  • *CORRECTION: The word you need to write down is 정부 검역 which means Government Quarantine* This video will provide an in-depth look at the screening process you have to go through when you get off the plane in South Korea. As well as an explanation of the flight before coming to Korea with the new COVID mandate in place.

    This video was helpful but I did a little more digging because the requirement for covid tests is within 72 hours of your departure date and not the arrival date. I emailed the Korea consulate and they confirmed the issued date of results (not the day of swab collection) is used for the 72 hour requirement prior to departure.
    Their example: If you travel on Weds, March 10th, you should at least be issued your results by the Sunday, March 7th. Getting tested on Saturday would have been safe since results usually come within 24-72 hours. Just wanted to share that information. Thank you for sharing the quarantine process! 😀

      thanks for sharing this info!! So basically the date of the swab collection doesn’t fall into the 72hr requirement?

    • @ekim8958
      @ekim8958 3 роки тому

      @@El-rs4rx Korea does not go by the swab date. Instead, they go by the issued date and the exact hours does not matter. My flight was on a Friday night near midnight so what I did was took a PCR test on Monday and Tuesday. I received results on Tuesday and Weds. I took both results in case but handed the latest issued date on Weds. The airlines asked for my covid test before departure as well as in Korea after landing. I landed at 5am and my korean contact was sleeping so we couldn’t move forward until she picked up to confirm she knows me. I’m here in Korea and will be released in 2 days. I would suggest bringing an electric pot because the food comes cold everyday. Lol

      @@MOMO_Concerts Okay, update: 시설격리희망 didn't work in my case. You have to tell them 정부 검역 (Government Quarantine), because the first description doesn't necessary tell them you need governmental quarantine facility. They'll tell you the cost is 2.1 million KRW at the airport, but it's actually 1.68 million KRW when you check in at your hotel. I stayed at a separate facility for the first night because my temperature was quite high (I've tried everything!) and they had me tested, which I didn't get my result back until the next morning. • @bridget111
    @bridget111 3 роки тому +1

    Thank you so much for this video! I wish I had seen this before arriving in Korea because this is the most detailed explanation of the arrival process that I’ve heard yet! As someone who arrived at the end of August 2021 (writing this from quarantine now) the process is pretty much still the same as what you explained. I had the same issue with writing down the address of where I am staying AFTER the government facility quarantine and that did cause a hold up. I didn’t see a place where you could purchase SIM cards, so I highly suggest purchasing one beforehand or asking a Korean friend if they are ok with receiving a call on your behalf. I also agree completely that anyone traveling to Korea should be patient with the airport staff.
    The process was short for me, but I did have an issue with the visa check point due to previously having a long term visa. I entered this time as a short term tourist, but they needed to make sure I understood that I was to go to a quarantine facility and not straight to the address I wrote down. If you have previously/recently had a long term visa but enter in a short term one, be prepared for an extra checkpoint!
    I also wanted to share that because covid cases are on the rise in the US, it may take 48-72 hours to get your results back. I read that the test needs to be done within 72 hour of boarding your flight to Korea, not arriving in Korea. I took mine exactly 72 hours before my departure time and it came back “not detected” (aka negative) the night before I left. It was a bit stressful, but had no issues with that during the arrival process!

      It's up to you. I don't think the airport screening was too bad (if everything goes smoothly) or unbearable if you're coming for a while. I think my biggest concern is if things are open or not to go and explore. Currently South Korea has restricted gatherings up to 5 until about February 14th, and they might increase the time on that. So I'm not 100% sure how open everything will be here. If you're just coming for a leisure trip to explorer, I would probably recommend waiting until things calm down a bit so more things can be open. Sorry I cant be of more help :(

    Hello, just wanted to confirm, as of now it is required we quarantine for 14 days so is it not possible to only travel there for less time like a week? Also for those who will be required to stay in government facility does this basically mean we shouldn’t book any hotel at all?

    • @MOMO_Concerts

      Yes if you have less than a week to travel you shouldn't come to Korea. You dont need to book accommodations for those 2 weeks you'll be quarantined but afterwards youll need a place to stay so I recommend looking at accommodations for after it before leaving for your trip

      So the SIM card provides you data which is essentially wifi, so if you are ordering food online or through a website you should be able to do it. However if it's something you have to call in, you wont be able to do it because that specific SIM card doesn't allow you to make calls. However, if you have a Korean contact, you dont need that SIM card at station 2 and you can preorder a true SIM card (one with data and ability to make calls) and pick it up outside of customs. Im sorry I really dont know the answer to this. I can give you my best thoughts to try to calm your worries though.
      If China is requiring a new pcr test from the transit country, there is no way that Korea doesn't have a system set up for people in that situation. I dont know what the system is, but they have to have one. I know there is a hotel there for people that need to get tested at the airport (a person I met had to do it because her temperature was too high) and stay in for the night to wait for the results so my best guess is you would be doing that.
      My advice would be to type out your situation in a translation app (I recommend Papago because it saved me in Korea) and when you get to the first station show them what you typed and the translated version on the app.
      I hope it all works out for you! Sorry I cant be of more help!
