Yes YES i Thank them today at Life Guard head quarters Newport Beach Pier ill be posting the Angelic Sunset from here Tonight On My Channel for all to enjoy
the skipper of the yellow rescue boat deserves a bravery medal absolutely impeccable observation and execution of boatmanship in treacherous conditions... a great example of calculated risk by a master skipper.
That yellow boat is the life guard boat and they have to rescue people like this about everyday somewhere in Newport Bch. I've surfed the wedge many times and it's no place for a jet ski or someone whoes not a really good swimmer.
Not only that but he started moving across the crest of the wave. First of all it was dangerous because there were body surfers there, but had he have turned his jetski and took the wave to the left he could have got out of the impact zone and gone back out to sea through a rip.
the wedge is a harbor they took a wrong turn on wrong day ,huge south ground swell..we all do stupid stuff .i put this squarely on the head of ski rental guy ..should have warned visitors to stay in harbor ..not everyone is from Newport ..geez !!
David Suzuki Ummm, there isn't a hint of racism in this thread. I'm guessing you don't know what kook means. But while I'm here, I'd like to make a couple of points. First, the christian scriptures condone racial slavery in both the old and new testaments. Second, christians can just ask for forgiveness and move past their errors, while us nonbelievers have to live with the consequences of our actions. I'd put my morality up against any christian, any day. Enjoy your weekend! Try sleeping in on Sunday and use the time you'd spend in church thinking about how you could help humanity. You may like it.
The problem is that the jetski stalled due to the white water of the previous wave. Jetskis are turbine powered. They suck water and spit it out from behind with huge force. When you drive through white water, that is mostly air, there is not enough water to suck in so the jetski just stalls. It's like trying to accelerate full speed in a car on a ice surface. That's the whole reason of the incident. Don't ride on white water...
Exactly what I said lol! If one of us had been on that situation would have never happened. Thats probably because we have an iq higher than 55 though haha.
Joe Sharp Well... he was ignorant, I mean.... he probably didn't know that the jetski does not run on white water. Also he was reckless: you should never put yourself in an obviously dangerous situation without knowing how to get out of it or even how the gear will behave in that situation. So... we know the results of ignorance and recklessness: awesome UA-cam videos.
I think this fool had no sea or waves experience ... He just wanna feel powerful with his new white girlfriend and rent a jet! But he had just ride 3 or 4 time on playstation until this...
Brilliant video and excellent choreography. Couldn't imagine thinking I was getting close to the harbor entrance to look back and see Leviathan behind me. Great work!
Excellent video. Great capture. Those two on the jet ski are very lucky to be alive. They put all those lifeguards at risk. They should be very thankful. What a stupid move they made.
agreed... i wanna hear the bystanders comments such as "ummm wtf is that waverunner doing?", "that's not a lifeguard you moron", and of course "ohhhhhh shit"
When you get a side wave merge with the main wave, you get a spot where the two waves meet, the result is a bigger triangular section. The side wave is formed by wave energy bouncing off the sea wall, watch the waves, you'll see what I mean ;)
When he came past us one head had to dive under him. It was bad all around. It felt unreal. They came from deep cylinders, had we not been spread out from the first two waves of that set...Mikes camera picked up a good angle of how close.
I had to go in for a jetskier once.. went into a pier after drinking, his leg was on the wrong way round... jetskiers are mostly tools in my experience . Thanks .
I’m an ER & COVID unit nurse. Do you know who my heroes are? Lifeguards! It would be an honor to work along side them........on land. I got goosebumps when I saw their response times and the number responding. They are like police, fire, physicians, EMS and dolphins 🐬 all wrapped into one.
As I watched this incredible rescue and the lifeguards attending to the victims on the beach, I kept wondering: where is the lifeguard mobile backup response with oxygen and pre-hospital care equipment? Were they short of emergency units that day? I am a former southern California lifeguard who used to body surf the wedge and I know that Newport Beach has the equipment it needs to respond to this type of emergency. So where was the backup response, once they got the victim on the beach. They should have been waiting on the beach with all the necessary emergency equipment, but that never happened. Why?
You're digging on them for not having equipment there within seconds of them being on shore? It's not economically feasible to stock, maintain and secure that equipment at every tower. The truck was there within a couple minutes. It was a very busy flag weekend with almost 300 rescues in Newport.
Ok so the only possible explanation for this is the guy thought he was already in the channel to the marina at Newport Beach? He gunned it when he saw the big set approaching and then panicked when he finally realised he was in fact west of the marina jetty before getting mown down by the first wave?
Things look a lot different from low on the water. He probably couldn't distinguish the harbor entrance due to the visual complexity of the rock jetty.
curious what the guy/girls explanation is for this (feel free to share a link if you've seen an interview). The only possible explanation I can think of is they saw the big waves crashing over the wall from a distance and thought it was a lil canal into the harbor, then the guy figured he'd punch it thru despite the waves only to realize there is no canal to go thru, then he goes into panic mode
I figured out what this guy was thinking, he thought that was the entrance to the New Port boat docks one jetty further south! That's all I can think of by the way he drove the jet ski so far near the jetty.....kinda crazy.
To the girl on the back of the PWC: RUN away from any man who takes you into trouble like this, then swims to save himself when things go south. Your future with such men is no bueno.
Kooks for sure. (And kooks come in all shapes and sizes and shades) As a so cal native, watching this is just more proof of the pure stupidity of tourists in the ocean. I'm so grateful for lifeguards- they are truly under appreciated. I dated one for over 6 years- watching some if the things they can do is unreal.
Newport guards are among the best paid civil servants in the country. They're not under appreciated. If I had it to do over, I would've stuck with Jr. Guards and try to get hired. By now I'd be making a couple hundred grand a year with a great tan and a line of beautiful women following me around.
I was on that beach in 1970. waves weren't tht big. no jetsk's and the boards were 10 feet long I was 18 y/o and body surfed have never been slammed so hard. if it weren't for the fins I would have died . barley made it back to beach as we used to say it was far out.
Props to the lifeguards and the local bodysurfers as well!!! Not many human beings willing to rescue idiots in that corner. Some days it's the place to paddle out but not on this day. A big swell, at low tide, everyone avoids that corner, especially if there's an 800 pound object bouncing around. Those two would've likely died if it weren't for their rescuers.
-Dude, there's a big wave coming.
-Don't worry, if I go straight into the rocks we''ll be fine.
LOL!!! That was funny, and it reminded me of the old James Bond movie "Thunderball" when Bond wrecks that boat into the rocky island all calm as shit!
He thought those were foam rocks like at Universal Studios lol
I all good I got this baby
Alejandro Arndt Jack 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Alejandro Arndt Jack i tought the same. guys like: yep, rocks. we are safe now.
Respect to the Lifeguards, truly underrated heroes.
It could of been SO MUCH worst. The Music to this Video Magnifying power of the ocean
So much worse.
Yes YES i Thank them today at Life Guard head quarters Newport Beach Pier ill be posting the Angelic Sunset from here Tonight On My Channel for all to enjoy
To real brah......these guys are like gaurdian angels......
Seriously on a swell like that at the Wedge...its no joke.
the skipper of the yellow rescue boat deserves a bravery medal absolutely impeccable observation and execution of boatmanship in treacherous conditions... a great example of calculated risk by a master skipper.
Totally reckless, he didn't need to go in there
Did so..
DID NOT!! 😅
That yellow boat is the life guard boat and they have to rescue people like this about everyday somewhere in Newport Bch. I've surfed the wedge many times and it's no place for a jet ski or someone whoes not a really good swimmer.
Huge thanks to all the lifeguards. Summer is back. This kook gets another chance at life.
hats off to the jet ski for making the best out of a bad situation and taking the opportunity to get pitted at the end of the video
You win the internet today
sooo pitted.
jetski ripped.COVER SHOT
Bruh you legend😂
lol
A wise man once said, "If you don't know how to pilot a jet ski through waves, you shouldn't pilot a jet ski through waves."
_There was no second date._

GREAT JOB NEWPORT BEACH GUARDS! Thank you for all your do! You went over and above (as always) best guards in CA!
What the Heck is JET SKI DOING AT THE WEDGE ...!?? KOOK!!
Exactly kook of the year
Not only that but he started moving across the crest of the wave. First of all it was dangerous because there were body surfers there, but had he have turned his jetski and took the wave to the left he could have got out of the impact zone and gone back out to sea through a rip.

Who is going to rent a jet ski to go no more than 5mph?

His jet ski rental experience is off to rocky start.
Why didn't he just drive towards the shore with the wave? Guess the rocks looked like a softer landing
Think he panicked and was confused -
The problem is that the jetski stalled due to the white water of the previous wave. Jetskis are turbine powered. They suck water and spit it out from behind with huge force. Thank you NBLG for your amazing rescue of these two (insert any adjective here) on the jet ski. All guards risk their lives for others, true heroes!
They are extremely lucky to have survived this experience. Good job Newport Lifeguards, clean and swift extraction.
The fact that you rarely see jetskis in the water at the beach is a GODSEND.
THE NOISE,THE SMELL was not pleasent.
For sale. Slightly scratched jet ski.
"Never redlined or turned over, one elderly owner"
"Small stain on seat area"
Hahaha... good for Thai beach scammers.
second hand
"Honey, what's that to the right coming in?"
" Shut up. I wanna get closer to the jetty and check them rocks out!"
Brilliant video and excellent choreography. Couldn't imagine thinking I was getting close to the harbor entrance to look back and see Leviathan behind me. Great work!

good video but next time hold off on the crappy music. glad everyone's ok
I actually appreciated the music....added to the intrigue and drama.
+Chris Pritchard no
the music was refreshing.
agreed... i wanna hear the bystanders comments such as "ummm wtf is that waverunner doing?", "that's not a lifeguard you moron", and of course "ohhhhhh shit"
sorry pete not everyone enjoys your sexual preference.
The music made the video. I cant believe anyone would question it. Thank you.
It's amazing to see so many brave people go after them
for once, someone who knows what they're doing with a camera. nice work.
someone's not getting there deposit back for the rental!!!!
I give the jet ski a 10 for sticking the landing.
Is the music necessary?
I kind of like it
There is always a mute button.
I was kind of hoping for the theme music from Seinfeld.
yea, then about 0:49, turns all dramatic to the scene
Yes.
Why be stupid in big surf when you can be stupid in big surf next to the ROCKS!
that poor jet ski i hope its ok.
I've been praying all weekend for it.
please pardon my poor English, what does wedge mean,i look it up in English dictionary,it means a triangle wood, but the video has no connection with it
It's just the name of the surf beach
When you get a side wave merge with the main wave, you get a spot where the two waves meet, the result is a bigger triangular section. The side wave is formed by wave energy bouncing off the sea wall, watch the waves, you'll see what I mean ;)
Ik what you mean
I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this video.
Brilliant work from the lifeguards. Respect.
lifeguards there - STUDS
Holy Crap, this is not a good scenario.
Hats off to the lifegards.
Thx for letting us know that you used Adobe Primer Pro CS5
I am sad for the lifeguard (s) who had to risk his life to save those idiots!
When he came past us one head had to dive under him. It was bad all around. It felt unreal. They came from deep cylinders, had we not been spread out from the first two waves of that set...Mikes camera picked up a good angle of how close.
great job life guards. much respect
Love the dramatic music
I had to go in for a jetskier once.. went into a pier after drinking, his leg was on the wrong way round... jetskiers are mostly tools in my experience . Thanks .

Nice job covering the event~! I'd like to try that on a jet ski.
The rocks will win again...
OMFG
oh its you
did you make the score to the film after you shot the footage? its got a baywatch feel
Good choice of music for the video.
Anyone notice how fast the rescue boat responded ? Right after the ski crashed it was already on its way in the background coming very fast.
4K @ 30, thats awesome! :D
KOOKS, thanks for putting our lifeguards in danger.
Great parking maneuver..
The best part of being a lifeguard is that you get to ridicule people for being dumb shits and have them gratefully admit you're right.
I'm gonna go ahead and give props for the scary made-for-tv-movie music. It works for me.
Does anyone know, which episode and season of Baywatch this was?
Honestly, that parking job was on point. 1:15.

Jet Ski for sale, slightly used. Never been shored.

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.” Einstein
0:43 wow 10-15 feet of whitewater sidewashing into the jetty, what a miracle neither hit their heads and got knocked unconscious :O
Cool El Rollo at the end of the video. "10"s across the board.
This vid needs the Benny hill theme
Where can I get this soundtrack!
Such a stupid move! Why go directly to the rocks instead of the opposite direction...?
Things look a lot different from low on the water. He probably couldn't distinguish the harbor entrance due to the visual complexity of the rock jetty.
Probably he had no time to turn back when he realized that the wave was comming.
curious what the guy/girls explanation is for this (feel free to share a link if you've seen an interview). Incredible! Well done , Lifeguards!
Who does that?
I love the music. So dramatic.
I have never ridden a jet ski but I'd bet I wouldn't haul arse towards rocks if a wall of white water was heading for me.
I figured out what this guy was thinking, he thought that was the entrance to the New Port boat docks one jetty further south! That's all I can think of by the way he drove the jet ski so far near the jetty.....kinda crazy.
awesome jet ski landing !
"There's a huge wave coming let's gun it towards those rocks." Amazing stupidity.
To the girl on the back of the PWC: RUN away from any man who takes you into trouble like this, then swims to save himself when things go south. Your future with such men is no bueno.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Austin called you captain save em hahahahah
love the music haha this is great
Hey SoCalVideos.......Would love to use this video on all ABC News shows and platforms with credit. Please let me know if possible. Thank you!

Self declared "So Cal native" is something a kook says...
At least she didn't say "Cali"
+Larry Barnard a native cali girl here

Did the engine cut out or just the driver's brain?
Porque não foram pra esquerda quando aceleraram.???
Pre-owned Jetski for sale. Has a few minor dings, but runs good. -No low balling-
Did he get his deposit back on the jetski or they be racists and keep it? I need to know.
Stupid comment. The driver of the Jet Ski almost killed a handful of people and you're worried about his deposit
fuck no
+Danielle Elizabeth ikr. Was sweet justice til the lifeguards came in the picture
Sarcasm lost on you Danielle?
LMAO hahaha
It's amazing how many lives have been put into risk for just one act of stupidity! The guy from the jetski should be publicly awarded!
California Coast Guard is amazing!!
"kook of the summer"award knocked out in first week!!
Wow that's such a pretty jet ski
Does anybody know the extent of their injuries ?
Love Newport Beach, got
To respect the wedge it can be scary as hell!
Where are all the body surfers and body boarders? Usually, even when the waves are insane, the place is packed.
This really looks like a training exercise. That ski was expertly put in the worst, yet best spot for assistance.
The music and the jet skier.
a definite contender for the Darwin Award.
Nice job captain Shettino.
Getting inside the break at Wedge on a jet ski. Brilliant.
If the had just go straight to the shore they may have been ok. But the jetty?
I feel like this is a scene from Bay Watch.
Must have been the craziest thing they've seen yet at the wedge.
There goes your rental deposit. The lifeguards kicked ass.
Is there a Part 2?
current is gnarly out there
why did he go towards the rocks for?
Why the music?
Props to the lifeguards and the local bodysurfers as well!!! Not many human beings willing to rescue idiots in that corner. Some days it's the place to paddle out but not on this day. Great video catch SoCal, I don't get why the jet skiers did that?
that is some scary stuff. waves breaking over the jetty. the jetski would of been fine perhaps outside but close to the jetty is bad.
Was the guy drunk or blind, or blind drunk?
So typical of a jet ski, to save itself and leave others behind. how rude.
Merci
