- In this video, we look at how to connect your laptop to the TV using HDMI cable. We go through it step by step. We're using Windows 10. A Sony Bravia TV and Lenovo laptop were used in making this video.

EQUIPMENT USED IN VIDEO:
▶ Sony Bravia TV (Including Remote)
▶ TV Power Cable
▶ Lenovo Ideapad Laptop
▶ Laptop Power Cable
▶ Mouse
▶ HDMI Cable
There are different ways to connect your laptop to your TV, including different connection types, adapters, even wirelesses connections, but for the purposes of this video we're going to be using a HDMI hard-wired connection.
PROCESS OF CONNECTING LAPTOP TO TV - This video assumes that your TV is on and connected to a power source.
1. Connect power cable to laptop & ensure power is on.
2. Connect a mouse - I find it easier to control the laptop and can be used even when lid is down on laptop and output is to TV only.
3. Plug in HDMI cable to back of your TV, taking note of the port used. I our case we used HDMI 2.
4. Open lid of laptop and power on, signing in if required.
5. Plug the other end of the HDMi cable into the laptop. The screen will go on and off for a few seconds whist the HDMI connection becomes established.
You have now successfully connected your laptop to your TV using an HDMI cable.
If you're outputting your laptop to your television to use the TV only, say your watching your favourite TV show or a movie for example, it would be advisable to adjust your power settings on your laptop to ensure that the laptop does not go to sleep, hibernate or shut down when you close the lid.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO MAKE THE (OPTIONAL) CHANGES TO YOUR POWER SETTINGS:
1. Go to power settings. You can do this by typing power settings in the search box on the bottom left of your screen in the toolbar - if your toolbar is set out this way.
2. Select 'power and sleep settings' option which appears.
3. When power and sleep screen appears, select 'additional settings' on right hand side of screen under related settings.
4.When 'choose or customize a power plan screen' appears, select 'choose what closing the lid does' from the left hand menu.
5. 'Define power buttons' screen appears.
6. Next to 'when I close the lid' option appears, choose 'do nothing' for both battery and 'plugged in'.
7. Close the windows accordingly.
To finalise the setup of outputting your laptop to the TV using an HDMI Cable, there are various DISPLAY SETTING OPTIONS you can adopt:
1. DUPLICATE SCREEN - where the laptop and TV screen match each other in terms of content.
2. EXTEND THESE DISPLAYS - Enables you to output different information on your laptop and the television, so you have essentially two different screens.
3. SHOW ONLY ON 1 - This option shows our laptop screen only.
4. SHOW ONLY ON 2 - This option shows out TV screen only, but you can retain full control of your screen by using a mouse if your laptop lid is closed.

U have to change put it hdmi 1 change the input to hdmi 1
Press Input on TV Remote then select HDMI port

I just get no signal after plugging in the hdmi. It does not show the laptop screen

Use a 3.5 mm audio cable connected from laptop to headphone jack of tv or sound bar.
Have you figured out how to get HDMI CEC working so that the Bravia behaves like a regular monitor and turns on and off with the PC?

Easily connected but there is one issue. That is the taskbar in 2nd display is cut from left right and bottom side. I want to share image with you. So you can easily understand my issue/ problem

This works great on my old laptop, but it doesn't work on my new HP laptop with windows 11. The TV does not recognize the laptop as being connected. When I plug in my windows 10 laptop, the screens duplicate perfectly using the hdmi cable. ???

It should. I rescued a totally broken screen laptop from a yard sale free box years ago set it up with vga adapter to listen to podcasts and my archive data dvd files and photo/video files that my bluray player can't play.
I have a PC with RTX2060 GPU, and I'm not able to connect it to my TV thru HDMI cable. I tired the same HDMI cable and connected it to normal PC monitor, and it worked. I'm Not sure why it is not working with My TV ! Can you please advise if there's any settings/configuration I have to make in My pc to be able to connect it to my TV?
i think theres a mode on the tv that you have to set to hdmi just like the steps you do to access a video from a usb flashdrive.

What should i do if the resolution on the tv is different than the laptop
My tv shows up fine as screen and it shows the name of the tv. But it doesnt show up as a sound output option. I have no idea how to fix this :/
The screen is cracked, which is why I’m using the tv. It worked before, but now it’s showing up on the tv when it loads to turn on, but not when it’s done loading. So I don’t know what to do.

I have a desktop computer with Windows 10 installed. I have the hdmi cable connected from my computer to my tv. When I select hdmi1 on my tv Windows sets my tv as Display 1. But I want my tv as Display 2. I have been unable to change the tv from Display 1 to Display 2 in the Settings Display screen. I finally unplugged the hdmi cable to my tv. I restarted Windows and the display Settings reverted my computer monitor back to the desired Display 1 and I don't have a connection to display my tv as a second monitor. I noted in this video that the Tech Guru selected the hdmi on his tv and then plugged in the hdmi cable to his computer. I tried that but when I click the link Advanced Displayed Settings it shows that my tv is still Display 1 and my computer monitor is Display 2. So, I unplugged the hdmi cable to my tv. I restarted Windows and the display Settings reverted my computer monitor back to the desired Display 1 and I still don't have a connection to display my tv as a second monitor. Anybody have any thoughts as to the steps such that my computer monitor is set to Diplay 1 and my tv will be set to Display 2?
Is there any delay when clicking or typing on the tv screen?

So if I have a non smart tv but I want to watch Pluto tv or other freevyv apps from my laptop I can connect a simple hdmi cable to it and my tv????? And go thru power management folder to be able to close lid?? Ok I'm gonna try it wish me luck.

I plugged in my hdmi to my tv from my Asus Tuf f15 and the screen started to turn off and on every 3 seconds and the screen also started to zoom out and in. Anyone help?
You show detail putting in plugs. But it would really be helpful to see what you actually did on the TV remote to get to HDMI
Suggestion:
1> Press "Source" button of a generic remote control.
2> Navigate to "HDMI-2" using the arrow keys.
3> Press "OK".
This will change the source of the TV display to "HDMI-2". Hope this solves your problem.

Hi Nancy Barrios. Best check your display settings to ensure output is set correctly. Go to windows settings (Shortcut is Windows key + I) then system display. Would also be worth checking your cables are plugged in securely. Hope you manage to sort. Thanks.
