    Hello Chad, I am a newcomer to Florida {South}, I am overwhelmed by the difference between St, Augustine grass and the lawn I have been taking care of Tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, (cool climate grass). I watch your video "best lawn Program for St. Augustine" and found it to be most informative, but I still, need a lot more knowledge to maintain a St. Augustine lawn, I thank you for your video and all the info in it, I will be watching other videos of yours to learn more on St. Augustine lawns and how to get the best results.

    Hi Chad. I live in Tampa and have problems in my St. Augustine lawn this summer: gray leaf spot, weeds, and empty patches as result of the fungus. I initially thought the fungus was lack of water and increased irrigation, which after watching your videos, I learned that my action made my problem worse. Thank you for the education. Right now, I'm ready to tackle the problems but need advice on sequencing of products. My plan is:
    1. Apply fungicide group 11 across the lawn
    2. After 14 days, apply an alternate fungicide (group 1)
    3. After 14 days, apply again the fungicide group 11
    4. After 14 days, apply again the fungicide group 1
    5. Wait 14 days, and apply post-emergent herbicide in the trouble spots (at this point, it will be almost mid-November)
    6. Wait 7 days, and fertilize the lawn
    7. Wait 7 days, and apply micronutrients
    8. Wait 7 days, and apply a pre-emergent for Winter (at this point, it will be mid-December)
    During this process, I will mow high (4 inches), always bagging the clips.
    I wanted your advice to confirm I'm on the right path, products sequence and time with this strategy. Would you share if you recommend a different approach? Thank you!

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  Рік тому

      I like the plan. If your fungicide works after the first two, there is no need to do more treatments. As long as the fungus is gone. Your weed control and fertilization program is great.

    Hi Chad. I communicated with you about a year ago. I sent pics of my disaster and you gave me some good pointers and encouragement. Things were looking better until recently. I ended up with a problem with Bermuda invasion in my St Augustine grass in Central Florida. A new house was built next door about 2 yrs ago. I have a lawn service, but they didn't alert me to the 'invasion' and I didn't know what it was until it got pretty out of control on that side of the house. I've been in the process of 'healing' my lawn for the last 2 years, so it wasn't in great shape to begin with on that side of the house. Anyway, I'm killing off that side of the lawn with glysophate and am replacing it with St Augustine Provista. I also have 2 other areas I'm resodding. The sod will be planted by mid-Aug. The fellow that's laying the sod says I don't really need to add anything to the soil-just kill off that side of the yard and till it. I purchased a liquid soil activator product that is .50% magnesium, .10% iron and .05% zinc. Do you think it's a good idea to use this as a soil prep or use it after the sod is put down? If so who long after? Or not at all? Once the sod is put down, how long before I treat it-weed/feed, etc. It looks like the Sunniland professional 16-0-8 might be a good product for me to use. What do you think?
    Thanks for all your help. I love your videos. I'm about to cancel the lawn service (I cut and trim myself, anyway. They were only for weed and feed, which obviously failed to some extent.) I'm a little nervous but hope to implement your calendar in the new year. Just need to get to January without any more disasters, especially regarding my new sod🙂

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  2 роки тому +1

      Glad to hear the lawn was coming along. You are 5aking the right steps. I always advice adding soil but it's not must. I would use the nutrients 30 days after the sod is down. You are the right path keep it up.

    I am in Fernandina Beach. St Augustine and currently I have a mix of brown and green grass . I tried two different companies for lawn care in the 6 years I have lived here but my grass was never as green as my neighbors. • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 роки тому

      Oak trees are lawn killers. The leafs are very acidic. Do you have a PH meter? It would be good to add a little then check the PH to not over do it. Also make sure the trees are trimmed up well to get as much sunlight as possible in there.

    Awesome videos. Quick question. Missed micro-nutrients and iron according to your schedule. Do I, or can I, catch up? Specs: I'm in Bradenton. New St. Augustine sod since April. Grass is browning. I've twice used the 16-0-10 you recommended, but that's all. Watering schedule is good, 1/2" - 3/4" three times per week. Thank you. No lawn care guys here with your expertise and knowledge. Sorely wish you were to take care of our grass.

      Thanks for the question. No need to catch up or make up. Just make sure you are doing what's right for this time of year and do it right next year.
      That is a good spring and fall fertilizer to use and that is a great watering shedule.

    Hi Chad,
    I applied a 4-0-5 fertilizer that the garden center said would be good for my st Augustine grass, but seeing your video I’m thinking the first and last numbers should be higher for better growth. I do see some growth in the lawn but I’m thinking it needs more. Some areas are light brown and some weeds. Should I apply a 20-2-11 over top of the 4-0-5 ?
    Thank you for any help 🙏

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  2 роки тому

      That is not nearly enough for the spring time. That would be a good summer feed. A nice light feed in the summer time is good. But in the spring you want to wake the grass up. As long as it's been 3 weeks since the 4 0 5 go ahead and the 20 2 11.

    Hi, I'm in Jacksonville and my lawn is st.augustine, had my house built 2 years ago and my back lawn never really grew..it's probably an inch high, I've only used scotts turf builder and last year there 3x fertilizer ...it's greenish brown the front is thick and green and the sides are similar with hints of brown...what would you recommend to use?

    • @bettercallchadd

      Yes bad and compacted soil. Very common in new builds. You need to aerate and top dress the lawn. Atleast areate. Please check out some of my other videos. I adress this issue in many times in some of my other videos.

    Hi Chad, I live in Jax and appreciate the video. I plan on implementing the broad program you've outlined. I have a few questions though. In the first application of Potassium and Pre-emergent, should the Potassium be applied in late Jan and Pre-emergent in late Feb? What are the macros for the 1st application? Should Nitrogen and Phosphorous be zero and how high of a Potassium # can I go? Thanks again..

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  2 роки тому

      Yes for when the potassium and pre emergent should be applied.
      Yes no Nitergeon or phosphorous for the first application. The only macro should be potassium. Feel free though to add micros. Micros are good year around.

      The N-P-K analysis for Milorganite, for example, is 6-4-0: 6% nitrogen; 4% phosphorus; and, 0% potassium, indicating there is less than 1% potassium.

      @natewalls4850 3 роки тому +2

      @R G Only really 2 types of pre-emergent chemical Make-up available for turf grass, either prodiamine or dithiopyr, their either available as a WDG (water dispersive granule, something you’d use a backpack sprayer to apply) or as a granular product usually attached to some sort of K (potassium) granule.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 роки тому

      Nate is on point. The timing and good coverage is most important.
