Police are the “enforcement” arm of your local government.
      However…
They do not protect or serve citizens.
Their job is to protect and serve SOCIETY -as a whole and NOT individuals.
As a matter of fact the Supreme Court recently reaffirmed their position that the police do not have a constitutional duty to protect the lives of individual citizens.
(Such can be seen when police fail to provide protection for witnesses in criminal cases or to domestic violence sufferers who have restraining orders and known threats.)
The police do not stand guard for special populations like the elderly, women or children either for this reason.

What dedication to even go out at night, I'd be so scared, but you did it knowing you could fall through into that freezing deep water. The will to keep a Promise is, well there's just no words. I can relate so much to this man, that's why I never chose a career as an investigator, police officer, or anything like this, because I tend to "obsess" with unsolved things/mysteries. Which is not good. If I start something I'm not comfortable until I finish it, until I've answers, my determination is too much. I'd end up pushing my family and life aside to solve these cases. I've so much respect for this man.
