Thank you so much! This saved me from buying another laptop because I didn't think I could get my Chromebook to show the video I needed on my TV. Very helpful!
I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if the audio is too quiet, you'll need to make sure the volume on both the Chromebook and the TV are turned up. One of them might be on maximum volume, but if the other is turned down really low, it will still be quite quiet.
My biggest regret is getting a Chromebook at all. Worst computer ever. Right now mine has some sort of glitch with the HDMI where it switches on on the TV when I close the lid and off when I open it.
It worked!!!!! Thank you so much. Clear instructions. I was about to give up because I heard the sound but all I saw was the wallpaper on the tv. The trick was to go into settings and click on device and then mirror. I will be subscribing to your channel.
The mirror option is the only option that will mirror your screen to the TV via HDMI. Are you sure your Chromebook doesn't have it? I've never seen one that doesn't. You might just need to make sure the HDMI cable is correctly connected on both ends.
I purchased a hdmi converter and connected my chrome book to my TV and didn't see the mirror display. Thankfully I watched your video and saw i just had to scroll over AND in the settings I can change it to mirrored. Amazing video, great insight ❤
I don't have a video for that, but my tips would probably be to restart both your Chromebook and your phone, turn Bluetooth off and on again on both devices, and perhaps turn off any other Bluetooth devices within range of you to avoid interference.
Unfortunately not, it has to be USB-C. Regular USB ports don't support native display output like USB-C ports do. USB to HDMI adapters do exist, but they can only be used on Windows computers where you can install extra software to force it to work, and you can't install that software on a Chromebook. So USB to HDMI adapters do not work on a Chromebook, only a USB-C to HDMI adapter will work.
Hey the Chromebook screen pops up on tv but when i click on youtube there is a line under youtube on the tv like a opened it which i did but it stays on homescreen how do i fix it.
I just needed visual confirmation that the adapter used usb-c type, not usb-a. The video is so simple and well-edited. " what kind of cable do I need? " the answer would seem something obvious, but for those of us trying to find the right cable to make our lives better, its nice just to know for sure. thanks Tim
Hi can you tell me plz my Chromebook is not turning on can i use these method for Chromebook to mirror in tv plz tell me which cable should I buy and usb hub my Chromebook version 9
Sorry, to start with if your Chromebook is truly not turning on, connecting it to a TV probably won't help. If the Chromebook still works, but the screen is broken, you could possibly connect it to the TV, and use the TV as the screen. But if the actual Chromebook (aside from the screen) is not working, connecting another screen won't help, you'll need to either get the Chromebook fixed, or get a new Chromebook. Additionally, if you do want to try connecting it to your TV, I'm happy to help you choose what adapter and cable you need. But I need to know what Chromebook you have, and unfortunately Chromebook version 9 doesn't really mean anything to me. There are lots of different brands that make Chromebooks, and all of those brands make lots of different models of Chromebooks. It might be a "Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook" or it might have an even more complicated name like "HP 14a-nf0007TU 14 Chromebook". The name might be written underneath it or something, or if you still have the box it came in or something, that would be great. But if you can't find the model of your Chromebook anywhere, it's probably easier to just look at the ports on the side of your Chromebook. If it has a large port that is wider on the top and narrower on the bottom, that's an HDMI port, so all you need is a basic HDMI cable. If your Chromebook does have that port, I'll be happy to recommend a cable. If you don't have any ports like that, and all the ports look more like the charging port on a smartphone, that will be USB-C, which means you will need an adapter for that. Once again, if you do need a USB-C adapter, let me know and I'll be happy to recommend one.
@@techtimewithtimmy I have Dell Chromebook version 9 model number something that like that 5190 2 in 1 it written in the back side I didn't remember that much and I plug my Chromebook in the charging but her light didn't not convert into white and my Chromebook is not turning on
Thanks, I've found it. That Chromebook will need a USB-C to HDMI adapter. But, if the charging light isn't working either, I doubt plugging it into a TV will help. It sounds like something inside the Chromebook is broken. You could maybe take it to some kind of computer repair shop and see if they can fix it, or perhaps take it back to where you bought it from if it's fairly new. But other than that you would just need to buy a new one.
@user-pj5rh3tc7s I can give you a link to an adapter if you like, but I really don't think connecting it to a TV will help. Let me know if you still want the link though.
When I go to Displays, all I get are options to change display size, orientation, and a night light schedule. I have an HDMI port on the computer, but it doesn't seem like it's actually intended to work....
@@techtimewithtimmy same thing. It should never have been broken; but I plug it in and the Chromebook doesn't even notice or recognize it. Has never worked, ever 😞
Those adapters exist, but they don't work with Chromebooks because they all require additional software that is not available on Chrome OS. From what I understand, most USB-C ports have native display output built in, whereas USB A ports are only designed to carry standard data. With some additional software on a Windows computer, you can basically make a virtual display, and basically send a live video of that display through the USB A port into the adapter. But from what I hear, they often don't work very well, and none of them work at all with a Chromebook.
There are a few basic things you could try: Restart your Chromebook, and see if it works after that. Unplug your TV from power, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in again (basically restarting the TV). Unplug the HDMI cable from both ends and plug it back in again, ensuring that both ends are definitely plugged in correctly. If your TV has multiple HDMI ports, you could try plugging the Chromebook into a different port on the TV, and then change the TV source to that port to see if that works. If you have a different HDMI cable, you could try that instead in case it's a faulty cable. Or, if you don't have a different HDMI cable, you could try plugging a different device like another computer, or DVD player or gaming console or something into the TV with the same HDMI cable, and if that doesn't work either, it might mean you need a new cable. And that's about all I can think of, if it still isn't working, I would say there is something wrong with either your TV or Chromebook.
Your instructions are great and they work but the TV screen starts good and the slowly goes darker than the chromebook. I unplug and plug it back in and does it again. Any suggestions?
Thank you for the quick response. I bought the chromebook on Amazon for 60. It was refurbished. It must have a problem with HDMI port. I read some of the comments below and it seems people are having problems with their HDMI ports so I guess this is a common problem. @@techtimewithtimmy
It could be that the TV is on mute, or the TV sound is turned down very low. So you might need to try turning it up with the TV remote. Or, it could be the Chromebook sound is muted or very quiet, so you might need to try turning it up on your Chromebook. Or, you might need to click on the time in the bottom right-hand corner, click on the arrow next to the volume slider, and make sure that it's set to output sound to the TV. If none of this helps, unfortunately, that might mean there is something wrong with either, your TV, HDMI cable, or Chromebook.
This video is great, I'm fairly technically minded but I've never actually used a Chromebook myself and I'm exploring the option of getting (and setting up) a Chromebook for my grandparents. In the fairly likely event that the TV's resolution is higher than the Chromebook's resolution (say, a 4K TV vs a chromebook with a 1080p display) is there any option to take advantage of the TV's full resolution when mirroring, such that the TV displays 4K video coming from the Chromebook?
Unfortunately not, when you mirror the display, it can only mirror the Chromebook's built in display, not an external display, so the resolution can only be the resolution of the Chromebook's built in display. One option would be to not mirror the display, and have them as two separate screens, and then turn the brightness all the way down on the Chromebook which would actually turn the Chromebook's built in screen off, leaving you with just the one thing showing on the TV in 4K. (if you don't want to have two different things showing on the different screens) But the Chromebook screen would have to be off the entire time.
