      They would do better if they knew how to fix it instead of complaining about it lol!! All the time Randy spent complaining about no wipers he could of had the thing rigged up to work but he's the only one I know that would buy a 50 year old car out of state and expect everything to be all good and go drive it home with no tools and parts to fix the issues because real car guys would know there will be issues and tools will be needed to fix them.

      @bloodybones63 2 роки тому +1

      They have some one like a mechanic driving separately with them to fix things. They don't record them because they want it to appear that they are all alone & taking chances & fixing the cars themselves. Almost all the 'Will it make it home?" videos do the same. Editing.

    It’s a satellite Sebring plus because of options including the rally dash. and imo you paid a little too much by $4-6K Also the side markers have been filled in. The road runner hood that you want are hard to find and usually start $500 and up. A lot better than the scamp. Way over paid on that one.

    I had a 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring back in 1973. The front seat was a bench seat. Actually, it was what they called a 3/4 bench driver side was 3/4 of the bench and the passenger seat was independent with high backs on both sides. Also, mine was the same color!

    It is very common for the wiper arms to jump off the motor. Especially if the arms encounter a lot of resistance when they move. This actually SAVES the motor from burning out. The motors seldom go bad.

      Kinda is lol. I bought one running n driving with 30k orig miles, numbers matching 73 road runner with brand new engine and tranny (with paper work) and working factory a.c for 6k
      Also that's not a road runner, it's a satellite it has bucket seats but the roadrunner had a center shifter not a column shifter
      It's almost like someone started the swap of the dash. Cus it has a ralleye dash but none of it works. And it's all disconnected.

    Bought a new Roadrunner in 1973. Black with white stripes. It came with a 318 two barrel and floor mounted three speed manual transmission. It had hood pins and all Roadrunner equipment including slotted exhaust tips. I think it cost around $3200. Unlike larger engines, the 318 did not have the engine size on the white hood stripe. Enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

    My guess is that with the tires being 23 years old, they are disintegrating from the inside out and need to be replaced. The tires on my '71 Buick LeSabre were purchased in 2000. Last summer, after a run in high temps, I started to get a bad vibration from all four corners. The tires only have about 6000 miles on them and from the outside, they look perfect. I couldn't afford to buy new tires last year, so the car has been sitting since last June. Hopefully, I can get tires and have it on the road this year.

    For the wipers get a good rubber band and a piece of thin rope to go inside the car and pull it manually and the rubber band will bring it back. I remember doing that in my 1947 Pontiac when I was a teenager, it works and it's better than nothing.

    I have owned many Mopars. As I look at your thumbnail, I see right away that it’s not a Road Runner hood. The exhaust tips are incorrect, it should have the “flash suppressor” tips. Im sure you googled the VIN. Since it was originally green, I’m guessing that it’s originally a vinyl roof Satellite Sebring. The rubber strip between the rear bumper and the trunk is unobtanium. You are missing all the brightwork trim obviously so that won’t be cheap to get ahold off for the next owner.Good Luck with that hooptie…

    The title is easy enough to figure. When I titled my '71 Roadrunner that had been sitting for 29 years recently, the woman at the DMV asked what model the car was, "Road Runner" I told her, and "RDR" she put on the title. No mystery, your car is a Satellite.

That will be a nice car when it is finished. Next time don't forget the Gorilla Tape to fix water leaks. Once I bought a Cessna 172 that was full of Hail Damage all over I used a Hot Air Heater Blower 165 degrees on each dent and a bunch of dry ice for the fun of it and accidentally repaired 97% of the Hail Damage after I bought it from Avemco Insurance Company as a Total Loss. I had the FAA come inspect it with a IA standing by also and to my surprise they Re-certified the aircraft as airworthy. I flew it for five years after that and had 1/10 of what it cost in it. Got Lucky. Zero Paint and Zero Parts. The inspection cost 2g but it was worth it with a fresh Annual included. I got a How did you repair that question from the FAA and a lot of people asking me to repair Hail Damage which I never did again on Aircraft. Everyone signed off on the Airplane but I did have to enter it in the Log Book as to the procedure in detailed explanation. Nice Car ya done good on that one.

    The first car I bought was a '74 Roadrunner, my VIN started with RM21L4G. Mine was a 360 auto. I had the same bucket seats in my car, which had a console and slap stick shifter. I looked at RR's that had buckets with no console and a column shifter, and some with consoles and the slap stick. You could build them with some odd option and color combos. My car had some seriously warped areas on the roof near where yours had the cracks.
    I don't know what a Satellite 6 is, possibly a fleet car? I don't think your car has the original rear end, as I think it was one with a rear cover on it, instead of the 8+3/4 that should have been in most V8 cars, which indicates a fleet car. Mine had the taxi rear end, as it was one of the last '74's made, and it broke soon after the warranty was up. I replaced it with a vastly stronger 8+3/4 3.55 Sure Grip from the local boneyard. My car had a lot of "wrong" parts in it, including the wrong wheel bearings! I had to have one of the spindles replaced soon after I got it when the wrong bearing tore it all up. As far as your car goes, I'm sure I saw it and drove it about 20 years ago in Indiana, a friend was thinking of buying it. Unless there is another purple RR clone with a 318 that used to be green, it's the same car.

    So, before buying the new alternator you saw that both field wires were detached from the old alternator. Maybe they did that because the old alternator was shorted out to be able to drive it without damaging the wiring. Still, I would have asked O'Reillys to test the old alternator on the bench. You didn't say if you kept the old one or turned it in for a core.
    For the record: Anything below 12.7 is NOT charging at all. The ammeter was very good in pointing that out, even though Mopar guys today are wary of the original alternator.

    It's a Road Runner -cloned Satellite. RH is the biggest giveaway. The jacked leaf spring shackles says "Saggy springs," the dash pad is a vinyl wrap over...you should have gotten a spare ballast resistor, spare voltage regulator (on the firewall) and replaced the instrument cluster voltage regulator. Old Mopar super weak spots.

    • @auteurfiddler8706
      @auteurfiddler8706 2 роки тому

      Well, the resistance gauges (engine temp, fuel, and oil pressure) are about right, so I'd leave the last one (the dash voltage limiter) be. They make a solid state replacement for that but I'm not sure if it is really any better.
      A spare voltage regulator, ballast resistor and ignition box are fine to have, but the original ones were pretty reliable for me. Maybe not the cheap replacement stuff you buy today, though...

    You told us it’s a 318 at the very beginning.
    It’s a very Cool Car, I would take this over a Mustang.
    I like the Purple, with the black stripes, it fits the car.
    I'm surprised Jessica isn't getting jealous, with you going on these road trips without her.
    My wife hated road trips, but she even hated it more, when I would go places without her.

    11:15 hilarious how after MWM's comment, Randy immediately concurs by indicating they need to get to a Walmart, LOL!
    My silliness aside, Randy, was a pleasure recently meeting you in OK a couple days ago - will follow up via email.
    FYI, for anybody who thinks that Randy just "fakes it" or really doesn't really work on cars… I can tell you firsthand that that is complete BS! The dude works his butt off (and certainly earns everything that's coming his way).
    Shout out to Santa's Garage as well!!

    Nice car it would be cool if you could find a road runner console with a slap stick it would make the interior look complete I had a real one back when I was young and it had a 383 in it was very quick car but in really rough shape up here in Canada yours looks really good great job

    I'm a watcher from Australia. Don't feel to bad about paying to much for it. Putting it in perspective, that car is worth around the 75k range over here. All those American muscle cars are very expensive here.

    Decode on the VIN tag. R=Satellite. This includes Road Runner, Satellite and GTX. H=Dress level. P for Premium, H for High, M for Medium and L for Low. 23= 2 door hardtop. G=Engine G code was 318. 3 or 4 would be the year code. 3 for 73, 4 for 74 etc. 7th digit is for manufacturing plant. The rest of the numbers are sequence. There should be a fender tag screwed to the driver's side inner fender with accessory codes stamped in it. There are online accessory code decoders that will call out Road Runner specific options. Look for call outs of the RR hood, emblems, exhaust tips, stripe packages or other specific options. A small added detail on this car is the "Go Wing" on the trunk. I believe that it was an option last offered in 1971. The cracking in the roof is on a weld seam and is common on that model. The factory supposedly leaded the seam on non-vinyl topped cars and used plastic filler (pink lead) on the vinyl top cars. I have found this to be inconsistent. Also many of the manuals of the time made an error on the engine codes by transposing the M and P codes designating 2 or 4 barrel carbs on the 400 CID engine. Hope this helps answer some questions.
