Tommy is the only man who can make me cry two times within 15 minutes, just by playing his guitar. The Duke and One Christmas Night, two new true masterpieces.
I've played guitar for over 50 years. I could never be arrogant about my guitar playing with guys like Tommy around. Actually I've seen 10 year old children on UA-cam that could play circles around me! Humbling!!!
I think tommys brilliant stage act and jaw dropping guitar playing can sometimes overshadow his beautiful compositions which surely stand up there with the greats in terms of melody, feeling and their significant simplicity. A great song makes you think 'why did'nt I write that?' The 'Duke' is sheer brilliance. Nice one Tommy, thanks for making me pick up a guitar- again, and again, and again......................
NOT BAD TOMMY: I GIVE YOU 8+ ON THE SCALE OF 0 TO 10 FOR THIS EXECUTION. CHET IS THE KING. TOMMY LISTEN TO ELVIS N MARTINA CHRISTMAS DUO. ABSOLUTELY N BEATIFULLY ELEGANT. THATS REAL C-MAX SONG.
A most BRILLIANT Melody... This song I think will go down as TEs best like Angelina. Saw him do this in LA past couple weeks.. His LIVE performances are SUPERB.... Please go see him LIVE.. Worth every penny !!!
2 non mi piace? Non ho parole... Non dovrebbero esserci assolutamente... Stupendi... Fuoriclasse Tommy... Grazie per regalarmi nuove emozioni ogni volta... Ogni chitarrista ti dovrebbe stimare... Ma qualsiasi persona in generale... Raramente mi commuovo.... Sei mitico Tommy
Tommy! Tommy! The more I hear from you the more I want. Masterpieces again. What a marvelous multi-talented musician, composer and wonderful person who so unselfishly shares and encourages others. I wish I could see and hear Tommy in person just once. Thanks for posting.
Ever since I first saw Tommy play at Winfield '08, I remain simply astonished at his abilities. As a fellow guitarist, I strive to get better, each day, and Tommy certainly provides MORE than ample inspiration. In the words of his native Australia, good onya, mate!
Ahhhhhh.... Now that it is morning on the east coast US I realize where and when I first heard Tommy play "The Duke"..... it was at TommyFest in Elizabethtown KY back in Feb of this year -2011- He loves western movies and was watching a John Wayne movie when inspired to finish writing a song which he started a while ago. He wanted to show his admiration for the Daddy figures who have instired him over his lifetime - thus, "The Duke" named after John Wayne as mattstraszewski correctly points out
I think that's the first time I have heard Tommy playing with tremolo, I always wondered if he could do it, then again I am pretty sure Tommy could play anything he wanted.
Tommy and John Knowles have a new Christmas CD which should be available very soon ! The songs are refreshing and the guitars sound amazing ! Tommy used his new David Taylor guitar for the recordings.
You're right, the pattern is thumb - middle - index, with the thumb ascending up the bass notes of the chord and the middle and index hitting the high string in quick succession. As far as I can tell, anyway.
The closest I can come to identifying the writer of "Kentucky" is the Louvin Brothers which you can find on UA-cam but someone in the comments claims their grandfather wrote it so who knows. : ) Maybe Tommy will weigh in and tell us the real truth.
Bravo Meastro that is so beautiful 🌏♥

one man with an awful lot of talent! very beautiful,
好好聽喔~~~超愛Tommy
You have no idea how hard it is to play that song without making at least ONE minor error. Of course it is Tommy that wouldn't even make one error.
Tommy, I think that were I to leave this world tomorrow, it would be YOUR guitar that would be the last thing I would like to hear.

Regarding "Kentucky" it was written by Karl Davis and Recorded by Karl & Harty in 1941.
Regarding the song "Kentucky", I think The Blue Sky Boys may have had the first recording of it. It's here on youtube. The Louvins copied it.
Intro sounds inspired by Tomorrow Tomorrow by Elliott Smith. But not knowing too much of Tommys music, this could be before Eliott's time.
Beautiful video ! ... ( sigh )
Made possible with UA-cam
The first one played is "The Duke", I suppose. Song inspired by the person of John Wayne. Anyway, thank you for uploading videos!
He asks his fingers to do some weird things in order to play that great and they don't complain, they just do it.
Thank you bruiser for the info. It's been tough to find data on this song. I'll ask Tommy about it soon to see if he can add anything.
