The solenoids connectors are a little tricky. I used a 60 degree pick to rock them out. A nipple is on the wired part of the connector. It has to get pass the connector on the solenoid. Sharp part into connector lift plastic solenoid part and rock the connector (with wire) out. I split the first solenoid's plastic connector. Oh well... no biggie she's being replaced. I bought my solenoid replacement kit from this guy... Respect!
Thanks! I Just got a call from my mechanic saying I had an issue with one of the solenoids. My car is now up for sale on ebay.
Excellent video I could not have done it without you. Thanks.
I bought your solenoids for my 2008 mini Cooper s turbo R56. Will keep your posted.
Nice detailed video. It was actually clear at 5:36 for just a second. ;)
Do you have to do the relearn right away, the mechanic who installed the solenoid didn’t do this step
How many hours did this repair take? The mini dealership in Loveland CO quoted me 6 hrs at $170. They also stated they could not replace just the solenoid and it was more likely the wiring harness that is leaking, WHAT? and replacing the solenoid block might only be 50 % effective. Any input from you guys would be awesome!
What symptoms indicate that you should replace the solenoids? I have an 05 Mini Cooper S , with 6spd aisin tranny that sometimes shifts hard and strangely 1-2 and 2-3, especially after fully warm. Only 70k on the odo, tried fluid changes/flush procedure but it didn’t resolve the issue. Wondering if the solenoid replacement is the next course of action.
Same issue here on my 05 Mini S with 79K on the ODO, did you ever figure it out?

Hi , I have the same problem on my 06 cooper s , shifts perfect when cold , as soon as it warms up it down shifts hard when coming to a stop, also up shifts 1-2 2-3 hard , did the trans flush and same problem , did you ever figure out the fix ??
Mr Jerusalem ended up replacing the shift solenoids. Not an easy job, but resolved the shifting problems.

Thank you , I will replace the solenoids some time soon, I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for replying
Hi again. I replaced the solenoids , now it shifts different , when I take off low throttle seems to be shifting okay, but if I go normal it slides into gear and delay in reverse , someone said I should do the reset adaptation with a BMW scanner , unfortunately I don't have a scanner , I was wondering if you had to that to your car ?
Where is the solenoid valve s2 located?
The solenoid valve s2 warning lamp is scanned.
Have a nice day.
What kind of solenoid should i buy for mini cooper 2013 automatic transmission. Thansk a lot
The 12 bolts body to case, you said torque 8 Nm plus 90 degrees? That doesnt seem right ...We didnt see you do 90 degrees in the video either so was that just an error? isnt it just 8-9Nm there is a gasket in between. thanks
This harness on my car has been contaminated with transmission oil. Are there replacements available? Thanks
I began to enjoy this video, at the six minute mark.
I recently purchased a complete solenoid kit, no problem in replacing them, however I accidently removed the shifter lever which came completely out of the valve body with two small springs and a small piston type located inside the shift lever. How is this lever assembled?
Did you figure it out yet, I'm trying to see if I can fix mine 😂
Just bought yours solenoids for my r53 . Nice to see you have video on topic! this seems to be newer transmission i wonder if torque specs are similar and whole procedure. Anyway it should be helpful.
were they very much ??
Great detailed video.
Do you know how many solenoids I would need for my 2014 hardtop F56 Mini Cooper?
This transmission has 8 solenoids. For more information please contact us www.wolfsburgtuning.com/contact/
Thank you
I have a manual 2005 mini cooper s r52 and I am having some rough idling issues and I read about changing the solenoids to fix the idling issues. Am I looking at the right video for this type of work?
David Collins if it is a manual it shouldn’t have this valve body because this is for a automatic transmission.
Would this help a transmission that slips after it is warm?
Im hoping, Im having the same issue right now. I have a 2007 r56
@@austinperry779were you able to complete the job? I’m experiencing the same problem, codes say one of the solenoids is failing. How did the job go?
Beautiful, thank you!
God , that music...geezus
very proffecional and helful
You now which one is converter clutch solenoid?
Do you have a video of how you safely removed the exhaust and frame prior to this video?
No need to replace the exhaust - it's nowhere near here. Don't need to remove the subframe either - see other videos of how to avoid.
Hi there-- 2006 Mini Cooper S-- Same Trans (I Believe). Hard shift or no shift between 3rd and fourth gear. already did a transmission fluid change and no help. Also throwing a P0734 (Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio). What would you recommend doing?
Did you fix that problem to your mini?
I have 05 Mini Cooper S and same have that problem
I have the same problem after installing this kit, did you solve this problem?
@@henryespinalsanchez3109 no you likely should get a used transmission and replace the whole valve body-- if that doesn't work then replace the used trans
Max's Garage Max's Garage i have the same issue with my 2007 mini cooper s. Changed the solenoids ,filter, fluid, sensors inside trans and speed sensors and still got the trans slipping from 3 to 4th gear and the code p0734 . By any chance do you know if your converter was damaged? What did you end up doing? My mechanic thinks it is the converter
Hi. My car is mini(S) r56 N14
Is the GA6F21WA item compatible with the TF60SN?
Yes, these solenoids fit GA6F21WA.
Thanks!
Changed my solenoids, filter/fluid.... won't physically go in drive now 😂. Guess I get to do it again and pay better attention to the shift linkage 🤦♂️
Hi how did it work out
@@kodywatts5046 definitely was the shift linkage. I had it slightly out of place. Patched it up and then everything worked great except for the solenoids lol. Was getting a slip in 1-2 below 3k, but after that it was a fast little car again! Ended up just giving the car to my friend
@@mr2ferrari ok thanks 😭
@WolfsburgTuning I have an 06 cooper S with the GA6F21WA 6spd Aisin Automatic Transmissiom. The car will shift fine when started, it will go thru eaxh gear fine unless I don't stop (like perfect if i enter the highway, it runs fine) however once I stop, it stays stuck on 3rd gear and wont downshift. After the complete stop, it stays stuck in 3rd gear and will slip all the way until it reaches 3rd gear speed and stays there, wont shift up or down. Once i shut the car off the trans works fine again unless i reach 3rd gear and it starts all over. Throws incorrect gear ratio codes for all gears and the limp mode triangle comes up.
Could the solenoids be the issue here? Or would it be the trans itself. Its been so hard to find this GA6F21WA transmission as most i see are either CVT or manual.
Any ideas and help are appreciated.
Same with mine, did You get it solved?
I think you have the 4e84 dtc sg1 soleinoid
@@kacperurbanski1583 NO, 2 years later and NOTHING...if this car didn't hold sentimental value..i'd get rid of it and NEVER buy another mini again!!!
great video
Can I do this without dropping valve body?
I dont think you can. Not enough space to slide the solenoid out or back in
What are the symptoms for these parts to get replaced ? Trouble shifting gears ?
Common Symptoms are hard shifts, soft shifts, no shifts or different shifting conditions from when your transmission is cold to hot. The solenoids are prone to failures that will give you these symptoms and they are only rated for 100K miles.
Half the bolts for the pan are inaccessible and you didn’t care to put that in the video! 🤦♂️
14 Peeps have no idea what this is! 😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️
