    After watching your video, I did something simular in my truck - I have an aluminum topper with crank out windows. It works pretty well. The only problem I have had is at night I have run into the end of the crank out window and that hurts. You only do that once and you learn fast to look out.

      I tended to bump my head a lot in this setup too :) Thanks for watching!!

    I bought a leer 122 about three weeks ago I had to bring to back to the shop 3 times to fix leaks 3 times for mechanical issues with the back door. And now my side rear window is letting in a crap top on water so 7th trip. It sucks because I did flooring in my box. Wood ain't cheap.

      Sorry to hear that about your Leer! Mine leaked a very tiny bit in the back corner like I mentioned in the video, but that was only after a heavy rain or car wash usually. I'm sure they'll make it right. Thanks for watching!!

    Great review video! I just picked up a 100XR for my F250 and will definitely watch for some of the things you pointed out. They seem to have really good quality.

    I watched some other reviews on this shell and all the reviewers made the same comment about needing the fold-down glass on the front part so that you can clean the back windshield of the actual truck. You didn't mention having that option on your shell though. So that being the case, have you noticed your truck's rear windshield getting super dirty? Are you able to reach it by any means without removing the shell? Will a high-pressure hose clean it with the shell on? I'm really curious because I ordered one of these myself but I didn't think about that ahead of time so I won't have the fold-down glass either.

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  3 роки тому +4

      I actually do have the fold down glass option, but have never used it. The window does get a little dusty but nothing a hose can’t get rid of. Thanks for watching!

    How did you mount your cargo netting to the roof? Looking at this model for my Nissan.

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  11 місяців тому +1

      I mounted mine to the interior cargo hooks. If you order your 100XR, be SURE to include the hooks on your order and they will mount hooks in the interior / roof of the camper shell. Then it was just a matter of stretching the cargo net out over the hooks. Thanks for watching!!

    Side window options? Machism? Security? Seems like it would be very easy to open the side windows with a knife.

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  2 роки тому +2

      I'm sure you could open the side windows using some sort of jimmy bar or something along those lines. It's definitely not high security, more what I would call 'deterrent' level security. With that said, I've always felt safe in mine when camping, although I freely admit I am always armed. Thanks for watching!

    I’m thinking about getting a top like yours for my tundra and I like racks on top, will it fit in the garage with those on ( height wise)?
    Thanks in advance 🇺🇸👍🏻

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mike, mine would NOT fit in the garage with the bars on. However it only took about a minute or two to take them off. Thanks for watching!

    How about Dust? Does the Shell keep the dust out?

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  2 роки тому +1

      Howdy, some dust will still definitely get in. However, if you install those tailgate weather seals it helps a LOT. I mention them and show them in one of my videos. Thanks for watching!

    Really enjoying all your videos, we have similar interests. Just picked up used Leer cap Sunday. Planning on using it for winter camping and operating ham radio portable. The Leer that I bought looks just like yours except no carpet liner in it. Do you know what model number yours is. I can’t find a model number on mine. Just watched harmonica video, I bought a set of harmonicas 10 years ago, need to find where I put them. Wife has already said no on winter camping, guess that would be a good time to learn how to play. Thanks for all the concise videos.

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  3 роки тому

      Hi Mark! thanks for the kind words on my videos, I really appreciate that. The camper shell is a 100XR Leer model and as I recall the carpet was an option, but when I ordered it Leer was having a promo that gave you 'free' carpet. If you look inside the camper up near the door area you should find a serial number plate somewhere, you can call Leer with that serial number (if you can get through) and they can tell you the specifics on it. Dig out those harmonicas too! As I said in my video, I learned most of my stuff from John Gindick and he has some videos on YT. Also check out Adam Gussow videos, he's another excellent teacher. Thanks for watching!!

    How much do you they charge for canopy?

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  3 роки тому +3

      When mine was ordered new in 2019 it ran around $2900 or so taxes and all. Took exactly one month to arrive. I hear now though that lead times are up to 4-6 months because of Covid. Not sure if prices have increased or not.

    So a number of people are posting about leaks. I'm wondering what happens when you drive through an automatic car wash. How much does is leak? If at all? And way do most wash their pickup with a leer cap? thx Russ

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  3 роки тому

      I get a small amount of leaks near the rear at the top of the tailgate. More like damp spots after heavy rains. I haven’t ran it through an automatic car wash though, usually wash by hand.
