I love divinity! I have never made it. It brings back memories from childhood. One such memory is that there was a lady in our small town. Every year at Christmastime she made divinity, sold it in the community, and gave the money to the church. She was a precious lady. She had to walk in order to sell it, and she was not a really young person. I always admire her, even though she has been gone for many years.
We love Divinity and I make pecan and also Peppermint with finely crushed candy canes to a powder. I am 80 years old and learned to make them with my Kentucky Grandmother who used no mixer. About 10 years ago I had problems holding the heavy pan of syrup to slowly pour the syrup in so here is what I did. I looked for something as high as the top of my bowl to set the pan on and lean it over the lip of the bowl. A cast iron skillet turned upside down with my cast iron tea kettle on top of it worked great for me. So, maybe those who have that problem & still want to make it can look around their kitchen and see what would work for them before starting to make this candy. You demonstrated this perfectly and everyone should be able to make it. Thanks so much, enjoy this.
I watched my Mom, Sister and Sunday school teacher do it by hand, I remember them bringing it way up in the air and steam to in and out of the pan, I did not learn from them, sooo wished I did, I’m 70 now so it’s been a long time ago, I miss these fantastic Lady’s in my life, THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO, I buy it at the store,,,, it doesn’t taste the same at all…. God Bless and Merry Christmas
We agree that it's very hard to find things made in a store that's as good as what was made in our kitchens. We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
i have made divinity for my dad every Christmas since i was 14.. i'm in my late 50's and he still looks forward to getting his divinity.. it makes me smile every time i see the joy it brings him.. my dad is a vet and he has always been a great dad so i love doing anything to bring him happiness.. Merry Christmas and God bless.. give that special someone a hug and kiss just because you can
I used to make this for my daddy every Christmas when I was a young teenager.I would clean a 3 pound coffee can(yes there were 3 pound cans of coffee then.) I wrapped the can and the lid with Christmas paper and gave it to him for Christmas . He loved it. Sweet memories.❤
My Mom would clean the used cans and bake Christmas breads in them, and they were so cute! She would pop them out of the cans and ice them or sprinkle them with powdered sugar, wrap them in cellophane tied with pretty ribbon, and give them to family and friends as gifts! I sure miss her!
I have enjoyed these recipes. Divinity was always one of my favorite candy. Thanks for sharing. Grandma's made some wonderful desserts without the tools that we have to use. It had to be love. God Bless.❤
Oh my... A favorite from my childhood! My mom made it and also put a pecan on top of each piece. She had a beautiful old pedestal cut glass candy dish she kept it in at Christmas time. Precious memories. ❤
Thank you for sharing all of your grand-recipies. I adore old fashioned Christmas 🎄 and pecan anything is a plus! My grandparents had 3 pecan trees and we spent many evenings cracking and picking for holiday recipes ❤
When my mom was around 10 years old,(1924) her mama was making her some divinity for her birthday. It was a very rainy day so the humidity kept the candy from setting up. Her mama gave her the pan and a spoon. That was her birthday present. We always had black walnuts in our baked goods and candy. We had a tree in our yard so we didn't buy other nuts.
My mother was the queen of making divine divinity because it was my Dad's favorite candy! Hers was smooth and delicious and not dull and clumpy at all. She never used a candy thermometer or a mixer and it was always perfection!
You did a wonderful job making the devinity! I’ve made it a few times over the years and I remember that it was a tedious job. Watching you making it look so much easier. Thanks so much!!!
My Aunt Norma's recipe was like your MawMaw's was..a whole pecan on top.I can tell you MUST BE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN THINGS EXPLICITLY SO IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE.😂
Thank you so much for watching. We love to hear that our recipes have connected people to special memories! Have a wonderful day and a very Merry Christmas!
I remember my Mama making this candy for Christmas. She would add green and red food coloring in each batch to make it festive for the holidays. Some she wouldn't put food coloring in, just leave it white. Thanks for the 12 days of Christmas candy making.
My grandmother made Divinity but my mother wouldn't make it. My mom always stated that it takes a special person to make Divinity and she never would attempt to make it. After watching this video, I'm going to make Divinity for my husband. It is suppose to be raining here all day tomorrow and I'm going to take the time to make several of the Christmas treats that you made in this series. Wish me luck. I know that my husband has had this candy, he is a few years older than me and from Arkansas. I first tried this candy in my teens because when we would go to my grandparents for Christmas, there was just so much to eat, it wasn't until I was older when I tried it for the first time. My mom and grandmother have been gone a long time. Tom, I'm going to honor them both with your recipe, wish me luck. Peace, Joy, Love and Happiness to you and your family this holiday season. Merry Christmas and much love from North Carolina.
I haven't made that for years. And yes I was always scared to make it. I saved this video and make it when I get a candy thermometer. You made this look easy, thanks
Betty Cocker years ago had a white fluffy frosting and it always had a divinity recipe on the back of the box. It was good easy and turned out every time. Sure wish they still had it! Now I'm telling my age! (77)
I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what you make next. I bought a candy thermometer so I can make the recipes you're sharing with us. Thank you. Can you please do this all December?
When I was a little kid we made ours with black walnuts and a glace cherry on top. When I grew up I developed my own variations. So now i make the same black walnut and cherry, one with chopped candied orange peel and one with chopped candied ginger .
I am so glad I found you I live in West Virginia and when I watch Tom Cook it warms"s my heart he cooks like my family My late Sister Cooked just like him I really enjoyed watching you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Oh my, 🤩little puffs of pure bliss. My Mother in Law would make this every Christmas. She was a peach. Also made a really good maple cream cluster and used mashed potatoes for the maple filling. She spoiled us good. ❤
Sounds like you were blessed with a good mother-in-law! 😊 That maple candy sounds delicious! I am just crazy about real maple syrup. Sure wish you could post the recipe! Blessings!!!
I make in the microwave now, but I still think the stove is better. We always put the pecan half on top up here in Indiana. Merry Christmas & thanks for sharing.
Oh how I love Divinity! I even remember the first time I ate it in the First Grade at my school’s Christmas Party, some 60 years ago! I’ve tried to make it so many times and burned out at least one hand mixer then finally gave up. With your recipe and video, I may try again! My mouth is watering! Ty for showing us the right way to make this delicious treat!
This brings tears to my eyes. My momma made this every Christmas and would add a touch of food coloring too for easter. She has worn out a many hand mixers to make this. Ami brothers was just asking if i knew how to make it and because of you im gonna surprise them all this christmas . I really do love your program. Linda Reitz Wilmore KY
I use to help my two old mid aunt make candy at Christmas before I was a teenager. We didn’t have an electric mixer. To beat the egg whites we us an oval chicken wire whisk! Probably a wooden spoon to mix and beat. Wow! Makes me tired just to think about it. But, at 83, I still use that type beater for egg whites!! Thank for the memory. We made Date Nut Rolls too, wrapped in a wet flou sack dish towel. 😅
I’m 87 years old and I remember watching my mama make divinity. And yes I remember a few times it did not turn out. Back then we had to use the cold water to tell us when it was at the correct stage. I actually made a batch or two when I was around 12 years old. Speaking of old fashion candy, have you ever heard of penuche fudge like candy? It was made with brown sugar sugar and milk and and I think real home churned butter.
Divinity fudge is one of my favourites. The church we attended had a Christmas Bazaar the first Saturday in December which was always around my birthday. My mom donated lots and lots of knitting and looked after that table but she always managed to get 2 boxes so I could have a birthday treat once a year. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
They, like Tom's grandmother, were tough! I'm not sure I could do it strong enough and long enough to make it work. Thanks so much for watching our channel and we hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks Tom and Melissa, this was a great recipe that you have handed down from your GrandMother. She would be so proud. You did a great job and covered it well and your camera person did an excellent job too. Stay safe and you folks keep having fun together. Fred.
Hello Tom and Melissa, and thank you for your recipes. I am 64 years old and a disabled widow. I can remember making these recipes every year for the holidays. Between this and the Old Fashioned Hersheys Fudge, they were staples during this season. I haven’t made these recipes every candy for a couple years as there is no one else here to eat it. I was thinking about the fudge recipe and how you said it only took a minute or so beating after removing the heat and cooling. I can remember breaking a wooden spoon from the beating! I remember having to beat it for 10-15 minutes so it wasn’t my favorite to make. At one time in my life, we lived in the hills of Montana and lived in a small log cabin. We had no running water, electricity, bathroom, to say the least, it was quite rustic! Our only way to cook was a two burner Coleman kerosene camp stove. I didn’t have an oven to bake cookies for my kids so was restricted to making things on the little stove. I used to make the Hersheys Fudge about once a week. My family loved it and even though it was hard to do, it made me happy to make it for them. Thanks for reminding me of these delicious recipes. I ordered your cookbook but couldn’t get it thru your app on Amazon. I’m not sure why. I can’t wait to get it after seeing your videos so much lately. Thank you again and God Bless You and your family. Merry Christmas, yours, Jill
Tom you did a wonderful job ! They look absolutely perfect 😊 I agree with Melissa that tee she should wear 😂. Thanks for sharing your grandmother recipe. She’s smiling for sure .
One of my sisters-in-law put her in a 9x13 pan. It was the best divinity I ever had. I wish I had been able to see her make it. Years ago I came across a box mix that made frosting like 7 minute frosting and it had a recipe for divinity. It was easy and tasted good. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.
I’ve never made divinity but my best friend’s mom used to. She NEVER made it if it was raining or humid because she said it wouldn’t work right. Hers was delicious and the only time I’ve ever had it. Good job and Merry Christmas!❤️
I grew up in the 60’s and everyone I knew who made Divinity placed a pecan half on top. I think it was just the way women made it back then. My mother never made it. To my knowledge she never used a candy thermometer but she made some delicious fudge every year using the hard ball stage. Sooo good!
So much fun watching you guys today. As a kid my grandmother and I made divinity. She beat the egg whites on a plater as I slowly poured the sugar mixture. I was so nervous trying to do it correctly. ❤
My grand mother also used to make this for us for Christmas when I was growing up. It arrived in the mail in a cardboard box special delivery. The box would also contain chocolate fudge. I can remember how exciting it was waiting for it to finally arrive. We lived in Maine and my grandparents lived in Kansas. IT was slightly different in that there weren't pecans int the fudge but one on top (as your mawmaw did) but also a maraschino cherry! Great memories... Thank you.
I love the way you set up your blogs, having the recipe listed, all the ingredients lined up on the counter and speaking slowly. So many times others talk so fast its hard to follow but with your recipe listed its easy to follow along. Thank you!
This is one of my husband’s favorite candies. Hopefully your recipe is better than others I’ve tried. I haven’t made it in years. This is Sunday and I’m in the kitchen making 8 loaves of amish bread. 4 of molasses bread and 4 of chocolate chocolate chip with ground red pepper. It’s so so good. God bless you both . Have a blessed Sunday. ❤🙏🏻
I read your comment about the chocolate chocolate chip cookies with ground red pepper.. yummy..could you please send me the recipe? I live in Adger, Alabama and that sounds Absolutely awesome! Merry Christmas 🎄
@@GinaHastings-r5t I make chocolate amish bread with dark chocolate chocolate chips and I add 1/4 tsp of ground red pepper. You can add that to a store bought box fudgy chocolate cake mix and add 4oz choc chips and the small box of instant chocolate pudding. Let me know if you try it and if you like it. God bless you & Merry Christmas 🙏🏻
I absolutely love divinity my aunt used to make she said she burnt up a lot of mixers making this candy I never tried making it thank you very much for sharing 9 th day of goodies Have a a good weekend Merry Christmas 🎄⛄️🎅🏻❄️👨🍳
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS FLUFF OF GOODNESS!!!!!! I broke my grandmother's kitchen aid when I was 9 while making my 6th batch(1st day I was taught to make it😊) by sticking a wooden spoon-hey I was scraping the sides😂😂-into the bowl while it was still mixing.. I learned that lesson well!!!!
She, like Tom's grandmother, were TOUGH! I don't think I'd have the stamina to make them successfully by hand! Thanks so much for watching and have a very Merry Christmas!
Tom and Melissa, You are most definitely my favorite cooking channel. Thank you for sharing these wonderful recipes and memories of your Mamaw! I had a special Mamaw as well. She had four grandchildren and I was the only girl. So there ya go.....yes, she spoiled me. How I would love to come sit at your table and share "Mamaw Stories." Blessings to you and yours this Christmas season!
I have never heard of Pecan Divinity. It looks dangerous to make! 😂 I am also enjoying reading the comments from others speaking of how their Grandmother used to do things. This candy sure looks good. Thank you again Melissa & Tom!
My mother also made peanut butter pinwheels with the divinity, just spread it out on waxed paper, spread the peanut butter on top, then roll it up, allow it to cool and set then slice the rolls, 15:01
🙏 Brings back such great memories of my Grandmama making this at holiday time. She let me always have the honor of placing a single pecan half on top of each one. Thank you for the memories, the recipes & sharing with us. God Bless
Love your channel! So many of my mama's and grandma's recipes! Wish you would add a "Slow Cooker" Playlist! I'm unable to stand long enough to cook a full meal so use the crock pot ALOT! Would be such a great help! Keep on cooking!
My Mother used Black Walnuts. It took forever to get the nuts out. Your hands always had a stain. Thank-you for all your time you put into your videos .... From Michigan born in KY
Tom when you tasted that your face was priceless, all the great memories were coming to you. Such a nice humble man. Love the shirt. Much love and prayers to you and Melissa and family❤️💯🙏🏻
Yesterday, I made fruitcake using your fruitcake recipe. It is sooo good. Now, watching your 12 days of Christmas videos for other yummy treats. Thank you
Thank you so much for that comment. We weren't sure how well this series would go over but we have been so encouraged by kind comments that we are already talking about what we could do next year instead of 12 Days. . . something to go right up to Christmas perhaps! Have a very Merry Christmas!
When i was a kid I'd make divinity for Christmas gifts, roll it into logs and dip in hot caramel, then roll in crushed pecans. It was amazing. Over the years i burned out 2 hand mixers doing it.
Actually, if she were still alive, she would be happy to jump in and make the video for us! We sure do miss her. And, her food was always THE BEST! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We sure appreciate your kind words. Merry Christmas!
I haven't made Divinity in probably 20-30 years! I made it tonight with no problem. But you're right about how it's hard on your hands and arms. I used a hand mixer, so holding that in the right, and drizzling the syrup with the left..... Wow! But it came out perfect! I'm not sure if it will still be good by the time it gets to my son in Japan. It will go in tomorrow's mail. Thanks for all your detailed instructions!! Joyce in Palm Coast FL
My grandmother never used a mixer, did by hand, always used the water method and she always said for the batch to come out right it had to be a sunny day - no clouds. I could never get it to turn out. I miss her divinity so much.
Hahaha Love the shirt! 😅 The truth! My mom always made this every Christmas 🎄 even with her extremely arthritic hands. Love the good Ole days...memories. Our son n family lives in Kentucky. We get back there when we can in our RV. Merry Christmas! 🌲 🐫 Blessings from Arizona 🌵 🏜
I made Divinity for the first time last year, after being intimidated for years that I couldn’t make this candy. I was so proud of myself and ended up making numerous batches to sell at our Church Christmas Bazaar. It was a big hit and sold out quickly. So yes in a few weeks I will be making more Divinity to bring to the church for this year’s Bazaar. Thank you Tom & Melissa for giving all your viewers the confidence it takes to try things on our own.
I could tell that your candy set up before it came off the spoon. So I think you are right, stopping your mixer about 30 seconds earlier at least would have possibly kept it from setting up so quickly. But I bet it still tasted delicious. The only intimidating part to me is getting it on the paper to set at the right time. Thanks for giving us your grandmother’s recipe. For the life of me I have no idea how she kept from using a mixer.
Great job. In 1992, I had a brand new stand mixer. It was either a Sunbeam or an Oyster, but, brand new. My sweet neighbor asked me if she could borrow it to make some cookies. She never mentioned Divinity. Well, that mixer burned up on its’ first use. Now, I am afraid to make it. But, I have a mixer like yours, same color and all. So, I think I will try it. Thanks.
We hope you can try it sometime! But let's be honest, nothing is as good as what our moms (and grandmas) make for us! We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel. Have a very Merry Christmas!
I love divinity! I have never made it. It brings back memories from childhood. One such memory is that there was a lady in our small town. Good tip! I don’t think I still have the arm strength to support a pan while pouring that slowly. Thank you!
I Remember The 3 Lb. Coffee Cans! My Mom & Grandmothers Cleaned The Cans, And Stored Bacon Grease In The Cans!😊
My Mom would clean the used cans and bake Christmas breads in them, and they were so cute! She would pop them out of the cans and ice them or sprinkle them with powdered sugar, wrap them in cellophane tied with pretty ribbon, and give them to family and friends as gifts! I sure miss her!
I use to use the cans also, you really brought back the sweetest memories,, THANK YOU!!!!
I have enjoyed these recipes. Divinity was always one of my favorite candy. Thanks for sharing. Grandma's made some wonderful desserts without the tools that we have to use. It had to be love. God Bless.❤
You are right! Nothing like the love our grandparents had for us! We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
Oh my... A favorite from my childhood! My mom made it and also put a pecan on top of each piece. She had a beautiful old pedestal cut glass candy dish she kept it in at Christmas time. Precious memories. ❤
I use to watch my mom make divinity. It was a tedious process but it ALWAYS came out perfect and delicious. There’s no other cook like a mother.❤

Thank you for sharing all of your grand-recipies. I adore old fashioned Christmas 🎄 and pecan anything is a plus! My grandparents had 3 pecan trees and we spent many evenings cracking and picking for holiday recipes ❤

Tom, my grandma was a cook but I haven't witnessed divinity being made. makes You absolutely impress me. Thank you and Melissa for all your time.
Thank you so much for showing this. I am 77 and I had an aunt who made this. She lived far away so I never saw it made. ❤
I am a great-grandma and this is my all time favorite candy too❣️ Great video! Thank you…But…make sure it is a Sunny day to make this candy!!!
My grandmother made divinity every year for Christmas. She placed a walnut on top of hers. Yours looks amazing!
My mom used to make the candy it was so good but your show brought back memories ❤ your show

They do still have it but not every store carries it. It’s my favorite frosting on strawberry cake!

I ordered your cookbook but couldn’t get it thru your app on Amazon. I’m not sure why. I can’t wait to get it after seeing your videos so much lately.
Thank you again and God Bless You and your family. Merry Christmas, yours, Jill
I forgot to tell you where I am from. It’s in Western Washington State in an area called The Puget Sound
Oh what memories that brought back for me my dear sweet neighbor growing up used to make it for me I loved it so much...
Tom you did a wonderful job ! They look absolutely perfect 😊 I agree with Melissa that tee she should wear 😂. Thanks for sharing your grandmother recipe. She’s smiling for sure .
Yum yum yum
My Momma made this every Christmas. She never used a mixer. She was tough too. Merry Christmas Tom and Melissa!
I have owned the same hand mixer since the late 70s - LOL. Its harvest gold. Things lasted then.
My grandma always made this. Oh how miss our Grandmas... especially at Christmastime❤😢
Sooo good!
I think you are right - it's just the way it was done!
Thank you so much for watching our channel. We hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
I’ve never had the nerve to make divinity but this looks easier than I thought it would be. My family always had the pecan half on top also.
We hope you try it and that it's successful for you. Thank you so much for watching and we hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
My motherin law used make all cookies for christmas.rum.balls.fudege church hills cookies the best baker miss her
Thank you, I haven't has this since I was a child, now almost 70
Yum. One of my favorite Christmas treats.
We are so glad you are watching! We hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
Now, this takes me back to my grandma. ❤ She was the divinity maker. Just so yummy looking. They turned out beautifully.
Thank you.
I used to have to make triple batches of divinity every Christmas. My family would love this. Was a once a year treat. 🙂🦋
I love the way you set up your blogs, having the recipe listed, all the ingredients lined up on the counter and speaking slowly. So many times others talk so fast its hard to follow but with your recipe listed its easy to follow along. Thank you!
DIVINITY!! What a delightful Christmasy treat. 🎅🎅🎅
Thanks, Tom.
Love homemade divinity.
We do too! It's so, so nice! We really appreciate that you are watching our channel, and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Thank You for Both of you showing us and telling us all about this very old fashioned candy. God's Blessings To You.❣️✝️
You are so welcome. We really appreciate that you are watching and we hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
My Mom did it by hand every time for decades! Aways came out perfect!!!!!
I am 71 years old, and its my first time yo ever make divinity...wow this recipe is awesome. Cant wait to get my cook book
I have never heard of Pecan Divinity. It looks dangerous to make! 😂 I am also enjoying reading the comments from others speaking of how their Grandmother used to do things. This candy sure looks good. Thank you again Melissa & Tom!
It's definitely an old-fashioned candy. But it's also delicious! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We wish you a very Merry Christmas!
My mother also made peanut butter pinwheels with the divinity, just spread it out on waxed paper, spread the peanut butter on top, then roll it up, allow it to cool and set then slice the rolls, 15:01
Yum! I Will Definitely Be Making The Divinty Pinwheels With Chunky Peanut Butter! Thanks For The Great Idea! 😊
I have not had Divinity Candy since I was a kid. I am think maple extract with toasted walnuts. Maple Nut.
We are so glad to have you watching our channel. Have a wonderful evening and a very Merry Christmas!
Thank you
Awwww I love divinity and your grandma was awesome she probably used a hand beater that you cranked really fast. I saw it done by the elders !
Im Going To Miss The Christmas Series Of Delicious Treats!
❤🤍❤️
Thank you so much for that comment. We weren't sure how well this series would go over but we have been so encouraged by kind comments that we are already talking about what we could do next year instead of 12 Days. . . something to go right up to Christmas perhaps! Have a very Merry Christmas!
That's my favorite candy homemade divinity.
Have never seen such a great video on how to make divinity!! Now I have to try to make it.
These look good 👍
When i was a kid I'd make divinity for Christmas gifts, roll it into logs and dip in hot caramel, then roll in crushed pecans. It was amazing. Over the years i burned out 2 hand mixers doing it.
Ty for 🎉sharing Divinity first time to watch it being made wow sure looks yummy God Bless ❤️
We really enjoyed this candy. We hope you can make it sometime soon! Thank you so much for watching and have a very Merry Christmas.
I love to make and eat divinity! My mom and I used to make lots of divinity. Just remember to pick a sunny day when you're wanting to make it.
Well done for making your Grandma's recipe, she would be so proud of you. And thank you for sharing your family recipe with everyone. Valerie.
Actually, if she were still alive, she would be happy to jump in and make the video for us! We sure do miss her. And, her food was always THE BEST!
Thank you so much for watching our channel. We sure appreciate your kind words. Merry Christmas!
My granny used to make this. It was her favorite Christmas candy.
Divinty is my absolute all time favorite candy! Can’t wait to try this!!
We sure hope you love this recipe. Thank you so much for watching our channel and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

My grandmother never used a mixer, did by hand, always used the water method and she always said for the batch to come out right it had to be a sunny day - no clouds. I could never get it to turn out. I miss her divinity so much.
Another great video. I have a wooden utensil just for making candy. I have it in a secret spot so nobody else uses it for something.
My Aunt and Sister makes this. Perfect every time. I've tried, 😢 but do it on a sunny day. Thank you for # 9 ❤
Divinity was a favorite of my Dad's. I never learned to make it. I love your shirt. I want one.
Thank you so much. I think one of our kids got this shirt for Tom. He loves his t-shirts and this one is perfect! Merry Christmas!
Thanks.
My mother always made divinity but she always had it made by the time we got there. I have seen her make peanut brittle.
We hope you can try it sometime! But let's be honest, nothing is as good as what our moms (and grandmas) make for us! We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel. Have a very Merry Christmas!
My burned up several mixers making divinity but neer used a candy thermometer.I loved her divinity.wish I had some now
