    Great video. Always mulch cut here, minimal weeds. I bag only if went away and overgrown. Coastal NC with St. Aug. Grubs and chinch can be issues here but once a year insecticide application works for me. Thank you and keep em coming, just subscribed

      Thanks for the support. I appreciate it!! A round of insecticides makes a big difference. Those pests can move fast.

    Hello Chad! I’ve followed you for about a year and my grass has been very good. Thank you for the videos. I’m having a little problem with a small section of my St.Augustine. Can I send a picture of the section because I don’t know what is causing the problem?

    Very informative video. Thank you. New build home in Sarasota with St. Aug. sod/grass and sandy soil. I plan to do my own fertilizer program. It's been a long time since I've done it. How do I calculate the number of lbs. of nitrogen per square foot? Is the nitrogen % noted on the fertilizer bag? Thanks again for the straightforward, informative video.

    New subscriber here! Your videos are so informative, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!!! My new St. Augustine sod is 1 month old here in the Tampa FL area. Do I need to do anything other than watering and mowing for the first year? I don't want to stress the new sod out with strong fertilizers, weed, pest, and fungus products. I was thinking just milorganite and pulling weeds by hand the first year. But how many months out would YOU wait to start following a regular program like in your video with the St. Augustine calendar?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for the support.
      You can start following a program 30 to 45 days after new sod. It being the summer, i would just add milorganite. Once fall comes, you can give it some fall fertilizer and then follow a normal program from there.

    Which would be better to help grass grow and fill in bare dead spots, Scott’s topsoil lawn and garden conditioner or a blend of sand and black kow manure? Also do I have to remove some dead thatch before adding?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  6 місяців тому +2

      The black kow used to be way cheaper. But I don't believe it's much cheaper anymore. I would go whatever you get the better deal on. They are both good.
      You do not need to.

    Skip any fertilizers that have phosphorus in the state of Florida. The entire state is naturally high in P, so you don’t want to add more. Skip the Milorganite. Also, that mow every 5-7 days is a minimum in the summer. Healthy St. Augustine can/should be mowed every 3-4 days to prevent taking off more than 1/3 of the blade, and it encourages growth so your lawn becomes nice and thick. Some of us mow 3 times a week!

    I have two large bright yellow spots where it's usually dark green. That's no overwatering, I'm pretty sure it's no fungus. I'm worried it could be mole crickets? What would be the best thing to do?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  6 місяців тому

      It could be root rot or like of iron!! Check the roots first.

    How soon can I apply slow release nitrogen after treating our st.augustine grass for fungicide since July of this year

  • @michaelkruppenbacher1711

    Knowing what ratio amount of fertilizer I need is an absolute nightmare. I live in a new build home and the lawn is a year old. The sod was fertilized by me late in the season before fall since that’s when I was able to do it. After winter passed it still looks like crap and I have tru green as my service now. Whatever they do doesn’t work either. Not sure if under or over fertilized. I hate this grass. I live in Florida and having a nice lawn seems impossible to accomplish.

    Do you like weed and feed granual or feed lawn separately and use hose end weed and feed and just granular fertilizer? Tia...I'm in south Texas

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  7 місяців тому +3

      Granuler weed control is not effective. To treat weeds effectively, you will need a liquid herbicide. You can use a granuler fertilizer and a liquid herbicide one after another for best results.

    When you say to apply 2 to 4lb of nitrogen how does this work. for ex i have 2 bags one has 15-x-x and the other has 25-x-x the amount of nitrogen(lb) will be the same for both bags or will be less than the other due to the nitrogen amount?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  7 місяців тому +1

      It will not be the same for both bags. You can multiply the bags weight by the percent of Nitergeon to calculate how many actually pounds of Nitergeon are in that bag. Then know your how many sqft you are applying that on.

    Is ph important.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  8 місяців тому

      Ph is important. Luckily, St.augustine grows in a large range. 5 to 8.5. So most of the time it's not a major issue. If you want to xhnage your PH it's something you will constantly keep having to do it. It's not a few times will fix it.
