmissions. Full white wall tires look right. Enjoy fixing it, and enjoy driving it. Detroit thanks you we just don't build them like that anymore those cars had character and a soul that will never be duplicated. To own anything of that era is the only way to experience that.
The architecture of those old 4 speed Hydramatic autos is a bit different from the more modern ones of the 80’s-90’s. They’re quite long, and they don’t shift smoothly unless their hydraulics are perfectly adjusted. The newer 3-speed Hydramatic architecture was more compact, more reliable, had super smooth shifts, and a newly developed torque converter made up for the performance lost by having one fewer gear ratio.
@@Thegonagle The Hydra-matic's fluid coupling was a serious deficiency when compared to an auto fitted with a torque convertor. Chrysler's TorqueFlite auto introduced in the mid 1950s was uber smooth and incorporated a torque converter - needless to say a revelation back in the day.

I'm now 74. I can remember back in the day watching a guy with that type of gas filler behind the license plate, filling it up while he held a lit cigarette between his lips! I could just visualize the fumes pushing out of that tank as it was filling up. It was a Darwin moment about to explode! Luckily for him, it didn't. Watch out for the walking brain donors.
You should also ask the viewers to make up stories about the car for you. That would be so much fun!

It would sure be interesting, to hear what Wizard paid for that lovely boat!...Quite a bit, I would guess. Worth it for him, as he can fix the several things going bad on the car, saving labor costs. I would guess, that fixing those problems mentioned would cost an average owner maybe $3-4 Grand. That is the downside for most folks wanting to buy an older car--making such cars fit again, can cost as much as what one might pay for the car itself!

um, all those Haynes manuals and the UA-cam call them panels cards. They Their plastic clips are a joy to navigate.

We called them "wind wings" in California.
In 1977 I purchased a 1963 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special 4 door in Montana with 100,000 miles when I was 19. The owner's mother wanted to get it out of the yard. We told her we would give her $35 if we could get it started. Had a bad starter. We took the armature out of a blown 1968 Oldsmobile Delmont 330(?) (Delmont model was only in 1967-68). Cut the end off to length and installed. It started right up. Ran well but had some front fender rust. Replaced them and it looked much better. It had 8 power windows. Two front vents, four door, and two rear vents in rear doors. Driver's door wiring was a nightmare. All those window wires and the ones for the power seat. Like Wizard's, it was a hardtop. Had rear wood veneer trim, automatic dimmer, cruise control, A/C, vacuum trunk release, power seat, horrible vinyl roof and auto tuning radio. They all worked after a fashion. While in a storage lot, kids shot out windshield and side windows. Snow and rain came in and destroyed the wood trim. Since it was a Fleetwood 60 special it had a higher roof line than standard Coupe. That keep it parked for a while until we found ones that fit. Since I was moving out of state, I gave it to a friend who thought he might get it fixed up. Never happened and was finally sold for scrap in the 1980s. What a waste. It was a nice traveling and cruising car. Always plenty of room for six and sometimes more. And all the luggage or junk you wanted to carry in the trunk. Wizard's 1963 brings back good memories. And some sad memories that I could not keep it.

Everyone deserves a land yacht! It's a great looking car with minor repairs needed, and unlike today's cars, you can actually climb into the engine bay to work on the engine. The transmission is the same as was used on the SMP 1952/1956 GMC Pattern 2 1/2 ton trucks.

I stopped at a gas station a few blocks away to fill it up for the drive home but didn't see a filler door. I tried behind the license plate - nope. Drove back to the seller's place and he laughed as he lifted the left tail light assembly to show me the gas cap!

Nice find, the paint isn't a problem since the body is so straight and the interior needs some cleaning if that. Most of the work outside a repaint is pretty straighforward stuff, shocks today are so much better then those, the exhaust is nothing, oil leaks are the only thing and you have a shop and lifts, so that'll be a couple afternoons of work. Then you'll have one of the finest cars of the time, from a period when American luxury cars were the finest in the world. That interior is so perfect, just unbelievable.
When I worked at an auto machine shop (Slauson Auto Parts all the way!) back in the late sixties, it was rare for a Cadillac 390 in for head work (resurface, valve job, etc.) particularly if there had been cooling system issues, to Not have cracks between the valve seats. So good luck (but you did very well indeed to purchase this beauty).

Nice buy. I would put on a Sniper EFI and at least front disc brakes if not all 4. And I would definitely steam clean the underneath. ❤

Magnificent score Wizard ! A 1963 Cadillac Coupe De Ville in such great condition is a rare bird. My Uncle Roland had a beautiful 1959 Sedan De Ville four door hardtop with wrap around rear window and rear roof overhang. I can still remember riding in the back of that big Caddy - a car so long it barely fit in his garage. My Aunt had to make do with a 1957 Chevy Bel Air two door sedan as her daily driver. What great cars we used to build back in the day !

28 year old from Toronto here. First of all, love your videos, and I love older Buicks just like you. I recently bought a 2009 Buick allure (LaCrosse), my first car here in Canada. 75k miles driven, driven by an old lady who basically babied the car (carfax was clean with service records every 3.5k miles), not a single scratch anywhere. I saw your video about the lacrosse and the junk 3.6 L engine, and I was sceptical. When I popped the hood, to my surprise, it was a 3.8L V6, the engine you love! I asked whether it got an engine replacement or something, she said no, and the VIN number also indicates it is the factory engine. I started searching, and realized the allure/lacrosse till 2009 did actually come with the 3.8L V6, but only on the base (CX) model, which this one was. I immediately finalized the deal. Paid $5k including taxes, which I know maybe on the higher side, but I wasn’t willing to let go of such a well maintained car (really, can probably sell as new after some detailing).
Took it to a mechanic right after purchase for a full inspection, and I also told them to change the oil, coolant and spark plugs. They called me after two hours and said they changed the oil, but it really doesn’t need new spark plugs or coolant, those were changed recently. I’ve been driving it for 3 months now, mostly doing long weekend gateway trips, and I can’t be happier!
Thought of sharing the story, since in one of the videos you mentioned the allure/lacrosse 2005-2009 came with the 3.6L and that’s one of the reasons you hated it, and it is true, but only for the higher model (CXL). The base CX model was still coming with the 3.8L V6 (3800 Series III). Probably one of the last cars to come with that engine. They switched to the 3.6L V6 from the 2010 models.

From Australia. What a rare find. I remember the local up market department store manager had one of these in a gold metallic colour, absolutely spectacular looking car. I would have been 10 years old at the time, I can still remember the car gliding past me. It would have been a very rare car here back in the day.
Gliding is the right word, the ride on these really is exceptional. Sure, you might have heard that potholes are a thing that exist in the world somewhere, but they are of no concern to you inside the Cadillac

Dont repaint it! There are lots of repainted cars out there. But genuine survivors are getting pretty rare.
