Living with ZERO Furniture

  • In this vlog I share my thoughts on minimalism and living with zero furniture. We are moving soon and we recently had to ship everything we own across the ocean. For the past few weeks, we have been living a forced, extreme minimalist lifestyle. Here's what we have learned about living a simple life, with only the essentials. Of course we get a little rock climbing in as well.

Also, free from a stable boyfriend due to that situation??...how can u expect a dude to comfortably hit it from the back while on His nees on a hard floor??...speaking of nees you need to think about yourself too in sexual situations. If I went to a girl's house with no furniture, I'd wonder if she was doing crack/meth.

Great video! People don't consider that when you buy something, you are giving up time twice - the time that it took to make the money to buy the thing, and then the time that thing steals from you as you use it/maintain it and the time it takes away from other things in your life.

I'd love to see another video where you guys talk about how living this way has effected the way you see your possessions and how it has changed you, like if you guys decided to get rid of some furniture when decorating your new house or something. :)

I agree. Dropping most of the materialistic things do improve your quality of life. It took me a solid 5 days to do this and it was hard but I realized the end results were so uplifting. Less stress and more happiness. I felt like I could never be a minimalist, but It was achieved at the end of the day.

Look, people who have different opinions on how they spend their time are fine. At the beginning of the day, we are all given that decision to personalize. So it's perfectly fine for you to spend your time hiking while someone else spends it watching TV. With all that being said, happy to hear you found the happiness you desired

I'm about to be in this situation - moving across the country, stuff goes into storage this coming week leaving me with a few clothes, a roll-up mattress and sleeping bag, minimal dishes and cutlery, and a laptop! Fortunately the house's services are still connected and the internet works (usually, that's another story)!

Backpackers have it all figured out, what you actually really need. It's enlightening to do that, and free from worry.
However, wait until you have a child. That makes it even more interesting.

      LLorenzo
They need less than we think they do, but once you have children things go into more focus. Children don't need the latest trend in clothes or shoes, or the latest toys, but there is a lot of pressure to do things a certain way.
You don't need expensive baby formula if you eat healthy and nurse them. And you can easily make your own baby food with a blender.
You don't need expensive diapers. Cloth diapers are reasonable and environmentally friendly. But there is also a way to train a baby without diapers.
You don't need a baby crib if you follow the Montessori method of setting up a nursery. But you do need to baby-proof a home. I did co-sleeping, with all my children and everything did just fine. But you can't do it if you drink a lot or do drugs.
You don't need expensive schooling for a child, but you are responsible for giving them an appropriate education. Homeschooling is an option if you have the time. Children learn a lot from real life experiences, and watching you and other family members do their work.
They don't need expensive fast food if you learn to cook, and maintain a budget.
If you learn to sew, you can make a lot of kids clothing. But thrift stores often have great clothes for kids, or you can get clothes from other families and friends.
You don't need a big car. You can get a cargo bike to put your kids in.
But you are going to want to get a clean, safe home. And insurance.
And find a good neighborhood for them to grow up in, and room to play outside, and to make friends in.

    • @JesseMontgomery
      @JesseMontgomery  3 роки тому +6

Thanks so much for watching! You're absolutely right, it's not realistic for most people to live without furniture and dishes. But this was a pretty unique situation we found ourselves in for a few months so I thought I'd share it and discuss some of my thoughts about what it was like to live with less. At it's core, minimalism is about living an intentional, meaningful life and limiting distractions both physical and mental that prevent you from doing so. Whether that means getting rid of a couple knick knacks or selling everything you own, everyone has their own path towards finding the things that really matter in life.
