Thanks for your review. I just got a full bed on a new Vcore 98. Initial impressions was that it felt stiff and board like. It took about 2 hours for the string to settle in. That’s when the pocketing, power and control went up by 100%. I did 18 gauge at 50 lbs.I’m a fan of hyper g, but it doesn’t have the pocketing and control characteristics like confidential.
This string is not square/four-sided, it in fact is five-sided/pentagonal... This string in 16L/1.25, pre-stretched and strung at 47 Lbs in a Wilson Blade 16x19 V7 is magic... The best setup I've ever had and very comfortable too!
I matched this string vs a Hyper G Soft last weeks and the first time I took them to the court I instantly liked the Hyper G soft better. From the get go it had better comfort (is soft poly) and decent enough power. The Confidential however was a brick wall when I first started playing with it and I barely could make it over the service line. However everything changed when the tension dropped and the strings settled! I started to pick up the racket with the Confidential more and more. The hyper G Soft became annoyingly jumpy and harder to place with confidence and it didn't serve the service well at all (spin serves felt always short and flatter easily wide). The Confidential in contrast became an absolute unit! The ball did everything I had in mind and I could easily control serves as well! The only downside I can think off now is perhaps the spin potential. My go to string (Head sonic pro edge), especially on slice serves, is a killer. I should compare these two head on when I need a restring. Since I am starting to feel that my arm doesn't like long matches with poly's and since my budget won't allow me to restring often I am thinking to make the step to Multi's (Head Velocity MLT) especially in winter time and get back to poly's in spring/summer/tournaments with a slightly lower tension. Rackets used: Head Instinct Adaptive (295g, 16x19) Strings used: Solinco Hyper G Soft (1.25G, 16L, 24kg (53lbs)) & Solinco Confidential (1.25G, 16L, 24kg(53lbs))
Thanks for the write up! I do agree with your initial sentiments with the Solinco Confidential. On top the Solinco Confidential notching SUPER easily, I did find that the first 10 minutes of Solinco Confidential is not comfortable at all... but everything after that is golden. I will disagree with your downside of spin potential, I think it gives ample amounts of spin for a shaped polyester (or maybe you were saying its a downside in comparison for your go to string)? As for the Solinco Hyper-G Soft - I cant wait to test it :).
@@MarkSansait Yes, I meant in contrast with the Head Sonic Pro Edge, I could have written it a bit clearer perhaps. But the Confidential really shows potentional to be my new fav Poly, but still have to do a direct comparison. Maybe perhaps in spring time, next thing to try for me is the multi.
@@MarkSansait how does confidential’s spin compare to poly tour pro’s spin ( I liked hyper-g but it was inconsistent with the trampoline affect, I hate that poly tour pro doesn’t give enough spin. Does poly tour pro have a longer break in period for spin or should I just look at other strings)
I agree with your assessment of the sweet spot having too much power... On a Head Prestige MP 95SQ 18x20 Confidential 16L @ 53lbs it had more power than I wanted in the sweet spot and felt somewhat unpredictable power wise. If I try this string again I will follow your recommendation of stringing it at a higher tension. Previous string was Alu Power 17g @ 53lb which was more predictable and had less power.
Hi Clay! For a polyester like Confidential I would recommend 2lbs lower than middle recommended tension of your racket for an open string pattern racket. For a closed string pattern racket I would recommend to go on the lowest end of the recommend range.
I really really like this string, it bites the ball when hitting topspin or slice shots but God damn is a firm string. I have never gotten tennis elbow and after one hitting session and a match I started to feel wrist, shoulder and elbow pain (even thought I stringed it 1kg loser). Tried it again for 10 mins but again the pain started, went back to my regular poly and the pain went away immediately. Not recommended for players with arm issues, otherwise is it awesome :)
You are absolutely right, Confidential is quite a stiff string, it has given me so much tennis elbow and forearm pain cause of using it, never had such problems with other poly strings. Do not recommend this string just cause of this lack of comfort.
Thanks for the great review. I tried these strings in my head extreme tour 16 gauge at 55 pounds. It felt amazing when playing and the control was awesome. But my arm got injured after a few sessions. What are your thoughts on the 17 or 18 gauge and tension? Thanks
I've just bought a set, will be interesting to see how this stacks up, i love tour bite in thinner gauges, did not really gel with Hyper G, but i won't give up on it yet
Awseome man, can you do me a favor? Let me know what your honest opinion is of these strings! Even if it is a huge contrast to what I posted on this channel. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks Mark for your review! Your new subscriber. Would you recommend this string for doubles 4.0? How quickly this strings lose its properties compared to some average? I watched your review of Volkl Cyclone (my strings of choice for the last 7-8 years). Which is more comfortable (arm friendly) Solinco Confidential or the Volkl Cyclone? I would really appreciate your answers!
1) no, this is more fore a heavy baseline topspin players, if you are a 4.0 doubles player stick with a round poly 2) tension maintence is slightly below average 3) durability is slightly below average 4) cyclone is more comfortable imo
What size do you recommend and why? I keep getting different opinions on 16 and 17 I’ve always played with 16g and never on 17 so your opinion would be great 👍🏼
I will always playtest/review with 16g (or 16L if there is no 16 available on retail). I always play my tournament set up in the same gauge as well. My rule of thumb for most players: Play with the thinnest gauge possible until it snaps too quickly, then go up a gauge or two.
The stiffness rating for this string is higher than Hyper-G according to the TW University stats. Did you really find this softer? And if so, can you compare the softness and comfort of it with Hyper-G soft if you have had a chance to try it? Thanks. Enjoy the reviews btw.
Hey Peanut! I did find this to be a softer string with better ball pocketing compared with the Solinco Hyper-G. I have yet to playtest the Solinco Hyper-G Soft - I am excited to try it out in the neat future!
Thanks for the question! If you are a beginner stringer that is on a budget, I would start with a 2 point drop weight stringer. Pros: Cheap as heck. You can find a lot of these cheapos. Cons: Very, very slow on stringing. Tension might not ALWAYS be super precise. 2 point stringing machines scare me because of the way the racket warps visibly If you are an intermediate stringer (you have strung over 100 rackets in your life) that is on a budget, I would start with a 6 point crank stringer without a mount/stand Pros: Somewhat cheap. You can always upgrade to a mount/stand. You dont see the racket warp nearly as much Cons: Tension is more precise than drop weight, but its not super consistent (especially those damn Prince Hole-y Rackets) If you want the most bang for your buck like me. Get a 6 point crank stringer with a mount, then replace the crank with an electric tensioner. Pros: Literally almost perfect tension upon the constant pull. Incredibly cheap for the cost (assuming you know what you are doing). Cons: A bit expensive (my set up was a total cost of $1000... more on that in a bit). And I had to install the electric tensioner myself (took about half an hour). Obviously if you REALLY want cheap, buy stringer used (do NOT BUY A USED ELECTRIC TENSIONER). I bought a used 6 point gamma crank for $400 and the tensioner was $600. My stringing quality is better than 99.9999% of pro shop restringing even if they use a $5000.00 machine. I string faster too! (About 13.5 minutes per open string pattern racket.) Keep in mind, I have strung over 5,000 rackets in my life. But keep in mind - its also about the skill of the stringer (person), not necessarily the machine stringer... Similar to the tennis player, not necessarily the strings or tennis racket 😉

@oz turk, even thought Yonex 98 Ezone Tour had amazing reviews... I can always add weight to a racket and rebalance it. Its damn near impossible to take away weight on a racket's stock form.
I have played extensively with Hyper G, and have been playing with Confidential for the past 3 months. It has a bit less spin potential, but is far more predictable, i.e. the ball doesn't jump out of the string at a crazy angle like it sometimes does with Hyper G. I do find it less durable than Hyper G, though. They both notch pretty badly in a 100sq.in. open string pattern (PCG100, Angell TC100), but Confidential breaks around the 4 hours mark while Hyper G lasts to around 6 hours in my experience. But I think this would happen to any shaped poly, they just don't provide much durability in a very open string pattern, at least not if you hit hard with a lot of spin, which is what polys are designed for. In those frames, a round poly is a better bet.
I dont factor in the service charge for the prices of these strings - it depends on the part of the world you are in. I personally only charge $10 per restringing if they have the strings.
Found out about you through ET congrats on the win it was a great match. But speaking of strings i tried solinco hyper g and it didn't have enough power however the spin i got was amazing, what other strings do you recommend for power other than confidential. Thanks in advance

if youre still looking for a solution id suggest possibly trying hyper g soft, rpm power even, for a softer string with bite and spin. While hyper g soft is a lot more underpowered than rpm power they both still have similar spin potential and rpm power probably just has slightly less bite. the only issue ive found with rpm power is the coating comes of after about 8-10 hours of play but that seems to have been fixed in the latest reels of the string. rpm power offers great feel and softness for a poly i might add.
