I always either soak my pallets or leave them out in a good rain before disassembling them. The wood softens and expands making even the toughest nails easier to pry. You will yield longer pieces as well because the ends won't split and break as much.
I do that also even hit them with the water hose some times its a great idea thanks for sharing. i think the wood seems to hold together a little better when its wet.
easiest way I found: wear good gloves, bang point on ground one side then another a few times till loosened, then stand up on one side and rock back and forth a little more each time, pallet just falls apart, sometimes a slight kick on one board (not enough to crack it) only to loosen it off the 2x4. Denail by hammer or nailbuster as needed.
I didn’t have this tool so I decided to save $70 and use a Maddock. Same results so save yourself some money if you don’t have this tool. Obviously this deck wrecker tool is better so it’s up to you if you want to spend the extra money.
I've watched a lot of these pallet videos, but the absolute quickest way was using a sawzall.. But there is always a drawback.. if the nails that r left n the wood doesn't affect your project, then you're good to go..
I hose them the day before, leave them overnight, no splits or threatening creaking, full plank every time, with a pallet buster tool. Nails come out easier/wood is soft so no grab. with a claw hammer. This vid; of course it was easy, is if you want firewood!, which is what you achieved. Nails, top end equipment will work better than the basics that most of us have. Not sure why the woman featured?.
Thanks for sharing. That’s a quick and dirty way - I see some wood snapping and bending so it probably won’t be my preferred method but I dig the efficiency!
Thanks I have noticed that people are selling them on amazon also. This one is $40 I think its worth it to buy if you will use it much. here is a link if it will help. amzn.to/2gEuqds
I don’t know if anybody Is still looking for the info but the tool to loosen the boards is called a palette buster and the tool to take out the nails is called a air locker.
I’m relatively new to this, so am correct in thinking that the drier the pallet the easier to break it apart ? But then does the wood split more readily ?
Actually I have found that if you wet the pallet with water the nails pull easier. And the wood doesn't break as much but. Most don't recommend it because sometimes the wood will warp and you have to wait until it's dry to work with it.
I'm not going to be critical or any of that stuff and I really like this idea, the pallet wrecker is good and i think i will make one like that but i will always have the sawzall nearby just in case. I dont like pulling apart wet pallets even though the wood is softer but unless you stack it on stickers, the wood will warp when it dries. When i do pallets usually its about a dozen at a time so anything to make the pallet deconstruction time shorter and the furniture construction time longer in the shop is a great help. The nail tool you have is interesting, can you source it in a reply, Ive never seen anything like it before.
I am trying to get the boards as long as i can. i have used a saw as well this is just a different way to do it so we all have options. thanks for the suggestion. please keep the feedback coming I appreciate it.
Bought one of these a month or so ago. Love it. Absolute timesaver. Got mine on ebay. Shipping from US to Australia was around 10 days. Thought I might have needed to get a bigger compressor but runs fine of my smaill one.
Thanks for the positive feedback. i was worried that it was going to be very heavy when i got it. but its so light i couldn't believe that it was around 1 pound or so..
The fastest way is to flip it upside-down use a sledge hammer or a 10pound hammer and hit those three crossed wood where the actual wood you want is nail to and it will just come right off..
Take pallets apart in two minutes flat? your video showed a stripped pallet at about 2.35, but it didnt show you strip the bottom down and it looked like a bomb had gone off on it!
we actually don't have gas in the can it has water in it. LOL we us it for a watering can for plants in the yard. it works very well as a watering can.
You people saying to just cut the nails off with a sawzall, what do you do with the twisted shaft left in the stringers? They're a big PITA to get out if they're cut off flush. I'd rather risk cracking some board ends than argue with a few dozen embedded nail shafts.

I did make it. the dimensions are 3 x 5 In angle iron width is 9 in. the handle is 40 inch long. the notch is 2.5 in wide. PM me i will send you a picture of it.
Chris Gagnon actually I guessed at measurements lol. I used 3x5x1/4 angle also but 7 inches wide with a 46 inch handle. Made this job so much easier. Thanks man.
that awesome glad you made it. now you will be able to separate pallets with ease. thanks for watching and feel free to share a picture of one of your projects with me.

that's very true I dose help allot.
Yes! This works
Wow! Just the information I was looking for. The company I work for throws away the pallets they use, sometimes after only one use!
Glad it was helpful!
I have all the tools but love your method for nail removal. I’m going to rig the plywood with the square hole for over the bucket tomorrow. Thank you!
I like the cover over the garbage can, a good idea that I'll be using.
Good idea. If only I had some free pallets.
It is an especially good idea to do this on a driveway so you can drive over the loose nails the next day
Or easily sweep them up o.o...
@@Trick-theDev only takes one missed nail and it's off to the tyre shop!
Thankfully he's got a big dopey looking truck he never uses fully.
James you talking from experience? Lol
Rolls over several times with a magnetic pickup bar
put a spacer block under the hammer when you have to use its claw, it takes less to get the nail out and you dont risk damaging the surface as much
that is good advice. thanks for sharing you tip with the community.
I love the soundtrack. I’m like getting ready for bed real fast
Man youre lucky to have a wife that helps you bro!
I am very bless thanks
I use a reciprocating saw. Takes about 10 minutes if the blade is good.
The issue is the nails, still there
I like your fancy nail remover. But I use my palm nailer to remove the nails. Not as fast... but it does the job!
Thank fluck for the volume control.
Thanks for your video Fast and efficient way to dismantle a pallet.
Thanks for the kind words

Thanks for this. Didn't know there was such a thing as an Air Locker nail puncher. But just bought one from amazon :)
Glad I could help!

@@ChrisGagnonDIY your welcome 😊💯
Reciprocating saw is fastest and easiest. Just slice right down the sides and then the middle. Any small nail leftovers just fall out.
I my self is going to start doing pallet projects that was so cool and fast god bless keep up the good job
I like them they can give you surprisingly good wood for small projects
Thanks for sharing. Awesome idea.
Thanks for sharing. That’s a quick and dirty way - I see some wood snapping and bending so it probably won’t be my preferred method but I dig the efficiency!
Okay, so how do you break down pallets without that nifty tool? (Especially non-heavy duty ones)
Several small 2x4s make a bridge and smack the boards or cut with circular saw if you dont need long boards
I seen this tool beforehand! Someone else has plans and instructions on how to fabricate one. Thanks.

I have some pallets that appear to have been taken apart and reused as they have nails that have been sawed off. How do you remove those ?
I ended up using a nail punch and a hammer.

Try the outside of the boards leaving middle last
thanks for the advice I will try that..
Cant believe iv actually just watched that, i do need mental help but now I know I have no hope!!!!
Do you have a reciprocate saw? I think it would be a game changer for your operation and would be a great time saver on the tail end.

They don't need a whole lot of air - total time saver! I got lucky and found one at a garage sale for 10 bucks!
Awesome, glad I have seen your post, cheers
Great video but it’s a demonstration on how to easily break pallets with tools most people searching these videos don’t have...
The nails dont come out that easy with the tool, you can see barely any effort
The fastest way is to flip it upside-down use a sledge hammer or a 10pound hammer and hit those three crossed wood where the actual wood you want is nail to and it will just come right off..
Very nice!
I think I like your "pallet buster" better than the one you linked to.
Your local blacksmith will make a pallet buster for you so much cheaper than Amazon.
Jacalli local blacksmith? hAhaha
@@danagreen4700 yes local in some areas. Rarity in others. Strathroy is lucky to have a 3rd generation blacksmith right in town.
Super Sawzall from Milwaukee makes mincemeat out of the pallets in seconds.
I have a Craftsman steel claw hammer too! Likely will pass it down to one of the kids. And then the handle will rot off and Sears will be gone.
whatæs the name of that tool that you used to take nails with air

I would rather find use my easy way. Although your EAZY way was pretty good.
I do this for a living I work in a pallet place just use a horizontal ban saw whole pallet in 30 seconds
Still have to deal with nails in some way. How much is that band saw?
nice do this in the drive way so your get a flat from the nails
the nails clearly went into the bucket....
