i just know when I've been to sandys the shore break will suck up in inches of water, id assume this is somewhat similar but certainly 2 different types of mutants
Clark Little has the best published Photography of the Ocean book!!! On Amazon... bought several for gifts within the past year!!! Huge book... amazing photos ... can't imagine how he took them!!!
The thing that i love here is that those people are so dedicated to bodyboard or bodysurf, they go directly to the washing machine for a long time just to enjoy half a second of riding, when they start the waves they knows that there is no exit but they go there anyway and this is beautiful
Lived on Ohau for few years, in winter of 1986 North Shore was closed out with stormy conditions. Went to Waimea to body surf the shore break (had some experience body surfed The Wedge for many years) the lifeguard was running after me to not go in the water, but he was too late. I took off on 2 what you could call shorebreak in the middle of the bay, but when it is that big it breaks a lot farther out. Called it quits after the 2 waves, it was too big to be the only one out.
Ha. I grew up in Hb and surfed and sponged all over including the Wedge. I moved to Florida in 2001, and when it gets big I like to go out swimming. The lifeguards usually try to get me out of the water, as I am usually the only one, until they realize that I am not in danger. Meanwhile the locals and tourists have to watch for a while as they can't understand why I am not drowning, or being sucked out to sea.
To all the people bitching in the comment section about how dangerous this is listen to this, when/if you are caught in a shallow water shorebreak to make sure you don't break you're neck (cause that can happen) curl into a ball before you go under it'll save you a lot of trouble
I almost never comment on any ones videos, but had too... THIS WAS AMAZING! I keep watching it over. What song is this? I cannot get it out of my head, its awesome and perfect fit for the vid!!!
I'm still haunted by the music and the video you shot. So much so, it's playing during my wedding reception in two weeks! It's given me so much courage, next year I'm going to knock off the rust and take my oldest son surfing for the first time. This is the power of artistry, and when it is shared the influence it can have. Peace.
Can you upload a video showing the aftermath of the waves? I've never seen such huge shorebreaks before! Does anyone know if it hurts them getting dumped by such massive waves in very shallow water?
Depends. I bodysurfed and body boarded every ridable break on Oahu, The Wedge in So. Cal. and Padre Island in TX. I'm 64 and I still feel a rush of adrenaline just watching surf videos. Yeah, you can get busted up. I've got my collection of scars from hard landings. Sandy Beach - Riding a big shore break in high surf it best to know where every rock underwater that can kill you lives. I thought I broke my hand that was holding the front of the boogie board as it slammed into the rock on the left side of Sandy Beach. Pipeline - Chunk of flesh and chipped hipbone were the dues I paid for a late takeoff at Pipeline. Makapuu - Knee still has the scar from slamming into the center rock. Sandy Beach on Oahu was called breakneck beach. Back in the late 70s and early 80s we would do "Another One Bites The Dust" as the ambulance arrived there. My neck had to be in one of those foamy neck braces for a few weeks...TWICE! Doctor told me I would break my neck sooner or later. He was wrong, I became a much better bodysurfer. "Know your capabilities and limitations" was told to me by a Hawaiian in 1979. Cant say I knew them til I surpassed them and "paid my dues" My spine gave me pain for 15 years and chiropractor put me in the stretcher device and my back popped like 7-8 times! I gained 1" in height after spinal decompression. Yeah, you can get hurt or killed in high surf or shore breaks. But if I could do it all over again.... I WOULD DO IT RIGHT NOW! Dirt Bikes, skiing, (both snow and water) are really fun activities, but nothing compares to becoming one with the ocean in a glassy tube that you know how to negotiate instinctively.
Seabass knows how to take off on Keiki waves when the swells up....ya gotta be a long way down the face, as far under the lip, from the outset, and often as it's pitching at Keiki, (and Waimea Shorebreak too, quite often..)...is the main reason why he's drawing the cleaner lines so often, even as many of the others go straight over the falls, and into the Keiki dry sand...
ahhh i missed shorebreak!!! we don't have that many shorebreak here in Bali...the only decent one is at Dreamland beach in The bukit west coast and it is still far from this beast
So I was looking at the ride at 1:28, aerial view and it brings up a question...my friend, who I have looked up to in bodyboarding since we were kids(I was always the kook friend lol)says he never loses his board in a close out wave, that he cuts out and the wave just passes over him and he pops out the back. My experience always is similar to what you can see in this ride...get barreled and then immediately after get dirty lickens on the sand. Like WWF kine sometimes for me. So anybody have any thoughts on this?
Is thre any truth to the statement? I'm talking about a clean pull in situation...a lot of these are more like halfway over the falls but still made it inside kine.
bigislander72 the waves there double up a lot but perfectly so that the wave has somewhat of and extra lip but still fused if that makes sense. That why's on some waves it bowls inward and that's when they airdrop
If you're taking off on a proper barreling, peeling wave then it is possible as you have enough speed to punch out the back of the wave... But that would never work on a shore dump like this
great video, been seeing a lot of the images from this session floating around nice to finally see some solid footage and great edit
+Mike Lucas Media Mahalo!
+Chris Kincade Photography what is the song name
+Mike Lucas Media How do you think it racks up against the wedge Mike?

Mike Lucas Media cheers Mike. looks like the wedge has been active of late. Thanks again
That's not surfing, that' s driving your car in front of a train at an intersection. On purpose. Hats off to these madmen.

I like it when it's the drone footage where you can see the people getting sucked over
The image footage show some real power in that wave ...Like some big fat wrestler slamming you on to the ground lol
One of the best shorey edits of all time.
The thing that i love here is that those people are so dedicated to bodyboard or bodysurf, they go directly to the washing machine for a long time just to enjoy half a second of riding, when they start the waves they knows that there is no exit but they go there anyway and this is beautiful
1:40 Poor guy, went right over the falls :P

Great music as always
I knew it had something to do with Clark when I saw the awesome picture quality
This is a proper shorebreak ! sick video !
Funny how apparent the contrast is between the drone shots and the upclose beach shots. One looks serene and peaceful, and the other is pure chaos.
For sure 🤙

This dude replies to every question except, "what's song is this?" Haha

Cool
Great video! Love, who is the band, song?
This is what makes waimea. You dont go here knowing you're going to get a perfect wave, you go here knowing you're going to get slammed.
It's Keiki beach but you are 100% correct getting smashed 🤘

Its all in how well you can navigate these beasts. We take plenty beatings for sure lol

That's a heavy heavy wave.
1:28 rip
