I found your channel about two weeks ago while looking for restaurant recommendations in NYC, and you have such a great camera presence. You are so honest, yet positive in your videos!!
Hi James! Wow what a great review...I have goosebumps from watching this delicious presentation. Thanks for treating us with this trip. It seems like only yesterday you were there.❤🥩🍷
$150 for a dinner at Delmonico’s is a great bargain. I need to be in NYC next restaurant week. BTW, you should have WAY more subscribers given your content!
As a fellow epicurean, l love how you dine solo in such a wide array of restaurants but really put the top guys to the test..a great re-review and as usual, looking forward to your continued critiques cuz I'm glued! Great job James, great meal, what can l say? Excellent!
Hi James, Thank you for your return visit to Delmonico’s. I’m retired in Canada 🇨🇦 but I love your food reviews around the world and especially NYC. I was most interested in the comparison between your visit to Delmonico’s last year and this recent meal. Dry vs wet aged beef and all. I can’t thank you enough for the entertainment that you provide. Best Wishes, Peter
Your first experience with Delmonico is why I started watching. You didn’t mispronounce, you researched facts. Most of all you were and continue to be authentic. Great selection of restaurants, btw!
I’ve been watching your videos for a year and have enjoyed seeing your growth as a video maker. I hope to see some future videos with others at the table with you. You do a great job showing the joy the food provides, but the full dining experience goes beyond the food. Would be great to see how the restaurant adds to the overall social experience. Wishing you another year of happiness and success.
Hi James what a nice dining experience at Delmonico’s the exterior building is iconic, the interior looks amazing. That crab cake looked delicious! The main event dish “steak “ I’m sure was very tasty and well worth it . Thank you James for sharing your dining experience with us. Jose P.
Excellent review. I vaguely remember a reprinted menu from Delmonicos in 1899 (rate of conversion is roughly $38 USD to $1 USD, 2024 to 1899). Caviar was $1.00, Beef tourandos (filet mignon I think) $2.50, foie gras $1.00, double baked mashed potatoes, 0.80. Total was $5.30. Today's money, $201.40. Not counting desert or wine. Classy even then. Loved you enjoying that bone-in ribeye!
First time viewer. Excellent review. What I like most is that you use a voice over in the restaurant for the video. You don't babble in the restaurant!
I'm fairly new to your vlogs and I'm hooked. I like your straightforward style of criticism and the POV format a lot. Kudos to the intrepid solo diner!
Looked amazing. Their history is incredible. I could go on for several thousand words about my memories of this iconic restaurant. I'll spare y'all...LOL. Thanks for a great review James. Cheers
What a wonderful experience. That crab cake was like no other I've seen. I also appreciate your well informed comments on the differences between the two steaks offered at this establishment. May you always maintain the kind of metabolism that will allow you to easily consume such a big damn piece of meat.
You have mentioned in previous videos that you don't often go to the same place twice, and how that give people a distorted view of a restaurant. So it was nice to see you go back to Delmonico's. I feel they offer a very good value restaurant week menu.
James that was wonderful thank you! This may sound crazy, but it was the crab cake that was the highlight for me! Thanks for sharing your experience! Cheers!
Great review! This Saturday I had lunch at the classic Au Pied de Cochon in the les Halles area of central Paris and the total bill came to 92,70€. Whilst viewing the menu I sipped on a Negroni and decided to order a la carte: for starters I took 3 oysters (fines de Claire no2) and a portion of welks (sea snails). This was served with butter from Bretagne, dark bread, vinegar with shallots and mayonnaise to have with the welks. In addition there was baguette on the table plus the tab water that I ordered together with 1/2 bottle of Muscadet white whine from the Loire Valley. As main I took the deboned and stuffed pigs trotter served with potatoes and chanterelles mushrooms. For dessert I took a classic Vacherin that was so massive I could only eat a third. Finally a cup of coffee. A 2 hour lunch! 92,70€ !!!
Everything looked delicious! I personally prefer the filet mignon cut. I wonder how that taste there. Also the crab cake looks delicious. If I come to NY before the year is out I will put this on my list. Thanks for the review!!
Our local Morton's Steakhouse in Northern Virginia do that all the time with their specials. Reducing portion size of salad and side dishes by about a third. I've never seen cash discount offer anywhere in the DC area. Very unique to NYC?
Yeah, the only places I see that offer cash discounts are usually more casual affordable small business spots. Delmonico's is the only fine dining restaurant I've seen that offers a cash discount.
Everything was excelente James. The meal and your video quality. Now all you need is to invest in a nice sports jacket to play the part when you go to place's like this 🙂
Nothing better than a great steakhouse, and the traditional dishes that few do well. The crab appetizer looked generous, but I’m lost on what it was sitting on (mashed potatoes?). The creamed spinach looked excellent and the desert also looked delightful. Looks like Delmonico’s is back stronger than ever. Really enjoyed the review, thank you James.👍💕🥩
That looked absolutely fantastic! So much history and the food done so well and fairly reasonably compared to other well known New York restaurants. My mom watched with me and asked why you don't try the coffee with the dessert and why you don't put on a tie. Otherwise I always enjoy your reviews so much.
Thank you so much! Yeah, coffee would've paired so well with that dessert, but I try to not have coffee that late in the day. It would keep me up pretty late.
Wow the cook on that steak is perfection, really beautiful. I exclude steakhouses from consideration during Restaurant Week for the exact same reasons that you mentioned, but it looks like Delmonico's may be the exception (adds to list of iconic NYC restaurants to try). I love a menu refresh too, keeps things exciting and customers returning. Can't wait for the next one... missing a FOOT lol
Yeah, you really have to be careful with steakhouses during Restaurant Week, but Delmonico's came through. Haha! Yeah, next week's review had a Restaurant Week menu that kind of annoyed me.
Love all your videos my friend. I am also a big fan of the steakhouse scene and have been to all the steakhouses on your playlist ;p. One request I have would be to review a Brazilian steakhouse. I've never personally been to one but I hanging out with this Korean girl that keeps talking about them so I am curious to try one. Thanks bro !!!!
I'm not super into steakhouses because I prefer seafood and smaller portions overall, but definitely have a soft spot for Delmonico's and really like them. Also, you summed up restaurant week perfectly but some places can still pull it off well and seems like they're one of them.
It's back to being one of the worlds great restaurant's. It was the greatest steak house in the world in the Robber Baron era.The setting is pure Manhattan in the best since of the word. Good review - I haven't been there in 40 years ...have to go back to NY next year afters it's cleaned up a bit.
Another great, informational video! How awesome to see a restaurant that offers both wet- and dry-aged steaks! A lot of my friends think I'm nuts, but I prefer a wet-aged steak. The blue cheese "funk" of a dry-aged steak isn't for me...especially when you get an especially strong bite. How was the Spinach compared to Keen's? That meal was a great deal!
Thank you! That's fair enough. Wet-aged steaks are still great. I feel like the texture of the creamed spinach was better at Keens, but Delmonico's had a slight edge in terms of flavor. I think I would have to have them side by side to be able to say which is the best.
Coming in December and we are booking a reservation at Delmonico's - it's a tough choice between this and some of the newer steak houses, such as Keen's, but Delmonico's is so iconic - hate to miss that opportunity.

Fabulous value for Restaurant Week. Only thing I would change is the wine. I would go with the Stags Leap Hands of Time red wine (blend of Cab, Merlot, and Malbec). Decent value at $25/glass.
James; super deal! I love that bone-in ribeye & the restaurant week offer was a bonus! In Miami we have our Miami Spice restaurant week deals! Super video😅
Hi James, I'm tempted to eat a steak. Problem is, where I live in the suburbs of Sydney, the steaks are a bit ordinary and usually overcooked. I think I'll buy a ribeye from the butcher next week and cook it myself, which I've done in the past. Yeah, Delmonico's is how a restaurant should be. Good to see them offering alternative deals for the cash-strapped. Thank you and all the best, my friend !
Its great tou had an all around win with your meal. I notice you get creamed spinach often. I can only guess what you get are different from what I was servec. 13:35
I remember dining here with my boyfriend back in the late 90s, I think (I remember Clinton’s motorcade drove by another evening). Anyhow…the restaurant was lovely, the service wonderful. The food, for me (once I was able to eat it), was outstanding. My boyfriend however, sent his steak back…TWICE? Our waiter was dumbfounded and I was absolutely mortified! I saw nothing wrong with either steak. He insisted gristle was present. Needless to say, I wasn’t eating without him and my meal was stone cold by the time he sent his steak back the second time. Of course, the waiter graciously rewarmed it for me. Had I been a bit wiser/more confident I would have excused myself from that embarrassment (him, not the restaurant) and hailed a cab home.
What an incredible deal!! I'm not even hungry but your review made me want to go get a steak. I need to time my next visit to NYC during restaurant week 😅
James, another excellent review. I have a question for you. Since you revisited Delmonico's. do you ever return to restaurants which you reviewed and say at the end, I'll definitely be back". For example your review of Minetta Tavern's Black Label Burger was one of my favorites you've done. You were awestruck by The Black Label Burger and I don't blame you because it is my favorite Burger by far as well. Have you been back to Minetta on your free time? Have you been to any other restaurant that you have reviewed again? Just curious because I tend to go to my favorites even though I like variety like you too. And btw, I also thing that the Black burger is one of the greatest dishes I've eaten, but you have to try the steaks at Minetta. Hane a nice week!
Thank you! Yes, I do go back to these restaurants occasionally. However, I also really enjoy trying new places and it's better to post a variety of videos rather than just showcase the same spots. Yeah, I've really been wanting to get back to Minetta Tavern specifically for their steaks.
Man, just love James’s reviews . Feels like you’re there .

Yeah, having the right or wrong dining partner can really influence the experience.
Hey James, been following you for a while. You should make a list and rank all the restaurants you've eaten at from your most liked to least liked.
I might do that someday. Thanks for the support!
What an incredible deal!! I'm not even hungry but your review made me want to go get a steak. I need to time my next visit to NYC during restaurant week 😅
Haha! Yeah, they're definitely some great deals out there during Restaurant Week.
