- Can We Safely Uninstall Microsoft Edge Yet?
A lot of people hate Microsoft Edge and don't even want it on their windows 11 operating system, but Microsoft wont allow you to uninstall Edge browser from your Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC or any other version of Windows that has Microsoft Edge on it. So you may of seen many ways to remove Microsoft Edge from your PC, but a lot of there videos are now obsolete and also, removing Microsoft Edge and WebView2 can break the Windows operating system, so is it real worth the hassle? No, just leave it alone.
EU users have the right to uninstall Microsoft Edge by european law. They can uninstall Microsoft Edge due to the European Union's (EU) Digital Markets Act (DMA)

Incredible that they patch loopholes to removing a browser, a browser!
That's Microsoft for you
It's spyware that doesn't detect in any program. Also this program was flagged as malicious by Virus Total and Windows Smart Screen. Malware Bytes didn't flag it but that really doesn't mean anything.
Only in the EU. The Europeans have better consumer protection. I expect that they will allow for disabling the Microsoft Recall tracking software as well.
Lets hope so
Been in the EU,but don't have that option, probably because the installation is in US English, real funny 😜
" if you don't like Microsoft's operating system, don't use it..." Has it still not dawned on Britec09 that this would only realistically possible if Microsoft wasn't a monopolist?!
true i am forced to usd Windows at school (on my personal laptop)🤦
I have removed Edge for 3 years now and I did not get problem since that.
That means you don't use WebView2 daily. I always use that because I am using a visual studio for programming.
I live in the E.U. and use LTSC W10, I have recently updated one of my P.C.s to W11 LTSC and uninstalled Edge. No problems found so far.
Did you remove WebView2?
Edge is essentially modern Windows' IE.
Not sure you can get rid of it for good outside of the EU, but you can totally stop its use, which lets you disable Edge as a background service and remove its files with no issues. This involves disabling and refusing to use everything that relies on WebView2 and perhaps also using an Edge redirector so stuff like F1 help would use your actual browser instead. Updates would still try to re-DL Edge, but if it's completely unused, you could easily delete it again as if it's junk files.
Fortunately in my case, there's no WebView2 app/feature I really need. I have Edge disabled and unused since 22H2.
Brian, I've used your Registry File to uninstall Edge. Please let others know that if one uninstalls it, they will lose the ability to use Quick Assist. Thanks Brian and have a momentous weekend!💥
Thanks for the tip!
@@Britec09 I'm glad to be able to help you Brian. I use Windows 10 Professional, and eat up your videos on Troubleshooting errors. In this way I will be better prepared to troubleshoot Windows after the End of Days for Windows 10 Support. Thanks💥!
Webview is basically a plugin that allows programs to embed a webbrowser without having to include an actual browser in the code.
I uninstalled Edge several years ago using the excellent CTT tool, along with the MS Store apps as well. No issues until recently when a modmanager for a game required the Webview, so had to reinstall that component...
I remember when you couldn't remove Microsoft Internet explorer either. The browser is part of the operating system for security reasons.
I removed Edge and Webview on my 4 machines and the only issues were with some MS Apps which stayed in the older versions and they did gets updated through the store, no other issues for me, since then I've put back Webview just for the apps I use
You dont really NEED to remove it, you can just turn it off. And install your favourite apps to do the jobs it was doing. The HARDEST part is turning off all the stupid defaults that try to make EDGE open files it cannot open. Firefox, VLC and a music player of your own choice fixes 99% of the EDGE issues. At least VLC can open the files that EDGE cannot. Chrome will work aswell, as will ANY other browser you might like from the hundreds avavilable. Webview2 is really a harmless utility that many softwares, not only Microsoft ones, need to work correctly on a modern PC. I no longer get the 50 open processes that EDGE had running on start up, it's still in my PC, but has no effect on it anymore.
EU users should be able to remove MS Edge, however, Webview2 is not removable at all. When EU users removed Edge and Bing, they are not really removing those products. Microsoft disables these two products where they do not run based on what I have read about it so far. In my test W11 24H2 VirtualBox guest OS that I tested with removing MS Edge, this causes updates via Windows Update not to install. If any updates try to install, they get stuck in "Restart" mode and SFC shows errors. In short, Microsoft seems to be playing with EU but allowing those users to essentially disable these products. However, there is a way to stop MS Edge from automatically opening MSN at startup, this is another issue. If you want to decrease Edge's telemetry, turn off Diagnostic and feedback options in Settings > Privacy & security. Good video on this topic.
I tried many times. However, I gave up and accepted the defeat

I uninstalled Edge a few weeks ago, and it's still there, cuz if you click the Temperature / news wicket, then open a news article, it opens Edge - regardless of if you've uninstalled
I already did uninstall edge about a month ago. But i might reinstall it at a later time😮
I just delete the desktop shortcut and use chrome instead at this point , also installed PC Manager to stop any unwanted tasks like edge. PC Manager isn't available in the UK yet But just changed my region to US and downloaded it from Microsoft store. I did on multiple occasions delete Edge but it just reinstalls itself or breaks stuff.
I've tried giving Firefox a go and so far from my testing on my pc, if all you're doing is web browsing its amazing. Its when you try to run youtube or any streaming platform the cpu and gpu usage goes way up, the pc stutters and is freezing while memory usage goes way up. I have about 30-35 chrome tabs up and yes its using a lot of memory but its stable and very little stuttering and freezing.
I've always removed with Bye-Bye Edge and never had any problems
If you don't use Windows you won't have this problem. Maybe the question should be, "what operating system(s) do not install Microsoft Edge by default and/or offer a way to uninstall it?"
The answer would be, pretty much every operating system out there not produced by Microsoft and referred to by the name Windows.
i do not use edge, it does not get in my way and my P.C works just fine as it is so can't see why people are so obsessed with removing it. Probably the same people that keep having problems and blame Microsoft.
I just leave Edge on system and don't use it
I removed Edge because I heavily modify the browser for productivity (like blocking sites, setting time limits, etc), and I only want to set up one browser. Leaving Edge on the system gives me an opportunity to circumvent my productivity controls, which is like drugs for my ADHD brain.
It is just annoying if it will not affect my experience. I'll not complain. It is keeping re-default himself as a browser. Some pages only work with it. even though you choose another browser, it keeps going back to the task bar even if you unpinned it. If i say no, it means no. And if it is a good browser i will use it just to push micrsoft products. It is like we know what you like better than yourself.
I did find some problem's when removing WebView it really does brake applications that depend on it.
I also delete Windows Store & all the apps that come with it.
Also when you remove Windows Media Player you will not be able to lunch GTA5 only way I found the fix was to fresh install Windows again.
Always backup before messing the system using default Restore from Windows or a better utility. Yes Microsoft restore is not perfect.
System runs perfect without Edge, Defender, Windows Store, pre installed bloat.
I also disable lots of services & autostarts for certain apps
Interesting. I'm not at all tech-savvy, so I have only disabled Edge in Startup and removed the icons wherever possible, as I didn't feel safe about getting rid of it altogether.
However, I did uninstall CoPilot about a week ago without any apparent issues that I can see. Have you removed it as well?
The only reason I ask is to reassure myself that I've done the right thing. Thanks.
@@EIRE55 yes I cut out CoPilot. Edge some people leave to open PDF files. Although I prefer Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro for PDF.
Microsoft needs to be put in their place. I actually tried Linux mint on my laptop. The only thing that detracted me from getting rid of Windows is didn't work very well with the touch screen on my laptop. Otherwise, it detected all of my sound video, Wi-Fi, even our printer
Linux is not perfect, but its a viable option for a lot of people, unless you need something that Linux can't do that Windows does.
Wrong desktop environment for touch screens. You need GNOME, Ubuntu or Fedora should sort that out.
For laptops I would install Fedora.
Nobody cares for Linux
@@mrbigsausage6918
The Microsoft Cloud runs on Linux servers. Google runs on Linux servers. And a lot more...
Ask RedHat who their customers are!
Android is also based on Linux.
You have no idea.
Thanks for highlighting Webview, as my BitDefender firewall keeps asking me if I want to allow it to access the internet. Hardly a day goes by without it nagging me, as it seems to change/update itself regularly. So, I wonder what would happen if I blocked it? 🤔
Thank you for the opportunity to let me tell my opinion of Microsoft Edge. I am one that is angered by "new and improved". I find a product that I am very partial to and they go and invent "new and improved". Improved? By who's standards? I liked it just the way it was and the next thing you know they do not produce the original anymore. AND: Microsoft Edge is just one example of our constitutional rights are being taken away and we can not as an American citizen stop it. No. Hewlett Packard and Epson are another and neither one of them are strangers to a court room. Thank y'all!!!
I forgot something. These companies are ordering us , in the privacy of our own homes with products that we purchase/invest are telling us how things are "going" to be.
Thank you
I did it a while ago on Windows 11. It's easy to do.
There seems to be an awful lot of effort with put into fighting Microsoft Edge, Windows Update, and all the bloatware/adware.. then there is all the hardware that will become e waste due to Microsoft ridiculous hardware "requirements" for Win11. I agree that at the end the day it's time to use another OS.
I hope this isn't a stupid question but why would you want to remove Edge it's never been a problem to me personally over the years of using Windows and it's always worked and never been any problem not that I use it as my primary browser, I think that there has to be a line on something's that shouldn't be allowed to be removed when it comes to Microsoft and like you say if you don't like it go use a different operating system and that's how I feel, I understand people want to bedloat and remove apps running taking up resources but definitely some things should be left alone 😁
Edge is the best browser.. as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure why people worry about removing it.
I don't think you ever did a video on incremental and differential backups after a main backup
I can do that
My question now is what could be the exact differences between the official uninstall for EU users and third-party scripts like the one showed in the video. I'm very curious about that.
Probably not allowing you to uninstall WebView2 and Only EDGE. I will look in to it more
@@Britec09 I appreciate it, really. I'm also curious about Event Logger. Will the uninstall of Edge causes the Event Logger to spam errors nonstop?
Sorry, maybe I'm thinking too much about it 😆
Its all good mate, try not to worry about stuff you have no control over
Oh yeah. Im a self taught navigator of computer systems and everything involved. Well not everything because there is a lot yo computers but upon having to do a fresn reinstall of Windows, Microsoft Edge was embedded into my computer. Well. Download Google Chrome. This allows one to go onto defaults and make Chrome the default. Now. Unless some so called web/computer thinks they know what they are doing and Rdge snuck in. I did not lose Chrome but before hand. Edge was pretty much in the shadows, not seen and it was wonderful. Sadly temporary.
I hope to spread happiness everywhere!!!
I like Edge more than Chrome. If I'm honest, it I "need" to "give" someone information, it's rather Microsoft than Google. Edge does support all the add blocking extension without restriction.
You're not the only one. I also like Edge much much more than Chrome but my heart has always been with Firefox.
@John.Doe.X1 I think I will switch to Firefox, disabling so much telemetry as possible.
I uninstall it through revo, then i access the drive from the other OS (duel boot) and delete the remaining files on the drive. I dont use any of the apps that come with Windows or that you can download so no issues thus far for me but thats just me.
It would help if i could just stop the updates for it that run in the back, every month i get 1-4 crash's for something i have never used.
To be honest, I use Edge on my Windows machines and I have it on my Linux machines and for me It seems fine, but I also use other browsers too. Just depends on what I'm doing for I have different bookmarks on different browsers. Thanks.
Your discord ban is removed.
I tried to use firefox on Nobara.. but it spikes my CPU way too high. With edge, it's still well under 30% while watching a youtube video. So I'm not sure what's wrong with firefox, but I'm using Edge on linux.
Don't know if it is safe but I uninstalled the edge browser, working great
Use a private software installed like a whonix or tails or whatever software can be hidden IP addresses it would be not track . Do not uninstall otherwise crashed . Just better than os operating window. It would be fine .
I wouldn't be removing edge if microsoft forcefully imported my user data from chrome without explicitly asking my permission, but here we are. I opened the edge and all my private information was in there you could guess how creeped out I was when I saw that. I don't really have problems with the edge but this has to stop microsoft doing sh!t behind my back without my explicit permission is the red line, so edge goes to the chopping block today.
Nothings wrong with edge. Google Chrome uses too much and hogs memory so use edge if not use something like brave, vivaldi or firefox. I dont think firefox is bad, its not a chromium based browser thats pretty much it. I like the Read aloud feature on Edge. If you use something else you need an extension and buy it which is crap. I've used chrome for ages but for few years i've used edge and nothing bad about it so i dont know why uninstall it. But do what you want with it, its your PC at the end of the day.
There are other ways to remove edge.. Revo comes to mind.. you can remove a lot of things *xbox personally* I've removed edge before but it's no worse then chrome and I use firefox anyways.
I don't understand why people have a problem with edge it's actually very useful and it's built on chromium just like chrome.
I sure hope so
Not without breaking some apps
@Britec09 yeah, I have stayed away from all scripts and batch files to remove edge. I have accepted that they want to force it and there really is no great way around it. I'm not a fan of that mentality, however, we use their product and some things we just have to deal with 😂
Paying over £100 odd quid and still MS think they can tell you what you can and cannot have, disgraceful
Most people have upgraded every OS for free, so they have not done to bad for there £100. its their OS mate
@@Britec09 slightly better, but the first there is still wrong. Try a spell checker mate.
@@Britec09 Grammar Police are back, Brian. It's "too" bad, and not "to bad", and "their £100" not "there £100". 😉
I still keep Microsoft edge maybe in the future all people can use normal browsers but now edge comes together with windows system l think to dangers take everything out of computer 🖥
its just going to "covertly" install itself again on the next series of updates... just like copilot...
I uninstalled CoPilot about a week or so ago, and have been keeping a close eye out for it sneaking back in during updates.
So far, it doesn't seem to have reappeared.
The answer will always be No. Because many apps and services from manufacture still depend on edge's components.
Like Lenovo vantage wont work if you have egde uninstalled.
yes you can with scripts
@ulterior_motive1 That is correct, it breaks a lot of stuff.
Vantage still work with Edge uninstalled. I have been living without Edge for years now and Vantage still working very well, at least for battery conservation feature only. It's the Webview that need to be left alone.
Im from EU and I just checked. I can uninstall Edge but not Webview from Apps.
i am in germany
and checked too
the option to uninstall edge or web view is both grayed out
flatpak install edge
flatpak uninstall edge
Simple, easy and containerized. As safe as spyware can be.
Honestly would love a new system rather than windows or linex loathe Google and Microsoft.
Not going to happen mate
i use firefox, edge, chrome...
firefox 60%
edge 35%
chrome 5%
all browsers... no problems at all
chrome is a memory hoarder...less chrome tabs...less use...
So is firefox.. I just use edge exclusively
do you use Edge?unstall it?
In the EU, where I live, you can uninstall Edge.
Can you uninstall WebView2 as well?
How about Microsoft store?
Wise Uninstaller, force uninstall 1min gone. Webview I left, I didn't know what it was.
I never use edge.
Edge is like herpes! It just keeps coming back! I got SOOOOOOO TIRED of trying to get rid of it! How about just NOT USING IT??? Leave it sit there, and don't use it...
Why does Microsoft hate it's customer so much by doing this stuff??
Maybe because it mistakenly think it's so superior to all others, and can do whatever it wants.
It's also in cahoots with the NWO plans, so there'll no such thing as online privacy.
We'll own nothing, and we'll certainly not be happy.
They want you to use there browser
@@Britec09 Nope. Use Opera and Chrome at present.
I safely uninstalled Edge by deleting Windows and going full time Linux. (sorry, I had to say it, lol)
If you're not happy with Operating Systems like Windows, macOS, Linux, etc. Create your own OS.
Like you said, plenty of other options.
lol
it is not that simple i am forced to use Windows for school thought..... 🤦
interesting topic
Thanks
If Edge is removed, how will it affect access to Hotmail/Outlook email? 2nd question, when will Microsoft get rid of that ridiculous looking blue toilet paper image? It always reminds me of COVID-19 as there was a run on toilet paper when COVID started. Take a roll of toilet paper outside on a windy day, throw it up in the air and when it comes down it will look like that Windows 11 image.
Why not use your own image?
Hotmail/Outlook can be accessed via browser - so should be no problem
It’s frustrating. I guess I’ll just live with it.
Like I said, you can remove it if you don't use any of the apps it effects, but do your research.
why ?????
This is pointless. Edge just gets re-installed with every major update. Unfortunately, i'm not switching to Linux anytime soon since most of the apps I use don't have a Linux equivalent 😒😒💩💩
Delete Edge via a script and keep web view simple! I've done this for the past 4years on 11
But WebView2 is a major problem as well
Cumulative Update Nov 2024
Reinstall back Microsoft Edge even if I modified Registry
Remove edge but keep webview
Why uninstall? You can deactivate in task manager/ autostart, and that's it. is sitting on the SSD but does not consuming any resources.
I disabled Edge on startup, and uninstalled CoPilot, so I hope I haven't caused any problems by doing those.
I have ADHD and I have heavily modified Chrome for productivity. Having Edge on my computer is like a hidden stash of drugs for a drug addict.
it is time to move to linux
use linux, problem solved :D
might as well live in a cave, better than that crap.
yes you can with scripts
It still breaks stuff
@@Britec09 my friend used script did not break his pc
removing WebView2 will break apps I mentioned in video. If you don't use them apps, you might be OK.

If you use EdgeRemover it takes away everything, stops the annoying update and stops it reinstalling. You are talking bollocks once again like so many of your waste of time videos.
This video is mostly a fair warning about what could happen if you uninstall Edge (and webview), just as the title suggests.
@DaleMurray-h6s Dale, don't be that aggressive guy on the internet who can't back it up you plum, if that is you in the photo, I am shaking in my boots 😂idiot. Removing WebView2 break stuff, period.
@John.Doe.X1 He don't know what he's talking about, it breaks plenty of stuff removing WebView2. He probably don't use the stuff it breaks, so he assumes all is OK.
@@Britec09 I've used it for years and I do know what I'm talking about you dick. EdgeRemover only removes files associated with edge. Least I don't tell people to disable Recall, an app that has no exe file and isn't even installed on 11 24H2 yet.
