My grandma and my mom taught me the string test and it never fails me. Dip your spatula or spoon in your mixture while it’s boiling and hold it over the pot , let the mixture drip off the spoon until it’s almost gone then watch to see if it starts leaving a hard string like a spiderweb. When it forms a long string that don’t drop off the spoon it’s ready. Also when pouring the hot mix in the egg whites we always poured a slow steady stream while the egg whites were mixing until it all was in. Then turned up the mixer and let it go until it wasn’t glossy. It’s a wonderful thing though when you have more than one way of doing something.
Looks good when done. My mother used to take Marchino cherries and chop them up real small and put inside of those before you took it off the stove and they were so pretty and hers was still a little shiny. They looked beautiful. She also used pecans chopped up in them, and that was very good to a different batches. She may different.
My mother used to make divinity with a hand mixer; she flavored it with cherry Jello. I think I was lucky enough to have had 2 pieces in my entire life, lol. Watching how much time it takes I get it! She hasn't made it for at least 20 years. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you soo much for the recipe and the instructions.. To be honest, this is my first time watching this candy recipy. Never heard of it. Thanks again dear. Gonna try it ❤
You are so welcome. I hope you make it soon. It’s a delicious candy and worth all of the effort it takes to make it. I had some technical difficulties with the speed of the film and apologize for that. Thank you for taking the time to watch my little video. I love cooking and have not had a lot of time to film. I hope to be back in my old little kitchen soon. Have a blessed day. Sherry
Thank you soo much Sherry! For taking your time to reply for my comment.Thats soo sweet of you💓. Would like to see more of your videos in future. I'm Haleema from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰. I love baking .I'm hoping to check all of your videos and would like to try them . Wish you all the best dear 🤗
The divinity you made looks scrumptious but your video you put on fast speed of voice and the slowing down on voice low is a bit annoying 🤷🏼♀️but! your recipe you made it look so easy 👍🏼 thank you I will try it :)
I am so sorry. I had trouble with the filming and the camera. I was trying to show it in real time. I know it was annoying for you. I apologize. Try the recipe and technique. It will be a delicious candy for you. Have a blessed day.
@@CrazyCajunLiving I just finished making it. I had to stop my kitchen aid mixer throughout the process like you said… and now they are on the wax paper setting up. Yum!
@@Jabeye it really is super easy and delicious. I couldn’t imagine beating that by hand. Bless our grandparents for their delicious candy and the patients and effort that it took to make it. I will be posting more recipes soon. Thank you for stopping by. Hugs and Crazy Cajun love 💕
Divinity will be the death of me. Over the years I have tried and failed more than I can count lol. I might try this though! You cook yours to a higher temperature than most of the ones I’ve tried, so I’m wondering if most recipes give too low of a temp. 🤔 Thanks for posting!
Hi, everytime Ive ever tried to make this candy, I failed but I would really love to have some of this for Christmas, so I'm going to give your recipe a try, I will just be tickled if it comes out like yours, so wish me luck on it, and I will let you know how it turns out, oh one more thing, it is a rainy day out so i hope you are right about that not making a difference ,So here I go, I'm going to give it my best shot. 👍
You take far too much time fussing with where to put things. If you don't get that candy out of the bowl and onto a flat surface it will harden in the bowl, so you gotta' move it along quickly.
You can beat it by hand with a wooden spoon or you can use a hand held mixer. That’s what people used before these fancy machines came around. I’ve used a hand mixer. You got this. It will turn out fine. 🥰

Never seen somebody put electric mixer like that on top of a gas stove instead of keeping it on the counter
Don’t think that would a good idea.
What’s the difference with nougat?
I’ve never made that before. Not sure
Your tape speeds up too fast. Can’t tell what you’re talking about sometimes.
