My dad passed away from cancer too during Helmets 15 seconds. I remember seeing them in a small club in Ann Arbor then visiting my dad in the cancer ward after a night of drinking smoking and tripping. The smell gave me cold sweats and my stomach cramped up. Bad memories.
Thanks, just a "sliver" as they say. I hope they find a way to better fight the disease, but I think its part of the human condition in that everyone has a sword of Damocles over their head.
i think the main thing that helped keep the fills creative was that their drummer at the time had no formal drum kit lessons and had a drum corps background, he played quad toms!
30 years later Helmet are still ahead of their time. Based on what they're saying thrash and punk will merge with jazz and somehow give us melody in a thing called "post metal," according to Wikipedia. Just a killer rhythm section, a friend of mine saw them once at a small club in NYC and was dancing for days. From the best soundtrack of the 90's, hands down.
Saw these guys in Oakland PA in 1992 . The management of the place came out and said no stage diving . Then Helmet came out and were like fuck it !! and the place went off!! Was a wonderful year .
These guys are what you call talented. I love seeing when the drummer smiles near the end, and I'm thinking "Wow, this fucking song kicks ass" and they know it too.
Saw these guys last Friday night with my 15 year old son. Page is 63 and still has it. Great show!!! Helmet never got the love they deserved. Kinda hard with Nirvana gaining popularity at the same time.
I am glad Helmet got back together in 04 and I was able to see them live. Frank from Anthrax was playing bass for them and White Zombie's drummer was also in the band. It was a badass concert.

Helmet were the first band I ever saw live, 1994 it was. I consider myself a fan of them (owned every album, seen them numerous times now etc) but I don't really listen to metal any more so I hadnt heard any of their songs for quite a few years now - just walked into a coffee shop and they had this song playing on the radio!
