    I have the Andersons 10-10-10 quick release to give my grass a quick jump start for the spring. And the 0.49 Barricade from them. Plan on laying both out next week! Once the rain stops for a few days.

      I like the 10 10 10 when the lawn is thin or struggling. If the lawn is better shape, I prefer a bit more N. You really can't go wrong. Definitely get pre emergent down.

    For availability and price, Lesco. I've always had great results using Lesco, and if you're a little more advanced and comfortable with it, you can use their straight N products. Either urea or ammonium sulfate. I would recommend having a quality spreader for that however, not one from a big box store. This way you can dial in your fertilization program a lot more. All lawns need N, and most lawns would get by just fine with only putting down N. If you want other stuff you could work that in at custom rates. Side note though, you need to live near a Site One to get the urea and AS, they don't sell those at big box stores, but the 24-0-11 is an excellent fertilizer, and you can get that one at Home Depot.

      Absolutely agree. Getting a good spreader is important. Definitely apply straight N is more advanced. I want to make sure people get comfortable with applying fertilizer first. This is all great information. Thank you for the comment.

    Thanks chadd always enjoy your videos. Ive got some howards 20/0/10 going to throw some down soon. What rate do you recommend at this time for St Augustine grass in florida? Would 3/4 of a pound per 1000 be good? I used milo all last year. But would like to get some potassium in this year. But im afraid of burning the grass. Ty

    Hello Chad, thanks for your videos on St Augustine. I live on Hatteras Island, NC and I am going to plug my yard, which is primarily beach sand. I did a trial plugging last spring with 3 trays of plugs and they did pretty well. So today I bought 50 trays and am going to plant them. Should I fertilize when I plug? And if so, should I drop some in each hole, broadcast spread, wait a while, or what? Thanks for your time,
    Todd

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  2 місяці тому

      No problem. Thank you for the support. You definitely don't want to drop fertilizer in the hole. If you fertilizer at all, you should just broadcast potassium and / or humic acid. After 30 days, you can use 10 10 10 fertilizer to help the plugs spread.

    Thank you for the info, I am in Houston TX, last year was a big struggle for me and this year I am trying to revive my St Augustine lawn. A lot of weed, A LOT of bear spots (long areas) so I want few recommendations on that. I used chemicals and killed most of the weed but still have Bermuda around (I think is Bermuda), I am planning on use an aerator, clean the area, use the fertilizer that you recommended (16-4-8) and put some new sod on the bare areas. How can I get a schedule that tells me, what to do and when during the year, specific for my zone and situation?
    Thank you.

    Looking to move to Ocala, FL area and the lawn they use where we would build put Zoysia in the front, with sprinkler system, but uses Bahia on the sides and back without sprinkler system due to it being more drought resistant. Would these fertilizers work the same for both of those styles of grasses ? or is one fertilizer better for Zoysia and one better for Bahia ? i am just starting the learning process of Florida grasses so thanks for sharing this video.

    if it's your first time with a lawn and you might have done it a little early---will the lawn still benefit from the nutrients laid down or like was what I fertilized just a waste? I'm assuming it's still pretty good, just might take a little bit longer for the nutrients to come online? I'm in zone 9 btw, but I applied last week. I'm really gung ho about my lawn at the moment and it's super exciting to theory craft and think about what's possible.

    At this point in early March you mention to apply the pre emergent then follow with the spring fertilizer if you haven’t done the pre emergent yet. How long of a time period do I wait between the application of the 0-0-7 and then the 24-2-11? The local Lowe’s stocks the Lesco.

    How to treat brown areas due to overwatering?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  4 місяці тому +1

      If it's an active fungus called brown patch or grey leaf spot fungus. Watch my videos about that. If it's either of those, then treat with fungicide. If it's just too wet, it might have some root rot. Let the area dry out and add some sandy soil to help. Be patient.

    16-4-8? Really? You are encouraging folks to use a fert that has P and K , which costs money unnecessarily , and very likely not needed, despite the likely result of causing an environmental hazard adding P where it's not needed.
