  • I'm back!
    PART 1 (1:00) of this video shows you how to make a t-shirt from scratch. PART 2 (8:58) show you how to make an iron-on patch!
    Making cute t-shirts has become a bit of an obsession of mine. Once you know what you're doing, and as long as you're somewhat comfortable working with stretchy fabric (seriously though, walking foot attachments are lifesavers), it's actually really easy!
    By the way, my fox shirt is my own design and you can get it here: paom.com/produ...

    *The shoulder seams are not always the right quarter measurement!* I used to do this using this method, but after a sewing class I learned that you should place the pins on the exact half of the front and back neckline, then fold these together and then place the pins on the two opposite halves. You'll se they rarely match the shoulder seams and the garment looks 200 times more professional :D
    I'm so glad you are feeling better and sewing and editing again

    I just used this tutorial to make my own T-shirt! Gray jersey just like yours, but no patch added on mine. But I'm SUPER PROUD that it turned out so awesome!!! I got to customize the sleeve length to what I wanted, and made sure the fit was just perfect for me.
    I didn't have my sewing machine available, so I sewed the whole thing by hand using a half-back stitch to allow for some stretch, and that worked out great. Everyone is impressed by my "amazing skill" and how professional it looks.
    THANK YOU, ANNIKA! I couldn't have done it without you!

    Hey! Good to see another video from you. I really missed these, but pf course your health is the most important first and foremost. (I now realize this sounds sarcastic, I am 100% serious). Just wanted to say a couple of things:
    1. You beat that chronic illness like the boss you are! We are all here with you and for you, and we'll wait for your videos as long as it takes.
    2. I made a friend thanks to you! I met a girl and we started talking about UA-cam, and then I said I watch you videos, and she said she does too, and we bonded over watching a lot of your sewing tutorials, despite not even owning a sewing machine, so thanks for that I guess? Haha

    Very nifty - I've never considered it worth my while to make my own t-shirt - I guess it's one of those things you 'Always' buy. But I've got lots of fabrics in my 'Stash', some of them in great fabrics and prints; so thanks to you Ms. A.V. I will definitely be using your tutorial to 'have a go'! Thanks so much. I know this is an older vid., but I'm currently listening to audio-books and simultaneously 'Binge-Watching' all of Make-Thrift-Buy/Style Pile/Sewing Pile and others.

This is definitely one of my favorite Make Thrift Buy episodes. I'm so sorry to hear about your illness, I had no idea. I don't have the same illness as you, but I have a very rare chronic autoimmune disease called Behçet's. It is the inflammation of the blood vessels. I also have Juvenile Arthritis, which effects all of my joints. I have had my diagnosis for almost a year. I am in high school, which makes it super difficult to find people who understand what I am going through. I have a chronic illness page called chronically_strong_ so anyone here that has a chronic illness, you can go look at it! I will be praying for you! I know how difficult it is to try and live with a chronic illness and terrible fatigue.

    You are the BEST DIY youtuber! I have watched all of your videos and you do top notch work that I can follow as a beginning sewer.
    I would love to see you make a part of shorts with non-stretchy material. I have part of an idea on how to make shorts and love the ones on your blog but I am not sure how to do measurements or how to put in a zipper.
    Shorts are always a pain for me to buy and I would love to be able to make my own.
    Thanks and lots of love! You're the best!

    i love your videos. but you know you can sew over the needles right?

    • @AnnikaVictoria24
      @AnnikaVictoria24  8 років тому +22

      People's opinions differ as to whether or not you can sew over pins and whether it's safe to do so. I always have, but then people started commenting that they stopped when it broke their needle, and needles went flying towards their eyes etc. That's never happened to me and when I'm sewing for myself I'll go over pins, BUT I figured it was safer if I was telling people on the internet to take the pins out first! Then I don't get myself in trouble! :P

    • @EnbyReads
      @EnbyReads 8 років тому +14

      you know thats very smart. I never meant it as an insult at all. It has never happened to me, if i take the needles out, i actually end up sewing a little crooket. Im happy you are aware! :D

      It's usually fine but sometimes the pins can get caught up in the foot or the needle will happen to stab down on the pin

    • @Montyjones680

      ive broke a needle before by hitting right on the pin, it doesnt happen hardly ever , but its so annoying when it does

    For the neckline thingy, you can add it when you have one shoulder sewed and one still open. That way you can close the black fabrik and the shoulder in one go and it'll be less likely to rip when you put it on, especially when you have a smaller neckline :)

    So an orange for instance would be an orange semi circle and the segments a lighter colour so almost cartoon like x
