    In any fromsoftware game, there comes a point where something goes unaddressed by development for long enough that it goes from being a bug to a feature. Whether its toggle escapes in ds1 or stance swapping in dark souls 2. All it boils down to is “this is just how the game works”, like it or not. So hate it or love it, everyone is free to choose whether they intentionally use early hits or just conveniently allow them to happen. Is it gimmicky? Yea. But show me something in this game that isnt and ill give you a “most honorable chungus” award. Feel free to play how you want but remember that this is all just a game, and who honestly even fuckin cares.

      You may not believe me, but toggle escaping was intentional by the devs. I can't remember where it was, maybe in the guide book, but they recommended switching weapons to get out of R1 combos. The more you know

      i installed ER last night for the first time since the DLC came out and got absolutely shit on by this, legit watched him throw it 3 times in a row before i realized i needed to dodge WAYY earlier, i play on pc so it was not a good time, its crazy that they just dont care that the pvp on the biggest platform is complete and utter garbage, i love your content so imma leave it to you and Jee9ine to show me the rest of Elden rings life, im just not having fun, have a good day!

    It's nice to have these explanations so us ABSOLUTE CASUALS can at the very least understand how we got folded. Because the issue with facing an experienced opponent is there is no fucking way to tell what brand of pasta is at work for the spagetti code.
    This also means if you are running some fluff stuff for your fashion or roleplay build, knowing these becomes even more beneficial for giving you a fighting chance.

    Edit: I am a big fan of using my weapon to block attacks, is it trully not viable to block at all for majority of the weapons? Is there a resource or gimmick I should familiarise myself with if I want to incorporate weapon blocks?

      weapon blocks are iffy because they generally have lower guard boost. if you check the tooltip to see the guardboost value, youll see what weapons are safer to block with compared to others. that said, if youre invading and have access to the perfect block tear, then pretty much everything can be used as an effective guard tool

      Also I should have clarified while asking. I meant as in when should I be blocking a hit with my weapon? For example should I try and block a spinning slash? Should I block while back stepping?
      I want to know when guarding with my weapon is a Solid answer. Not just guarding for the sake of guarding!

      if your weapon doesn't have at least 50 guard boost and your not running the great shield talisman, then i would say no, if it did and you were running great shield talisman yes its viable but attacks can still break your guard depending on stamina and the type of attack. just my 2 cents

      @ Blocking can occasionally pay off but in general it is very risky. I mainly use blocking to be able to pivot my character freely.

      You *could* try to go for perfect blocks, but that's peak "imma do anything possible just to make my playstyle win, even if it means flailing myself"
      Perfect block without the reflecting tear is done by toggling off the shield(or guarding weapon) at the last possible frame before you get hit while you're running, this isn't a desync as it works in pve as well, it's merely animations overlapping, and what it will have you achieve is tanking a hit while taking no form of stun at all.
      Only issue doing it with a weapon is you'll ve unlikely to be able of capitalizing on it as tanking even a single hut like this will likely lead you to remain with no stamina

    Colossal early hits are very reactable but can be used to throw off your opponent from a timing you conditioned into them.
    Halberd early hits or desync is different in that it‘s not reactable, you might be able to see someone set it up and prediction roll, but they might just jebait you anyway and rollcatch.
    Speaking of bugs, glitches and tech, I see a break between the one and the other, where in the case of halberd early hit the hit predates to actual animation lining up, while on colossal it may hit earlier then expected, but the animation lines up correctly.
    On that note the halberd early hit seems like a pretty cheap maneuver to not actually have to condition your opponent and just get a free unreactable move in.

      youre probably just seeing the latency. the hitbox is accurate to the size of the weapon, refer to the video on spacing for more infos ^^

    Man, thats just straight up exploit. I mean, its good that you made a vidoe about, now we know how to avoid it, but still, you shouldnt be able to desync attacks like that. Afterr all, whats the difference between this and lag switching? Both will make you get hit by something you shouldnt get hit by. Fkn love Fromsoft, they make one of the most unique fighting games, and at the same time make the most horrendous balance choices ever and patch their game once every 6 months.

      There’s literally so many ways to bug out this game it’s crazy. Just simply desyncing your attacks is surprisingly easy I mean you have latency first of all, you have lag switching, you have 9822 (pc exploit only), you have guard tech desync exploit (tap guard twice faster than you own fps and any action you commit after that will be unseen by the opponent as they’ll see you running in place guarding and suddenly take damage), AND NOW WE HAVE THIS HALBERD TECH WTH. Who knows how many times we’ve used it without realizing, or lost due to something out of our control.

      I'm looking at the hitbox shown in the video in the section where it's viewed in profile on a black background.
      It extends what looks like over 2ft in front of the tip, includes not just the stabbing blade of the weapon, not just head of the weapon behind the stabbing blade, but also the haft all the way down to his hand (getting too close for a stab with a long weapon should and could be a great counterplay but isn't really viable because the hands are magically stabby), and the space in a wide radius to the sides around the head of the weapon in all directions - not just the direction of the axe head. Even the axe head wouldn't be a viable striking surface here because it's not balanced in front of the hand, but I'd be willing to roll with it cause it's fantasy & a video game
      I am all for making it bigger for the sake of making the weapon easier to hit with in game mechanics, but this is taking it to an extreme that I feel detracts. Including on a really good connection where phantom range is minimal to nonexistent, I absolutely notice it and it's a noticeable mismatch conpared to the visual & expectation. I feel like people are capable of interacting with the character's hitboxes to a level of precision where they'd be able to benefit from more accurate hitboxes.

      @ its def true that people hitboxes are alot more precise than weapon hitboxes, outside of projectiles which tend to have a much more narrow model. I dont disagree with how you feel about the hitboxes being scaled larger thsn whst the model of the weapon shows, but i guess im just used to it, since thats how all the weapons in ER are modeled. So halb just doesnt look any different to me compared to anything else

      @@Rust_BKT I mean yeah, a lot of the fromsoft hitboxes seem to be largely unchanged for many generations of game (or at least following the same design), despite the games otherwise evolving. I definitely agree that a lot of the hitboxes aren't hugely different from the halberd in terms of how *wide* they are. I am not trying to say the halberd is the only example of this, in other words. But it is one of the clearest I think.
      I would say the halberd (and polearms generally) are more noticeably overboxed in that they also extend far from the forward point of the weapon, and farther back from the actual striking area. Flanking and closing distance on a spear/halberd should circumvent any part of the weapon that could actually stab you - and exploit one of the few IRL vulnerabilities of the weapon type. But instead you are walking into a hitbox.
      Another reason it feels overboxed to me is compare the halberd stab hitbox to the spear's. The hitboxes are massively wider on the halberds, but in terms of what would actually be striking and dealing damage they should be almost identical during a stab. On that note, one thing to consider is that I think the main argument for making a hitbox significantly larger than the actual weapon, is to account for the nature of the medium of a video game - you can't really specifically aim with a weapon. But if that is logic that one follows, then the spear should have a much wider hitbox than the halberd because of the two its far easier to aim (especially comparing one handed)

    It seems like a decent mix-up, but generally speaking late hits are better than early hits because you don't want to be in a scenario where your opponent is actionable while you are still in a cooldown animation. Late hits allow you to capitalize in the opposite way, giving you frame advantage.

    in dark souls 1, if you did a running attack with the halberd while running through blight town swamp, the swing would come out instantaneously or near enough. is this in any way related to what we're seeing here?

      @@J-ManJT short answer, u dont. If you have a mage and one or 2 people babysitting them while they throw projectiles at you that cleave half your health in 1 hit, then you cant engage. You have to separate them, drag them through the level till you get one to overextend and try to burst them down before they can run back to hide behind their friends.

      @@averagedorksouler9 idk about you, but for me, it feels awful to use terribly designed weapons. Whether its insanely long recovery, no chase potential, or just feeling awkward and clumsy. Personally, i like using setups that feel good to use, whether its halberds, daggers, greatswords, or curved swords. But put a great club in my hands and im just gunna be malding while i chase lightroll mages in circles till the timer stalls

      @@Nickkeyy-v4j hammer, but both tbh. Granted i use everything from time to time, flails, hammers, cw, whips, torches, ect. And sure anything can work if someone walks into it repeatedly. But i cant reasonably cast blame on anyone for choosing to use more comfortable setups that fell good to use than trash meme weapons. Ya feel?

      meta weapons often have a proper moveset that makes you able to interact with the game mechanics and win your way through a duel. Offmeta weapons are often offmeta because their moveset is uninteresting, copy pasted and they usually have shit range and speed. When you play offmeta most of the time you don't win, you just hope that your opponent to lose by themselves.

      If you can't understand the search for good gameplay without the need of written activity stats, you lost the plot of video games.

    I stopped playing From games online a long time ago and I’m so glad I did cuz these games are such a buggy mess online
