Nice reaction. This song just keeps growing on me. Babymetal has released songs before the album came out before. It's more of a norm for them. They might even change the choreography all together when the album comes out. Kagarou comes to mind. Su did that as a solo song until the album came out. Then they unleashed the choreography on us. We'll have to wait and see what happens this time. I'm sure babymetal will find a way to surprise us. Like this song. Su is singing about tragedy and somehow by the end turns it into a song of hope. Babymetal giving us the positive magic touch of theirs. I can picture Su and Moa strolling across the stage with an umbrella for this song. Now I want a Babymetal umbrella.

    It’s fading away
    That monochrome firework
What color can we imagine the night sky?

I wanted to be by your side even just for a little while
The warmth I want to feel until tomorrow
You don’t have to say it
You don’t have to say it
    It will vanish eventually
    That monochrome firework
We will imagine the night sky in rainbow colors
    During the dusk of Ragnarok,
    What are we to see?
No matter how long the night
    The morning will arrive
    That monochrome firework
We will illuminate the world in rainbow colors
    Just smile...

Early Babymetal was getting J-Pop and Metal and throwing them together, with more extreme contrast in the styles in the same song (Doki Doki Morning, Gimme Chocolate, Iine, Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen) and yet somehow working. Still some more traditional bangers on the 1st album (Megitsune, which got me hooked on them, Headbanger & IDZ). The next 2 albums melded them together more and you see less of the cutesy side as they got older. They also seemed to go for a certain style or concept and stick to it for the 2nd and 3rd album. 1st album was more 'This is crazy and unique, this is Babymetal". Now Babymetal have fully matured and it seems they're firmly in the J-Metal category and Su and hopefully Moa can show their full vocal potential they we knew they had, especially Su. It's just a shame Yui isn't with them anymore on their journey.
To make you jealous I will be seeing Babymetal alongside Sabaton next year. Can't wait for that, Babymetal is a bucket list band for me to see alongside Band-Maid.

We're just loving and embracing the message of this each time we listen, how could you not? Like SuMetal said at the end giving us hope: "Just smile" 🙂
    🦊🤘🌈
The road map follow next January 2023 with a new single and live performance, another single in February and last single and album release on March. Later in April they start with Sabaton's Europe Tour.
I think DA - Shingeki still got combination of different genres and elements like the drum&bass, all the songs so far got it at least with an EDM type and J-pop, so they're still blending, i can agree that probably we're not gonna find funny songs or so much kawaiiness. Let's see what they got once the full album comes out.
The visualizer is just images related to the song or the concept album but without giving so much info or context just to push the song visually. This official lyrics got more clear reference to one of the "worlds" out of 10 they're exploring in this metalverse, and when going deeper in the meaning the references are getting more clear.
Thanks for sharing this, beautiful kitsune. See you next time.🦊🤘🧡

My daughter was 5 when she wanted to go see her first Babymetal concert. There was another girl there that might even have been younger.
We’ve now been to two concerts together and are looking forward to a third. Unfortunately her passport has expired and getting a new one will take a long time so Japan is t an option this time,!but I gave promised to take her to see them in Japan at some point.
Wife really doesn’t like Babymetal so the Babymetal road-trips have been great father and daughter experiences. Can’t believe it’s been a bit over 3 years since we last saw them live.

  • @Grington300

Great reaction. They have always varied the mix of metal to Jpop in their songs and they didn't limit the mix to Jpop either with all the other genres and musical styles (ska, Bollywood, Latin, rap, hip hop, EDM, dub step, reggae and whatever else) they have mixed in with the metal.
Some songs are very pop, some are straight hard metal and then there are all the other songs that fall somewhere in between in varying degrees.
So no, they haven't dropped the Jpop (a lot of people have commented on just how pop Moa's "Whoa oh oh oh" parts are in this one), they are just doing what they always did and varying the mix ... we haven't heard the rest of the album yet - and who's to say what surprises they still have in store for us.
'Monochrome' is just a beautiful song, but also so deep and meaningful and Su's vocals just bring out all the emotions.

  • @Icipher353
    @Icipher353 Рік тому +29

Su's voice has definitely improved, but this album also has much better audio production and engineering than the previous ones, so we are actually able to hear how good she sounds on a studio recording for once. They say that female vocalists only really start to hit their peak in their late twenties, and Su is almost 25, so she's still got potential for further improvement ahead of her.
I wouldn't say that the J-pop is gone. Monochrome is very poppy in its vocal cadence and delivery, and fairly moderate in tempo. If anything, I'd class Monochrome as a rock song rather than a metal song. I think what has happened is that the rough edges of the whole j-pop/metal mashup they do have been smoothed out over the years as they have refined the formula.

Great Reaction. They will have two big shows in January, but likely they will not play the full album yet. It's just their official "return" and the start of their new era, whatever that means. Then they release the album at the end of March, and they will be touring Europe with Sabaton, starting with a few shows in the UK. Likely at those shows they will play most if not all of the new album.

There is so much more to talk about what the visuals of this video mean. It helps to know that Su is from Hiroshima. It also helps to know that Su was a member of idol group Sakura Gakuin and she wrote in her diary about remembering Sadako Sasaki, a schoolgirl who died from exposure to nuclear fallout when the A-Bomb was dropped over Hiroshima in WW2. At the beginning of the video, we saw a scarred tree. After the bomb was dropped, it was believed plants would no longer grow, but in fact, 170 trees survived and are still alive today. The multiple umbrellas falling from the sky, like the black rain did after the A-Bomb detonated, may represent all the souls lost that day. While many believe the girl holding an umbrella is Su, in the context of Hiroshima's bombing, perhaps the girl was the spirit of Sadako. In her hospital bed, she folded paper cranes because her father told her that if she folded 1000 paper cranes, her wish for good health would come true. Even though her health did not improve, she continued folding cranes and wishing good fortune for others until the day she died. Sadako's story is well known and there is a monument of her at the Peace Memorial in Hiroshima, a statue of her holding up over her head a paper crane. At the end of the monochrome (black and white) video, the tree burst into a rainbow of colors. Hiroshima is resilient. Hiroshima is alive.

@@GOTGames But as you felt from the song, BABYMETAL ALWAYS tries to take us from a tough situation to a higher proactive level. always... and that is what has gained global popularity. BABYMETAL themselves overcame four barriers (at least of what I know...) 1: breaking from the mold of just being "cute" or Kawaii and dove into metal even though tough times being called Gimmicks and had things thrown at them, but they kept on with smiles on their faces. 2: Yui-metal leaving due to health reasons. 3: Fujioka (guitarist) passing away due to accident. 4: the enemy of wild wild concerts = COVID. Always overcame barriers. As you may know that was at the heart of "Road of Resistance" and thank you! I always enjoy your reactions! pls keep them coming.

The cong grows in meaning when the context of the video strikes home. I missed it on my first listen, but the second time the tree made me think of the survivor tree in Peace Park, which lived through the bombing of Hiroshima and is a symbol of hope. Then I started to connect the dots to Su being a native of Hiroshima, and scion of grandparents who lived through the bombing. Watching it again. the visuals make more sense, the monochrome fireworj looks like a nuclear bomb, and the video is about hope after an apocalypse. Great song, great video

It's common for Babymetal to start releasing singles way before the album drops.
Btw you're very correct that her voice has changed a lot. It's mostly because her voice has matured since Babymetal first began as her voice was always powerful and she was talented way before Babymetal. But she's also become insanely consistent. When I saw them live in early 2020 I couldn't pick out a single flaw in her singing.

And so far I'm loving what I'm hearing. Now ironically I'm going to suggest that you react to one of the more heavier Kawaii songs they've done called Adawama Fever . "Visualizers" were originally abstract computer generated visuals based on the song. Remember the old Windows Media Player? That was a visualizer. Now the term applies to a variety of videos, not necessarily only to abstract ones. A short definition for visualizer could be: a less produced or not full fledged video which is still a music video.
Well... "Monochrome". They went way deeper lyrically on this one. I see you got the dark references depicted on the visuals and also by the lyrics. I believe this is an allegory that you can apply to all the bad things that happen. In the end, there is always light and color, no matter how long the night is. Just smile.
    Until next time!

Great again! and thank you from Japan 有難う 💛。 When I heard "Divine Attack" a month ago, I thought "We (BM fans) all know this is just one of their various faces that we are going to witness from now on. Let's not be judgmental in haste." This second song has proved it, but in a more drastic way than I expected. Su's pure voice resonates with the bones in my whole body like No Rain No Rainbow did. Vibrating to the resonance, I am now pondering on what the implication of the lyric is. Many fans see some relation with nuclear disaster in Hiroshima, I see, however, more universal event that BABYMETAL is praying for.

What may look like a meaningless lyric video at first glance makes so damn much sense that I can't watch it anymore without having several thick lumps in my throat. You're right that it has a dark tone, and not just because it's in black and white. And judging from your look after the first verse, you probably noticed that the lyrics could be about something dark as well. Watch it again very carefully (the backgrounds, the cityscape which changes), and keep in mind that Su is originally from Hiroshima. I'm sure you'll look at this song and the video after it from a completely different point of view. This song-video combo is a heartbreaking masterpiece. 🥺

This new era of Babymetal is going to be fascinating and exciting judging by the two songs they've released. Su and Moa have settled comfortably into their adult voices and they sound better than ever. BTW I don't think that was reverb you heard in Su's voice but rather her and Moa harmonizing🦊🤘

you asked to know more of the lore behind babymetal and il give you a starting point but to truly understand babymetal one must know the history of both the music and industry behind it (metal and idol both, as they share the same root), and then you start to check out the Legends concerts (and that is as a whole set not individual songs). and a lot of this is unknown to most fans
Monochrome - only thing il say is the final Concert of the Legend Ragnarok tour is looking to be interesting
Black Babymetal many dont understand it still but it references Yui and Moa falling to the darkside of the idol industry due to the actions of (A Idol Producer/Man in a costume from an anime/a man giving them chocolate (depending on what Legend)) and teaching them the Onedari(Please) Daisakusen(great Plan)aka:
    Onedari Daisakusen
Step 1: Target older men with money
Step 2: Give vague hints that if they keep buying you things you will marry them
Step 3: All for the Monney
This song is basicaly a Giant middle finger to the whole idol industry (and points to the possibility of yui and moa being "stolen" to another project while still being members of Sakura Gakuen)
Megitsune - A Tribute to the ispiration behind babymetal that warns that even if they are young girls if you mistreat them they have claws.
Same as Su-Metal the lead singer of the Inspiration band had mastered that death stare by the age of 15
at the end of Ijime, Dame, Zettai at Budokan Black night it is anounced that before they were ready to head to europe they were being called to one last concert in japan, as everything must come full circle they must return to where it all started where he long time ago met the "Godmother" that gave birth to the idea of the Fox God. find the first band that played that arena that can be described as an idol band (there need to be atleast 2 before you can make a lable)and ..
..No reason why I can't understand it
Open your mind, we can understand it
Please let me know if you know this is the end of the world
Let me know if you know the truth
    Looking for our hope
    Looking for our dream

Imo BABYMETAL with this album has put themselves in a position to be considered for the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME…. The collection of their work for over 12 years has changed metal music forever….. many have tried to bring metal into a softer side without killing the essence of metal but BABYMETAL INVENTING KAWAI METAL HAS REVOLUTIONIZED METAL MUSIC FOREVER and for that alone deserves to be in the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME

Bit late commenting on this one, don’t think Su’s vocals are reverbing quite as much as you think. The reverb I think your hearing is Moa singing in the background of most of it. Everyone seems to forget Moa and now Momo these days because they do contribute to the songs as well not just Su but I think that’s just me picking up on what I’ve seen from other reactors as well

When i first listened this, I was a a bit Meh! Too Radio friendly.
The more I listen and understand the lyrics, the more I have fallen in love with this track!
The new album is supposed to visit 10 metralverses, one for each track.
For me, the Monochrome Firework, is the bomb that devastated Su's home of Hiroshima!
The tree, in the video symbolises, "Yggdrasil, in Norse cosmology, is an immense and central sacred tree. Around it exists all else, including the Nine Worlds."
The lyric video also mentions Ragnarok
"In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a series of events, including a great battle, foretelling the death of numerous great figures , natural disasters, and the submersion of the world in water. After these events, the world will rise again, cleansed and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors."
I think that fits with the final imagery, of the the video, where we go from the Black Rain, of a nuclear explosin, to the colourful hope of the future.

Haven't heard a Babymetal song in years. Must admit, they aged like fine wine. One thing I disliked about the band was their young, childlike voices back when they started. Now they sound so mature and genuine, which adds an entirely different impact to their music

Visualizers are supposed to be repeating clips or procedural animations, unrelated to the topic of the song, DA barely fits the category IMHO.
