Thanks for the well done comparison video. Having owned both, I ultimately decided to keep the X-Pro 3. I enjoy the overall shooting experience the X-Pro3 affords and it feels so much better in the hand, even the shutter sound is so much more pleasing giving better feedback. The hidden screen doesn't bother me at all and I actually prefer shooting that way as apposed to chimping after every few shots. It allows me the opportunity to better concentrate on creating images. The X100 was nice in that the lens was attached and simplified choosing a lens to use. Overall I'm a Fujifilm fan and love the ability to use film recipes that emulate different film stock.

Since you mentioned X100V as a travel camera... I've got a pretty wide array of Fuji gear, but when I get on a plane I just take my X100F and a couple of extra batteries with me. I used to take one of the interchangeable lens bodies and a 3 lens kit, but I found I was changing gear too much and not enjoying my trip enough. Also because of the lens changing, I took fewer photos because it was just a pain.
I started traveling with the X100F and counterintuitively I found the limits *liberating*. Rarely did I feel like I didn't have what I needed. As you say, for those tele shots, it's just not going to work. Similarly for really wide shots. But your style of shooting adapts to the limits of having just one lens.
Whenever we can travel again, I might try the same approach but with the X-Pro3 and a 35mm lens like the Fuji 2/35 or Mitakon 0.95/35.

      Hey Terra, great comment.
I am in a very similar boat as you. I am not new to photography (lived in the Canon World). But now I am selling everything. I want to simplify because frankly I am not enjoying my photography as much because I always feel compelled to make the decision of what lens to take, or filter sizes and so forth. It actually has hampered my enjoyment and when I went on a Euro trip I felt like the Canon Mark IV was a rock in my shoe taking it everywhere with me with a telephoto lens.
Thankfully I dont do photography for work, rather I do video production and operate cinema cameras. So my personal Photography is just that. Its personal. However if I really needed, I could take side gigs. I usually turn them down because I want to enjoy photography and would like it to be separate from secular work.
But I am extremely stuck. I like the thought of being limited to one focal length. But at the same time im afraid that it might be a "phase" and in the end i really should go for the xpro3 for the slim 10% chances that I really want a 35mm (50 fullframe) for special portrait sessions.
Or maybe im over thinking it and I need to just get a x100v and have my fill with it and sell it down the line when i need something different. Or sell it when a Xpro 4 releases. I DONT KNOW haha.
Any insight now that its been a year?
Have you found moments where you wish you would have gotten a Xpro 3?
How frequently do you wish you had a different lens?
      Thank you,

@@cokerfilms2901 I have an Xpro3 and X100F. To be completely honest, I still reach for the X100F more often than the Xpro3 just as a matter of convenience.
Since I posted this comment I also picked up a Sony A7 III. I enjoy it more than my Xpro3, and usually leave with only one lens attached. Most often a vintage Minolta Rokkor MC 58mm f/1.4 or a modern Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2 in E mount. The Voigtlander has a really nice modern rendering with a little character but I enjoy the Rokkor 58mm 1.4 more.
Yes, I'm enjoying manual focus lenses now more than modern autofocus.

Interesting. Sounds very familiar. „Ambitious hobbyist“ here as well. Been with Nikon for some 10 years. Two full frame bodies and all the 2.8 goodness at the end. And I hated using it. Holidays quickly became „how do I get which gear to the site most conveniently?“ rather than enjoying the actual holiday. Started only bringing a DSLR with one smallish prime. Made it better but I still needed a dedicated bag. And it still was one chunk of a camera. I semi-switched to a Fuji XT20 and several lenses years ago. But it didn’t do much. Rather a smaller version of the same problem (several lenses and stuff to manage, never really happy with my gear decisions on the day of shooting; plus missing the fullframe advantages) - so I ended up with „well, I might just stick with fullframe then…“
1.5 years ago, I sold parts of my kit (only kept one body, 24-70, 85mm, flash - for „events“ and portraits) - to get a FUJI x100V. I’ve taken 30 photos with my Nikon ever since. And thousands of pictures with my Fuji. I shot whole holidays, my son’s school enrolment and so much more. Could I have gotten better pictures in any situation with a fullframe DSLR? Absolutely. But I wouldn’t have been a guest, friend, father at these events then, but the photographer. And that makes all the difference for me.
As for your 35mm / 50mm equivalent lust: totally get it. I’m getting the tele converter „TCL“ from Fuji and a reasonable flash unit. For those rare occasions where I’m not happy with a 35mm look, it does the job sufficiently well but is clunky enough that I won’t take it everywhere. X100V all the way.

Both are really great cameras but I can’t afford either which is why I went for the X-E3, a nice little compromise between the two. I’m just waiting to see if Fuji will update it to an X-E4 with that same flip screen on the X100V and processor & sensor, that would do me 🙂

Great cameras, both. In the end, I went X-Pro3 as I have an X-Pro 2, frankly, I just love the form factor and design of the-Pros, reminds me so much of the Leica M6 back in the 80s, when I all too briefly owned that red dotted jewel. Don’t get me wrong, the X-100V is one helluva sexy camera (especially the silver/chrome), but the fixed 23mm, well...That said, I may rent one for a week and see what I am missing.

I am in the process of deciding between the X-Pro 3 and the X100V. I am thinking of leaning toward the X-Pro 3 because of the wider choice of lenses, as well as the flip screen which kind of forces you to use the viewfinder. Also I have the X100F so I am not sure I can justify upgrading to the X100V at the moment.

Both seem like amazing cameras, which I’m unlikely to ever own. Although, having had an xpro 2 with a line up of lenses and x100f. I’ve eventually settled for the x100f simply because I wanted something to carry around all the time in my pocket (Without adaptors). I know the 100v is a decent upgrade and perhaps in 2 to 3 years when it comes down in price I’ll think about it. Anyway, always nice to see you producing new content, especially when its a system I love.

I have both xpro and x100, they are great. Fundamentally though if I had to pick one its the xpro. It does everything the x100 does, size and weight very similar, yet xpro can do far more with different lens. Leaf shutter and nd filter don't mean so much to me.
X100 makes things simple though with a fixed focal length.

I have the 100v and like it. I noticed if I have the hood on and use the flash: the hood blocks the flash from the bottom quarter of the photo. Fortunately the hood is easy to takeoff when you don’t need it.

I use a square lens hood that does not get in the way of the flash. I like the aesthetic touch it adds to the camera. It is supposed to be compatible with a filter, given you buy and use an extender. For the life of me, I could not get that work. At least the square shape of the lens hood should help keep dust away from the front lens element.

I personally think that the rear of the x-pro3 is not as attractive let’s say as the front - which I love. The excessive amount of plastic around the viewfinder and thumb-rest area could have been designed with more refinement in my opinion. I also don’t like the small screen on the outside at all.

I currently own an x-pro2 and an x-h1 with a wide array of primes and the 16-55. I plan to swap my x-pro2 for an x100v, as the x-pro2 in capabilities is very similar to the x-h1. With the x100v I have at least no excuse anymore to leave a camera at home. The biggest issue I have with the x-pro3 is that the dual magnification of the OVF is gone. That will make anything wider than 23mm or longer than 50mm useless in OVF mode which is the main reason to have an x-pro. With the x100v and the x-h1 I have a more flexible setup with best of both worlds...I hope...

Andrew, great discussion, comparison & summation between the V & 3. I agreed to get both. 💰well worth the therapy from life’s bitter arrows🏹. Also, beautiful images of your children & the gorgeous Utah landscapes. As a XP3 owner with a 23mm f2 combo, I never felt a need for a limited focal length of the V. Then...a bad case of GAS stricken my inability to resist another Fuji 📷(6 thus far), I made a stupid impulse purchase for a V. 💸😑🔫 ...a month in & I cannot stop shooting 📸 with it. The V is just stunning & addictive to 📸(true of all Fuji 📷). I still 📸 with my XP3 with other lenses & the V is always there as well.

Another difference. I did not see you include. Is that the ISO dial on the X100V clicks up into posotion and becomes an ISO dial that you can rotate until you like the setting. And then click back down into its flush position. The pro does not click up into position. You have to pull it up and rotate it and let it spring back down.

Right now I’m shooting on an XT3 and an X100V. Love both. I shoot studio portraits and headshots, personal branding photos and the occasional family session. I used to shoot engagements and weddings, but now it’s almost entirely portrait work.
I have fallen in love with the rangefinder style of the X100V, and I am eyeing the XPRO 3.
I’m having a hard time deciding if I should sell my XT3, and get an XPRO 3, keep the XT3 and get an XE4, or just wait and save for the XPRO3 and have three cameras (XT3, XPRO & X100).
I’ve also considered the XT4, but I don’t do video, don’t care about IBIS and I just don’t see the upgrade.
I like to work very minimalist, and I only have a handful of lenses.
I would love your thoughts as to what you would do in my shoes.
I think I’m also feeling kind of burnt out and bored and there’s something about the x100 that just makes me want to shoot more, which is why I’m leaning towards the rangefinder minimalism found in XPRO series. I want the camera to get out of my way, and my work is about connection, simplicity and closeness. Even in the studio, I keep one eye open. I am finding myself shooting in studio with the X100! Would you sell the XT3 and get the XPRO, keep it and go XE4, or just wait and save and get the XPRO as a third?

I got the x100v yesterday and there is a big issue with it when pairing and using the fuji app. It disconnects every single time and 99% of the time, the camera locks up and have to remove the battery to fix. Only one time did the camera return to normal operation on its own. I emailed our regional Fuji rep here in Oklahoma City about it. Other than that so far, the camera works flawlessly that I experience. As far as the camera getting hot. It gets a little warm but being a small body, it’s also understandable so, not an issue there.

I currently have an XH1 but my style is more for Documentary/event and I'm not totally sure I really need the IBIS, so I'm thinking about getting the xpro3... The x100 series is incredible it just gets better with each iteration while largely keeping the stunning form factor. I’m using the F love it like no other camera I’ve owned it just never fails to impress. I use the camera for almost everything especially landscapes you have to work on your shot but the results are worth it the WCL is on the shopping list too. I’m fighting like mad not to buy the V as in all honesty it’s only the flip screen I fancy to save the dodgy knees a bit I’m getting ever closer to shelling out the readies for the V then last week I shot a vid on my chan using the F to capture all the stills and just like that I’m sticking with the F until it passes away or the V1 or whatever comes out next. The X-Pro 3 is just a better camera, but I can’t seem to get over the fact that I can put the X100V in my pocket.
I already have plenty of much better cameras, but I’m really looking for something small and easy. It’s not even like the XPro is very large with a small lens like the 35mm, so it’s a hard choice!
I do really like the XPro not having it’s screen exposed. Feels like shooting film.

Optical 4-stop ND filter? When I had an X100F I did use the 3-stop version provided when doing street photography in the company of mad dogs and Englishmen in the noon day sun. Usually I turned on on and left it on. With my Pro3 I spent the money for one completely colour neutral 3-stop 43mm ND filter (which can be a bit pricy. I haven't tried but this might also work on my 50mm f2 without the 46-43 step down ring vignetting ).
This fits both my 23mm and 35mm f2 lenses and when the situation demands wider apertures again I pretty much put it on and leave it there until the afternoon beverage break has successfully concluded. I have also found that I get better results with ACROS at the lowest possible shutter speeds. Have no idea why that is. (If one has had rifle training the exact same skills apply to shutter releases as triggers. I can take an acceptable image at 1/15 sec with a 35mm lens without IBIS, thank you very much.). But I never missed a shot nor found myself saying, "OMG, ND filter. Must have now. EVERYONE FREEZE IN PLACE WHILE I SCREW IN MY ND FILTER....PLEASE. THANK YOU."
Now, back to the Corona virus coverage...

I haven’t had that problem...yet, Maybe I should add that to my model release form. “I absolve the photographer of all responsibility should I fall over dead during the shoot.” That could, of course, introduce some doubt into the photo shoot. I wouldn’t want to cause the model feeling bringing a doctor or body guard is necessary. Please let us know about your experience of models falling over dead.

I can afford either one of them so the price is not a problem for me. I love photography and I finally want to upgrade from my iPhone and I’m absolutely in love with both cameras! The style of photography I like is street/urban and architecture maybe some landscape! As a first timer should I get a fixed lens or interchangeable lens camera? Also portability is important to me too so if I use a lens on the xpro3 thats equal to the x100v will the portability be the same? I dont know tbh I need an experts opinion please!!

Great video. I love and adore my X-Pro3. It's by far my favourite Fujifilm camera to date - apart from maybe that dream period of exciting experimentation when I first hopped aboard with the X100 those many years ago. I really want to pick up the X100V to go with it, I'm even thinking of trading in my X-T3 to do so, as I don't really shoot much video at all. I shoot weddings, street, documentary and theatre and dance. Here's the game-plan...
X100V: For Medium and WCL wide shots, and silent moments that would be spoilt by shutter clicking. I might get a TCL just in case I need to push that silent mode further. (Electronic shutter is too risky I find with indoor lighting.)
X-Pro3: 50mm f/2 for dance work, 56mm for theatre and weddings. 35mm for that happy medium.
I don't think I'll be able to part with my 18mm f/2. I did so once before and missed it desperately. For the days when I just want to take my X-Pro3 out for a walk and do some street, that's the lens I put on it. The 23mm f/2 I'll probably have a harder time justifying keeping, but it is a lens I like. Oddly, once again, the lens that is most under threat is the 16mm f/1.4. I just find it too heavy and big for my to have fun with, and 16mm is not something I often enjoy. If the WLC keeps the crispness of the X100V 23mm then I may just... erk... trade it in.
Anyway, thanks again. Looking forward to the lens comparision!

I am on the same boat, except I don't own any of them, was just planning on getting both. I shoot with an XT100 (enthusiast here). Thing is I don't know if I should as it is a considerable amount of money. On one hand I could just get the Xpro3 which can do everything (and take the lenses I already have) but on the other hand the reason I want the X100V too is because it is lighter/more discrete camera for circumstances where I need to be more careful with my gear (calling the wrong type of attention).

I just shoot family and art, so the x100V is the clear winner, but I miss the ability to use a true manual focus voigtlander. Not because the VM would be a better lens technically, but just for the true helicoid experience. I just want shutter speed, iso, aperture, and focus to be at my fingertips. I dont want them to move without my permission. And I want it all connected to the very best lens possible. That is all. Hey Andrew, I love your channel. I have a quick question that I hope you can shed some light on. On the X100F, if I used my filter ring adapter with a BPM 1/4 filter, and tried using the on camera flash at night, it would always vignette, sometimes 1/4 of my lower frame at closer distances. This was a deal breaker and I sold my x100f. My solution was to use the XF-8 flash that came with my XT-2 on the the X100F, but that pairing didn't work at all. (I have a Q20II flash, but I really don't like that thing) Can you please test if the XF-8 flash work on the X100V in TTL? Thanks in Advance - Sif

I don't know but, ¿I suppose X100V still have these digital zoom for jpeg that "the F" had?, I don't like use just jpeg archives but for people just want to travel and don't want to lose so much time editing shots, the jpeg format allows to use that inner zoom to get x1.4 and x2.0 times rich, and with the addition of the TCL, you can get to 100mm digital focal distance o_O maybe some people can think about it if they need it.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera

The digital zoom is worthless, imo. Might as well crop in RAW and have more control anyway. If they added that digital zoom for RAW, just so. you can better compose, I think that'd be good. But it's weird it's only available in JPG and you also are unable to map a custom button to it.
