The New York Times called Helmet "a band that made important connections between indie-rock and metal." They have had a large impact on many alternative metal and nu metal groups, with bands such as Tool, Pantera, System of a Down, Nine Inch Nails, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Silverchair, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Chevelle and Deftones citing Helmet as an influence.Helmet have also influenced modern post-hardcore and metalcore groups, such as Killswitch Engage and Norma Jean
