For a guy who does Freddie Mercury justice on a regular basis and brings Cher to tears, I think theres sumthin there!
This was at an awards show to honour Chers career and he totally blew this song out of the water. He raised what was already a classic pop song to a status that nobody imagined possible.
He actually performed this one almost 20 years ago on American Idol in solo round for Hollywood week. He told Ryan Seacrest he was doing Cher but it was his own version. Amazingly talented artist is Adam Lambert.
@@atx0025 I remember during the aftermath of Adam coming out "publicly" (even though he'd been out in his personal life for over a decade) he joked that he would have thought people would have guessed it after he sang Cher. ha!
That's what Adam does, raises everything he sings to new levels.
He is a technically brilliant vocalist
Adam Lambert is one of those singers who give me chills at almost every performance. He leaves it on the floor, but doesn't look like he's doing it as he seems so calm and collected on the surface.

When most do this song they slow it down and make it into a Ballad and do it well, but Adam blows it away here. And he made Cher cry!
I watched that live when it aired and like everyone else was floored. It’s easily the best live solo performance I have ever seen on television or in person.

I saw Adam live last summer with Queen. He was incredible, they proved why they're legendary, the concert was unforgettable.
Adam's voice live is crystal clear, no screw ups, the kind of voice that gives you chills. He can be campy & funny & he can lay on the emotion & rip your heart out (like he just did with you).
I highly recommend anyone who gets the chance to see him live, do it (if the world returns to normal)! And with Queen it just makes it that much more special.💙

The depth of affliction that he can bring out in his voice to make you feel every word is truly his gift to all. Cher's version was good but what Adam did to that song is incredible. i would listen to him sing the phone book.
Lambert is a phenomenal vocalist. It was fun watching him get you (and the rest of us) GOOD! Even Cher shed a tear.

I just loved watching such beautiful emotions come out of you, so naturally and peeling back your heart to the core. You are such a lovely soul. You have a way of saying what you get out of the song. I loved his performance so much.
You cry because you feel the music, especially the way he sings it. If you really want to cry, react to him and Queen performing "Who wants to live forever" in Rio, the night after the shootings at the Pulse nightclub. Even Brian May of Queen said he never heard the song sung that way before, with such emotion. Maybe also look at his performance with Leona Lewis where they sing "Girl crush" in front of Little Big Town. Great reaction!!
I love Adam Lambert so much, but I have never seen this. Thank you so much for giving me this experience, with Cher crying in the audience too! So amazing, gotta get some tissues now, but I love you India. Still isolating down here in Australia and appreciate the great entertainment you provide.

India, first and foremost, I am 69 year old white man who has live an very interesting and diverse life in many worlds. I tune into your blog due to the joy of watching you learn about so many great artists from past and present. Cher did this song originally in the the style needed to stay relevant to the music world of those years. She was considered an old woman who should be irrelevant, and she blow this song and video off the charts. Adam is an unbelievable talent also, who knew he couldn't replicate her performance, so he took her chart to where it needed to be at the time for the lifetime award for Cher at the Kennedy Center. You see in Cher's face her joy in hearing his take on her chart. Life is so amazing, and I appreciate you India for reminding old men like me of the arts of our earlier years and how brilliant they were. Thank you.
mm only things is that he could do it vocally, as ogrinal, he does hard vocal things to Led Zepplin music, he just didn't want to. Not that he couldn't. He just felt it was more fitting for this honor. Adam does sing euro dance pop in his own music. Just so you know.. I'm not to sure if you know him that well vocally...

Don Don, he sung it this way early in the audition and even before American Idol. So this wasn’t his first performance of this song in this style if that is what you were thinking.
@@BoltManiac No, I wasn't thinking that. I was reflecting on the comment about Cher's performance in comparison to Adam's performance and tried to inject the historical component in this comparison. Adam is a brilliant talent. But Cher is a woman that aging is forbidding for, so she constantly reinvents herself and stuns the world, as in this famous song of hers. There is not comparison between Cher's historical performance and Adam's performance honoring Cher. They are both brilliant.

Adam is truly the voice of a lifetime. He emotionally connects with what he sings to truly give the listener the emotion needed. He has complete control over his voice and he will make any song his own and still make covers a tribute to the original. He is amazing!

Yay. I LOVE Adam Lambert. I've seen him twice with Queen, the first in Feb. 2005 and it was where I discovered him (on my birthday so what a present outside being at a Queen + Adam Lambert concert), and once when he toured for his album released a few months after that first concert. That was in April 2016. He has the most magnificent live vocals and he blew me away. Same with this cover of a song I love by an artist I love too. He is a gem vocal vice and can do anything.

I loved this song when Cher did it, but when he did it, I understood it entirely and Adam's version is so much better. He had me in tears by the end.😢 I bet she was thinking of Sonny, as he was the love of her life. What is nice about this song as it doesn't mention any genders, it is entirely be across the board.
Who Wants To Live Forever at The Isle Of Wight Festival 2016. Adam is stunning. It was truly an epic performance. Whatever you do, do not miss that one.

You should try to see him live or with Queen. He is unbelievable.
Adam makes the most difficult songs look easy (watch The Show Must Go On from the Queen Live Around the World DVD) but it's FAR more than technical brilliance. One can be excited by great technique but Adam also brings the emotion - that reached into your soul and makes you feel what the song is really about. Few people can do both. This should get the Grammy for Best Live Performance - though the industry seems to ignore him.
Cher loved it, FELT IT. That's all Adam needed.
Cher (and Reba) were being honored for their contributions to the performing arts at the Kennedy Center Honors December 2018. Adam had Cher’s full support in singing her song. Cher was 51 when she recorded Believe and 72 at the time of the KCH. Adam did a phenomenal rendition of this song! It’s my favorite version. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! His talent is undeniable.

I love Adam. Since his American idol days. But this is the best performance I’ve ever seen from him and that’s saying something. He is a fantastic live singer. I watched this live and it was a holy shit moment. Unbelievable cover. Cher got with him afterwards and said this was his song now.
One of my favorite performances of all time. I love "Kennedy Center Honors..." I used to go home at the holidays and my mom and I would watch it together. Miss my mom.

I actually LOVE his version better than Cher's, it's different and it touched my heart!! When you get Cher to cry and a standing ovation from THE QUEEN (no pun intended) herself, you know you're good. Adam's by far one of the best singers I've ever heard. I'd love to hear him and Pink perform a duet together. They are very similar, very versatile and can be soft or belt it out. LOVED IT!
