Any time I'm stumped on what to do with something (this time black cod), I always search your catalog first and I'm never let down! I really needed this one thanks!!
This was the Best Black Cod recipe ever! Black cod is my new favorite fish. This recipe was so easy and delicious! I had everything except fresh ginger, so I substituted 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger and it tasted great! Even the kids gobbled it all up. Definitely keeping this in the rotation. Glad I found your channel! Can’t wait to try out your other recipes. Thank you!
I’m so happy that I found you and your channel. Man, thank you for sharing this. I love what you do. You make my life much better. Keep doing this and God bless!
I just made this black cod recipe... absolutely fantastic!!! I used a thicker cut of black cod so cooked it a bit longer...used the leftover sauce for some spicy tofu or over rice.. thank you!!
Your sauce is money. Did this to cod. I needed more ginger. Got the right blend and it’s crazy good on scallops. On skewered chicken. On Asian salad mix. On pan fried noodles with shrimp. Crazy. Thank you.
I'm a Realtor that sees a lot of homes and your kitchen is so cool, unique and functional. I love the exposed plates and I am going to copy you in my kitchen and cook this meal!
Ok, Sam says this may be the best fish he has ever had. I can’t agree more!!! It was quick, easy, and fantastic! It took me longer to make the fried rice than it did to make the fish. I’m pretty sure I spent more time picking out the piece of fish, than the time it took me to prepare it!!! Sam you rock-
This is a fantastic recipe! Sablefish is very forgiving and doesn’t dry out when cooked a tad longer than salmon, regular cod or haddock. Again, great recipe. I get my fish from Sitka Salmon Shares.
Sam, I’m following your recipes for a long time now. You never failed me. This Black Cod was the best fish I’ve ever tried. Thank you for sharing your skills with us. Best wishes from Hawaii! ❤👍🌴
Loved it! I often make Nobu’s version, but needed a black cod recipe that would work for tonight. Saw yours, made it….and it was FABULOUS! Everyone loved it! Thanks!
I don’t know how long I should put or under what temp settings. Broil so it’s 500f? It’s an amazing recipe but wish you could make it more clear so we can follow.
He puts it in there for 4 minutes, then another two or three. If you have a broiling function in your oven (only top heat) and you get 500F it should be around 5 minutes, then another 3. Just watch it turn good, it goes so fast you can follow it. Great for serving "a la minute"
Saw Black Cod at Costco but needed to find out what to do with it. Now I know and will grab some next visit. Sounds like I will have to try on salmon and those scallops, too!
That was supposed to be a teaspoon of Ginger after the sake. Not garlic. This was a mistake, don’t add a teaspoon of garlic and then a clove of fresh garlic lol
I just made this the other day and it came out exactly as Sam said it would! So bomb! Ate with a bit of fried rice and broccoli and made for a delicious dinner
Hey Justin, Here is our recipe of black cod, if you would like to have a look: ua-cam.com/video/i6AxIIZKRMY/v-deo.html Your support and appreciation would mean a lot.
Great recipe the sauce is tasty and fantastic. I will try this for cooking fish on a cedar plank. I did not the broiling temperature for the black cod. Thanks!!
Your recipe is incredible. We love it and I’m actually making it again tonight. I’m making the marinade as I’m making the text. Have a good one. Thank you. 4:41
I was looking for a cod and scallop's recipe coz that gonna be our dinner for tonight and your video is amazing so I'm going to try these recipes (cod and scallop). Thank you Sam!.

So good, I bought sablefish on my mongers recommendation, didn’t k ow what to do with it and couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to try on scallops too! 🤤
Omg!!! That was so good,,but I used salmon,,,and I didn't have sake,,so I used the ginger beer left over from your amazing mule drink recipe..cheers !!!😝
oh man my family just wild caught some of these sable fish and I grilled it with garlic butter OMG my fish of choice, I will be doing this recipe next and cant wait!
I went to the Gro store this morning and got a small bottle of sake. I’ve pre-made the sauce and tasted it....OMG, this is going to taste good tonight on the broiled cod.
Just came in from a long line trip yesterday of 24,000 lbs black cod, and 7000 lbs halibut . Thanks for this intriguing recipe. How about a smoked black cod recipe??? Any ideas would be appreciated. Bon appetite
Just got back from fishing in Alaska and I'm going to try this reciepe with Halibut - it sounds and looks great! Did you leave the skin on or remove it. For Halibut it seems like I should remove the skin.
I fish the Bering sea for 4 1/2 years and by far black Cod fresh is amazing eating it raw or eating it with Brown sugar soy sauce and Ginger Is absolutely amazing but the best part of the fish is the collar
I wish I could make you my take on ceviche. I think I’m gonna try it with some Black Cod but I can’t buy any in my part of AZ because my town is practically non-existent.
He said "broil". Usually your oven should have a broil feature, meaning it turns on the top heating element full blast, look for a zig-zag-line at the top of a square box. The fish will take only about 4 minutes, then bask it again with the sauce, and put in there another 3 minutes. Really fast, really good.
just found this recipe, we're having a traditional seafood fest on Dec. 23 and we have some lovely black cod to contribute! I don't have Sake though, what can I substitute it with?
Yes Sam, the best video I have seen you do. I like it because, although you are fun to watch, I find the interactions with your crew a bit weird and unnecessary especially the comments can be offensive...This video was not like that and I can't wait to see the next one because I learn something each time and your tips are helpful.
I’ve done the Nobu recipe many times now and love it. Plus it is really easy. Tried this tonight for something different. My thoughts: There are actually 6 ingredients in addition to fish. Made exactly as noted, the glaze was so salty I threw it out. Has to be from reducing soy sauce so much. Remade it with less than half the soy and was much better. Added a little mirin since it’s in the Nobu recipe. All told it came out very tasty. Definitely not the same as the miso glaze but quite good!
Always cook by temperature not time,145* internal for fish. There is always a line of bones in this fish, folks don't try to remove them until after it`s cooked.

Best food channel on the internet . Very underrated.

5-7 min at 500.

I agree,
Going to try this with the ling cod we just caught off the Campbell River coast in BC

How long did you leave it in the broiler?
Until it flakes, or just stick it with your temperature probe.
Trying this dish this week with friends

Good point on farm raised fish
I wish I could make you my take on ceviche.

YUM! Is there a good side dish you recommend to pair with this?
if only this recipe got that crispy black cod skin thats so delicious
Love fish! Looks wonderful!

yes, you cant remove bones from black cod like you can from salmon until after cooking
Sam I NEED to know who designed your kitchen. I absolutely love it!
Just tried this ✨💖💞💫💝 It was a big hit🤩😍 Thank you 😊
This recipe is off the chain just change out the two applications of garlic to 1 garlic 1 ginger👍🏻
LOVE this channel
Could you cook the on the flat top blackstone griddle? Or will I be wasting my time?
I'll be trying my hand at making this recipe.
How long you broil it?
Didn't have any sake, so I opted for some Weisers instead, soooo good
What can I substitute for sake?
I've made this a few times now . It is yummy!
Can i use this recipe on regular cod?
How long should you cook this for and at what temperature?
As he says and shows in the recipe: Broiler, 4” below heating element, and 4 minutes, baste, then 4 more minutes, watching
We need Sam to do more fish recipes
made this tonight. Now I am famous in my neighborhood
I'd love to see some good recipes for trout!
Delicious. My menu tonight.
Farmed?? We only have wild from Canada or Alaska. I work for a major distributor in Oregon
do you treat fish the same as meat. bring it out to roomtemp etc before cooking it?
Thanks Sam. This one looks good. About to try it out!
Is broil instead of bake one of the key method? What's the difference between 2 garlic?
Is the fish fresh or previously frozen? Does it make a difference?
i dont know why that would make any difference honestly
Thanks for that video, as a kitchen idiot , I just made a perfect sable fish for the family.
Why did you put mined garlic and then put on fresh clove pressed after why not use all fresh pressed garlic?
minced ginger**
