I don't believe MS about the default copilot not recording... it's strange that 8G-9G file appears on the computer after the update, and the reason you can't delete it is not because "mis-reading of the file structure" it's because it's an open\ hidden file and as we all know, you can't delete this type of file.

Why should I have to agree to allow a company to spy on me to just be able to purchase and use a product? What next? Do I have to allow a car company to spy on me to own a car? Do I have to allow a TV manufacturer to spy on me to own a TV? Do I have to allow a refrigerator manufacturer to spy on me to own a refrigerator? At what point, do we let corporations just run our lives and spy on us 24/7? If you want to be Microsoft's b*tch, go right ahead and be Micrsoft's b*tch. Yes, I CAN really stop Microsoft spying on Windows 11 - by simply not getting Windows 11. I have three Windows 10 PCs. By the end of this year, only one of them will still be running Windows 10, and that one will be permanently offline (it is already 99% offline anyway). So a fat lot of telemetry Microsoft will be able to harvest from that! The other two are in the process of being converted to Linux.
Thank you ... great explanation as usual. Couple of comments: 1. There is 'one more thing' that can be done to protect privacy ... pull the wire and keep windoze offline. A bit extreme perhaps, but I'm considering it. 2. You are correct, these tools are basically front ends. Every time I install windoze I pretty much blindly disable all 'features.' The BIG advantage of the tools is that, with some degree of confidence, the people who wrote these applications have put an enormous amount of thought into determining which 'features' may or may not need to be disabled, and have made this process very convenient. 3. Don't be too easy on microsoft. Sticking draconian conditions in their eula and activating hundreds of intrusive 'features' by default, knowing that we have little choice ... is not right. It would be like the government demanding a pint of blood to drive on the roads and telling us that "If you don't agree ... then don't use the roads." Owning the software doesn't mean they get to do anything they want, but they do and they get away with it ... because they can. 4. It is unacceptable that microsoft insists on adding hundreds of programs and 'features' which can be disabled but often not uninstalled. Some of these things are huge. We pay for this software and should certainly have a choice whether to install any, all, or none of the non-essentials on our own machines, because at best unwanted programs are a waste of resources, and at worst massive security holes. Programs like edge, their video and photo editors, xbox support (I don't own an xbox), one drive etc. etc. edge for example, can't be uninstalled and often opens up for ms related things, even though it is not our default browser (didn't they get sued for this?) During installation, there should be a page of choices (exactly like the tools you discussed), where we can decide to install, or not install, their recommended 'features.' It's not hard, they could do this if they cared.
Best switch off your mobile phone permanently then as that's calling home every few seconds jeez you tin foil hatters really do need sort your lives out.
@@Sirlarrythecat You make a good point Sir Larry, which is why I have never owned a mobile phone, and likely never will. Better that I sort out my life, than let microsoft do it for me.

Another approach is having two computers one is a internet computer and the other stays safe offline after it’s set up to your liking. Then the internet computer can do all the downloading etc.
If you do that in Windows 11 the file Explorer breaks, and nothing stops them from processing your information if you share it with someone who happens to be using Windows 11.

When I've disabled location in the past on Windows 10 it has messed up my timezone because it didn't know when daylight savings was. You can disable these things but they may break things in subtle ways.
Basically, turn off everything you don't need! If Windows doesn't let you disable something that you are really uncomfortable with, Linux may be your only option!
Finally, someone showed it right there in the EULA that you have no choice but to agree to in order to use Windows. Not saying it's right for Microsoft (or other companies) but that's the reality of a lot of these products and our privacy laws just don't protect end users. The EU and UK are more likely to force change for that region, but I don't see this happening in the US anytime soon.
The real question is whether there is any point in trying to stop Microsoft from spying on users. In every version of Windows it gets more and more complicated, I gave up the attempt, and moved to Linux, more precisely to Zorin and I am quite satisfied. Lightweight operating system and does everything I want.
Just because switching to Linux worked for you that doesn't mean its going to work out for everyone else. The reasons a lot of people don't switch to Linux is because they are used to the Windows user interface and like Brian said in his videos a lot of programs and games still don't work on Linux. If you don't use those programs or play those games that's fine but a lot of us do use those programs and play those games so switching to Linux isn't a realistic possibility if we want to keep using those programs and playing those games.
Nope: And here is the TLDR section from the new EULA- *Your Privacy*; *Your Content'*; *Section 2b* "... Microsoft products and Services, you grant Microsoft a worldwide and royalty free intellectual property licence to use Your content...". Go read it, I'm not making this up.
"b. To the extent necessary to provide the Services to you and others, to protect you and the Services, and to improve Microsoft products and services, you grant to Microsoft a worldwide and royalty-free intellectual property license to use Your Content, for example, to make copies of, retain, transmit, reformat, display, and distribute via communication tools Your Content on the Services. Beyond the PC, we all need to use whole home DNS blocking and beyond if possible to using IDS/IPS to sinkhole IP addresses which they hard code to bypass DNS lookups. It's not just Windows, it's smartphones, streaming boxes, smart TVs and IoT devices. In the end, whole home is the only option to control most of the things on your home network.
I got the idea to install Windows 11 Enterprise, then change the product key to the Windows 11 Pro generic key. Windows is now Pro and activated, but it saved me a lot of debloating since Enterprise has way less (It's the Windows 11 Business iso).
Actually, you can also install Windows 11 Pro, and when you go through the account setup, you select School or Work Account, and on the screen where you enter your email address, you can select the option for Use Domain Login (or something like that). It doesn't prompt you to log into a domain, but you get the super clean install with none of the junk normally installed.
All these scripts and software are actually great. I think no matter the best software, diagnostics and telemetry will never be disabled because in one of your videos, you said that in order for windows to update, it needs to know where you are, I am not exactly sure, but I think you have said it.
Hello Brian and thanks for video. What about the host file? Can we not just put entry there so Windows can't phone home to Microsoft? I know that important sevices like Windows update should be allowed. I know that you have to allow the change of host file in Microsoft Defender.

Hej Brian and thanks thanks for the video absolutely Brian you're absolutely right It's not possible to hide yourself completely when, using Windows or the internet on other devices. Then of course I think there's a bit too much tracking when we users out there use the internet and Windows but that's how it works. So you have to accept it if you want to use the internet, whether you like it or not. But of course, you can use the Linux operating system if you want to be less tracked. Linux has many nice distros, but personally, I prefer Windows 11. We're all different in terms of what we use and like, so the main thing is you use what works for you, whether you use Windows OS, Linux Distro, Mac, iPhone, or Android Phone. So I use Windows 11, Windows 10 and an Android Phone and, it works very well for me take care Brian and have a nice evening.
If you don't want Microsoft to spy on you, don't use Windows. Seriously guys, Linux is ready to be a desktop nowadays and the occasional tech headache is way less of a problem than managing your "customer relationship" with Microsoft.
Anything you do to "disable" something by Microsoft will be undone during the next update or patch. It's a war of attrition that you simply will not win. I'm really enjoying the learning curve with Linux, because I'm always learning something new and useful. On the other hand, every time I've had to go "under the hood" with Windows (edit Registry settings, config files, startup setting), it's been to stop Microsoft from doing something sh*tty to me.
Do you HAVE to be online or need the very latest version to get shit done? If everything is working perfectly why not take your Windows 10 workstation offline? Then, use only a "sacrificial" Linux laptop as your online funbag. If you need to transfer a file between them, use a USB stick. Do your own "cloud storage" with a mini RAID. Been doing this since 2017 and getting graphics and digital audio done in total peace. Not for everyone of course, but just think. . . OFFLINE there are no hacks, ads, nags, surveillance, telemetry, unknown installs or unwanted updates.
I find it easier just to block all MS domains at the firewall (hardware, not Windows Firewall) level , and then temporarily re-enable to do an update every month or two. There are several sites that show what domains and IP addresses which Windows reaches out to.
Is there a specific reason why recall needs to be disabled in non copilot+ PC when by default it's not configured or disabled. Except recall settings everything is always integrated through regkeys, ntlite and win10UI
Other than it using resources for no good reason we do not yet have any other known reason for disabling recall. But the reality is windows doesn't need AI to take snapshots of the user and everything they are doingand store it. You gotta look at the big picture. If everyone moves up to a copilot plus pc then there will be a local AI (AI that is specific to each computer) on every pc who's main function will be to learn/get to know the user intimately. It will know you so well that it will even know when your shopping taking a dump and etcetera, The only possible reason the AI could need to do this is to make an online profile(ID) of every user for future use by some one other than the user such as government. No doubt these local AI's will need to communicate (share data) with a main Hub in order to function properly! What people who think everybody is making much ado about nothing don't understand is your computer will do the snapshotting and data storing but it is the AI that will be managing that storage space. Note that if even without the AI if the data is stored then if some entity decides to label you a law breaker they can come arrest you and seize your computer an have an entire history within your computer to use against you. so even if you don't have a copilot plus pc microsoft still wins!

I mean you can do it offline, if you manege to run it like that by bypassing bunch of stuff? But , any update can re-enable everything- telemetry, recall, whatever. I just switched to Linux, it works pretty well. Just gotta figure out how to get graphic user interfaces for programs you need, and you have it handled. Honestly figuring out Linux is easier than figuring out how to turn off telemetry at this point.
Recall is designed to make it easier for businesses to monitor their employees. If you use a computer at work you don't really have much privacy anyway. And I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese game them money to develop it.
Microsoft makes the operating system. So long as you use it, they have all of their own back doors into your computer unless you have it not only powered off, but also disconnected from electricity to absolutely disable the hardware until it's repowered. But then you can't use it at all without it doing it's worst to you all the while. Or you can just format away every last byte of that malware and use something else.
Disable Recall all you want to. It'll persistently force-update you and turn it back on so they can bog down your computer to the point of uselessness harvesting you to their data base. That's what Windows 10 did when I stubbornly kept re-installing the proper video driver for an older PC after it force-updated me to an incompatible one, breaking the computer. The machine did meet the listed system requirements of Windows 10, but MIcrosoft decided to try and make me buy them a better computer to take over. Boycott MIcrosoft!

Look Brian I beleive that there is certain personal information has to be divulged when you want to use Microsoft's software such as who you are or because you are required to hand over money for that software. Having said that it has to be said that the legal people for Microsoft have taken this use of the software in jargonistic levels that are incredibly complicated and to the majority of us in term that might as well be in some Martian dialect. That is where the privacy stuff is embedded and try as you may they are quite able to "hack" your system whenevr they like - like it or not.
Assuming you want to disable these things, the thumbnail makes no sense. "Disable Telemetry = Off" and all the other features that way means it's enabled. (double negative)

Windows is this close to being a literal monopoly for computer operating systems only because some software we're using refuse to support Linux
Chris Titus is not an authoritative or competent person on this subject. He is a strange character who tries to make a bonus by bringing together free tools belonging to many others. Microsoft does not need Mpu to perform this operation. Giving the user the ability to turn them on and off is just a simple maneuver to reduce tension. Unfortunately, while Windows is a great operating system, Microsoft is doing everything it can to ruin it. Windows is no longer an ideal operating system.

Oh, you mean the agreement I have no choice but agree to in order to use the very product that I purchased? Why should I have to agree to allow a company to spy on me to just be able to purchase and use a product? What next? Do I have to allow a car company to spy on me to own a car? Do I have to allow a TV manufacturer to spy on me to own a TV? Do I have to allow a refrigerator manufacturer to spy on me to own a refrigerator? At what point, do we let corporations just run our lives and spy on us 24/7? If you want to be Microsoft's b*tch, go right ahead and be Micrsoft's b*tch. The rest of us are going to stand up to these corporations and not let them own us.

Very good information, Britec. Thank you so much.
My pleasure!
Britec sounds like Michael Caine 😉👍🏻
Thank you ... great explanation as usual. Couple of comments:
Edge can (and should?) be uninstalled, I certainly did; Glary Utilities -> Uninstaller. Free software.
Edge WebView2 Runtime should be left alone though; trouble with overall browsing, if removed.

Another approach is having two computers one is a internet computer and the other stays safe offline after it’s set up to your liking. Then the internet computer can do all the downloading etc.
The most important necessity: disable ALL artificial intelligence, the #1 enemy.
If you do that in Windows 11 the file Explorer breaks, and nothing stops them from processing your information if you share it with someone who happens to be using Windows 11.

I only use Windows at work. At home it is all Linux. The writing was on the wall years ago.
10:39 that is its purpose but most of the time it's annoying because if you want to use someone else's programme that they haven't signed then it asks you if you want to run it, it's most likely a way for microsoft to get people to sign they're executables and earn more money so that people who don't know how it works will be scared by the pop-up
You could probably block most of it by installing a software firewall, problem is knowing what stuff to block
fun part is i have mine set as an 'allow-list' ie if i did not specifically authorize it in mine, it's not communicating.
Thanks, Brian! 👍🏼
We can only do what we can do to protect out interests, and (to me anyway) Linux is looking better and better all the time. 🙃
I would like to thank both you and Chris this works like a charm. I watch both of you often to get the best info. I recently switched to a Geekom XT3 mini pc after watching your mini pc episode, although you didn't show them. The 3 year warranty is why I went with them, and the have great customer service.
What do you mean by "your content" ? What content is that ? Also, can I uninstall copilot from a laptop that has a copilot key ? This year's models of Asus all have a copilot key.
If you haven't suspected Windows of being backdoored legally and programmatically for years, you're _way_ behind in the game.

Thank you, really great information.

Hello Brian and thanks for video.

I think people re just making mountain out of a molehill with the Recall on non-Copilot+PC assumption.
It's turned on as default and installed on anyone who recieved the 24H2 update, it doesn't need AI.

you mentioned other operating systems. Are there people on this channel that can suggest what is currently a better alternative.
For a big company like microsoft, That say how much they respect peoples privacy. They dont half take the piss ! 😉
