I lived most of my life in Korea, but several years ago, I visited Germany without any company. I once left my phone in one of the toilets in a large train station. Luckily, a young man found that and returned it to me. There were several other occasions that I left my stuff but locals were kind enough to give it back to me even after several hours. Of course I might be just lucky, but I think we all are good and kind people, and want to believe that we Koreans are not that special. The big focus on appearance obviously has good sides and bad sides, but one aspect I absolutely love about it is all the amazing Korean skincare! They really care about the ingredients and formula being good for the skin. A lot of k-beauty products don't really include denatured alcohol, sulfates, parabens, silicones and unnecessary fragrance like a lot of western brands do (not all of them of course). Most of my skincare products are Korean and it feels like a dream to use them!

Almost all foreigners don't even keep this basic fact. I have only seen one foreigner who truly understands Korea in all my life. So I recommend foreigners not to come to Korea. This is unfortunate for both sides. The culture here is so different that you'll never accept it. And foreigners, don't say wrong prejudices about Korea. For example, suicide rates or plastic surgery are not true. Koreans don't like foreigners because of all these misunderstandings

Why should we abandon our ways and our culture? Is it so hard to understand that mono-ethnic countries like Korea and Japan can be different? Why do foreigners hide their shortcomings and only highlight Korea's shortcomings? It is not Koreans but foreigners who cause problems here. I have never heard the news that a foreigner was attacked in Korea, but I have heard the news that a Korean was attacked in a foreign country thousands more times. Korea is rather too generous to foreigners. Do you think we don't know that you foreigners always ignore, gossip, and antagonize Korea with wrong prejudice? Don't bother us, just get out of here

Born and raised in Korea and moving to America has broaden my eyes very much. I can tell you with confidence that if I were kept living in Korea I would have been more conservative and introverted. One thing I didnt like about living in Korea was that there was no much of individual characteristics. People all wear what others wear and do whatever others do. But coming here in the States I learned more about myself, what I like and what I really want. As you said I would not say its either good or bad thing but I do think that its definitely good for you experience both and find the balance.

i am an exchange student in seoul, staying here for one semester and i want to comment on the quiet culture. so far everywhere i'd been in seoul, there was the quiet and respectful culture in public places, cafes, buses, shops, metros... then i went on a one week bicycle journy to busan, and oh are they loud in the countryside. the quiet culture is much less present in the villages. i took online classes in cafes whilst on the road and the customers in the cafes were so loud i could barely hear my lectures. just an example that i think is very valuable to share.

Im Korean living in the west and thats sth i really miss as well, the sense of community, respect and companionship for others.
In korea, kids as young as 6 go out by themselves to school or playground etc... cuz we don't teach the kids the idea of strangers danger, instead teach them to ask for help from any random adults if needed. Parents also have a faith in the society and others that if my child is in difficulties, people will voluntarily help them out.
Thats a sense of trust shared in the society, dont get me wrong that there are many social issues in korea too and koreans are very critical of social problems and injustice.

I live in England and used to live in Korea, and the biggest misconception I've found amongst people in England about Korea, is they seem to think Korea is a hot country. When in reality, it's only hot during summer.
No joke, when I told people in England that Korea has harsh winters far colder than England, 100% of the people I've told this to have reacted with surprise. It isn't uncommon to see temperatures below -10C in korea in winter. I've experienced days when it is -18C (0F) in Seoul, so it amuses me when people assume Korea is some year-round hot country like Thailand.

Alone and with family or friends..

work at restaurants & cafes & filds of education, etc.. The villages look like a small town of EU countries. Korea is relatively open society to neighborhoods.
