A lot of you complained that last episode's DIY was far too heinous for a beginning crafter. Well, this one is much easier! This is a simple DIY for every crafting level and artistic ability :) Learn how to customise a pair of tights!

I used thicker tights and I actually made myself a stamper and used liquid fabric paint instead. It was a little getting used to at first but in the end much quicker and they're still intact! They also look store-bought since the notes all look very alike due to me using a stamper :D

try getting your tights damp, putting them in a ziploc bag, freezing them overnight, letting them thaw natural, and leave them outside to air dry. They make the material in the tights stronger for some reason and last longer before snagging.

omg I've never owned a pair of hole-free tights for more than 1 hour! At some point I just said fuck it, and wore my shredded tights anyways!
My suggestion: ballet tights. They're not sheer! They're thick, sturdy, stretchy, and they last a long time. Ballet tights can get pricey, but if you want your painstakingly designed tights to last, it might be worth the investment.

I wore sheer tights once. 5 minutes after i had put them on the first hole was there and at 1pm there were more holes than actual thights left. I love the idea of those tights but i'll probably won't ever make them :)
It's pretty easy to find thicker tights online! you just have to search by Deniers. Very thin tights tend to be about 20 to 30 deniers (a denier is a thickness measurement). I managed to get a lot of pairs online over 100 deniers for about 5$. Those usually cost around 15$ on clothing websites, so that's quite nice.
My 200 deniers tights are a lot warmer than wearing actual pants (I live in a very cold country) because the interior of the fabric tends to be a bit fuzzy and very very warm. And since they are so fitted they keep you extra warm.
I think good way to go about this is to find some stencils or even make your own stencils by printing music notes out on cardstock paper and cutting the notes out. Then purchasing fabric paint and a dabber sponge brush and dab on the paint with your stencils. Start light with the paint and dab more slowly as necessary. It won't take as long (except for having to wait for them to dry) and you won't need to worry about the marker pulling or snagging the tights. I sincerely loooove your videos. I love how you are making all the popular clothes and accessories for way cheaper. Being creative is amazing. Please keep doing these videos! Love them!

Queen Kitty it usually depends on different sewing machines unfortunately. Different makes and models have different settings and different parts, but it sounds like a good idea for overall sewing machines :)

I know I'm super late on this but nude dancer tights like Cappezios and Body Wrappers will last you foreverrrr and they're so comfy. They also make your legs look amazing. Obvs they're a little costly, but it's an investment.
They do still get runs/ladders though so be careful with what you sit on, especially since they're so expensive. Just one of the things I've learned from when I used to dance.
Hi Annika! I absolutely love this series so keep doing what you're doing. If you want to make these again in the future, I would recommend using a brand of tights that are made for dancers. The dancers tights tend to rip less easily since they were made for wear and tear. I would recommend Capezio but thats just because thats what I used to use. :)
I always wear sheet tights to concerts and pretty much the more holes and ladders i have in them at the end the better the concert

My friend and I made a pair of tights like this using iron ons. They worked really well. We stretched the tights over a a foam cylinder and ironed our designs right on.
I'm pretty sure if you put them in the freezer before you wear them they don't rip. I'm not sure it works but I heard something about it.

The only sheer tights that have never ripped on me are Hanes Silky Sheer. I've had my pair for a month now and THERE ARE NO RIPS and I wear them multiple times a week!

+hydragnb I should try. When I've used stamps before they've driven me crazy because the colour doesn't apply evenly so it takes even longer to go back and then fill them all in, but maybe I've been doing it wrong haha.
I think as long as you use fabric paint it should work:) aaaaand very important: don't use to MUCH paint, because your thights would like get hard and you wouldn't be able to wear them anymore:/

My sheer tights lasted me about 5 wears when I sprayed hair spray on them right after I put them on. It also sticks to your leg nicely and doesn't have that baggy bunched look or tears after awhile, used it for dance

Depends on the look you're going for! you could use white tights, or ones which match your skin colour. Both will work! And you can use different colour markers too as well.

You can also extend the life of tights by when ever you wear them or when they rip you can spray them with hair spray

Look up the tights hooter girls wear or show girls wear. its like 15$ but last for years for some. I use them for cosplay and they are a bit thicker
i usually wear thigh highs that are slightly thicker because i'm very prone to holes in tights lol. and thigh highs are better because you dont have to deal with the saggy crotch part of the tights lol
This is such an adorable idea! I love the cherry tights especially. But man, I hear you on sheer tights, ugh. My nails are pretty sharp naturally, so any type of tights is doomed.
Although, I did have a pair of sheer tights from Modcloth that I wore for my wedding, and they actually lasted through quite a few wears (maybe 10) before finally ripping. So that was worth it! But, they were also around $14.
I embroidered musicalnotes on a thcick pair of white tights. It worked really well!

I did this once, if you turn the tights inside out and draw over what you first painted, you can see the design a lot more 😊

Ballet tights would be great for this! They're not "shiny" and they'll last a long long time, also to make them last even longer you can handwash them in cold water, leave them in the freezer overnight and let them air dry the next day! I've had tightst that lasted me a few months like that, wearing them a couple times a week! Love these videos btw!

You're amazing, the second method ones look so close! I refuse to wear anything but opaque tights because I've got particularly long nails and particularly thin patience lol.

I would suggest if you do this project to use dance tights. They are thicker and are made for moving around. They also come in a bunch of colors like pink, white, and a ton of skin tones.
There are Ladder Resistant Tights, I don't see them often but I do have a pair. Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to wearing them much since it's more winter than summer here but definitely lasted 1 go.
I suggest cling wrap for the second method or just use a pool noodle to keep it steady
If you print out musical notes on translucent paper ( very thin plastic sheet ) press it on the tights soo much quicker and you can do more intricate designs
These are really awesome! Love the music notes but I am not musically gifted (unless rock band video games count haha) so I think these would be so cute with needles, scissors, and sewing machines!!!

i wear sheer tights for school, ive been going to the same school for 5 years (its a middle and high school put together) and so far ive only gotten two rips/runs/ladders so far!!
Try laying out the tights and spraying them with a light coat of hairspray on both sides before wearing them. Also the tights from Capezio last forever and are around $15 USD. Like my pairs usually last me about a year with no holes.

Spraying your tights with hairspray prevents runs and can prevent holes. If you get a hole, cover it with clear nail polish. This makes your tights last way longer!

I know the struggle of tights to rip. My grandmother always used to wash them and put them into pillows or for stuffing self-made animals like teddy bears.

Usually what I do with new sheer tights is spray hair spray all over them and stick them in the fridge. I haven't really payed attention to see if they do work but it's something you can certainly try to see if they can last.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to put a pattern on tights with a stamp and some type of washer-safe ink, that way the pattern would be a more uniform. Either way, these videos always inspire me to get making/sewing/creating, love it!
Literally my life! Use to have awesome safety pin detailed sheer tights, they'd get one wear, if I was lucky and didn't put my thumb threw as I put them on! After like pair 20 I gave up, fishnets, or fishnets and sheer tights layered full of holes, so much less effort. 😂
if a run is small enough you can put hairspray on it and it won't get bigger (dancer approved, this has saved my life a few times) but you also can't wash them after that without having to reapply

Use ballet tights! They're a bit more expensive, but they last SO MUCH LONGER! They're not as sheer, but I did ballet for 15 years, and in my teenage years (specifically 15-17) I was dancing daily. I owned 5 pairs of tights at a time, and I probably bought a total of 10 pairs during those two years. WITH RIGOROUS USE! Running, jumping, rolling on the floor, taking them on and off regularly. They were champs.
I do ballet, which involves a LOT of tights, and the tried and true method for preventing holes/runs is spraying them lightly with high-hold hairspray while wearing them. Hope I helped someone out there, lol!

From experience, I've noticed the more money you spend on a pair of sheer tights, the longer they last. Got myself a pair of $15 ones and they're a long ways away from ripping and I've worn them for an entire night for a fashion show

You probably already know this hack but if you don't you could try a little hairspray all over the pair of tights before you start the design.
I am a usual "tights slayer" and I found it really useful, it gives a little extra strength :)

If you spray sheer tights with hairspray really lightly, it helps them to stop ripping quickly, just dont spray too much!

If you want a more opaque look try stamps dipped in fabric paint that's what I did and they looked just like the original also if you want to make them last longer try stretching the on something smooth and add a clear coat of spray paint 😚
Dance tights are sheer tights that don't snag as quickly, they can. I have two pairs that have lasted four years. I have another pair that snagged after a year. They are a bit pricey as far as tights go being about $23 at my local dance store.
i have a pair of sheer thigh highs like that (but black) and they have lasted me through 6 wears so far i think? one was even about a 10 hours wear and they even got washed with a normal load of clothes which scared me cause i thought they would be gone for good after that but they are perfectly fine even now all i did was as soon as i bought them i gave them 7-8 coats of hair spray and made sure to stretch them out between each coat after they dried and they seem to still be doing me well
If you don't want to draw each individual note by hand, you could make a stamp, color the surface with the fabric marker, and stamp the tights instead :)
I have a pair of sheer tights I've had for 3 years and worn them easily 40-50 times. They're still fine.
For everyone who wants to do this I suggest that you print out a template for your tights and tape those on a poster board and you can make them exact!! I absolutely suck at drawing so it seemed like a good idea! (:
P.S. I think sharpie would be a good idea too.
I have managed to keep a pair of sheer tights looking nice and rip-free for three wears (I think?), and they're actually tattoo tights as well! :D
I can only chalk up my success to taking the most meticulous amount of care into not doing anything that would ruin them, as int putting conscious effort into it... It's worth it, though, because they look really nice.
