Yes, he absolutely had the voice, range and control for this but what gets underestimated is confidence. The second he pulled that earpiece out you knew he knew he was going to crush it.
You’re so right! And I love how damned theatrical he is. His face when he pulled that earpiece out. That little look he gives the crowd for a second, like, ya’ll ready for this? The fact that he did it on “there’s no turning back,” because he knew by that point the whole room was under his spell. That he was taking them on a journey. He’s aware of exactly how amazing he is. And, somehow, he also manages to never miss! There’s a fine line between confidence and over-confidence, but I’ve never seen him cross it. Never seen him falter. It’s kinda miraculous. He doesn’t just sing. He sells the song, AND manages to make you forget that’s what he’s doing. So you’re just lost in the moment. Knowing he knows what he’s doing, and just grateful he’s doing it. I’ve never seen someone so professional, so seasoned and perfect, and yet so able to connect as well. And he’s also absolutely fearless. He gets the emotion, and still manages to be flawless somehow. All that competence and confidence, backed up by just massive talent and a real, genuine joy in performing. He’s a gift from the Angel of music, for sure!
@@odile8701 OMG, ANGEL OF MUSIC. Adam Lambert would kill that song. I remember his PHANTOM of the OPERA costume when he was a child. I love that Musical. I 💕AdamLambert💞
@@odile8701 When I saw his performances on AIS8, I realized he was subtly gaging the judges and audience reactions. I think that has evolved and became one of his great assets in live performance. @@odile8701 WOW! That was one of the most perceptive comments that I have ever read about Adam's amazing talent. I have been "lost in the moment" in Adam's music for over 12 years, and I hope I stay lost forever!
@@odile8701 2:39 I really wish Adam would see your comment. You truly captured the essence of his talent and I got emotional thinking about how touched he would be by your insight. You know Cher tweeted that night that she couldn’t quite find the words to express how moved she was by his performance, and then 3 weeks later, she tweeted while on a flight saying that she’s still in awe of him and what he did with the song was beyond comprehension. What a compliment from an icon and legend. Think about how many dance remixes of this she’s heard. Better yet think about how many times she’s performed this song and the use of auto tune in her version just as a stylistic effect, because it was new at the time. He flipped the script on the emotions of the song in a heart-felt ballad of realizing one’s self worth. Beyond performing, he takes you on a journey and has such control that when he unleashes and lets you have it - you’re shook and gobsmacked. I love that Cher gave him permission to record his arrangement of Believe. Anyway, thanks again for a great analysis on Adam Lambert!
I recall when I first heard Adam on American Idol how far and seasoned he has come. Phenomenal talent. Like good wine he gets better with age. I so agree with your comment at the end of your reaction, he is one of the top male vocalist out there today. Im so impressed at his interpretation of that song and having nerves of steel to perform at Kennedy Center in front of Cher none the less. Very impressive, so much so it gave me chills.
Thank you so much for this reaction vid! I guess it's the very professional equivalent to me saying he could sing my local (German) phonebook and I'd still buy tickets to that event. And yes, he still sounds better live on stage than on youtube! Go see him solo or with Queen, he'll blow your mind anyway!
It is a stunning performance. It amazes how well he sings. I heard him Queen this summer and at one point his filled the arena floor to ceiling. I appreciate learning more about the different techniques.
Great reaction John I appreciate your mention of his musicality as well as technique. I was fortunate to see him sing on Monday in New York in a small venue . Technically flawless as always (specifically how energy efficient he is). But what stands out to me most is his connection and instinct. He conveys beautifully the miracle of the human voice . 🙌
It's nice to see people recognize how great Adam is. I think he is still, even now, very overlooked and not appreciated enough. I loved the look of astonishment and pleasure on your face while listening. This song always brings tears to my eyes, it is just that great.
Thank you John! I understand your reviews more than any other vocal coach on UA-cam. You don’t make it about you and you explain in a way I can understand. That being said, I love Adam Lambert’s voice even though I can’t tell you from a technical perspective why. I just know he is my favorite vocalist of all time. Unfortunately I could only understand half of it, but so much that you are thrilled by Adam's voice, his technique... plus his performance, his charisma, his beauty.... he is simply indescribable, a godsend.
It's sad that a singer like this- will be one of the most under-appreciated /respected artists around. When really outside the states- he's considered highly respected for a male pop/rock vocalist. That includes China. etc

I've seen this performance many times, because I never get tired of it. But it also seems to me I saw him do it, changing a disco song into a ballad, back when he was on the America's Got Talent or whatever show that was. He's magnificent.
Thanks for reacting to that,, ❤💕 the fact there is the organizers wanted to tribute cher and told adam to sing the original version but adam said he'll do this one and this made cher cry
I've loved Adam for a decade already! He's like a precious magical creature from another dimension that for some reason the mysterious Universe has gifted him to us. And I am infinitely grateful! He tailors his whole demeanor from venue to venue and it's just such a pleasure to watch. Have a look at his acoustic performance from, I think it's Foxwood? Recently. For instance his acoustic version of If I had You where he sings" because I have all of you" and it's just a very sweet moment. I just want to hug him, hold him, and kiss him on the cheek, then make him food to eat. Lol

Yes, John, I agree with you 100%, he is one of the best performers, if not the best, around today. Thank you for your analysis. I could tell from the very first time I saw Adam sing that he had something very special.
Michele Hilty I heard, too, how special & gifted he is, not just with his vocals, but as a performer. He should have won that season of Idol. I was stunned when he didn't.
His performance of this song blows Cher's version into the shadow zone. No comparison. Took a disco beat and turned into a true heart wrenching powerful song.
Hi, John--I've never heard anyone discuss Adam's vocal folds before :) It is my opinion that he has an extra lung as well! Seriously, thank you for your excellent analysis of Adam's out-of-this-world voice--I will be seeing him perform live on Friday and I don't know if I'll survive when he sings Believe! I hope you get to see him perform live someday.
Totally agree, one of the best male performers, entertainers of today, maybe THE best; never receives the recognition he deserves. Left me with a few tears in my eyes - that doesn't happen when Cher sings it??? LOL, nothin' personal Cher! (and he's so handsome too!) American Idol did him wrong, way wrong, but he survived.
He did better by not winning. He avoided the A.I. curse and can sing and do anything he wants. Totally killing it with Queen, and successful in his own right!
I’m pretty sure it was planned.. If he had won 1st place, he probably would be locked to a contract for a lot of years to come... I believe Queen already had eyes on him. I may be wrong, but I really don’t think so. I can’t even remember the other guy’s name, and have never heard of him ever since. I believe they had other plans for Adam
Thanks soou much for reaction video!!!! l saw Adam at his solo twice and 3 times with Queen!!!! All times Adam fantastic!!! Best concerts and best moments in my life!!!!!

Hearing you discuss the technical aspects of singing makes me realize how much is involved when a person with a well-developed voice and musical instinct is singing. I haven't previously heard the details about singing vowels that you've pointed out in this review and your review of Adam singing "Who Wants To Live Forever." Thank you. I'm interested in hearing your review of a few songs from Adam's new EP, Velvet Side A. He posted live sessions performances on his youtube channel ... Another great evaluation, Adam is so great but not really appreciated in today’s music industry but he made this song his own version and Cher loved it. John Henry you’re the best music evaluator that I’ve listened to so far, great job

Adam has the most beautiful voice in music today!!!
I've been a fan of Adam Lambert for 10 years, love him.
He is not one of the best he is the best the more u listen to him the more u realise it he has hundreds of performances that r just too perfect 4 anybody out there ... Thank u 4 the reaction
Totes true 💖💖
Brendan Urie is pretty damn good as well.
Dimash
GLOBAL SUPERSTAR Adam Lambert is singular and no one comes close to his remarkable artistry. NO ONE!
This song by him singing it is absolutely beautiful!! 💗 he’s singing this song his own way and it’s breathtaking.
Adam Lambert is the Best!!!! His voice is Powerful, beautiful and skillful!!! Awesome!
I really love Adam Lambert,he is the best male singer today!
donnie payne I think both Adam and Brendon Urie are both up there with vocal range and control
💕AdamLambert💞
@@odile8701 When I saw his performances on AIS8, I realized he was subtly gaging the judges and audience reactions. I think that has evolved and became one of his great assets in live performance. He engages and takes his audience into musical journey. With his musicality coupled with his kind heart and loyalty, I'm not surprised people are enamored by him.
He actually performed this song when he was on American Idol but you can really see his growth in this performance. It was incredible.
Most underrated singer, bravo, Adam!
It's amazing to see someone with that much talent in a small venue. He really should be selling out arenas.
@@HarlemRain75 Adam is selling out arenas as Queen + Adam Lambert 💓
Yes sir, I agree! Adam is phenomenal!
He is an OUTSTANDING singer.
The word you were looking for is flawless :)
I appreciate someone like you recognizing his talent. Thanks again!
Thank you, Jame. Glad you find the videos helpful.
Adam has a great and powerful instrument indeed!!!! The best technical vocalist!!:))
Right on, John Henny.....Adam is an extraordinarily brilliant vocalist. He has no equal among his peers. Everything he sings is a master class!
Unfortunately I could only understand half of it, but so much that you are thrilled by Adam's voice, his technique... plus his performance, his charisma, his beauty.... he is simply indescribable, a godsend.
Adam is a phenomenon
It's sad that a singer like this- will be one of the most under-appreciated /respected artists around. When really outside the states- he's considered highly respected for a male pop/rock vocalist. That includes China. etc
MasiaDe
OK.
HE began getting more respect and more T.V.apearancies and America knows Adam Lambert.
But some knows just that he is Adam Lambert from American ldol show and on and on and on in not very good way what some people thinkink, becauce they don,t know how much Adam talented singer, performer, sooou unique and true artist and his voice not just very big,but soooou beautiful and always touching people hearts including my heart!!!!!

FOREVER ADAM!!!!!
In China, actually, Adam is regarded as the best male singer in the world today.
MasiaDe A lot of people that have seen the most recent Queen concert say he’s awesome. They do say he’s not the showman that Freddie mercury is and he doesn’t have the same voice, but he has had medical lessons when he was a teenager. I love his solo work, too!
@@pearlcheung9263 Is it actually true? How is Adam famous in China???
A perfect performance doesn’t exi.... Nevermind.

"At first they weren't sure, but I said, 'Would you please trust me?' and I'm really glad I pushed for it - because I think that's what made it such a moment."
He is so f-ing good
I've seen this performance many times, because I never get tired of it. But it also seems to me I saw him do it, changing a disco song into a ballad, back when he was on the America's Got Talent or whatever show that was. He's magnificent.
Yeah, he did the ballad version for Hollywood week.
American Idol 2009 season 8.
I've watched this over and over and still am awed by Adam's performance. Stunning.
Thanks for reacting to that,, ❤💕 the fact there is the organizers wanted to tribute cher and told adam to sing the original version but adam said he'll do this one and this made cher cry
One of the finest vocal performances ever
I've loved Adam for a decade already! He's like a precious magical creature from another dimension that for some reason the mysterious Universe has gifted him to us. And I am infinitely grateful! He tailors his whole demeanor from venue to venue and it's just such a pleasure to watch. Have a look at his acoustic performance from, I think it's Foxwood? Recently. For instance his acoustic version of If I had You where he sings" because I have all of you" and it's just a very sweet moment. I just want to hug him, hold him, and kiss him on the cheek, then make him food to eat. Lol
@bluedaizee24 thanks for mentioning that performance. I just watched it, and it was great to see Adam so relaxed and having fun.
Adam is the best!!!! 👏👏👏
I actually prefer this to the original
me too :)
As do I. The ballad style really suits this song.
oh yes absolutely!
Me also 👍🏻
@@trinejensen1707 Many of Adam's renditions are better than the original and Paula Abdul alluded to that when he was on American Idol. He just keeps getting better all the time!
We all know Adam is amazing, but what really hits me is the SPOT ON analysis by this voice teacher. John Henny seems to really know what the instrument can do and is being done here by Adam. Love them both
Yes, John, I agree with you 100%, he is one of the best performers, if not the best, around today. Thank you for your analysis. I could tell from the very first time I saw Adam sing that he had something very special.
Michele Hilty I heard, too, how special & gifted he is, not just with his vocals, but as a performer. He should have won that season of Idol. I was stunned when he didn't.
love hearing someone explain what singing truly is. It's the best instrument EVER. The human voice
Underrated but finally getting the recognition he always deserved.
His performance of this song blows Cher's version into the shadow zone. No comparison. Took a disco beat and turned into a true heart wrenching powerful song.
Love Adam. He is awesome.
I’m here in November 2020 and I’m literally amazed at his vocals. He is incredible ❤️ I honestly can’t stop listening
@@xxx-il9dv Totally Agree!!
I've listened to this so many times & have teared up every single time.
AIS8 was rigged. It's documented on QUEEN and Adam Lambert's 2019 The Show Must Go On NETFLIX movie he wanted to win.
Ive watched this performance many times and each time I say... perfection!
Thank you for this helpful and brilliant analysis of Adam Lambert's singing of "Believe". I agree. He is amazing. A beautiful tribute to Cher.
Adam is amazing, his voice is so strong and sensitive at the same time, love him
Thanks soou much for reaction video!!!!
l saw Adam at his solo twice and 3 times with Queen!!!!
All times Adam fantastic!!!
Best concerts and best moments in my life!!!!!
I would love John Henny to react to Adam singing "SOAKED" while in Indianapolis (2010) - his most theatrical performance in my opinion, jaw dropping and mind blowing, watch the audience
Superpower, Closer to You, Overglow, etc. His live session of Feel Something connects on a deeply emotional level, as does Closer to You.
He’s got a really good boys and the members of Queen love having him sing with them because they say he makes them feel younger. Adam has that Youngblood they say they to keep then feeling like they did in their younger years.
I love this performance.
love adam since forever. humble AF
Adam is incredible. Absolutely amazing.
He made Cher CRY and I will never not be over that...
It is so wonderful nobody can sing this like he does
Truly a gift to all of us. Adam has blown me away since the first time I heard him sing on AI.
Outstanding! I liked your comment about Adam being emotionally connected... Very few evaluators that I've seen have commented on it... And I find that absolutely breathtaking!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I just Love Adam.
Watching your critique, but even more, explaining all the various techniques Adam uses was so so enjoyable. Thank you sir.
Thank you for such a thorough and brilliant analysis!! I always enjoy your reaction vids, your love of singing shows bright and clear, so very genuine..you must be a well-loved teacher, without a doubt!
And yes, absolutely agree with you. Adam’s seamless transitions, cleanness, colours and layers, this particular arrangement, truly masterful and glorious! Just What he can do with his vocal instrument, blows my mind repeatedly.. And you paused and mentioned each and every point, with fantastic clarity in description of exactly how Adam creates such a flawless flavour! Thank you!! This was Wonderful..
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.
I have been amazed by Adam for ten years now! Thank you for explaining some of the technical stuff to us. Not only is he an exceptional performer, but he's also a class act.
I can't watch this performance without an extended smile, on multiple occasions, from pure joy and uncontrollable tears. I believe the tears are from witnessing an evocative, truly professional, absolutely perfect, transcendent performance. I don't know.
My reaction has not changed in 20 viewings over 3 months.
I agree with you, sir! This young man is wonderfully talented.
Thank you John Henny..... I will never listen to vocal artists the same! I have to watch this over again. You are great! G.
Come on , John. We love your analyses. Give us something more from Adam, please.
Another great evaluation, Adam is so great but not really appreciated in today’s music industry but he made this song his own version and Cher loved it. John Henry you’re the best music evaluator that I’ve listened to so far, great job
The first time I saw him was on AGT and he took my breath away. I’ve been a huge fan ever since.
Sorry he was on American Idol season 8 2009.
How come no one remembers Adam creating this version of Believe during Holloywood Week on AI8 to prevent fomr getting cut from the show??? Glamberts where you at?
Adam can Sing anything Well.God blessed him with his talent looks and kindness
Thank you so much again, for react to an Adam's life performance, for explaining us how he makes a very difficult performance/ song looks like an easy thing to do. He has a natural talent and he is also really weel trained artist, we are blessed to have him in our lifes.
I LOVEEEE, this performance. I am new to this channel.this is why in here. I already love Adam Lambert, I was desperate to know why. This analysis is why I'm here.
