I know it's unbelievable how corrupted and blind the world is today. Prove a point and people are at you gaslighting. It's ashame people can't take the truth these days
I still have Xbox 360 and think Original Xbox was a great console but the damage Microsoft and Xbox have done to gaming is becoming more visible by age. DLC's, "graphics over gameplay" and death of Console Exclusive games is largely their fault. Modern gaming mostly lives off hype and low standards, barely any innovation, just same cookie-cutter games. Hence with so many Remakes/Remaster now days. These are dark days for gaming. Extremely soulless.
We are definitely in the dark days. I don't know what's happening with Activision but I hope it won't go through. It'd do us all good because we'd still have the choice of Xbox or playstation. But on the other hand if it does go through, the dark days are a lot darker for us playstation fans and maybe Nintendo.
@@sh0ker Ugh, they suck how? It's a business practice to keep their hardware alive and active. Otherwise Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Sega and the like would've fallen apart before they even had a chance to have lifespans
Redfall was in development prior to Microsoft buying Zenimax and was forced upon Arkane by Zenimax to chase the GAAS train at the time. Arkane Austin wanted Microsoft to cancel the project but was just given money and more time to finish it and push it out so I can't really fully blame MS on that one.
Banger video man. Loved it. Me and a friend constantly question Microsoft business decisions with the xbox brand but I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole was.
Tbh, I left some stuff out! xD and especially as I coincidentally spoke to an ex Xbox employee only yesterday when it was too late to add more. He's gonna watch the video but seemed in agreement with the sentiment.

Windows also ruined gaming for Linux users, according to the Halloween documents, Microsoft tried to end the open-source scene by monopolizing APIs and means of coding. This is not a conspiracy theory, these are actual documents confirmed to be true by Microsoft itself
Linux users ruined games for Linux users in the early 2000's by buying Windows versions of big games on launch instead of waiting a little bit for the Loki ports. After we let Loki starve to death, things stagnated for about 10 years with LGP and their meager offering and some pity ports by id Software, Epic, and friends. Things only turned around when we got lucky with the original Humble Bundle marketing stunt bringing us some fresh indy games and then Windows 8's new Microsoft Store scaring the heck out Valve.

as someone who got an xbox S's last year, and feel it's a mistake been done, especially with the last subject, that MS, trying to became the "gaming giant" by acquiring outdated companies with titles which once used to be considered something, I agree with every word, and have to thank you for this video.
I gave up on modern gaming during the Xbox 360 and PS3 era because of all the nonsense that started to happened. There are more than enough PS1 and PS2 games to last my lifetime and they will always be playable in the future.
I remember getting an original Xbox for Xmas back in 2002. It was a new and exciting games console at the time, with great exclusives like Halo: Combat Evolved, Project Gotham Racing, Dead Or Alive 3, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding, Rallisport Challenge, Morrowind, MechAssault, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Splinter Cell (Before it got ported to the other consoles obviously, but it was superior on Xbox).....over time though, that initial buzz died for me and the games became more formulaic and paint by numbers (typically of the FPS and sports variety) and there were increasingly fewer innovative and fun games imo. I remember thinking The original Xbox was gonna be the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast (as many others did). Sadly, that ended up not being the case (The Sega Dreamcast remains one of the most innovative, creative, and fun consoles ever made and one of my favourite consoles ever). Never bothered with the 360 or any other Xbox (I still remember the ridiculous prices that places charged for 360's when they first came out over here and were in short supply, and all that 'Red Ring Of Death' shite. That was enough to put me off ever buying another Xbox lol).
Man thank you for explaining the truth! I myself quit XBOX because of that exact reason. I don't hate anything in this case, but I agree with everything that you said. If you look at Nintendo, they try to make games just like PS does. Microsoft is just trying to sell people a subscription and acquiring companies without producing a single game. Phil really needs to chill because he has been making terrible decisions with the Xbox.
@TheMahayanist no, I'm claiming playstation did. They don't anymore. Their exclusive games however are, for the most part, good. Whereas Xbox studios seem incompetent and the games are jank.
I don't really think either have games, especially when compared to the banger first years of PS1 and PS2! Naughty Dog put out a game almost every single year for PS1's lifetime. As did Core Design with Tomb Raider. Psygnosis brought us two Wipeout games in the first year, and EA published 25 games, of which most of them are better quality than their output today.
I've never liked it when factual, well researched videos like this get overshadowed by the "XBoners" who just can't accept that their golden child console is plagued with problems, lack of appealing titles, and mandatory Denuvo on storage and the dreaded "Do you own this game?" No, Microsoft continues it's "We want to be everything to everyone" instead of just making great titles everyone used to really enjoy. I doubt anyone can gauge the climate at Microsoft, but if any of its first quarter earnings are any indication of it, Microsoft is lagging behind by quite a bit. Dividing the companies didn't help as now the XBOX franchise is now XBOX Studios. They try to differentiate themselves from their parent company Microsoft. Everyone thought Phil Spencer, supposedly an avid gamer himself, would steer the ship in a more progressive, gamer friendly ecosystem. Sadly? He is simply another yes man, not much different from Don Mattrick and his infamous announcement of XBOX One. And while Phil Spencer at XBOX is steering the ship, it's like the Titanic looking for an iceberg to strike and sink the ship. The messages from camp XBOX are both confusing, and seem to be devoid of anything that would give fans something to justify the expense of modern gaming. First, we are now told that XBOX Live will be going by September and replaced with "GamePass Core". And while the idea of 25 games to enjoy a month seems enticing, experience has shown that Microsoft doesn't put out the best games for it, and now with GamePass in the title, it will also be subject to price hikes just like the main GamePass Service. Second, there are no true Series X games that take advantage of it's power and speed. Microsoft keeps insisting that all created games be both S/X compatible and publishers are having difficulty programming for "The potato" so what justifies the $500 plus price tag? So many other problems but this is too big as it is. And for the record? I own the entire XBOX game console collection (Classic/360/One S/X/Series S/X) and I also have the Sony collection (PS1/2/PSP/3/Vita/4/5) and frankly? Both are fine consoles and any one of the new consoles (Series S/X PS5) will give you great experiences. And again, great video!!! Spot on analysis.
Thank you! I found the recent Death of a Game video on Halo Infinite to be very interesting and you probably will too. The guy mentions about 343 studio higher ups essentially just being untouchable Microsoft execs who didn't really know or care about Halo but were given their positions by default. Meanwhile the team had little creative control over Halo despite putting up a front that each new game was a success. We all know that's not the case however. Nobody likes the direction Halo has taken.
@@TheRetroPerspective Wholehearted agree!! 343 Studios has always admitted they hated HALO. One of the greatest franchises in gaming, and it is entrusted to a studio that couldn't care less. They did the same to Rare and they went from beloved publisher, to designing games for "gulp" Kinect!!! When bean counters dictate games, all you get is garbage, not experiences.
On point 👉 👈 and Microsoft is clearly focusing on gamepass!! They will buy out major studios and in the near future charge a subscription.. similar to Netflix
Microsoft is indeed ruining gaming. They have way more money to throw around than Sony. Xbox is but a very small segment of their corporation; half of Sony's company revenue is generated from it's gaming console segment. Microsoft has had 3 successful exclusive franchises (Halo, Gears, Forza) in nearly a quarter century. Forza is still great, but Halo and Gears have gone downhill. It seems that since Microsoft can't seem to develop quality exclusives in house, they've decided to overpay all the top publishers for exclusivity rights in an attempt to strip Sony of everything except their first party exclusives.
People forget it. Xbox try the Xbox one always again and it’s partially working. Gamepass is great no doubt but don’t treat physical user shit. Ownership is important and we need to fight for it.
I hate that company mainly because they created the whole online multiplayer paywall crap on consoles which Sony and Nintendo followed suit on that trend years later. It's sucks that there aren't enough gamers especially not enough big content creators in the gaming community speaking up against the online multiplayer paywall. It sucks that some gamers defend the online multiplayer paywall crap. I stop supporting PS Plus because of the stupid online multiplayer paywall crap and i haven't had PS Plus since August 2016. As long as Sony continues to charge people to play online' i will not ever again renew my PS Plus subscription. Also, i vowed that if Sony doesn't entirely remove the online multiplayer paywall crap by the time the PS6 comes out' i will skip the PS6 and am usually a man of my word. I hope Microsoft does leave the gaming division or at least the gaming console business and i hope a much better console gaming company someday arises to rival Sony as long as they don't do the online multiplayer paywall crap too. If Microsoft/the Xbox brand indeed ruined gaming' i wouldn't be surprised.
One thing Microsoft gained alot of respect from me for was their push for backwards compatability which worked with the disks, but they stopped part way though so you still need to keep old systems out, which having less systems hooked up is the main reason I want backwards compatability and so it was made pointless for me when they decided they wasn't going to finish. They don't need to worry about liances for them to emulate and play off the disks and the Series X should be poweful enough to not need to rely on any downloads for it to work.
Sony has annoyed me in this regard too. Used to save a lot of hassle just having each console be backwards compatible but now it's easier to just emulate. Even if I have the physical discs in my collection!
ps3 is the reason why backwards compatibility isn't mandatory for Sony. Heard it was too complicated. But that could be a corporate excuse. I do know ps2 can play ps1 games and ps5 can play ps4 games. Some ps3 systems can play ps 1 and 2 but not all. So in theory ps3 messed up backwards compatibility
@@freeweights101 It's because they had to include extra hardware inside the PS3 for the PS2 games. PS5 is easily powerful enough to emulate the PS2. The PS5 can not play audio CDs but it does play DVD movies and so that means it includes a red laser and so it should be able to read CDs and DVD based games if they ever wanted it to enable it.
Yeah but where's the new first party games at I didn't buy a series x just to play my old catalog better thanks that you did that I appreciate it but where are the quality first party exclusives at yeah no where Xbox gamepass is pure mediocrity look at how shiiit redfall is Xbox has been dead

I miss those days. I hate how Phil Spencer is killing Xbox for Gamepass. Sony isn’t perfect but damn it they seem to care about gaming!
As an American let me say I think its better to work together but lets face it.....everyone cuts out competition where they can. There would be no Playstation had Sega and Nintendo did not and to be honest I am sure glad they did 😂 They created the best gaming platform known to man!!! 🥰

@@jontukagam3888 Yes this is true, Sony wanted to get into gaming as early as the early 80s, but didn't exactly have the know how or industry roots yet, and dove into the MSX as its first dive, which kinda failed, then in the late 80s got closer to Nintendo.
I’m done with Xbox, there’s little baby’s texting me the n word and shit and I call them a piece of shit and I get banned for a month. I pay 15 bucks every month out of my own pocket just to have a 10 year old sped report me for calling him “a bad name” the report said. Back to pc it is.
Are you forgetting that it was Sega that kickstarted the whole console wars based on processing power? The whole blast processing bs. Xbox was simply following that strategy seeing how it worked well for Sega when it was an underdog doing against Nintendo.
Im terrified for if/when the ABK deal goes through it will set a precedent for other large organizations to finish buying up whats left of gaming publishers/IP etc. then we all know where gaming is going from there.... downhill. renting games from gamepass for the rest of eternity, shit "AAA" games, cloud services, and everything else we don't want gaming to become.
I'm trying to work out what the pro-microsoft-as-netflix-for-games people think the equivalent of Netflix cancelling a show will be for Microsoft. Layoffs and studio disbandment I'm guessing.
Good video. Though you could have mentioned that a lot of the bad trends in gaming, like subscriptions and paying for online multiplayer and microtransactions were all popularized and promoted by Microsoft. Microsoft is also one of the few companies that doesn't put the entire game on their physical media which is part of their concerted effort to kill physical media and the second hand game market.
The video could have probably been hours long but I think I said the main things I wanted. Might mention this as an aside when I do my sony video though as they were not far behind.
You make some valid points, but it's worth mentioning that Microsoft was far from the first company to escalate marketing and perpetuate the "console wars." The Sega-Nintendo rivalry of the early 90s was intense, with Sega's marketing directly challenging Nintendo and its products. They were absolutely trying to outdo one another, and the 1990s console release schedule served as the predecessor to the 5-6 year console lifespan we have today. This only intensified when Sony came onto the scene, and all three companies were competing to eclipse each other in terms of performance and horsepower. Microsoft is not unique in this respect.
This direct marketing comparing consoles specs started with Intellivision against the Atari 2600, however that was one sided since Atari ignored these ads because their sales was vastly superior. The Sega vs. Nintendo “console wars” was more interesting because their ads were back and forth.
Sega and Nintendo actually had different versions of the games and competed by putting out good stuff though. There's a difference with how Microsoft did things. It apparently used overwhelming force to acquire the Halo licence to begin with which I only found out yesterday from speaking to a Microsoft employee!
Definitely in terms of the games on offer! Although the PS3 suffered from the same bullshit component failures as the 360, I'm pretty sure statistically the 360 has the worst failure rate of any console in history. xD
The Dreamcast came out in 1999. It was a 6th gen console. It wasn't meant to compete against the PS1 (1994). It was meant to get a headstart on the PS2. For most of 2000-2001 it had a vastly superior library but the PlayStation name was too much to overcome.
Kinda True, It shares a decent chunk of its library with PS1. But yeah, Soulcalibur and Sonic Adventure absolutely blew me away but for whatever reason, I didn't get Shenmue until recently. Definitely deserved more success.
@@tahan9323 it literally had games on it that also came out on PS1 and not PS2. It was by definition in competition with PS1 at the time of it's release, because amazing games were still being released on PS1. I had both and still got ps1 versions because I was dumb and didn't know the Dreamcast versions were far better looking. However, I didn't claim it was in competition with ps1 in my video because it has nothing to do with the point I was making. The point was, like the Xbox, it was the more powerful console and it also beat PS2 to the punch. However when Xbox came about the conversation of being "the most powerful" console was at the very forefront of the conversation. It was made that way by Microsoft and it's still pervading the conversation on current gen games when they should be talking about making good games, not graphics.
I never liked Xbox, the Xbone system due to 1. The P2Multiplayer Trend 2. Unreliable hardware 3. Their controllers don't use motion controls at all, so you're telling me that NINTENDO and SONY can make better 3RD person and 1ST PERSON SHOOTERS due to simply having a lesser need for aim assist and compete with mouse and keyboard users. 4. No Handheld Experiences. 5. Felt invasive from day one.
@@KenKaniff-dw4jw That's a double edged sword, but I won't defend it. The Steam Gamepad had a similar issue, but even worse double Placement, but the battery life was amazing. Rechargeable controllers from the PS3 are better than the annoyance of double A's. I don't like the ps4, it has an alright gamepad. The first gen of PS4 pads sucked though. I can tell the difference between first gen 1 and gen 2. The D-pad sucked and was too tight for PS2 games, PS1 games, and stiff, but the second model was actually less stiff. I kind of miss the convex design. Specifically Steam Gamepad's design was perfection... Not having rechargable batteries is excusable if you are a third party controller manufacturer, but being first party is a huge sin in my book. Xbox still refusing to use motion controls is puzzling as a PC user with a steam deck and nintendo switch. I got room to speak here.
@@KenKaniff-dw4jw Let's mention the fact it took 3 console generations and 3 controllers to make a decent controller for Xbox, but let me add insult to injury... Xbox one's isn't that bad, but considering it came from a Side-Winder gamepad as its origin. Still pretty much weird. Xbox original, Xbox 360, then Xbox 1, the elite is a clone, nothing to mention or notable.
@@TheRetroPerspective incorrect again 1/3 of Sony profit is from gaming and networking services. So not majority. And absolutely not 78%. Also they make good profits and revenue on other aspects of business like TV, movie, series, appliances etc. (Outside of cellphones and some other aspects of their business which do not do as well)
@@jtfromsomewhere you're making up your own definition of majority. I just looked up a study from 2023 and gaming revenue was double that (or more) of any other area for each quarter.
I was 13 years old when the first Xbox released. 13 year old me knew then that Microsoft entering the gaming industry was not a good thing. PlayStation had their fan base, Nintendo theirs and all was right in the gaming world. The Xbox? Well it aimed to compete directly with the PlayStation instead of existing harmoniously. Xbox brought us payed subscriptions, DLC that completed unfinished games rather than adding to them and micro transactions galore. The gaming industry was, and still is, crippled by the Xbox "innovation" that is the epitome of Microsoft's American greed machine.
Xbox don't make good ips for the last decade they push everything on games pass day n date and expect Sony to do that Wich they can't afford to do as they sed it mean loseing out profit on there games and they would have to make lower quality games that's y u got horizon forbidden west on a 4 teflop machine PS4 pro looks much better than halo 5 on a 12 teflop machine.
I'd have to question the line of "Sonys innovation to tech" mentioned around the 4min mark. If by innovation you mean attempted stranglehold - proprietary memory cards since day 1, patented mini discs etc - they wanted their ideas to take off so they had all the rights to it - effectively controlling the market. I recall Simon Miller telling a story from his working at Sony days - he was part of some business meeting and the Sony execs were openly laughing about how much they were going to charge for PS memory cards. Still, I'm not here to bash Sony - Nintendo were horrendously guilty of trying to strangle the market back in the 80s and 90s under the guise of the american games crash. Microsoft just barrelled in with all the money and power - didn't overly work when they seriously dropped the ball with the Xbox One. Xbox isn't bad - they ALL are 😅❤
How else would you save your game? PS1 needed memory cards in the absence of hard drives. It would have made the console way bigger, heavier and more expensive back then. Memory cards were great for their time and my Playstation magazine video series so far shows prices were extremely generous and constantly being slashed in the late 90s. Not sure on your point on mini discs. Sony were huge in developing the CD and every tech that extends from that. It's an important technology. Yes, patents are a bad thing and yes, all corporations are awful under capitalism. Doesn't really discount what I said.
@@TheRetroPerspective no discounting you opinion at all, makes for healthy debate. My mini disc example was them purely trying to siphon off from the CD market - for the record I adored my mini disc player. You can also argue Sony tried to get UMD over along with (at the time) patented memory sticks, the Vita for sure had proprietary memory cards.... All 3 of the big companies are completely guilty of lots of bad things constantly - Xbox with DRM nonsense, Nintendo sueing anyone that even whispers Mario and copyright in the same sentence. None of them are clean at all. But obviously this video isn't "the big 3 suck" it is about Xbox so obviously point taken there. I'd love to see you so a Sony / Nintendo one of these down the line!
Yeah this is why we need to help block the buy up of all the gaming companies. As well as stopping the push to get rid of physical media. As with movies I remember if a movie didn't go to the theaters it was a crap straight to DVD movie and using this idea reverse I knew that if a video game didn't have a physical copy is was some garbage game a company spit out. Now I can't tell which are worth my time because they are pushing for no physical copies and with hundreds of thousands of gaming being spit out every year I see the return of the video game industry stagnation of 1980 where companies like Microsoft don't care about the game play and only about the money made. Plenty of people with end up spending money on straight to DVD like video games not knowing and will get bored real quick of trying to find one that's good.
It's sad but this is only a problem for AAA games and existing IP thanks to them being hugely expensive. There is an infinite supply of new indie games, some of them good. A successful indie is easy to grow into a small studio. If there is still a mainstream demand for physical media and ownership, indies will provide it though you might have to play on a PC or boutique console like the Evercade.
No offense but I had to repeatedly rewind due to your thick accent. I disagree with the overall message that Xbox as a 3rd competitor was bad for gaming. Sony had already knocked out their only competitor, Sega, before Xbox came along. And Nintendo clearly couldn't compete with them in any generation and by the 7th-gen they had carved out a separate market entirely. So without Microsoft and their big bucks we'd be stuck with a Sony monopoly on the general gaming market for more than two decades.
No offense taken. Like I said in the video, Microsoft spent those bucks on advertising and buying up studios like Arkane (who are now doing very shoddy work) and Bethesda (who have been doing shoddy work for over a decade) and haven't put the money into making good games.
If that were to happen most of their studios should be able to go independent. Ninja theory isn't profitable enough though so they'd have to flip back to Sony for the 5th time 😂
If that happens I'll never let my xbot friend forget about this an Xbox studio going to the aother company after the parent company closed their gaming department to get findings for a game that will never succeed I won't let him forget never ever💀
Great vid, although I certainly think that advertising aside, Sony did Microsoft a massive favour by completely messing up the ps3 launch. At that time, everyone was so hyped up for the next generations to land, and the choice consumers were given was to get the 360 now or wait a year for the ps3. I waited, but I remember having to watch on longingly as my mates played gears of war then subsequently trying to convince them that resistance was better. (I still believe it).
Yea I had a ps2 but when the 360 launched early I couldn’t wait and also after seeing gears and assassin’s creed. But in the end I didn’t like the controllers with the battery concept and having to buy extra cords that for some weird reason didn’t come with the system I sold my 360 and contemplated giving up gaming. The ps3 brought me back with the release of metal gear 4 and I’ve never looked back enjoying each new iteration of PlayStation currently owning the ps5 and the psvr2 and loving it
Lbox has been irrelevant since 2011/12 peaked with the 360 been 🗑 ever since & their games or complete lack of are just complete dogsh*t the Drm rental service is there only future not consoles they aren't on Sony or Nintendos level in the console space
Still looking forward to playing Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon at some point but beyond that, not much interest. They should have been on PS3 in the first place.
I think it's definitely dangerous times for the video games industry. We have Microsoft advocating to not buy games in favour of paying for a subscription. Sony with 0 reasons to go out and buy a PS5. And Nintendo refusing to talk anything about Switch 2. If they continue to fail we're heading right towards a crash.
This is why the Steam Deck is my most played gaming device right now. It's the best value for money emulation device currently on the market, and Steam is the best platform to play the most games, from PlayStation exclusives to Xbox exclusives and everything else in between. As for innovation, in gaming, it still exists, but nowadays it's mostly found in Indie games. Of recent memory, Valheim, Vampire Survivors, Stray, Hi-Fi Rush, Sifu and Rolerdrome come to mind.
I always thought of the xbox as the dreamcast 2 with it having the same button layout (mirrored snes) and the jet grind radio sequel. Their two biggest sins to me are the paid online service model (which has now even reached nintendo) and crap d-pads (mvc2 was horrible on the 360, give me the dc or ps2 version anyday). I'm not sure if they're fully to blame for consoles having hard drives, but if so that's another. I thought that was a great idea at first (keep saves locally and use a generic usb to travel with instead of a proprietary memory card), then came my experience with street figher 4 on ps3. Cannot copy save? What? So if I want to play at a friend's house, I have to lug the whole console to his house or unlock the characters all over again on his system because the save is tied to a psn account? F off! I still buy consoles and games, but there is always the feeling of something being off from what it used to be when using xbox and ps products. I would still buy any console if capcom made an open-world mega man legends 3 or okami in the vein of fallout or breath of the wild, but for now ps5 has no games and neither does xbox-sx. They just feel like pc gaming where I don't have to use steam. Now I'm sad, I'm going back to my SNES for some Demon's Crest.
Can you stop talking shit. almost all games that were made for PC work better on xbox 360 than PS3. Half Life 2 runs badly on PS3, almost unplayable. I don't know of any games for windows game that doesn't work as long as you insert the disc and enter the code during installation, everything works without internet. So the situation is better than today, the games are yours for the rest of your life!

How Microsoft is making so much money? I haven't bought anything from them since 2010 or so! And i feel like most people i know never bought anything from from them in their entire lives!
Cloud and enterprise stuff I think? The amount of money they earn off Windows licenses on OEM PCs is supposed to be tiny and Xbox has to be a money pit these days.

So Xbox brought gaming to the masses and legitimised it so much so that gaming became ‘mainstream’ something that Sony benefits from to this day and you think that was a bad thing? As for Activision, Valve and Bethesda who you mentioned and Bungie, BioWare, Ubisoft, Epic and EA for that matter all of whom where encouraged and helped by Microsoft to port their games to console in the first place and all benefited massively from it and became massive contributors to the entire industry including for Sony which probably wouldn’t have happened without Microsoft’s support and involvement. And unlike Sony they didn’t force these companies to be bought out to do it… Yes Microsoft has made some horrible mistakes and decisions but they’ve made some really really good choices and transformative innovations that bought gaming forwards as a whole. There’s a reason why ABK and Bethesda sold themselves to Microsoft is because they know unlike Sony MS never stood in their way in fact they went above and beyond to market them something ABK lost completely when they signed a marketing agreement with Sony. Believe whatever ‘facts’ you want to but Microsoft did a lot for gaming and still does to this very day.
Xbox and playstation has disabled optic drive through their updates to further push digital game sales. Make a video on that, please. For some reason both consoles no longer will run disks and it's an issue that no UA-camr seem to have the balls to address. I've seen numerous videos of gamers with old and current gen consoles experiencing the same phenomenon. The consoles attempt to run the disks but gamers are met with the console not recognizing any disk(playstation) or, being asked if they own the disk(xbox) or to check the disk as it might be dirty(xbox). I feel this is a new form of highway robbery of physical disk owners as many have libraries physical disk games. It would make sense to at least provide the option to download the digital copy of your physical game. With this weird new push, your only option is to repurchase a game you already own. My xbox transitioned into this state gradually after an update and when I switched over to playstation, again after an update, the same issue arose. Both consoles just wont allow the optical drive to function correctly. It attempts to but fails. Only the digitally downloaded games will run. And I find it odd that no content creators have addressed this new phenomenon. There are people with brand new Ps5's and series X consoles malfunctioning in this manner. If there was a digital only switch event to take place, it should have been made public by Sony and Microsoft. I cant imagine spending 500$ on a brand new console just to have my entire physical library rendered obsolete then having to repurchase all my favorite games digitally. The physical disk should unlock or also be bonded to a digital copy. It just seems like a disgustingly greedy attempt to siphon money from gamers and needs to be addressed by someone. Can anyone else see it??
I've been involved in gaming since 1983. In 86, I got a SMS and my twin bro got a NES for X-mas. I was always big on Sony products in the 80's. They would enter the gaming space and crush both Sega and Nintendo. Sony wanted the living room and knew it would force Microsoft into the gaming industry. I would switch to Sony at the launch of the PS1 and waited to buy the PS2 when my brother went midnight launch with the og Xbox. He prefers Xbox and I prefer Playstation due to what we like. Both companies would make mistakes that almost destroyed both brands. I feel we are about to enter into a new golden age of gaming. Look at the value kids today get by having a PS Plus Premium or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions. Hundreds of games to play. I grew up on Gamepro and EGM and bought games based on box art. I do feel the industry offers great value. When it comes to high art we are down to 2 major brands. Both are in a content war. It starts this year and it could force people to buy both a PS5 and XSX or lose out in great games. MS did buy their way into an even playing field. I know Sony purchased quite a bit as well. I think Starfield is important to Xbox as the first Halo was to the og Xbox. With Forza, Hellblade 2, Redfall, and Stalker 2 it could be a big year. Sony has FF16 and Spider-Man 2 and others to counter.
Honestly at this point, I have no reason to buy a PS5 or Xbox series. Consoles are so close to PCs at this point, there’s really not much of a difference. And they exclusives seem to be less and less interfesting
UE5 games are true next gen like black mith wu Kong and silent hill 2 remake demon souls remake is a true next gen and hzd 2 is one of b st looking games on ps5
That's the Decima Engine but yes, looks and runs fantastically on console and PC. Unlike Starfield which I just played and couldn't continue because of how terribly it runs!
The main thing I hate about Xbox is how bad the store has gotten, there used to be quality control and restrictions on what gets put on the store, now it's 60-70% mobile port garbage, some of the games on there I wouldn't even consider a decent mobile game, just pure garbage
Your neglecting to mention that the PS3 OS was notoriously difficult to develop for. Even Sony's own devs publicly hated it. That's why it was easier to optimize for 360 over PS3. Xbox former manager, Don Matrick, sold 99% of MS Game Studios in favor of 3rd party timed exclusivity for the Xbox One. Basically cripaling Xbox going forward. Which leaves us why MS has been buying studios... Simply, to get back what Don Matrick sold off. But no, MS doesn't have good 1st party games. The original Xbox had the most, and best. MechAssault, Crimson Skies, Brute Force, ect... But now I'll take a PS single player exclusive any day.
Naughty Dog seemed to manage fine. They made 4 games for the PS3 that were some of the best looking on either console and ran perfectly and only 2 games for PS4. If PS4 has now fixed this issue then why were there barely any games released on it?
Developers lie, like they are lying now about how development techniques that have been used since PS2, specifically Ratchet and Clank, are now "only possible with a PS5 SSD." Traveller's Tales founder recently called out this lie and said the latest Ratchet and Clank could have easily been developed on PS3.@@557deadpool

Don't forget Microsoft paid journalists to claim the XBOX version of the game ran better than PS3, which wasn't actually true in the vast majority of cases.
Microsoft from what I gather following their history with windows is basically ea before ea, they always been kinda evil it's just nobody noticed until it was too late. Not that I am some Sony fanboy either I been disgusted with them too.
Yes they did. I was a huge xbox fan until Series Atari ruined next gen. All games have to run on Series S (bull shit) Why would a developer waste a dime & time on series X? They wouldn't that's bad business decision for a Console Microsoft obviously doesn't give a dam about: Series X-port games to the Atari2600. Microsoft splits its entire gaming base to have and will never have. Hello PS5 a real next generation gaming experience
Ive been a massive xbox fan since the original xbox seeing how Microsoft is hurting gaming and devs. I have to admit i seen this coming they have always pushed the bounds as to whats acceptable and whats not by gamers but Microsoft has always thought of themselves over gamers. Im against large corporations like Microsoft sony Nintendo and tencent owning everything in the gaming industry and was against MS buying Activision. MS has bought to many studios just to shut them down later something they were actually known for MS is were gaming studios gos to die and now the ones that are still open put out crap
After Xbox 360 everything died for Microsoft including Xbox one but up from the ashes came game pass, this will eventually eliminate the traditional game disc, for anybody that likes to collect physical copies for buy, trade, sell, Microsoft has ruined it as they push to be the only Netflix of digital video games and leave Sony in dust banking on new consoles and physical games, Xbox has evolved for the future of gaming and they wanna be on top and that's no secret.
CD made noises about putting the Tomb raider DLC on the steam release last year... then Square sold them off. So who knows... Good video and lots to think about. As much as I like the idea of gamepass you cannot rely on thr game you want being on there at any point in time. For retro gaming it's practically useless- as poor as their service is even Nintendos eshop subscription is more reliable as at least I know what is and isn't available
I think so but it will be on PC as well so no need to xbox, even better could be playable on Linux IOS etc. so no need for windows either, fanboys cannot process it so they delusional
These companies have the interest of the company in mind not the customer-I like the future how everybody could take information and make it their own like there’s some kind of professor😂
Indeed, but they have a wave of fans, from the ones who are rational and admit their failures (sony too) and the ones who are blind and delusional and cannot admit nor deal with the fact of how shitty their brick/fridge is. No more xbox since 2012.
Maybe if they didn't have bad stories and got awful monetarization, that shouldn't even be allowed the Xbox would still be Xbox, and it would just be another good era, like the original on 360 after how good the showcase was, I really hope Xbox will be Xbox again, because I don't want Microsoft to leave Xbox and have nothing but a s***** subscription service. I really just want them to have good games again and they need a fire phil and get someone else that actually does the job better The guy is just a face But the others do need to get fire too, because get rid of him and keep everyone else, it's just gonna be the same thing. They all need to go get actual gamers in charge of games instead of s***** corporate soulless a******* Why?Keep everything corporate out of gaming and the The world in general.
Good video I was always a ps guy since the ps1 era went to Xbox during the 360 hadn’t has ps in years just got the ps5 and I have spent months playing Sony. Exclusives they are way better and more fun Xbox just can’t compete
I'm benefitting greatly from xbox's moves. Game Pass is genuinely awesome - hassle free digital, play anywhere & on nearly any device, wherever i can. Let me play on whatever i want! Thank you MS/xbox. Stream games before deciding to download. It is all super convenient and very affordable. I also have many, many old games from 2000s and 2010s. Gamepass has remastered or remakes of these games so I played those instead. Games are not like movies or music folks... many games haven't aged well. I don't live in the past. If you want really old games - sail the 7 seas.
@TheRetroPerspective all the bugs, unfinished content, day 1 patch - yeah it sucks. If it's on GamePass then it's fine to download day 1 but otherwise I'd wait a bit before parting with my 70 bucks from elsewhere. Older games not aging well, i meant - poor graphics, weird controls, incompatabilities with latest OS, hardware, sometimes game stopping unfixed bugs etc. Especially from the early 3D era. Not sure why I'd preserve some of those.
@@TheRetroPerspective I don't think so. I couldn't play games if there is no consoles. Gaming on computer always requires some kind of tinkering and it takes so much time that I have been discouraged to play games because of that. I remember I bought Xbox controller and it didn't even work on Mac. So I decided to sell it and not play anything. Later I decided to try again and bought Playstation controller. Seemed to work, but was some problems with getting games and launch. O.K. Screw that, I tried install windows, but controller again didn't work. Finally managed to get some kind of software only to realise that my Zoom Tac2r audio interface doesn't work with Windows. Not only that, but since I missed a lot of gaming from early 2000, I was trying to get something like pcsx2 running for those games and it was just so much pain, I quit. When I remember my most fun gaming time it was on NES clone in 90s, no loading times and it just worked.
I don't know that I'd have much to say that I haven't said before. Bethesda haven't developed a good game since 2011 and even that's debatable by some. Blizzard has completely lost their way and seems to have no clue what their fans want. WOW has made them lazy and greedy. Activision are much the same.
I gave up on the Xbox after my father gave Microsoft many many chances with the 360. We were a struggling family and my father scraped the money together whenever he could to get me and my siblings a new Xbox 360 after each one eventually gave us the “red rings of death” I wanted a ps3 badly but my pops thought that the 360 was better. Idk he came up in a time where anything Bill Gates was related to must’ve been superior. I remember I went off to college in 2012 and finally got the PS3 I always wanted. My dad still had my lil bro and sisters on the Xbox wave though. Then I called my dad one day and told him about the Xbox one and all of the issues I had. But what hit him was when I told him they were coming out with a Kinect and the camera always had to be on and you NEEDED internet to even play the Xbox one. I made him a Microsoft hater that day 🤣🤣 crazy part is having a 360 was weird anyway. I went through elementary and middle school on the ps1 and ps2. The Xbox 360 was so weird to me. And having to buy batteries for the controllers was ridiculous. We went through 5 Xbox 360s. Think about that….tried everything. I even remember the whole towel trick. It’s an experience I never want with a console again. Idc how great the new Xbox is. Idc how great game pass or whatever is. I won’t buy another Xbox again. Microsoft gave a lot of people and families a faulty product during a recession. A simple gaming console shouldn’t become another constant worrying repair or replacement cost when you spend 100s of dollars on it. And you don’t have that money to spend to begin with but when you’re a parent who wants to put a smile on your child’s face you’ll do anything. You’ll work overtime to buy that one thing they’ve been obsessing over for once. On top of what Xbox live cost I know there were some mad parents back in those days lol. The one thing I can thank the 360 for is teaching me how to destruct and rebuild things. Don’t think out of those 5 360s we went through me and my siblings didn’t get some screw drivers and tried to play surgery on that bad boy a few times. Our dad even took interest in watching us trying to troubleshoot every POS Xbox we got. The problems with the Xbox made us all tech savvy kids. We all have a BASIC knowledge on how to install and repair electronics. That was something we were never interested in, or at least I know I wasn’t, until we ran into issues with our 360s and started looking into those faulty products. If you laid all the Xbox 360 parts in front of me right now I could probably build it for you 😂 seriously.
@@TheRetroPerspective it was inexpensive at pawn shops all over America that’s why. People were buying them then pawning them left and right. Between the Xbox coming out during the worst recession, faulty hardware, and a monthly price to play online. Pawning off your Xbox and buying a PS3 seemed like a no brainer. And the PS3 played blu-ray.
Bro, why does any of this matter? Who cares if something is going good or bad? Just let people like what they like, but everyone needs to understand that this is all secular, providing temporary happiness and none of this will last forever.

Then one day once they're gone, what's there to dislike or like about it anymore? Just find that positive while it lasts...

I know, it's crazy 🤣 I think what he said says it all really.

The AI! XD

@@TheRetroPerspective True
Gamepass is killing gaming long term and tricking the idiots short term

@@arioca Interesting. I hadn't realized this!
Sega and Nintendo actually had different versions of the games and competed by putting out good stuff though. There's a difference with how Microsoft did things. It apparently used overwhelming force to acquire the Halo licence to begin with which I only found out yesterday from speaking to a Microsoft employee!

I played The Orange Box on PS3 at launch at it ran fine. I never had any problems with it. The PS3 was way better than the 360
Definitely in terms of the games on offer!
@TheRetroPerspective timothylewis is correct. What are you talking about?
@@tahan9323 I never said he wasn't correct and I never said Dreamcast was in direct competition with PS1.
@TheRetroPerspective "Kinda True" ?
And they still use AA Batteries. Like wtf

@@TheRetroPerspective worth looking into the history of them - same as Sony, contemptible scumbags!
What are you going to do to "help block" the buy up? It's not up to you or any of us. We have no say 😂
I hope they won’t leave a colossal aftermath when they finally decide to leave the gaming space.

I haven't played gears but I do think the original resistance is awesome.

I would agree with that I think.... 😂

Definitely, indie games are where it's at right now!

And unlike Sony they didn’t force these companies to be bought out to do it…
Yes Microsoft has made some horrible mistakes and decisions but they’ve made some really really good choices and transformative innovations that bought gaming forwards as a whole.
There’s a reason why ABK and Bethesda sold themselves to Microsoft is because they know unlike Sony MS never stood in their way in fact they went above and beyond to market them something ABK lost completely when they signed a marketing agreement with Sony.

How can one fact check this statement when PS5 has no games?
Xbox doesn’t even know what brand they are. The original Xbox brand was what Xbox was. Xbox needs to bring back that old school brand theme.
It's funny, I'm not particularly excited by any of those games. xD

Hats down mate, this is sooo true!!! You just got yourself a new subscriber! Cheers😊
Welcome aboard!
I like my xbox one. First console I got after the wii, forza horizon 3 was nice.
Through the ps and Xbox in the garage just get a pc
Most modern games haven't aged well as soon as they come out 😂
@TheRetroPerspective all the bugs, unfinished content, day 1 patch - yeah it sucks.
It's GameTrash. Just buy the games and own them
@@KenKaniff-dw4jw ROFL Don't be so salty - it'll be soon at Playstation, Switch.
Someone must go so that new kid on the block could get in with fresh ideas and energy. Who will that be?
Ideally everyone just stops manufacturing consoles as they are supremely pointless.
Could you do a video of Microsoft purchasing activison, besthesda, blizzard & tell us your verdict
I don't know that I'd have much to say that I haven't said before. Bethesda haven't developed a good game since 2011 and even that's debatable by some. Blizzard has completely lost their way and seems to have no clue what their fans want. WOW has made them lazy and greedy. Activision are much the same.

Remember how big xbox was in the 360 erA worh halo 3 reach forza motorsports 3
hidden & dangerous 2 ftw!
I gave up on the Xbox after my father gave Microsoft many many chances with the 360. We were a struggling family and my father scraped the money together whenever he could to get me and my siblings a new Xbox 360 after each one eventually gave us the “red rings of death”
I wanted a ps3 badly but my pops thought that the 360 was better.
That's an interesting take, yeah I don't see any excuse for the 360. Baffled it was as popular as it was tbh.
I've still got my PS3
Xbox forces crossplay with PC.
PC allows crossplay with PC, for free and with better controls.
Kid the consoles doesn't become retro because it is not supported.
Even the og xbox and PS2 are not retro they are too modern.
Ok
Bro, why does any of this matter? Who cares if something is going good or bad? Just let people like what they like, but everyone needs to understand that this is all secular, providing temporary happiness and none of this will last forever.
Just let people dislike what they dislike.
@@TheRetroPerspective Just let people like what they like.
@@GeoCrockerPotI will. But also, just let people dislike what they dislike.
@@TheRetroPerspective Let me tell you something, when you dislike something, know that there's always a plus/positive somewhere. That said plus/positive will help you from utterly disliking something. But as I stated this irrefutable truth earlier, these kind of man-made things that are of little importance won't last forever. Then one day once they're gone, what's there to dislike or like about it anymore? Just find that positive while it lasts...
It's like they say, "it's just a game"
Yeah, but halo.
Halo's AI!
Xbox has always been shit Except for the. 360 But between The original xbox and theone and Series x s Completely trash
