  • When I bought my 2007 Mini Cooper S, it’s main issue was a massive oil leak. I came to find out that the most likely cause of this leak was the oil feed line going to the turbo.
    In this video I show you how to replace the oil feed line with an upgraded unit. I also show how to seal the leaks in the oil cooler housing. These repairs will go a long way to fix or prevent oil leaks on the front of the N14 engine found in the R56 Mini.
    If you want to see how to remove the front end of a Mini for easier access to the engine, watch this video: • Mini Cooper S (R56) Fr...

    Dear Eric please take some time to read this,as a former PSA technician i know a few things about this engine that hopefully will save time and money to some people.
    1)oil leaks came from the one you fixed but it can happen again(probably) after the same km it has now
    2)valve cover and spark plugs round gaskets(this is provided as a set).valve cover gasket set fails and makes the engine dirty all around.
    3)oil filter mounts to the block with 3 bolts,if you remove this there is also a set of o-rings that fails.
    4)vaccum pump for the brakes is turning and creating vaccum by the camshaft.there is also an 0-ring there,BUT here is stg that i solved myself.the pump leaks oil from inside it.this causes the oil to leak on some cables underneath it and finally go to the ground.factory both mini and psa sell these as a unit,cost is about 200 euros.So if you open it carefully(three 20torx screws)you dont need to replace anything,just put sealant on the o-ring that seals the pump all around and you are done.
    5)one time i saw a timing chain tensioner come loose and the oil was leaking on the water hose that goes underneath it.the oil is hot so the water hose got soft and touched the driveshaft which finally blew up and lost all the coolant.make sure the tensioner is tight.
    thanks for reading,hopefully these will help you

      Don't forget the valve cover themselves are as disposable as the gasket set. 9/10 I have to change the valve cover because the CCV is toast as well, new valve cover is needed since the CCV is built into the cover itself.

      You seem like you know ur mini's. I have a problem, my 06 mini (non S) 5 speed was running great then I let someone borrow for only 2 days and now it won't go into gear when the car is off or on. I mean I finally got it to go into 5th 4th an reverse. It's pops out of 1st an 2nd but the biggest issue is when I put it in reverse it wants to go forward an the same in neutral. The last time I drove it BC I had to get it home I had to start out in 4th downhill but once it got going it was fine if I left it in 5th an 4th but if I tried to
      Let off gas it has a grinding sound. Im at a lose but I seen you were a former PSA tech so any suggestions is greatly appreciated. I was thinking the sycro in gears or maybe throw out bearing to clutch or s.cylinder needs bled BC he said he added some and it was the wrong kind of grade but thanks for your time and happy holidays.. please help it's my only car at moment

    the engine is based on a peugeot / citroen design in cooperation with bmw , which explaines why it is so badly designed to work on like many french engines , it comes from a family of engines called the prince engine , en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_engine

    Having worked on my own R56 myself for as long as I've owned it (5 years) I can tell you that you made the right decision pulling the whole front end off. I swapped out my downpipe without removing anything and it was damn near impossible because you have zero room. Finding all the 10mm bolts holding the head shielding on was the worst.

      Germans are very good engineers but they will only do what they are told. And what they were told is "Design it to last only as long as one lease period, make it as cheap as you can". It's why you see PLASTIC FUCKING EVERYWHERE on a German car.

    • @daveverdonschot7956
      @daveverdonschot7956 6 років тому +1

      MDjango exactly... A very problematic french engine. Had lots of timing chain problems. Downsizing is the magic word here... But this not the only example. Lot's of power from a small engine. No reason these can't be engineerd to last... But then "efficiency" suffers.

      I actually love the camera work and the fact that we get to see everything. Don't forget he doesn't have a camera guy with him full time and there is no other way to hold the camera and do work with both hands. Compare that to another video where the guy doesn't have a head cam nor camera guy and has to cut out the video while he actually works.

    • @rodrv6
      @rodrv6 6 років тому

      I understand that he doesn't have a camera guy, but neither does Eric O at South Main Auto. The videos on SMA are shot mostly from a tripod, with some hand held work. He shows nearly all of the work, even though it takes him longer to do a job because of moving the camera around to get good shots. This is while running a full time shop business. I'm just not a fan of headworn cameras......... Still like this channel, though!!!

    Eric I work for a BMW repair shop, make sure you do the timing chain on that motor before it goes bad. These motor are kinda shitty. The oil filter housing is the main leak. These crappy engines make us a lot of money. Also you are correct never use sealer or gasket maker on any German engine unless they call for it. The best website for people who work on BMW's or Mini's is Realoem.com. Just need the last 7 of the vin and you can find any part number and diagram you need.

    I use copper sealing washers all the time and they work great. The trick is copper "Hardens" at room temp over time. You need to anneal copper by heating with a torch until red hot and allow to air cool. Install within 48 hours or anneal again. Learned that trick in aviation school

    Great stuff! Quick Q: I am just learning so still taking it to a mechanic. Have. A 2011 Countryman S massive oil leak out of nowhere. They’re stumped but said leak is coming from galley plug? Can’t figure out why. Any thoughts? Thx

    Even though you said the work can be done without going into front end service. However, it looks much easier to do the work in front end service.

    If the turbo is leaking oil into the charge pipe will changing these things fix that or you have to replace the turbo

    THANK YOU for mentioning that you don't need to remove the bumper Eric. Allows you to avoid draining the coolant when you are doing oil feed line. I appreciate you putting that in there!
